Evidence of sustained environmental degradation associated with the end-Guadalupian, end-Permian, and end-Triassic extinctions has been inferred from numerous geochemical and sedimentological studies, but the long-term impacts of this extinction-associated stress on the evolutionary trajectories of marine invertebrates have not been explored. An examination of the diversity, extinction, paleoenvironmental range, and geographical distribution of marine stenolaemate bryozoans during the Permian to Jurassic interval provides striking new evidence of the taxonomic and ecological influence of these mid-Phanerozoic extinctions on one of the most abundant components of the Paleozoic Fauna. Elevated bryozoan extinction rates during the Late Permian and Late Triassic were coupled with major changes in their habitats. Bryozoans gradually disappeared from deep-water offshore settings during the Late Permian and from nearshore and offshore settings during the Late Triassic. Re-colonization of these environments in the wake of each crisis was delayed but coupled with increases in global generic diversity. The taxonomic effects of the end-Guadalupian extinction were milder than previously described, even though ecologically bryozoans were becoming restricted to nearshore settings. The end-Permian mass extinction remained the largest for bryozoans, drastically reducing global and assemblage generic diversity and triggering a permanent change in their paleoenvironmental preferences from nearshore to mid-shelf settings. The 285 Myr dominance of stenolaemate bryozoans ended during the Late Triassic when all but one order (Cyclostomata) became extinct, initiating a taxonomic switch between stenolaemate and gymnolaemate bryozoans. Moreover, spatio-temporal variations in the paleoenvironmental history of bryozoans imply that Late Permian and Late Triassic marine environmental instability resulted largely from some stressful deep-water phenomenon. High extinction rates in nearshore environments in the Late Permian provide a link between marine and terrestrial/atmosphere extinction-related perturbations.  相似文献

Abstract– 40Ar/39Ar dating of recrystallized feldspar glass particles separated from clast‐rich impact melt rocks from the approximately 10 km Paasselkä impact structure (SE Finland) yielded a Middle to Late Triassic (Ladinian‐Karnian) pseudo‐plateau age of 228.7 ± 3.0 (3.4) Ma (2σ). This new age makes Paasselkä the first known Triassic impact structure dated by isotopic methods on the Baltic Shield. The new Paasselkä impact age is, within uncertainty, coeval with isotopic ages recently obtained for the Lake Saint Martin impact structure in Canada, indicating a new Middle to Late Triassic impact crater population on Earth. The comparatively small crater size, however, suggests no relationship between the Paasselkä impact and a postulated extinction event at the Middle/Late Triassic boundary.  相似文献

The Rochechourt impact structure in south‐central France, with maximum diameter of 40–50 km, has previously been dated to within 1% uncertainty of the Triassic–Jurassic boundary, at which time ~30% of global genera became extinct. To evaluate the temporal relationship between the impact and the Triassic–Jurassic boundary at high precision, we have re‐examined the structure's age using multicollector ARGUS‐V 40Ar/39Ar mass spectrometry. Results from four aliquots of impact melt are highly reproducible, and yield an age of 206.92 ± 0.20/0.32 Ma (2σ, full analytical/external uncertainties). Thus, the Rochechouart impact structure predates the Triassic–Jurassic boundary by 5.6 ± 0.4 Ma and so is not temporally linked to the mass extinction. Rochechouart has formerly been proposed to be part of a multiple impact event, but when compared with new ages from the other purported “paired” structures, the results provide no evidence for synchronous impacts in the Late Triassic. The widespread Central Atlantic Magmatic Province flood basalts remain the most likely cause of the Triassic–Jurassic mass extinction.  相似文献

