Sr- and Pb-isotope compositions and Rb, Sr, Ce, Nd and K2O contents have been determined for the Iblean Mountain and Mt. Etna volcanics in eastern Sicily. Isotope variations within each of these regions have been interpreted as reflecting the heterogeneous nature of the source regions in the upper mantle. The87Sr/86Sr ratios of all these volcanics are less than 0.705, which is taken to indicate that their source regions evolved with lower Rb/Sr ratios than the bulk earth.87Sr/86Sr and Ce/Nd ratios determined in the Mt. Etna tholeiites are positively correlated suggesting that fractionation(s) in Rb/Sr are accompanied by fractionation(s) in light REE in the source regions of these volcanics. Pb-isotope compositions form a linear array in the207Pb/204Pb-206Pb/204Pb plot which has a negative age slope. This array represents either a very recent U/Pb fractionation in the source regions, or a mantle mixing line. Imperfect correlation between the Sr- and Pb-isotope compositions of these volcanics suggests that U/Pb and Rb/Sr have not always increased or decreased in unison during the differentiation of these source regions.  相似文献

Trace element and isotopic characteristics of late Carboniferous to early Permian minettes and kersantites have been determined. These lamprophyres have been sampled throughout the Western European Hercynian orogen, from Brittany to the west to Schwarzwald to the east. In spite of sharp petrological differences reflected by mineralogy and major element geochemistry, minettes and kersantites exhibit close identity with respect to trace element and isotopic features. These features comprise enrichment in incompatible elements, highCs/Rb and lowCe/Pb ratios, Ta and Ti relative depletion, high abundance in transition elements and highNi/Mg ratios. Pb isotope ratios are undistinguishable from those measured on Hercynian continental crust. Initial143Nd/144Nd ratios are between0.5120 (εi −5) and0.5122 (εi −1) for minettes and kersantites whereas initial87Sr/86Sr ratios vary between 0.7055–0.710 for minettes and 0.707–0.708 for kersantites. No simple mixing relations are visible on RbSr and SmNd isochron diagrams. The exceptional homogeneity of these geochemical characteristics along a 1000 km traverse does not allow for an hypothesis of enrichment through upper level assimilation and thus leads to propose that these rocks originated through melting of a mantle enriched by recycling of crustal material.  相似文献

Chronology and geochemistry of the Shangyu gabbro-diorite in western Shandong were studied to understand their petrogenesis and the nature of the Mesozoic lithospheric mantle. The Shangyu intru-sion is mainly composed of a suite of gabbro-diorite. Zircons from the intrusion display eu-hedral-subhedral in shape and have high Th/U ratios (1.23―2.87), implying their magmatic origin. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating results for two samples indicate that they were formed in the Early Cre-taceous, yielding weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 129±1Ma and 134±2Ma, respectively. Except for early cumulate such as sample QT-19, their SiO2 and MgO contents range from 50.12% to 56.37% and from 3.52% to 6.37%, respectively. Moreover, the gabbro-diorites are characterized by high Mg# (0.54―0.63), enrichment in Na (Na2O/K2O ratios more than 1), Cr (73×10-6―217×10-6) and Ni (34×10-6―241×10-6), and intensive enrichments in light rare earth elements (LREEs) and large ion lithophile elements (LILEs) and depletion in high field strength elements (HFSEs). Their initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios and ε Nd(t) values range from 0.70962 to 0.71081 and from-16.60 to-13.04, respectively. Taken together with the Early Creta-ceous high-Mg diorites and the mantle xenoliths from the Tietonggou and Jinling as well as basalts from the Fangcheng and Feixian, it is suggested that the primary magma for the Shangyu gab-bro-diorites should be derived from the enriched lithospheric mantle intensively modified by conti-nental crust. The Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic compositions for the Early Cretaceous high-Mg diorites in western Shandong display a trend of spatial variations, i.e., initial 87Sr/86Sr, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb ratios de-creasing and ε Nd(t) values increasing from southeast to northwest in western Shandong, which is con-sistent with the tectonic model that the Yangtze Craton subducted beneath the North China Craton oriented in north-west direction in the Early Mesozoic.  相似文献

