To meet the research demand, the National Ocean Technology Center has developed a series of expendable products, including a kind of expendable bathy thermograph (XBT). In the study, comparative analysis is conducted on the temperature data obtained by the XBT and XCTD deployed to the east of Taiwan in the western Pacific Ocean on August 2014. The results show that the single profile correlation coefficient of the two sets of data reaches 0.95, and temperature difference appears in the thermocline. The section standard deviation at the depth of 200 m above the thermocline is larger than that at a depth larger than 200 m, with the maximum and minimum value of 0.39 and 0.08, respectively. Temperature profile analysis on the two sets of data shows that the contour concavo-convex phenomenon appears in the same position and the description of special physical phenomenon of water masses in the ocean is broadly consistent. There are three reasons for the deviation of the two sets of temperature data at the thermocline: the errors due to different response times of different sensors, depth measuring equation error and the measuring error of the sensor itself. It can be concluded that the data quality of domestic XBT is good. Generally, its performance can meet the requirement of quick underway observation on complex water environment, and the accuracy and reliability of data are satisfying. |
