Theoretical calculations are made to study the observability of isotropic components of seismic sources. In particular we consider the 1970 deep Colombian earthquake, for which a precursory isotropic component was previously reported by Gilbert and Dziewonski.We compare an ultra-long period vertical record at Pasadena of the 1970 event to synthetic seismograms calculated both for Gilbert and Dziewonski's source model and for the pure double-couple source of Furumoto and Fukao, and obtain better overall agreement for the latter. The amplitude of the long-period synthetic for the isotropic source is about 5–15 times smaller than the synthetic for the deviatoric source, suggesting that the data may be relatively insensitive to the presence of a small isotropic source. When this possibility was tested, the overall agreement was found to be almost completely insensitive to the presence of even a reasonably large isotropic component.However, the isotropic source was derived from multi-station moment tensor inversion, rather than from single-station studies. A numerical experiment on the effect of lateral heterogeneity of eigenfrequencies and of Q on the inversion for the moment tensor shows that even relatively small amounts of heterogeneity can produce spurious isotropic sources from moment tensor inversion.  相似文献

We estimate a rate of inner-core differential rotation from time variations of splitting functions of seven core modes of the Earth’s free oscillations excited by eight large earthquakes in a period of 1994–2003. The splitting functions and moment tensor elements are simultaneously determined for each core mode by a spectral fitting technique. The estimated moment tensor well agrees with Harvard CMT solution. The splitting functions are corrected for the effect of mantle heterogeneity using a 3D mantle velocity model. Inner-core rotation angle about the Earth’s spin axis is determined for each core mode as a function of event year by comparison of the corrected and reference splitting functions. Mean rotation rate of six core modes is estimated at 0.03±0.18° per year westward, and this value is insignificantly different from zero. Therefore, the inner core is not rotating at a significant rate relatively to the crust and mantle.  相似文献

In order to constrain the moment tensor solution of an explosive seismic event recorded on Arenal volcano, Costa Rica, we perform tests using synthetic data. These data are generated using a 3D model including the topography of the volcano and the best estimation of the velocity model available for Arenal. Solutions for (i) the moment tensor components, and (ii) the moment tensor plus single forces, are analyzed. When noisy data and mislocated sources are used in the inversion, spurious single forces are easily generated in the solution for the moment tensor components plus single forces. Forces also appear when the inversion is performed using an explosive event recorded on Arenal in 2005. Synthetic tests indicate that these forces might be spurious. However the mechanism is correctly retrieved by the inversion in both solutions. The ability to recover the explosive mechanism for the 2005 event combined with the interpretative aids from the synthetics tests will enable us to invert for the large variation in events observed on Arenal.  相似文献

Summary The excitation of the earth's normal modes is formulated as an initial value problem. The static state of the earth, stressed from its hydrostatic reference situation, is considered as the initial state. The initial state is relaxed, at the time of the earthquake, by the removal of the forces maintaining the departure from hydrostatic equilibrium. Expressions are derived for the coefficients giving the relative excitation of the individual modes for the cases where these forces are compensating volume forces or compensating tractions on the faces of a dislocation. It is demonstrated that a point slip dislocation has a body force equivalent in the form of a double couple with a deviatoric moment tensor. However, for a source with volume change no moment tensor equivalent can be found. The volume change, apart from an elastic effect which can be represented by an isotropic moment tensor, has a direct gravitational effect on the excitation. This effect is due to a balanced force field consisting of a point force at the source and a continuous distribution of volume forces throughout the earth. The latter distribution, if not taken into account, may give rise to artificial phases in the frequency spectrum of the normal modes.  相似文献

Values of the ellipticities ? of surfaces of constant density inside the earth and of Radau's parameter η have been re-calculated for several recent earth models. The effects on the calculated ? and η of changes in the assumed moment of inertia of the earth, of the assumed inner-core density, and of taking account of free earth oscillation data, are separately indicated. The results show that there is no need at present to re-calculate the ellipticity corrections to seismic travel times, though the need may arise later. For all recent earth models, η continues to be between zero and 0.6, so that Radau's approximation continues to be satisfactory.  相似文献

本文利用球对称、非自转、弹性和各向同性地球模型(SNREI)理论模拟计算了地球内核平动振荡的地震激发.以2004年12月26日苏门答腊大地震为例,讨论震源机制解(标量地震矩、走向、倾角、滑动角和深度)对内核平动振荡振幅激发的影响;基于全球21个Mw8.0级以上的大地震,分别计算10个数据资料较好的超导重力台站理论上可以接收到的内核平动振荡信号的频率域振幅.结果表明标量地震矩对内核平动振荡振幅的影响最大,走向、倾角、滑动角和深度对内核平动振荡振幅也有一定影响,但是影响相对较小;不同区域获得的由大地震引起的内核平动振荡信号的幅度存在显著差异,此结果为频率域多台站加权迭积提供了计算基础.另外,只有武汉台站接收到的2011年日本Tohoku Mw9.1地震激发的内核平动振荡的振幅值达到了地球表面高精度、高灵敏度的超导重力仪检测水平,振幅值为0.0103nm·s-2.结果说明地震激发的内核平动振荡的信号极其微弱,信号几乎淹没在背景噪声中,必须利用多台站迭积法才有可能将信号提取出来.  相似文献