The Jameson Land basin in East Greenland comprises a well exposed succession of Upper Paleozoic–Mesozoic sediments. During Middle Devonian–Early Permian rifting, 13 km of continental clastics were deposited. In latest Paleozoic to Mesozoic times, 4 km of sediments accumulated during regional subsidence. In the Early Paleocene, during North Atlantic break-up, the basin was covered by a thick volcanic pile. Subsequently, uplift and erosion took place over the whole region. The volcanic cover was completely removed from Jameson Land and erosion cut deeply into the underlying sediments. To assess the exploration potential of Jameson Land, a basin modelling study with 21 1D pseudo-wells was carried out based on all seismic and surface data available. In addition to the calculation of hydrocarbon generation in space and time, the basin modelling provided an opportunity to study the magnitude and timing of uplift and erosion. Basin modelling constrained by apatite fission track data has made it possible to determine a consistent uplift and erosion history of the area. Tectonic backstripping based on a simple Airy type isostatic model has been used to separate the tectonic uplift from the actual uplift. The combined basin modelling and backstripping study has led to the following conclusions: (1) the thickness of the Cretaceous succession varied from 1.3 km in the south to 0.3 km in the north; (2) the volcanic rocks formed a wedge with a thickness of >2 km in the south thinning to <0.1 km in the north; (3) the subsequent erosion of 2–3 km is in response to tectonic uplift with a magnitude of 1 km, and the calculated tectonic uplift shows increasing values to the north. 利用国家气象信息中心气象资料室整编的中国756个基本、基准气象站在1971~2000年间的日照时数和日照百分率年值、月值数据集,研究了全国范围的日照条件,结合1951~2008年间我国云量、水汽要素资料,分析了影响日照的因素.研究结果表明,我国日照时数和日照百分率的分布形势一致,东南少而西北多,从东南向西北递增.在我国东部地区日照时数由南向北逐步递增,西部地区日照条件整体好于东部,符合常规.藏西南狮泉河一带日照条件最优;40°N纬度带附近和藏南地区次之,江南华南、四川盆地以及云贵高原东部地区的日照条件较差;其余地区日照条件居中.日照时数受云量、水汽要素的影响,呈负相关关系.  相似文献

We report the first occurrence of moldavites in Poland. This discovery confirms the hypothesis that moldavites could have been distributed up to 500 km from the Ries crater in Germany. The tektites were reworked from Middle Miocene sediments and redeposited in Late Miocene (Pannonian) fluvial deposits of the Gozdnicka Formation in Lower Silesia. The Polish moldavites are represented by nine (<8 mm) fragments with a total of 0.471 g. The lack of the autochthonous tektites indicates that tektites investigated here had to be redeposited in a fluvial environment, probably from the Lusatian area. The chemical composition of the Polish moldavites plots in the same area with those from other localities.  相似文献

Abstract– 40Ar/39Ar dating of potassium feldspar (primary spherulitic‐blocky and secondary idiomorphic K‐feldspar) separated from impact‐metamorphosed gneiss found near Videix in the western central part of the Rochechouart impact structure (NW Massif Central, France) yielded a Rhaetian combined age of 201 ± 2 Ma (2σ), indistinguishable within uncertainty from the age of the Triassic/Jurassic boundary. Ballen quartz intergrown with the primary K‐feldspar indicates post‐shock temperatures exceeding approximately 1000 °C that affected the precursor gneiss. Geochemically, both feldspar types represent essentially pure potassium end‐members. Apart from the approximately 15 km diameter impact deposit area, the youngest crystallization age known for basement rocks in this part of the Massif Central is approximately 300 Ma. No endogenic magmatic‐thermal events are known to have occurred later in this region. The K‐feldspar recrystallized from local feldspar melts and superimposed post‐shock hydrothermal crystallization, probably within some thousands of years after the impact. It is, therefore, suggested that the 40Ar/39Ar age for the Videix gneiss (as a potassic “impact metasomatite”) dates the Rochechouart impact, in consistence with evidence for K‐metasomatism in the Rochechouart impactites. The new age value is distinctly younger than the previously obtained Karnian–Norian age for Rochechouart and, thus, contradicts the Late Triassic multiple impact theory postulated some years ago. In agreement with the paleogeographic conditions in the western Tethys domain around the Triassic/Jurassic boundary, the near‐coastal to shallow marine Rochechouart impact is compatible with the formation of seismites and tsunami deposits in the latest Triassic of the British Isles and possible related deposits in other parts of Europe.  相似文献