This study presents major-, trace-element, and rhenium–osmium (Re–Os) isotope and elemental data for basalts and gabbros from the Zermatt-Saas ophiolite, metamorphosed to eclogite-facies conditions during the Alpine orogeny. Igneous crystallisation of the gabbros occurred at 163.5 ± 1.8 Ma and both gabbro and basalt were subject to ‘peak’ pressure–temperature (PT) conditions of > 2.0 GPa and ~ 600 °C at about 40.6 ± 2.6 Ma.Despite such extreme PT conditions, Re–Os isotope and abundance data for gabbroic rocks suggest that there has been no significant loss of either of these elements during eclogite-facies metamorphism. Indeed, 187Re–187Os isotope data for both unaltered gabbros and gabbroic eclogites lie on the same best-fit line corresponding to an errorchron age of 160 ± 6 Ma, indistinguishable from the age of igneous crystallisation. In contrast, metamorphosed basalts do not yield age information; rather most possess 187Re/188Os ratios that cannot account for the measured 187Os/188Os ratios, given the time since igneous crystallisation. Taken with their low Re contents these data indicate that the basalts have experienced significant Re loss (∼ 50–60%), probably during high-pressure metamorphism. Barium, Rb and K are depleted in both gabbroic and basaltic eclogites. In contrast, there is no evident depletion of U in either lithology. Many ocean-island basalts (OIB) possess radiogenic Os and Pb isotope compositions that have been attributed to the presence of recycled oceanic crust in the mantle source. Published Re–Os data for high-P metabasaltic rocks alone (consistent with this study) have been taken to suggest that excessive amounts of oceanic crust are required to generate such signatures. However, this study shows that gabbro may exert a strong influence on the composition of recycled oceanic crust. Using both gabbro and basalt (i.e. a complete section of oceanic crust) calculations suggest that the presence of ≥ 40% of 2 Ga oceanic crust can generate the radiogenic Os compositions seen in some OIB. Furthermore, lower U/Pb ratios in gabbro (compared to basalt) serve to limit the 206Pb/204Pb ratios generated, while having a minimal effect on Os ratios. These results suggest that the incorporation of gabbro into recycling models provides a means of producing a range of OIB compositions having lower (and variable) 206Pb/204Pb ratios, but still preserving 187Os/188Os compositions comparable to HIMU-type OIB.  相似文献

This paper reports geochemical and Pb-Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of the Indosinian Yangba (215 Ma),Nanyili (225 Ma) and Mopi granitoids from the Bikou block of the northwestern margin of the Yangtze plate. These granitoids are enriched in Al (Al2O3:14.56%―16.48%) and Sr (352 μg/g―1047 μg/g),and depleted in Y (<16 μg/g) and HREE (e.g. Yb<1.61 μg/g),resulting in high Sr/Y (36.3―150) and (La/Yb)N (7.8―36.3) ratios and strongly fractionationed REE patterns. The Indosinian granotoids show initial Sr isotopic ratios (ISr) from 0.70419 to 70752,εNd(t) values from-3.1 to -8.5,and initial Pb isotopic ratios 206Pb/204Pb=17.891-18.250,207Pb/204Pb=15.494-15.575,and 208Pb/204Pb=37.788-38.335. Their geochemi-cal signatures indicate that the granitoids are adakitic. However, they are distinct from some adakites, generated by partial melting of subducted oceanic slab and/or underplated basaltic lower crust,be-cause they have high K (K2O: 1.49%―3.84%) and evolved Nd isotopic compositions, with older Nd iso-topic model ages (TDM=1.06―1.83 Ga). Geochemical and Sr-Nd isotopic compositions suggest that the magmas of the Insoninian adakitic rocks in the Bikou block were derived from partial melting of thick-ened basaltic lower crust. Combined with regional analyses,a lithospheric delamination model after collision between the North China and South China plates can account for the Indosinian adakitic magma generation. On the other hand, based on the Pb-Sr-Nd isotopic probing to the magma sources of the adakitic rocks,it is suggested that there is an unexposed continent-type basement under the exposed Bikou Group volcanic rocks. This can constrain on the Bikou Group volcanic rocks not to be MORB-or OIB-type.  相似文献