选用通河地震台体应变观测数据,采用功率谱密度估计方法,获得2015年5月30日日本小笠原群岛地区8.0级大地震和2017年9月8日墨西哥沿岸近海8.2级大地震激发的_0S_4—_0S_(35)基频球型自由振荡频率,并与地球初步参考模型(PREM)的理论自由振荡频率进行对比,结果发现:前者共被检测到11个基频信号,有7个信号与理论值存在偏差,1个存在频谱分裂现象;后者共被检测到17个基频信号,有9个信号与理论值存在偏差,1个存在频谱分裂现象。  相似文献

Summary A new method is presented of computer processing of amplitude-time records. The method is based on a two-component spectral analysis, suitable for investigating a planar stationary oscillatory event. The method is applied to the study of the fine structure of short-period geomagnetic pulsations. Apart from a semi-quantitative representation of the directional distribution of the pulsation event in the plane of oscillation, the proposed method enables one to obtain quantitative information on the frequency components, representing the pulsation — the distribution of the overall energy in the spectrum of the pulsation, the ellipticity of the polarization ellipses, the orientation of the major axes of the ellipses, and the sense of rotation of the disturbance vector.  相似文献

Earthquake sources exhibiting anelastic volume changes are studied in a gravitating earth. The excitation of seismic displacement fields by such sources cannot be fully described by a moment tensor.The effect of gravity manifests itself through the action of a buoyancy force at the source, which is compensated by a continuous distribution of volume forces through the earth.An inversion scheme which does not take into account these gravitational forces may lead to a pseudo-precursive action in the source and to an erroneous source characterisation.  相似文献

综合分析了中国数字地震台网(CDSN)改造后的5个长周期地震仪台站观测的3天的VHZ、VHE和VHN波形资料,利用功率谱密度估计方法,在没有对资料进行去固体潮处理的情况下,准确获得了2004年12月26日印度洋地震激发的0S3~0S78的基频球型振荡和部分谐频球型振荡和0T3~0T67的基频环型振荡,并与地球初步参考模型(PREM)的理论自由振荡周期进行了对比,发现实测振荡周期与PREM预测的振荡周期符合的很好.频率与PREM模型略微不一致的球型或环型振荡可以解释为地球介质的横向不均匀性和各向异性所致.因此地球自由振荡信息可用于揭示地球的三维不均匀结构信息或各向异性信息,并可能对区分地幔对流模式有所帮助.  相似文献

We suggest a nonlinear elastic reduced Cosserat continuum as a possible model for geomedium and geomaterials and also for a soil or rock with heterogeneities. If a medium has a block structure, or if it contains heterogeneities that may have their proper rotational dynamics, the presence of rotational degrees of freedom may influence wave propagation and stability of the medium. In the reduced Cosserat model, translations and rotations are independent, the medium resists to the rotation of each ??particle?? relatively to the background continuum, but it does not resist to the gradient of rotation. We consider a nonlinear spherical stress state in an isotropic elastic reduced Cosserat material. We write down small deviations from this nonlinear equilibrium. They coincide in form with the equations of the linear elastic isotropic reduced Cosserat continuum. Depending on the level of the stress and on the type of elastic energy, the equilibrium can be stable or unstable. In the domain of stability, shear?Crotational wave demonstrates dispersion. There is a resonant frequency corresponding to the independent rotational oscillations. The bulk plane shear?Crotational wave has a forbidden band of frequencies. In this zone, the shear?Crotational wave localises near heterogeneities or external sources. We show that for a semilinear medium (medium with large deformations but linear dependence of stress on the strain tensor), strong compression leads to the material instability caused by shear perturbations, and strong tension for some class of parameters yields in instability caused by rotational perturbations.  相似文献

The mass redistribution in the earth as a result of an earthquake faulting changes the earth's inertia tensor, and hence its rotation. Using the complete formulae developed byChao andGross (1987) based on the normal mode theory, we calculated the earthquake-induced polar motion excitation for the largest 11,015 earthquakes that occurred during 1977.0–1993.6. The seismic excitations in this period are found to be two orders of magnitude below the detection threshold even with today's high precision earth rotation measurements. However, it was calculated that an earthquake of only one tenth the size of the great 1960 Chile event, if happened today, could be comfortably detected in polar motion observations. Furthermore, collectively these seismic excitations have a strong statistical tendency to nudge the pole towards 140°E, away from the actually observed polar drift direction. This non-random behavior, similarly found in other earthquake-induced changes in earth rotation and low-degree gravitational field byChao andGross (1987), manifests some geodynamic behavior yet to be explored.  相似文献