Abstract— The circular Cloud Creek structure in central Wyoming, USA is buried beneath ?1200 m of Mesozoic sedimentary rocks and has a current diameter of ?7 km. The morphology/morphometry of the structure, as defined by borehole, seismic, and gravity data, is similar to that of other buried terrestrial complex impact structures in sedimentary target rocks, e.g., Red Wing Creek in North Dakota, USA. The structure has a fault‐bordered central peak with minimum diameter of ?1.4 km, composed predominantly of Paleozoic carbonates thickened by thrust faulting and brecciation, and is elevated some 520 m above equivalent strata beyond the outer rim of the structure. There is a ?1.6 km wide annular trough sloping away from the central peak (maximum structural relief, 300 m) and terminated by a detached, fault‐bounded, rim anticline. The youngest rocks within the structure are Late Triassic (Norian?) clastics and these are overlain unconformably by post‐impact Middle Jurassic (Bathonian?) sandstones and shales. Thus, the formation of the Cloud Creek structure is dated chronostratigraphicly as ?190 ± 20 Ma. Reported here for the first time are measurements of planar deformation features (PDFs) in shocked quartz grains in thin sections made from drill cuttings recovered in a borehole drilled at the southern perimeter of the central peak. Other, less definitive microstructures consistent with impact occur in samples collected from boreholes drilled into the central peak and rim anticline. The shock‐metamorphic evidence confirms an impact origin for the Cloud Creek structure.  相似文献

The relationship between the Ricker Hills Tillite (RHT), which represents the northernmost outcrop of lithified continental glacial deposits in Victoria Land, is discussed with respect to the glacial landscape assemblage of the Ricker Hills, a nunatak at the internal border of the Transantarctic Mountains. A warm-based ice sheet deposited the tillite and induced syn- to post-depositional glacial deformation under wet conditions both of the tillite and of the bedrock. The thickness of the ice sheet on the nunatak is estimated to have been 600 m, at most. The area had been deeply eroded before deposition of the RHT as documented by the low elevation of tillite outcrops located in overdeepened depressions of the nunatak. Micropaleontological analysis evidences only the presence of Permian to Jurassic palynomorphs. X-ray diffraction and SEM–EDS analyses of clay minerals in the RHT indicate continental chemical weathering under wet conditions after the RHT deposition. As documented by clay mineral assemblage variation in CRP drillholes, the progressive cooling of the Antarctic continent allowed chemical weathering in “warm” conditions until the Late Oligocene period in southern Victoria Land, leading to a chronological constrain for RHT deposition. Conservatively estimating the sea level to have been between the tillite outcrops and the erosional trimline limiting horns in the Ricker Hills, at the time of RHT deposition, we suggest that the maximum uplift of the area would not have exceeded 900–1500 m since at least Late Oligocene.  相似文献

In this study, we report on the validation of process-based forest growth and carbon and nitrogen model of TRIPLEX against observed data, and the use of the model to investigate the potential impacts and interaction of climate change and increasing atmospheric CO2 on forest net primary productivity (NPP) and carbon budgets in northeast of China. The model validation results show that the simulated tree total volume, NPP, total biomass and soil carbon are consistent with observed data across the Northeast of China, demonstrating that the improved TRIPLEX model is able to simulate forest growth and carbon dynamics of the boreal and temperate forest ecosystems at regional scale. The climate change would increase forest NPP and biomass carbon but decrease overall soil carbon under all three climate change scenarios. The combined effects of climate change and CO2 fertilization on the increase of NPP were estimated to be 10–12% for 2030s and 28–37% in 2090s. The simulated effects of CO2 fertilization significantly offset the soil carbon loss due to climate change alone. Overall, future climate change and increasing atmospheric CO2 would have a significant impact on the forest ecosystems of Northeastern China.  相似文献