The Chinkuashih district at northern Taiwan hosts one of the largest Au deposits in the western Pacific gold province. Gold were precipitated from hydrothermal solutions as native gold or incorporated into sulfides at a temperature range of 200-350 °C. The sulfides in ore mines have 187Os/188Os ratios varying from 0.139 to 0.249. The positive 187Os/188Os-1/Os correlation is consistent with derivation from the hybrid fluids containing various proportions of mantle and crustal components. The crustal component was the meteoric water that had acquired its Sr and Os isotopic signatures from the local sedimentary formations and dacitic intrusions. The mantle component was the magmatic fluid segregated from the dacitic magma by fractional crystallization. Based on the 187Os/188Os-1/Os correlation, the hybrid fluids forming the Chinkuashih sulfides contained less than 30% magmatic fluid, except for one sulfide sample from Hsumei, which required >40% magmatic fluid. Compared to meteoric water, the magmatic fluid contained a higher Os content (130 times higher) and was enriched in Os relative to Sr with an Os/Sr ratio two orders higher than that of the crustal fluid. Consequently, the Os budget in the hybrid fluids was controlled by the magmatic fluid, although the meteoric water was volumetrically dominated. If gold and Os behave similarly in chemistry, the Chinkuashih gold deposits are of mantle origin and the area where sulfides with the greatest mantle Os signature may host undiscovered gold deposits. Finally, the 187Os/188Os ratios of sulfides show no relationship with the mineral assemblages of sulfides, implying that the sulfide mineral assemblages reflect local surfacial redox conditions rather than the chemical characteristics of parental fluids.  相似文献

An integrated study based on incompatible trace elements and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopes is presented in order to assess the mantle sources involved in the genesis of the Paraná Magmatic Province (PMP) tholeiites. Particular emphasis is given to 33 new Pb isotope and concentration data obtained in representative samples of low-TiO2 (LTiB) and high-TiO2 (HTiB) flood basalts that occur in the province. Results show important differences with respect to type and location of these rocks. The LTiB and HTiB from northern PMP exhibit very similar initial Pb isotope ratios (average LTiB vs HTiB: 206Pb/204Pbi=17.78±0.03 vs 17.65±0.02; 207Pb/204Pbi=15.53±0.01 vs 15.52±0.01; 208Pb/204Pbi=38.12±0.03 vs 38.05±0.04). The LTiB from southern PMP, with initial 87Sr/86Sri≤0.7060, show small variation in initial Pb isotope compositions (average 206Pb/204Pbi=18.20±0.07; 207Pb/204Pbi=15.61±0.01; 208Pb/204Pbi=38.32±0.10), which are highly enriched in radiogenic Pb in comparison to the northern PMP analogues. The HTiB from southern PMP have initial Pb isotope ratios (average 206Pb/204Pbi=17.45±0.09; 207Pb/204Pbi=15.50±0.01; 208Pb/204Pbi=37.89±0.03) slightly less radiogenic compared with the HTiB from northern PMP. The data cover a large range of isotope compositions, which are accompanied by systematic changes in incompatible trace element ratios and Sr–Nd isotopes, indicating contributions from different mantle sources. The remarkable chemical and isotope differences between PMP basalts, N-MORB and Tristan da Cunha least evolved volcanics indicate that these asthenospheric sources did not play a significant role in the basalt genesis, suggesting generation from the melting of heterogeneous lithospheric mantle sources. The close similarity between the radiogenic isotopes of the Cretaceous carbonatites that surround the PMP and those of the HTiB rock-types and the LTiB from the northern Paraná suggests the involvement of the same mantle components in their genesis: a dominant EMI end member and a radiogenic isotope enriched component of EMII-type, as some phlogopite-peridotite mantle xenoliths (Japecanga) from the Alto Paranaíba Igneous Province. The latter component seems also to have an important role in the origin of the LTiB from the southern Paraná, where the other end member is highly depleted in radiogenic lead similar to DMM.  相似文献

Energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS) track analyses of chlorite-dominated quench-textured microkrystite spherules and LA-ICPMS spot analyses of intra-spherule Ni-rich skeletal quench chromites from the 3243 ± 4 Ma Barberton S3 impact fallout unit (lower part of the Mapepe Formation, Fig Tree Group, Barberton greenstone belt, Kaapvaal Craton, South Africa) reveal fractionated siderophile and PGE trace element patterns corresponding to chondrite-contaminated komatiite/basalt compositions. The chlorites, interpreted as altered glass, contain sharp siderophile elements and PGE spikes inherited from decomposed metal and Ni-rich chromite particles. LA-ICPMS spot analysis identifies PGE-rich micronuggets in Ni–chromites (Ir ∼ 12–100 ppm, Os ∼ 9–86 ppm, Ru ∼ 5–43 ppm) and lower levels of the volatile PGEs (Rh ∼ 1–11 ppm, Pd ∼ 0.68–0.96 ppm). Previously reported PGE anomalies in the order of hundreds of ppb in some Barberton microkrystite spherules are accounted for in terms of disintegration of PGE-rich micronuggets. Replacement of the Ni-chromites by sulphide masks primary chondritic patterns and condensation element distribution effects. High refractory/volatile PGE ratios pertain to both the chlorites and the Ni-rich chromites, consistent with similar compositional relations in microkrystite spherules from other impact fallout units in the Barberton greenstone belt and the Pilbara Craton, Western Australia. The near-consistent low Pt/Re and high V/Cr and V/Sc ratios in chlorite of the spherules, relative to komatiites, are suggestive of selective atmospheric condensation of the spherules which favored the relatively more refractory Re and V. Selective condensation may also be supported by depletion in the volatile Yb relative to Sm. Ni–Cr relationships allow estimates of the proportion of precursor crustal and meteoritic components of the spherules. Mass balance calculations based on the iridium flux allow estimates of the order of magnitude of the diameter of the chondritic projectile.  相似文献

