Theoretical line contours calculated for fixed values of the line constants and a given model atmosphere show an increase of the Stokes parameters Q, U, and V but a decrease of I if the portion of non-coherent scattering increases. These effects increase from the centre of the solar disk to the limb. The action of scattering may be approximately simulated in LTE contours by increasing the gradient of the source function and fitting in this way theoretical contours to observed ones. There remains, however, the effect of V-reversal near the line core, which is caused by anomalous dispersion and is abnormally increased by scattering.  相似文献

The algorithm for determining effective optical thickness of absorption line formation in a plane-parallel homogeneous planetary atmosphere is presented. The case of anisotropic scattering is considered. The results of numerical calculations of τ e 0) at the scattering angle γ = π for some values of the single scattering albedo λ and the parameter of the Heyney-Greenstein scattering indicatrix g are given. The refined equation for the function T m (−μ, μ0) is presented.  相似文献

The determination of the average path-length of photons in a finite isotropically scattering plane-parallel homogeneous atmosphere is discussed. To solve this problem we have used the kernel approximation method which easily allows us to find the derivatives of the intensity with respect to optical depth, optical thickness and albedo of single scattering. In order to check the results we have used another approach by exploiting the set of integrodifferential equations of Chandrasekhar for theX- andY-functions. This approach allows us to find the average path length only at the boundaries of the atmosphere but on the other hand it gives also the dispersion of the path-length distribution function, thus generating the input parameters for determining the approximate path-length distribution function. It occurred that the set so obtained is stable and the results are highly accurate. As a by-product we obtain the first two derivatives of theX- andY-functions with respect to the albedo of single scattering and optical thickness, and the mixed derivative.  相似文献

In a manner similar to that given in a preceding paper (cf. Castiet al., 1970), in this paper we show how to get a Cauchy system for the scattering and transmission matrices of the azimuth-independent term of partially polarized light in accordance with Rayleigh scattering in a homogeneous atmosphere bounded by a specular reflector. This set of integro-differential equations for the scattering and transmission matrices is suitable for numerical computation by high-speed digital computer.  相似文献

The problem of the passage of a plane electromagnetic wave through an arbitrary, inhomogeneous dielectric layer bounded on two sides by two different homogeneous, semi-infinite media is considered. Algebraic relations are obtained between the amplitudes of transmission and reflection (the scattering amplitudes) for the problem under consideration and the wave scattering amplitudes when the layer is bounded on both sides by a vacuum. It is shown that for s and p polarized fields the scattering problem (a boundary-value problem) can be formulated as a Cauchy problem directly for the s and p wave equations. It is also shown that the problem of finding the field inside the layer also reduces to a Cauchy problem in the general case.  相似文献

We develop a theory for radar signal scattering by anisotropic Langmuir turbulence in the solar corona due to a t+lt process. Langmuir turbulence is assumed to be generated within a cone by a narrow type III burst electron beam. Using wave-kinetic theory we obtain expressions for the frequency shift, scattering cross-section of the turbulence, coefficient of absorption (due to scattering) and optical depth. On the basis of those expressions we give some estimates for an echo spectrum. We show that the minimum radar echo frequency shift is determined by the minimal phase velocity of the Langmuir waves, the maximum shift is determined by the electron beam velocity, but in any case it can not exceed −wt/2 (decay) and wt (coalescence), where wt is the frequency of a radar signal. The angular characteristics of the scattered signal differ dramatically for the cases of coalescence and decay. The signal is scattered into a narrow cone high above the specular reflection point (wp ≪ wt), but in the vicinity of wp ∼ wt/2 the red-shifted echo is scattered isotropically, while the blue-shifted echo is scattered into a even narrower cone. We show that absorption (due to scattering) increases with increasing radar frequency. The dependence of the absorption on the local plasma frequency is strongly determined by the Langmuir turbulence spectrum. Our theory shows that the role of the nonlinear scattering process t+lt is essential and that such process can be used for radar studies of the spectral energy density of anisotropic Langmuir turbulence.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss a rigorous treatment of the refractive scintillation caused by a two-component interstellar scattering medium and a Kolmogorov form of density spectrum. It is assumed that the interstellar scattering medium is composed of a thin-screen interstellar medium (ISM) and an extended interstellar medium. We consider the case that the scattering of the thin screen concentrates in a thin layer represented by a δ function distribution and that the scattering density of the extended irregular medium satisfies the Gaussian distribution. We investigate and develop equations for the flux density structure function corresponding to this two-component ISM geometry in the scattering density distribution and compare our result with the observations. We conclude that the refractive scintillation caused by this two-component ISM scattering gives a more satisfactory explanation for the observed flux density variation than does the single extended medium model. The level of refractive scintillation is strongly sensitive to the distribution of scattering material along the line of sight (LOS). The theoretical modulation indices are comparatively less sensitive to the scattering strength of the thin-screen medium, but they critically depend on the distance from the observer to the thin screen. The logarithmic slope of the structure function is sensitive to the scattering strength of the thin-screen medium, but is relatively insensitive to the thin-screen location. Therefore, the proposed model can be applied to interpret the structure functions of flux density observed in pulsar PSR B2111 + 46 and PSR B0136 + 57. The result suggests that the medium consists of a discontinuous distribution of plasma turbulence embedded in the interstellar medium. Thus our work provides some insight into the distribution of the scattering along the LOS to the pulsar PSR B2111 + 46 and PSR B0136 + 57.  相似文献