Late Cenozoic terrestrial deposits are widespread across the northern coastal regions of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and represent diverse fluvial, estuarine and deltaic environments. The dating and correlation of these deposits rely on stratigraphically-associated marine index beds, mammalian and molluscan faunas and magnetostratigraphy. In detail the geometries of these sediment bodies are extremely complex, typically varying between localities and representing many cycles of incision and aggradation. However, the overall disposition of the sediments reflects the transition from the uplifting sediment source region to the north and the subsiding depocentre in the interior of the Black Sea to the south. Since the Middle Miocene the area of the Paratethys/Black Sea depocentre has decreased significantly, but since the Middle Pliocene the hinge zone between uplift and subsidence has been located close to the modern coastline. A combination of regional and local differential crustal movements has given rise to the great variety of fluvial sediment bodies, to the erosion–aggradation cycles, different phases and river activity and to the various fluvial landforms that have all been important in landscape development in this region during the past 12 Ma. The fluvial erosion–accumulation cycles (during the upper Serravillian–Messinian, the Zanclean–late Gelasian, and the Pleistocene) and corresponding cycles of relief dissection and planation are reconstructed against a background of local sea-level changes and climatic variations determined from palaeobotanical data. The maximum fluvial incision occurred in the early Zanclean time with alluvial coastal plains, unique in this area, developing in the Gelasian. Increased climatic aridity during the Pleistocene caused a reduction of fluvial activity in comparison with the Late Miocene and Pliocene. The sea-level oscillations and Pleistocene glaciations affected fluvial processes in different ways. The most remarkable events were the substantial reduction of fluvial activity during the Messinian dessication in the Black Sea and drainage of the shelf, with intensive dissection, coeval with the Last Glaciation.  相似文献

The permafrost area in China is about 2.15×106 km2, and is generally characterized by altitudinal permafrost. Permafrost in China can be divided into latitudinal and altitudinal types, the latter can be further divided into plateau and alpine permafrost. Altitudinal permafrost also can be divided into five thermal stability types. The permafrost environment has changed significantly since the Late Pleistocene. In northeastern China, the southern limit of permafrost extended to 41–42°N during the last glaciation maximum; in the Holocene megathermal, it retreated northward. The ice wedges and permafrost formed during the Late Pleistocene are still present in the northern part of the Da-Xing'anling Mountains. The inactive ice wedges at Yitulihe indicate a cooling and subsequent permafrost expansion during the Late Pleistocene. The lower limit of altitudinal permafrost in western China has elevated from 800 to 1500 m since the last glaciation maximum. Compared with that in northern Europe and North America, latitudinal permafrost in northeastern China is less sensitive to climatic warming, but altitudinal permafrost, especially permafrost on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP), is sensitive to climatic warming. Since the early 20th century, significant permafrost degradation has occurred and is occurring in most permafrost regions in China. Due to the combined influence of climatic warming and increasing anthropogenic activities, substantial retreat of permafrost is expected on the QTP and in northeastern China during the 21st century. Permafrost degradation has and will cast great influence on engineering construction, water resources and environments in the cold regions of China. The wetlands in the cold regions of China emit significant amounts of CH4 and N2O to the atmosphere and uptake atmospheric CO2 at a considerable rate, which might contribute to the global atmospheric carbon budget and feedback to climatic systems. However, uncertainties about permafrost changes, rates of changes and their environmental impacts are still large and call for intensive studying.  相似文献

Nearly 15 years after the proposal of the superanoxia concept (Isozaki, Y., 1994. Superanoxia across the Permo–Triassic boundary: record in accreted deep-sea pelagic chert in Japan. In: Embry, A.F., Beauchamp, B., Glass, D.J. (Eds.), Pangea: Global Environments and Resources. Memoir, Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists, 17, pp. 805–812.), it is an appropriate timing to re-evaluate its geological context with the updated dataset. Kakuwa (Kakuwa, Y., 2008. Evaluation of palaeo-oxygenation of the ocean bottom across the Permian–Triassic boundary. Global and Planetary Change 63, 40–56.) lately discussed that the deep-sea anoxia across the Permian–Triassic boundary (P–TB) may have been much shorter than previously proposed, on the basis of ichnofabrics and geochemical data; however, his interpretations of the data do not appear straightforward nor persuading, and thus his claim is likely misled. Here we raise comments to his explanation on the following four issues: 1) invalid application of ichnofabric indices for shallow sea sediments to deep-sea cherts, 2) misinterpretation of Ce anomaly as a redox indicator, 3) improper application of various redox sensitive trace elements, and 4) questionable interpretations of δ34S data of pyrites.  相似文献