Basalts dredged from ridge axes within 70 km of the Indian Ocean triple junction in the western Indian Ocean have many geochemical and petrologic characteristics in common with depleted mid-ocean ridge basalts (MORBs) from the Atlantic and Pacific. For example there is overlap in major and trace element abundances, and in diagnostic ratios such as K/Rb (700–925) and La/Sm (less than chondritic). Also, glass inclusions in calcic plagioclase (An89–90) provide evidence for a primitive high Mg/Fe, low TiO2 melt. In contrast, basalts dredged from 250 to 400 km southwest of the triple junction on the Southwest Indian Ridge are compositionally distinct from depleted MORB. They are nepheline-normative or slightly hypersthene normative and have higher alkali metal and incompatible element abundances than depleted MORBs with similar MgO contents. All of these Indian Ocean basalts have Sr, Nd and Pb isotope ratios which corroborate previous studies showing that relative to depleted Atlantic and Pacific MORB, many Indian Ocean MORBs have low206Pb/204Pb and high87Sr/86Sr. However, individual Indian Ocean ridges have different radiogenic isotope characteristics, and basalts from the vicinity of the triple junction have unusually high87Sr/86Sr (∼ 0.7032) at low206Pb/204Pb ratios (17.3–18.2). Moreover, the shallow axial region of the Central Indian Ridge from ∼ 12°S to the triple junction (26°S) has high87Sr/86Sr (> 0.7030). Apparently, the depleted component of Indian Ocean MORBs has been contaminated by an isotopically unusual component which does not occur in Pacific and Atlantic MORBs, and is not dominant in basalts from many Indian Ocean islands. The degree of this contamination is not uniform in western Indian Ocean MORB; the most contaminated basalts occur from 12°S on the Central Indian Ridge to the triple junction (∼ 26°S) and easterly along the Southeast Indian Ridge to ∼ 72°E.  相似文献

Analyses for major and trace elements, including REE, and Sr, Nd and Pb isotopes are reported from a suite of Siluro-Devonian lavas from Fife, Scotland. The rocks form part of a major calc-alkaline igneous province developed on the Scottish continental margin above a WNW-dipping subduction zone. Within the small area (ca. 15 km2) considered, rock types range from primitive basalts and andesites (high Mg, Ni and Cr) to lavas more typical of modern calc-alkaline suites with less than 30 ppm Ni and Cr. There is a marked silica gap between these rocks (< 62%) and the rare rhyolites (> 74%), yet the latter can be generated by fractional crystallization from the more mafic lavas. In contrast, variation in incompatible element concentrations and ratios in the mafic lavas can not be generated by fractional crystallization processes. Increasing SiO2 is accompanied by increasing Rb, K, Pb, U and Ba relative to Sr and high field strength elements, increasing LREE enrichment and increasing Sr calculated at 410 Ma, and by decreasing HREE, Eu/Eu*, Sm/Nd and Nd (410). Nd and Sr are roughly anticorrelated and have more radiogenic compositions than the mantle array, in common with data reported elsewhere from this part of the arc. The correlation extrapolates up to cross the mantle array within the composition field of the contemporary MORB source, and extrapolates down towards the probable compositional range of Lower Palaeozoic greywackes, which may form the uppermost 8 km of the crust, or may be supplied to the source by subduction. One sample, however, lies within the mantle array, and closely resembles lavas from northwestern parts of the arc, where a mantle source with mild time-integrated Rb/Sr and LREE enrichment has been inferred. The lavas have relatively high initial 207Pb/204Pb for their 206Pb/204Pb, a feature which has been interpreted elsewhere as the result of incorporation of a sediment component into arc magmas. The systematic changes with increasing SiO2 in isotopic and chemical parameters can be explained by mixing of a greywacke-derived component with depleted mantle. The various possible mixing mechanisms are discussed, and it is considered most likely that mixing occurred in the mantle source through greywacke subduction. The bulk of the Rb, K, Ba and Pb in the lavas is probably recycled from the crust, whereas less than some 40% of the Sr and Nd is recycled. The calc-alkaline chemical trends are solely a function of mixing with the sediment component.  相似文献