In this paper we develop a new exact method combined with finite Laplace transform and theory of linear singular operators to obtain a solution of transport equation in finite plane-parallel steady-state scattering atmosphere both for angular distribution of radiation from the bounding faces of the atmosphere and for intensity of radiation at any depth of the atmosphere. The emergent intensity of radiation from the bounding faces are determined from simultaneous linear integral equations of the emergent intensity of radiation in terms ofX andY equations of Chandrasekhar. The intensity of radiation at any optical depth for a positive and negative direction parameter is derived by inversion of the Laplace transform in terms of intergrals of the emergent intensity of radiation. A new expression of theX andY equation is also derived for easy numerical computation. This is a new and exact method applicable to all problems in finite plane parallel steady scattering atmosphere.  相似文献

We use the semi-quantum approach to study the Compton scattering and non-linear scattering processes in a magnetoative plasma under the weak turbulence regime. Analytical expressions for these two types of scattering probabilities are derived from first principles forl-l waves. Transiting to limiting cases, the results obtained in this investigation are shown to be identical to previous derivations by other workers.  相似文献

Numerical simulation of type III bursts is made by the use of fully numerical scheme showing a general rule for obtaining a numerically stable difference scheme. Although the electron distribution function is one-dimensional in velocity space, the plasma waves is cylindrically symmetric two-dimensional in K-space.It is confirmed that the previous simulation made by the use of semi-analytical method assuming the plateau distribution of electron distribution is qualitatively correct, but the number density of electron beam to have a typical type III burst was overestimated by a factor of about 3.It is demonstrated that a tentative neglection of a term for the induced scattering of plasma waves into nonresonant K-range gives no remarkable effect on the energy loss of the electron beam, though the scattering is strong. The reason is that the scattering reduces the saturation level of plasma waves resulting in a reduction of the energy loss, while a part of the energy of electron beam is indirectly lost by the scattering.  相似文献

The problem of predicting the radio emission from the quiet Sun for meter and decameter waves may be formulated in terms of a standard radiative transfer problem with conservative scattering. One may therefore avoid the numerical complications involved in using a ray-tracing approach which incorporates a Monte-Carlo routine for representing scattering. The brightness and extent of the radio Sun are calculated for several values of the electron temperature and scattering parameter of Steinberg et al. (1971). It is concluded that the temperature and density model of Newkirk (1967) for solar maximum reasonably represents the observations. However, some observations appear to be inconsistent with scattering models and further observations are needed. It is shown (in Appendix B) that the standard ray-tracing technique incorporating a Monte-Carlo routine for the scattering may be replaced by a diffusion approximation.  相似文献

A multigroup, diffusion scheme is derived from the Boltzmann equation for efficient numerical computation of neutrino transport in a collapsing stellar core. This scheme treats all neutrino scattering processes correctly with a Legendre expansion of the scattering rates. Modifications of the diffusion coefficient and the addition of a flux limiter extend the applicability of the scheme to neutrino transparent regimes and improve the agreement of the solution in both opaque and transparent regimes with those obtained analytically for some test problems. In addition, a more accurate treatment of the neutrino flowAcross shock discontinuities is developed through a shock matching condition. The solutions given by this multigroup, flux-limited diffusion scheme are compared with those of a modifiedS N code.Supported in part by the National Science Foundation (Grant AST75-05012 and AST 77-17572).  相似文献

The method of computing the radiation field in an infinite circular cylinder proposed in Part I is now applied to the case of isotropic scattering with sources on the boundary and axis of the cylinder, as well as for a uniform distribution of sources inside the cylinder. For the simplest kernel we obtain exact solutions of the basic integral equation in explicit form. For scattering in a spectral line with complete frequency redistribution and a power absorption profile we develop an asymptotic theory for the case when the optical radius of the cylinder is large. We solve the asymptotic equations for the basic characteristics of the scattering in closed form for conservative scattering and find its asymptotics. We obtain estimates of the mean number of scatterings with a layered source, and also the mean and variance of the number of scatterings with a uniform source distribution.Translated fromAstrofizika, Vol. 37, No. 4, 1994.This work was carried out with the financial support of the Russian Basic Research Fund (grant 93-02-2957).  相似文献

A new method is presented for calculating spectral line radiation transport in a homogeneous circular cylinder with infinitely long axis for isotropic scattering with complete frequency redistribution or no change in frequency. In addition to the cylinder, scattering in a layer symmetric about its midpoint and in a sphere are also studied. Equations are derived which are satisfied by the resolvent of the fundamental integral equation describing these cases of scattering. By applying a Hankel transform over a finite interval, the resolvent is expressed in terms of an auxiliary function. An equation is derived for this auxiliary function which is easily soluble by iteration, with the speed of its convergence increasing with growth in the radius of the scattering region.Translated from Astrofizika, Vol. 37, No. 1, pp. 111–127, January–March, 1994.This study was carried out with financial support from the Russian Fund for Fundamental Studies (project 93-02-2957).  相似文献