The Galilean satellite eclipse technique for measuring the aerosol distribution in the Jovian lower stratosphere and upper troposphere is described and applied using 30 color observations of 12 natural satellite eclipses obtained with the 200-in Hale telescope. These events probe the North and South Polar Regions, the North Temperate Belt, the South Equatorial Belt, the South Tropical Zone, the South Temperate Zone, and the Great Red Spot. Aerosol is found above the visible cloud tops in all locations. It is very tenuous and varies with altitude, increasing rapidly with downward passage through the tropopause. The aerosol extinction coefficient at 1.05 μm is 1.0 ± 0.05 × 10?8 cm?1 at the tropopause and the mass density is a few times 10?13 g cm?3. The observations require some aerosol above the tropopause but do not clearly determine its structure. The present analysis emphasizes an extended haze distribution, but the alternate possibility that the stratospheric aerosol resides in a thin layer is not excluded. The vertical aerosol optical depth above the tropopause at 1.05 μm exceeds 0.04 in the NPR, SPR, NTB, SEB, and StrZ, is ~0.006 ± 0.003 in the STZ, and is ~ 0.003 ± 0.001 above the GRS. The aerosol extinction increases with decreasing wavelength in the STZ and NTB and indicates a particle radius of 0.2–0.5 μm; a radius of ~0.9 μm is indicated in the STrZ.  相似文献

Determination of Stellar Parameters with GAIA   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The GAIA Galactic survey satellite will obtain photometry in 15 filters of over 109 stars in our Galaxy across a very wide range of stellar types. No other planned survey will provide so much photometric information on so many stars. I examine the problem of how to determine fundamental physical parameters (T eff, log g, [Fe/H] etc.) from these data. Given the size, multidimensionality and diversity of this dataset, this is a challenging task beyond any encountered so far in large-scale stellar parametrization. I describe the problems faced (initial object identification, interstellar extinction, multiplicity, missing data etc.) and present a framework in which they can be addressed. A probabilistic approach is advocated on the grounds that it can take advantage of additional information (e.g. priors and data uncertainties) in a consistent and useful manner, as well as give meaningful results in the presence of poor or degenerate data. Furthermore, I suggest an approach to parametrization which can use the other information GAIA will acquire, in particular the parallax, which has not previously been available for large-scale multidimensional parametrization. Several of the problems identified and ideas suggested will be relevant to other large surveys, such as SDSS, DIVA,FAME, VISTA and LSST, as well as stellar parametrization in a virtual observatory. Observations by the Mariner 10 spacecraft suggest that the lobate scarps on Mercury, which have been interpreted to record at most 1-2 km of radial contraction of the planet after the end of the Late Heavy Bombardment, possess a global, preferred N-S orientation but lack a strong latitudinal dependence on their surface expression. Here, we reexamine the idea that a decrease in the planetary rotation rate (despinning) coupled with global contraction of at least 3-5.5 km prior to the end of Late Heavy Bombardment resulted in global N-S oriented thrust faults. The surface expression of these faults is assumed to have been erased by the end of the Late Heavy Bombardment, and the faults were subsequently reactivated by later global contraction, producing generally N-S oriented thrust faults from an isotropic stress field. We use the estimate of >3-5.5 km contraction prior to ∼4 Ga as an additional constraint to thermomechanical simulations of the evolution of Mercury, finding that a wide range of models are consistent with this observation. The fact that a wide range of states are consistent with the contraction of Mercury prior to the end of Late Heavy Bombardment but only a restricted set of states are consistent with the at most 1-2 km of subsequent contraction bolsters the idea that there may be hidden strain on Mercury, features unseen by Mariner 10 but likely visible to the MESSENGER spacecraft.  相似文献