Tholeiitic basalts and sulfide deposits from the “Cyana” and “Alvin” diving programs (RITA project) on the East Pacific Rise were analyzed for Pb and Sr isotopes. The basalt data plot within the field defined previously by other East Pacific Rise basalts (206Pb/204Pb: 18.35–18.58;207Pb/204Pb: 15.48–15.53;208Pb/204Pb: 37.8–38.1;87Sr/86Sr: 0.7022–0.7025). Pb, U and Sr contents (~0.5, ~0.05 and ~110 ppm, respectively) and μ values (~6) are typical of MORB, whereas Th/U ratios (~3.5) are significantly higher. The Pb isotopic ratios of the sulfide samples are very homogeneous (206Pb/204Pb~18.47207Pb/204Pb~15.49208Pb/204Pb~37.90), and plot in the middle of the basalt field. This indicates that (1) the sulfide Pb was derived from the basaltic crust without any significant contribution from either seawater or hemipelagic sediments, and (2) the solutions from which the sulfides were deposited had uniform Pb isotopic composition. The Pb contents of three sulfide samples is relatively high (170–1310 ppm). The Sr contents of five sulfide samples are widely scattered from 12 to 210 ppm, with87Sr/86Sr ratios intermediate between basaltic and seawater values (0.70554±0.00005 to0.70795±0.00011). Leaching experiments show that both basalt-derived Sr and seawater Sr were present in the solutions which deposited the sulfides. In some cases, Sr was also adsorbed from seawater onto the sulfides following their deposition. Basalt-derived Sr and seawater Sr are also present in associated non-sulfide phases.  相似文献

Abstract We present chemical and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic compositions of three Triassic (226–241 Ma) calc‐alkaline granitoids (the Yeongdeok granite, Yeonghae diorite and Cheongsong granodiorite) and basement rocks in the northern Gyeongsang basin, south‐eastern Korea. These plutons exhibit typical geochemical characteristics of I‐type granitoids generated in a continental magmatic arc. The Yeongdeok and Yeonghae plutons have similar initial Sr, Nd and Pb isotope ratios (87Sr/86Srinitial = 0.7041 ~ 0.7050, ?Nd(t) = 2.3 ~ 4.0, 206Pb/204Pbfeldspar = 18.22 ~ 18.34), but distinct rare earth element patterns, suggesting that the two plutons formed from partial melting of a similar source material at different depths. The Cheongsong pluton has slightly more enriched Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic compositions (87Sr/86Srinitial = 0.7047 ~ 0.7065, ?Nd(t) = 3.9 ~ 2.8, 206Pb/204Pbfeldspar = 18.24 ~ 18.37) than the other two plutons. The Nd model ages of the basement rocks (1.1 ~ 1.4 Ga) are slightly older than those of the plutons (0.6 ~ 1.0 Ga). The initial Sr and Nd isotopic ratios of the plutons can be modeled by the mixing between the mid‐oceanic ridge basalt‐like depleted mantle component and the crustal component represented by basement rocks, which is also supported by Pb isotope data. The Sr and Nd isotope data from granitoids and basement rocks suggest that the Gyeongsang basin, the Hida belt and the inner zone of south‐western Japan share relatively young basement histories (middle Proterozoic), compared with those (early Proterozoic to Archean) of the Gyeonggi and Yeongnam massifs and the Okcheon belt. The Nd isotope data of basement rocks suggest that the Hida belt might be better correlated with the basement of the Gyeongsang basin than the Gyeonggi massif, the Okcheon belt or the Yeongnam massif, although it may represent an older continental margin of East Asia than the Gyeongsang basin considering its slightly older Nd model ages.  相似文献

