From 2006 to 2008, there were 58 short-range precipitations in Jinan urban area. By using severe short-range precipitation information during May to September from 2006 to 2008, automatic weather stations observations data including high-altitude and surface data, physical field material and Doppler radar products, this paper analyses the annual, monthly, intertemporal and strength characteristics of severe short-range precipitation. It also analyses the different types of weather systems which can cause severe short-range precipitation. Time and key rainfall area of severe short-range precipitation is studied in this paper. It has indicative significance for short-term nowcasting and early warning of Jinan urban area in the future.
