Abstract:In this paper, using Geostationary Meteorological Satellite (GMS) cloud images and the weather conditions, an analysis of the character of GMS-5 cloud image in the advance and retreat process of the subtropical highs on July, 1997 and No.9711 typhoon has been conducted. It is found that the cumu-lonimbus in the west of subtropical highs, the anticyclonic cloud system in the edge of its northwest, the inside little block of cumulus, and typhoon indicate the advance and retreat process of the subtropical highs. At the same time, it has been analyzed that those cloud impacted on the process, and a means has been put forward that using the satellite cloud images could forecast the process. Those works are very meaningful to forecast the advance and retreat process of the subtropical highs.