The Mugouriwang Cenozoic volcanic rocks exposed in the north Qiangtang Block of Tibetan Plateau are mainly composed of basalt and andesitic-basalt,both characterized by the lower SiO2 (51%―54%),high refractory elements (i.e. Mg,Cr,Ni) as well as the moderate enrichment in light rare earth elements (LREE) relative to a slight depleted in Eu and high strength field elements (HFSE,i.e. Nb,Ta,Ti). Be-sides,the fairly low Sm/Yb value (3.07―4.35) could signify that the rocks should be derived directly from partial melting of the spinel lherzolite at the upper part of the asthenosphere. These rocks have radiogenic Sr and Pb (87Sr/86Sr = 0.705339 to 0.705667; 208Pb/204Pb = 38.8192 to 38.8937; 207Pb/204Pb = 15.6093 to 15.6245; 206Pb/204Pb = 18.6246 to 18.6383),and non-radiogenic Nd (143Nd/144Nd = 0.512604 to 0.512639; εNd = 0.02 to -0.66) in agreement with those values of the BSE mantle reservoir. The DUPAL anomaly of the rocks can be evidently attested by the △8/4Pb = 66.82 to 74.53 ,△7/4Pb = 9.88 to 11.42,△Sr>50,implying that the Mugouriwang volcanic rock is likely to be generated by partial melting of a Gondwana-bearing asthenospheric mantle ever matasomatised by the fluid from subduction zone. Depending on the previous study on the high-K calc-alkaline intermediate-felsic volcanics in the study area, this paper proposed that the fluids derived from the subducted Lhasa Block metasomatised the asthenosphere beneath the Qiangtang Block, and induced its partial melting, and then the melt under-plated the thickened Qiangtang lithosphere and caused the generation of the Cenozoic adakite-like felsic magmas in the Qiangtang region.  相似文献

Elemental and isotopic composition of organic matter from a terrestrial sequence including the palynological Cretaceous/Tertiary (K-T) boundary together with an Ir anomaly at York Canyon, New Mexico, record information about paleoclimatological and environmental conditions. Six layers of coal, carbonaceous shale and mudstone with high contents of organic material were selected for analysis. A Late Cretaceous coal bed 10 m below the K-T boundary and an Early Tertiary coal bed containing the K-T iridium anomaly at its base were sampled intensively. In the lower bed, the isotopic ratios13C/12C,15N/14N,andD/H and the elemental ratiosC/N andN/H, all varied sympathetically with one another over depth. In contrast, in the upper coal layer, only theD/H,C/N,andN/H ratios showed some coupling. Immediately above the K-T boundary, theδ13C values displayed a long-term shift of 1.8‰ to more negative values, while the hydrogen isotope ratios in these samples did not change significantly. We interpret the covariations in both coal layers as sympathetic responses of the isotopic and elemental ratios to climatic and environmental changes, as have been observed for younger sedimentary organic matter. The long-termδ13C shift during the early Tertiary is similar to the trend observed forδ13C values of marine carbonates. Our data thus support the proposal that the carbon cycle was perturbed globally by the effects of a drastically decreased marine bioproductivity along the K-T transition. The uncoupling of variations in the climatically sensitive isotopic and elemental ratios seen in the Early Tertiary coal bed provides evidence for major geochemical and environmental changes in the York Canyon area at the end of the Mesozoic. On the other hand, the constancy of δD values in the organic matter deposited at and above the K-T boundary gives no indication of significant changes in the hydrologic/climatic regimes as recorded in theD/H ratios at the site for several thousand years following the event which produced the high Ir concentrations. Our results provide constraints on models that have been advanced to explain that event and its consequences.  相似文献

Equations describing trace element and isotopic evolution in a magma chamber affected simultaneously by fractional crystallization and wallrock assimilation are presented for a model where the mass assimilation rate(?a) is an arbitrary fraction(r) of the fractional crystallization rate(?c). The equations also apply to recharge of a crystallizing magma. Relatively simple analytical expressions are obtained for both radiogenic isotope variations (Nd, Sr, Pb) and stable isotopes (O, H) including the effects of mass-dependent fractionation. Forr = 1 a modified zone refining equation is obtained for trace element concentrations, but forr < 1 behavior is a combination of zone refining and fractional crystallization. Asr → ∞, simple binary mixing is approached. The isotopic and trace element “mixing” trends generated can be much different from binary mixing, especially forr < 1. The model provides the basis for a more general approach to the problem of wallrock assimilation, and shows that binary mixing models are insufficient to rule out crustal assimilation as a cause of some of the isotopic variations observed in igneous rocks, including cases where clustering of isotopic values occurs partway between presumed endmember values. The coupled assimilation-fractional crystallization model provides an explanation for certain trace element and isotopic properties of continental margin orogenic magmas (e.g. Sr concentration versus87Sr/86Sr) which had previously been interpreted as evidence against assimilation. So-called “pseudoisochrons” can be understood as artifacts of contamination using this model. A significant correlation exists between country rock age and low143Nd/144Nd ratios in continental igneous rocks, clearly suggestive that crustal contamination is generally important.  相似文献

SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating, mineral chemical, element geochemical and Sr–Nd–Pb–Hf isotopic data have been determined for the Yulong monzogranite-porphyry in the eastern Tibet, China. The Yulong porphyry was emplaced into Triassic strata at about 39 Ma. The rocks are weakly peraluminous and show shoshonitic affinity, i.e., alkalis-rich, high K2O contents with high K2O / Na2O ratios, enrichment in LREE and LILE. They also show some affinities with the adakite, e.g., high SiO2 and Al2O3, and low MgO contents, depleted in Y and Yb, and enrichment in Sr with high Sr / Y and La / Yb ratios, and no Eu anomalies. The Yulong porphyry has radiogenic 87Sr / 86Sr (0.7063–0.7070) and unradiogenic 143Nd / 144Nd (εNd =  2.0 to − 3.0) ratios. The Pb isotopic compositions of feldspar phenocrysts separated from the Yulong porphyry show a narrow range of 206Pb / 204Pb ratios (18.71–18.82) and unusually radiogenic 207Pb / 204Pb (15.65–15.67) and 208Pb / 204Pb (38.87–39.00) ratios. In situ Hf isotopic composition of zircons that have been SHRIMP U–Pb dated is characterized by clearly positive initial εHf values, ranging from + 3.1 to + 5.9, most between + 4 and + 5. Phenocryst clinopyroxene geothermometry of the Yulong porphyry indicates that the primary magmas had anomalously high temperature (> 1200 °C). The source depth for the Yulong porphyry is at least 100 km inferred by the metasomatic volatile phase (phlogopite–carbonate) relations. Detailed geochemical and Sr–Nd–Pb–Hf isotopic compositions not only rule out fractional crystallization or assimilation-fractional crystallization processes, but also deny the possibility of partial melting of subducted oceanic crust or basaltic lower crust. Instead, low degree (1–5%) partial melting of a metasomatized lithosphere (phlogopite–garnet clinopyroxenite) is compatible with the data. This example gives a case study that granite can be derived directly by partial melting of an enriched lithospheric mantle, which is important to understand the source and origin of diverse granites.  相似文献

We report new trace element data for an extensive suite of quench basalt glasses dredged from the southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) between 40°S and 52.5°S. Ratios between highly incompatible trace elements are strongly correlated and indicate a systematic distribution of incompatible element enriched mid-ocean ridge basalt (MORB) (E-type: Zr/Nb=5.9-19, Y/Nb=0.9-8.4, (La/Sm)n=1.0-2.9) and incompatible element depleted MORB (N-type: Zr/Nb=30-69, Y/Nb=11-29, (La/Sm)n=0.48-0.79) along this section of the southern MAR. A notable feature of N-type MORB from the region is the higher than usual Ba/Nb (4-9), La/Nb (1.2-2.4) and primitive mantle normalised K/Nb ratios (>1). Ba/Nb ratios in E-type MORB samples from 47.5 to 49°S are especially elevated (>10). The occurrence and geographic distribution of E-type MORB along this section of the southern MAR can be correlated with the ridge-centred Shona and off-axis Discovery mantle plumes. In conjunction with published isotope data for a subset of the same sample suite [Douglass et al., J. Geophys. Res. 104 (1999) 2941], a model is developed whereby prior to the breakup of Gondwana and the opening of the South Atlantic Ocean, the underlying asthenospheric mantle was locally contaminated by fluids/melts rising from the major Mesozoic subduction zone along the south-southwest boundary of Gondwana, leaving a subduction zone geochemical imprint (elevated (K/Nb)n and 87Sr/86Sr ratios, decreased 143Nd/144Nd ratios). Subsequent impingement of three major mantle plume heads (Tristan/Gough, Discovery, Shona) resulted in heating and thermal erosion of the lowermost subcontinental lithosphere and dispersal into the convecting asthenospheric mantle. With the opening of the ocean basin, continued plume upwelling led to plume-ridge interactions and mixing between geochemically enriched mantle derived from the Shona and Discovery mantle plumes, material derived from delamination of the subcontinental lithosphere, and mildly subduction zone contaminated depleted asthenospheric mantle.  相似文献