A method for surface modeling of land cover change (SMLC) is developed on the basis of establishing transition probability matrixes between land cover types and HLZ types. SMLC is used to simulate land cover scenarios of China for the years 2039, 2069 and 2099, for which HLZ scenarios are first simulated in terms of HadCM3 climatic scenarios that are downscaled in zonal model of spatial climate change in China. This paper also analyzes spatial distribution of land cover types, area change and mean center shift of each land cover type, ecotope diversity, and patch connectivity under the land cover scenarios. The results show that cultivated land would decrease and woodland would expand greatly with climatic change, which coincides with consequences expected by implementation of Grain-for-Green policy. Nival area would shrink, and desertification area would expand at a comparatively slow rate in future 100 years. Climate change would generally cause less ecotope diversity and more patch connectivity. Ecosystems in China would have a pattern of beneficial cycle after efficient ecological conservation and restoration. However, if human activities would exceed regulation capacity of ecosystems themselves, the ecosystems in China might deteriorate more seriously.  相似文献

Asteroids and comets are surviving members of the vast planetesimal population that was distributed across the early solar system. They appear to be a diverse set of bodies but we present evidence from comet samples that the body‐to‐body diversity of the initial rocky component mix in planetesimals may have declined with distance from the Sun. Laboratory measurements of the minor element Mn in olivine collected from Comet Wild 2 suggests that the micron‐sized rocky crystalline contents of this comet formed in numerous inner solar system environments. The results are consistent with a scenario where silicates such as olivine form at incandescent temperatures in multiple environments and then mix as they are transported to distant cold regions where silicates could accrete with ice and organics to form comets. Accreting far from silicate formation regions, many ice‐rich planetesimals are likely to have started with similar complex mixtures of diverse rocky components formed in various high‐temperature environments. This contrasts with asteroidal meteorite parent bodies whose silicates retain regional properties that give different chondrite classes their distinctive properties.  相似文献

Bell Regio is a highland fragment south of Ishtar Terra, extending 1300 km in N-S direction and 900 km in E-W direction. South of this region Eisila Regio is located with an E-W extension of 8000 km and a width of 2000 km. Bell Regio consists of two large massifs: a northern massif with maximum altitudes of 2.5 to 3.0 km above the 6051 km datum and with a semi-corona (other coronae on Venus are associated with volcanic-tectonic processes) and a southern massif with a maximum of 4 to 4.5 km above the datum. The possible shield volcano Tepev Mons of 250 km in diameter is superimposed on the southern massif. It shows a radar dark crater of 40 km diameter on its eastern flank, a crater-like feature of 15 km diameter on the top and a radar bright area extending from the dark crater across the summit. South of Tepev Mons are several volcanic structures with summit depressions. The crest of Bell Regio exhibits a N-S extending fossa system. The whole fresh appearing plain-like area has been classified as rather young compared to other units. Gravity data show a maximum of 33 mGal at Bell Regio and 35 mGal at eastern Eisila Regio. The basins north and south of the highland fragments are associated with gravity lows.Density models have been calculated along the gravity profile Rev. 163 of Pioneer Venus Orbiter across Bell and Eisila Regiones assuming Airy isostatic compensation of the topography and considering several boundary conditions (e.g. mean crustal thickness T<- 100 km). There are two groups of density models in the case of Airy compensation. In the first group global total compensation is assumed along the profile and regional partial compensation for Bell and Eisila Regiones. This solution gives a range of possible models with 10 km <- T <- 100 km and a partial compensation for Bell and Eisila Regiones between 12% and 55%. Thus these two highland fragments show subsurface surplus masses.The second group of models considers for the whole profile total compensation with a global T <- 100 km and a regional very large depth of compensation for Bell and Eisila Regiones, i.e. T > 100 km.The highland of Beta Regio has, like Bell Regio, a N-S rifting system, volcanic structures, a fresh appearing plain-like surface and either deep-seating compensating masses or near surface surplus masses. Bell can be considered as little sister of Beta. The geological and geophysical results imply a volcanic-tectonic uplift over a hot spot. The conditions of Atla Regio in eastern Aphrodite Terra are similar.