Shear-tensile crack is a model for an earthquake mechanism that is more constrained than the moment tensor but that can still describe a non-shear focus. As such, the shear-tensile crack model is more robust than the moment tensor model and yields more reliable estimates for the earthquake mechanism. Such an advantage verifies the credibility of the non-double-couple component found for some events of the 1997 West Bohemia-Vogtland earthquake swarm. As expected, in several cases, a significantly resolved non-double-couple component was obtained where the moment tensor approach failed. Additionally, for non-shear sources, the shear-tensile crack model offers optimization of the Poisson number within the focus, concurrently with retrieval of the mechanism. However, results obtained for the joint inversion of the 1997 swarm indicate that resolution is low. A series of synthetic experiments indicated that limited observations during 1997 were not the cause. Rather, hypothetical experiments of both very good and extremely poor network configurations similarly yielded a low resolution for the Poisson number. Applying this method to data for recent swarms is irrelevant because the small non-double-couple components detected within the inversion are spurious and, thus, the events are pure double-couple phenomena.  相似文献

Decomposition of seismic moment tensors for underground nuclear explosions   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Generally the decomposition of a seismic moment tensor is not unique. However, to favorably view the characteristics of a certain seismic source, one must decompose a seismic moment tensor into parts according to assumptions about the properties of the seismic source. Different from natural earthquakes in which the shear dislocation component plays a predominant role in the source process, and the seismic moment tensor can be separated into an isotropic component, a double couple, and a compensated linear vector dipole (CLVD), underground nuclear explosions have three major components in their source process, i.e., the explosion, the tensional spalling, and the tectonic strain release associated with the explosion. In such a situation the conventional moment tensor decomposition for earthquakes is not convenient to estimate the yield of the explosion and to characterize the tectonic strain release. In this paper, an alternative decomposition scheme is proposed to deal with the moment tensor of underground nuclear explosions, which might benefit the approach to study the tectonic strain release induced by underground nuclear detonations.  相似文献

地震土压力评价是挡土墙抗震设计的关键问题之一.以往的研究结果表明,挡墙上地震土压力的大小及分布与墙体的侧向位移或者墙后填土的侧向变形密切相关.经典的物部-冈部地震土压力公式可计算填土处于主动与被动状态的极限平衡条件下的土压力,未考虑挡墙侧向位移或填土侧向变形对土压力的影响.在研究土压力系数随应变增量比变化规律的基础上,本文指出土压力系数与挡土墙位移量之间不存在唯一性关系,发现正常固结填土的土压力系数与以应变增量比表述的填土侧向应变约束条件之间具有良好的唯一性,揭示了压剪耦合效应是土压力形成的物理本质;基于上述的唯一性关系和中间土楔等概念,提出了可考虑填土侧向变形的地震土压力实用计算方法,并通过土压力模型试验结果初步验证了该方法的合理性.  相似文献

Seismic records contain information about the effect of the source as well as the effect of wave propagation through the rock mass. The effect of wave propagation is usually not well known as only simplified models of geological structures are available. Therefore, the information about the source retrieved by inverting seismograms may include errors due to incomplete knowledge of the rock mass along the propagation path, which in turn cause a distortion in the calculated moment tensor (MT). The distortion of the MT on a local scale was observed by inverting records of a simulated rockburst conducted at the Kopanang gold mine in South Africa. A dominant isotropic component of the explosive characteristics was found from the inversion. The deviatoric components retrieved from the blast are spurious. A test of their stability indicated that they are not significant, assuming an uncertainty above 5% for velocities and 10% for attenuation within the homogeneous model available for the mine. Thus, the retrieval of the MT from records of local networks in mines using a homogeneous model of the rock mass seems to be feasible. However, the homogeneous model of the rock mass can only be applied to close stations, within a few kilometers of the source. The seismic records from distant stations were too complex to be modelled by a homogeneous rock mass. Records of six mine-induced seismic events recorded at the Kopanang gold mine were also inverted. A vertical linear dipole along the pressure (P) axis was found for three of the events, suggesting a pillar burst. The mechanism of two events contains an isotropic implosion together with a nearly vertical dip-slip, and seems to indicate a combination of a cavity collapse with a down dip-slip along a nearly vertical fault. One event corresponds to a dipole along the tensional (T) axis. However, it is vertical, thus its association with tensile faulting of the hangingwall is uncertain.  相似文献

本文在对称地震矩张量反演的基础上,进一步研究了非对称地震矩张量时间域反演的理论与方法,结果表明:非对称地震矩张量反演与对称地震矩张量反演类似,只需将对称地震矩张量反演方法略加改动,即增加3个待解参数,便可实现非对称地震矩张量反演.为了判断非对称地震矩张量反演相对于对称地震矩张量反演是否存在过度拟合,运用了AIC准则 (赤池信息准则).为了定量地描述地震矩张量之间的差异,引入了地震矩张量的矢量表示法.通过分析格林函数与地震矩张量各分量之间的关系,得出:在非对称地震矩张量反演时,若仅用垂直向地动位移数据,将无法区分Mxy与Myx这两个分量, 需要同时运用垂直向与水平向地动位移数据进行联合反演才能区分Mxy与Myx; 若采用不同的速度结构模型或不同的格林函数计算方法,则需重新评估地震矩张量各分量的分辨度问题.为检验非对称地震矩张量反演方法的可行性, 利用合成地震图进行了一系列数值试验.数值试验结果表明,在非对称地震矩张量反演中,有必要引入S波进行P波与S波联合反演以提高反演的准确性和判定断层面的能力.   相似文献