We present concentrations of environmentally available (unfiltered acidified 2% v/v HNO3) As, Cu, Cd, Pb, V, Sr, and major ions including Ca2+, Cl?, and SO42? in a July 2005 and a March 2006 shallow snow profile from the lower Eliot Glacier, Mount Hood, Oregon, and its proglacial stream, Eliot Creek. Low enrichment factors (EF) with respect to crustal averages suggests that in fresh March 2006 snow environmentally available elements are derived primarily from lithogenic sources. Soluble salts occurred in lower and less variable concentrations in July 2005 snow than March 2006. Conversely, environmentally available trace elements occurred in greater and more variable concentrations in July 2005 than March 2006 snow. Unlike major solutes, particulate‐associated trace elements are not readily eluted during the melt season. Additionally, elevated surface concentrations suggest that they are likely added throughout the year via dry deposition. In a 1‐h stream sampling, ratios of dissolved (<0·45 µm) V:Cl?, Sr:Cl?, and Cu:Cl? are enriched in the Eliot Stream with respect to their environmentally available trace element to Cl? ratios in Eliot Glacier snow, suggesting chemical weathering additions in the stream waters. Dissolved Pb:Cl? is depleted in the Eliot Stream with respect to the ratio of environmentally available Pb to Cl? in snow, corresponding to greater adsorption onto particles at greater pH values. Abstract Geochemical and Sr–Nd–Pb isotope characteristics, as well as K–Ar geochronology of a massive pitchstone (volcanic glass) stock erupted into Late Cretaceous lapilli tuff and rhyolite in the Gohado area, southwestern Okcheon Belt, South Korea, are reported. The pitchstones are highly evolved with SiO2 contents ranging from ~72 to 73 wt%, K2O/Na2O ratios of 1.04–1.23 and low MgO/FeOt values (0.17–0.20). The pitchstones are weakly peraluminous and the ASI (molar Al2O3/Na2O + K2O + CaO) values are significantly lower than 1.1. The pitchstones also display a general calc‐alkaline nature with significant alkali contents. The rare earth elements (REE) compositions show moderately fractionated nature with (La/Yb)N ranging from 11 to 16. Chondrite normalized REE patterns show relative enrichment of light REE over heavy REE and moderate Eu anomaly (Eu/Eu* ratio varies from 0.53 to 0.57). A distinct negative Nb anomaly is observed for all pitchstones on a primitive mantle normalized trace element diagram, typical of subduction‐related magmatism and crustal‐derived granites. All these features are characteristic of I‐type granites derived from a continental arc. The pitchstones have Zr contents of 98.5–103.5 ppm with zircon thermometry yielding temperatures of 749–755°C (mean 752°C). The K–Ar analyses of representative pitchstone samples yielded ages of 58.7 ± 2.3 and 62.4 ± 2.1 Ma with a mean age of 61 Ma. The rocks show nearly uniform initial 87Sr/86Sr isotopic ratios of 0.7104–0.7106 and identical 143Nd/144Nd initial ratio of 0.5120. The rocks display negative εNd (61 Ma) values of ?12. The depleted mantle model ages (TDM) range from 1.54 Ga to 1.57 Ga. The Pb isotope ratios are 206Pb/204Pb = 18.522–18.552, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.642–15.680 and 208Pb/204Pb = 38.794–38.923. These ratios suggest that the Gohado pitchstones were formed in a continental arc environment by partial melting of a 1.54 Ga to 1.57 Ga parental sources of lower crustal rocks probably of mafic or intermediate compositions.  相似文献

Late Early Paleozoic mafic-ultramafic dykes and volcanic rocks from the South Qinling belt are char- acterized by εNd( t ) = 3.28― 5.02, (87Sr/86Sr)i= 0.70341― 0.70555, (206Pb/204Pb)i = 17.256― 18.993, (207Pb/204Pb)i= 15.505―15.642, (208Pb/204Pb)i=37.125―38.968, ?8/4=21.18―774.43, ?7/4=8.11―18.82. These charac- teristics suggest that they derived from a Middle Neoproterozoic mantle with isotopic compositions of mixed HIMU, EMII and minor EMI components. We interpret that these rocks were melting products of depleted mantle modified by subducted ancient oceanic crust and continental margin sediments along the northern margin of Yangtze block during Early Neoproterozoic.  相似文献