A discussion of a program for the computation of coronal emission line polarization is presented. The starting point is a general formulation of the scattering function for magnetic dipole transitions between any two total angular momentum levels, J J, J ± 1. Illustration of the behavior of the scattering function for different transitions is given. The integration of the scattering function over the solar disk and along the line of sight accounting for arbitrary distribution of magnetic fields as well as an inhomogeneous temperature and density structure of the corona is considered next.Sample results are presented for the numerical computation of the angle of maximum polarization and the degree of maximum polarization to be expected from idealized magnetic field configurations such as radial and dipole. A computation is included for a realistic field configuration predicted to exist at the time of the 1966 eclipse. The magnetic field input to the scattering calculation is based upon the potential field extension of photospheric magnetic fields. It is the purpose of the sample calculations to demonstrate how the measurement of emission polarization measurements can be interpreted in terms of the direction of coronal magnetic fields. Factors which lend ambiguity to such interpreations are clearly illustrated from the examples. These include the Hanle-effect depolarization and the depolarization at the Van Vleck angle. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Gas streaming through the solar system experiences both destructive and scattering processes, the latter primarily in collisional interactions with the solar wind protons. The scattering interactions can be important in filling the downstream wake. They may effectively increase the velocity dispersion and also cause discrete orbit changes. The downstream intensity moment is here evaluated analytically for particles suffering a single, discrete collision, and compared with the moment from a thermal velocity dispersion (both in the absence of a central force field). The elastic scattering collisions of protons in H-gas lead to a contribution to theL backscatter from the wake equivalent to an initial thermal velocity of about 1 km s–1, giving an intensity for cool gas of the order of 10R. This exceeds the contribution due to focussing in the solar gravitational field if the radiation pressure is not less than 0.8 of the gravitational attraction.  相似文献

The maximum entropy method is used to find the energy albedo for half-space, i.e., the classical albedo problem but extended to include energy dependence. The slowing-down kernel is described by elastic scattering and various model representations for dealing with anisotropic scattering. The energy albedo for different values of secondary particles per collisionC is calculated and compared with exact and variational values given by Williams and Padé's approximant given by Machaliet al. (1981). Also the energy albedo for different mass-ratios is found and compared with Williams and Padé's results.  相似文献

The general equation for radiative transfer in the Milne-Eddington model is considered here. The scattering function is assumed to be quadratically anisotropic in the cosine of the scattering angle and Planck's intensity function is assumed for thermal emission. Here we have taken Planck's function as a nonlinear function of optical depth, viz.,B v(T)=b o+b 1 e . The exact solution for emergent intensity from the bounding face is obtained by the method of the Laplace transform in combination with the Wiener-Hopf technique.  相似文献

Q and structure
An acoustic energy flow through a heterogeneous medium is characterized by transfer equations involving both scattering and real loss coefficients. Different values of seismicQ may be obtained from measurements of different portions of a seismic record, indicating a separation of the effects on energy propagation of scattering and real loss parameters. In cases in which these parameters can be separated, they can then be used in seismic modeling. As an example, a model is presented in which scattering occurs to a depth of about 10 km below the volcanic ridge in the Tonga-Fiji region. The case of the lunar maria is discussed in terms of the relation of measured seismicQ, scattering parameters, and direct ray propagation parameters. The results indicate that a fairly simple jointed bedrock model is compatible with observed lunar seismic data.Publication No. 1037 of the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, University of California, Los Angeles 90024, U.S.A.  相似文献

The effects of partial redistribution of frequency on the formation of spectral lines in a static and spherically symmetric media have been investigated. The partial redistribution functionsR I andR II (Hummer, 1962) have been employed to calculate the lines for a two-level atom in non-LTE in a spherically symmetric medium with homogenous physical characteristics whose ratiosB/A (of outer to inner radii) are equal to 2 and 10. These results are compared with those formed in a plane-parallel medium withB/A=1. Two types of atmosphere are treated: (1) a pure scattering medium with =0 and =0, and (2) an atmosphere with a constant source of emission =10–4 and =0, where is the probability per scatter that a photon will be destroyed by collisional de-excitation and is the ratioK c/K l of opacity due to continuous absorption per unit interval of frequency to that in the line. Lines formed in complete redistribution also have been calculated for the sake of comparison, and the total optical depth in all cases has been taken to be 103 at the line centre.Vast differences have been found between the lines formed by complete and partial redistribution functions (which, for the sake of simplicity, we shall hereafter refer to as CRD and PRD, respectively). In the case of a purely scattering medium, a small amount of emission is observed in the wings for all cases of scattering functions in the spherical medium as a result of the combined effects of curvature and physical scattering. In the scattering medium, more photons are scattered into the cores of the lines by PRD than in the case of CRD. The lines formed in the medium with internal sources show emission in all cases with small absorption in the cores, except those lines formed by the angle-dependent PRD functions which again depend on the geometrical extension of the medium.  相似文献
