The aim of the present paper has been to present an analysis of the light curve of two eclipsing systems RW Gem and AY Cam by Fourier analysis of the light changes in the frequency domain which was developed by Kopal (1975a, b, c, d, e; 1976).In Section 1, the subject is introduced in a general way, with the intention of laying the foundation of the light curve analysis. Section 2 contains the evaluation of the empirical values of the theoretical momentA 2m is demonstrated, with the equation of the condition given. Then the equations forA 2m in terms of the elements of the total and the annular eclipses, including partial and annular phase of transit eclipse, follow. The analysis of the light curves of the two eclipsing binaries (RW Gem and AY Cam), the results and the discussion of our solution, are outlined in Section 3.  相似文献

We present light curve solutions for the W UMa-type eclipsing binaries EP, EQ, ER, ES, and V369 Cep in the old open cluster NGC 188. Using light curve solution parameters combined with reasonable mass estimates, we determine the distance modulusV-M vof the cluster. Our aim is to examine if current uncertainties in the cluster's distance and age can be resolved. Three binaries yield distance moduli close to 10 . m 80 (±0 . m 08), two others give values around 11 . m 40(±0 . m 09). Depending on the amount of reddening, we find a weighted mean distance modulus for all five binaries between 11 . m 01 and 11 . m 05 (±0 . m 06), which lends modest support for the lower distance (1.65 kpc) and older age (10 Gyr) of the cluster.Participants in the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Florida International University, sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

We present observations and light curve analysis of the eclipsing binary R CMa in the narrow band filters v and b. Observations were made during 1993 at Biruni Observatory and the light curves have been analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney light curve interpretation program. Assuming a semi-detached configuration for R CMa, the parameters i, Ω1, L 1, T 2 and A 2 were adjusted for the best fit between the synthesized light curves and observations. Both light curves were fitted well with a lower value of bolometric albedo than what would be expected for a normal cool star with a convective envelope. The masses of the primary and secondary components and the absolute dimensions of the stars have been calculated using the derived relative dimensions from Wilson-Devinney codes and the spectroscopic observations.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to deduce relations between the integral transformsA 2m, B2m,andF 1,2 of the light curves of eclipsing binary systems. The integral transformsA 2m, B2m,andF 1,2 have been related to one another by means of finite or rapidly converging infinite summations obtained by integrations of the series expansions of trigonometric functions.  相似文献

Sixteen new eclipsing binaries have been discovered by the MOST satellite among guide stars used to point its telescope in various fields. Several previously known eclipsing binaries were also observed by MOST with unprecedented quality. Among the objects we discuss in more detail are short‐period eclipsing binaries with eccentric orbits in young open clusters: V578 Mon in NGC 2244 and HD 47934 in NGC 2264. Long nearly‐continuous photometric runs made it possible to discover three long‐period eclipsing binaries with orbits seen almost edge‐on: HD 45972 with P = 28.1 days and two systems (GSC 154 1247 and GSC 2141 526) with P > 25 days. The high precision of the satellite data led to discoveries of binaries with very shallow eclipses (e.g., HD 46180 with A = 0.016 mag, and HD 47934 with A = 0.025 mag). Ground‐based spectroscopy to support the space‐based photometry was used to refine the models of several of the systems (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The main aim of this paper will be to develop explicit form of the moments of the light curvesA 2m(r 1,r 2,i) required for the solution for the geometrical elementsr 1,2 andi of eclipsing systems exhibiting annular eclipses (Sections 2 and 3), as well as partial eclipses (Section 4).In the concluding Section 5 we shall demonstrate that — regardless of the type of eclipse and distribution of brightness on the apparent disc of the eclipsed star, or indeed of the shape of the eclipsing as well as eclipsed components — the momentsA 2m satisfy certain simple functional equations — a fact which relates them to other classes of functions previously studied in applied mathematics.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to deduce some further properties of the fundamental quantities inherent in the frequency-domain approach-such as the fractional loss of light l 0 and momentsA 2m of the light curves of eclipsing variables; and also to develop an iterative method for the solution of two key eclipse parametersa andc 0 in terms of the observed quantities. This should facilitate practical applications of the methods developed in the preceding papers of this series for the frequency-domain light curve analysis of eclipsing variables.  相似文献

A new general expression for the theoretical momentsA 2m of the light curves of eclipsing systems has been presented in the form of infinite series expansion. In this expansion, the terms have been given as the product of two different polynomials which satisfy certain three-term recursion formulae, and the coefficients diminish rapidly with increasing number of terms. Thus, the numerical values of the theoretical momentsA 2m can be generated recursively up to four significant figures for any given set of eclipse elements. This can be utilized to solve the eclipse elements in two ways: (i) with an indirect method (for the procedures see Paper XIV, Kopal and Demircan, 1978), (ii) with a direct method as minimization to the observational momentsA 2m (area fitting). The procedures given in Paper XIV for obtaining the elements of any eclipsing system consisting of spherical stars have been automated by making use of the new expression for the momentsA 2m of the light curves. The theoretical functionsf 0,f 2,f 4,f 6,g 2 andg 4 which are the functions ofa andc 0, have been used to solve the eclipse elements from the observed photometric data. The closed-form expressions for the functionsf 2,f 4 andf 6 have also been derived (Section 3) in terms of Kopal'sI-integrals.The automated methods for obtaining the eclipse elements from one minimum alone have been tested on the light curves of YZ (21) Cassiopeiae under the spherical model assumptions. The results of these applications will be given in Section 5 which follows a brief introduction to the procedure we followed.  相似文献

Interstellar and atmospheric extinctions redden the observational photometric data and they should be handled rigorously. This paper simulates the effect of reddening for the modest case of two main sequence T 1 = 6500 K and T 2 = 5500 K components of a detached eclipsing binary system. It is shown that simply subtracting a constant from measured magnitudes (the approach often used in the field of eclipsing binaries) to account for reddening should be avoided. Simplified treatment of the reddening introduces systematics that reaches ∼0.01 mag for the simulated case, but can be as high as ∼0.2 mag for, e.g., B8 V-K4 III systems. With rigorous treatment, it is possible to uniquely determine the colour excess value E(BV) from multi-colour photometric light curves of eclipsing binaries.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper has been to analyse the light changes of the close eclipsing system V78 in Centauri in the frequency domain. In two of his recent papers, Kopal (1977b, c) has developed new methods for the analysis of light curves using Hankel transforms of zero order. He succeeded in expressing the momentsA 2m of light curves in a closed form. The expansions, in terms of which the momentsA 2m can be expressed, converge in all circumstances. Their analytical structure presents no difficulty for automatic computation. The light variations of the eclipsing system V78 in Centauri have been studied by use of the above method. New geometrical elements are also given.  相似文献

We present the first long‐term Johnson UBVR observations and comprehensive photometric analysis of the W UMa‐type eclipsing binary V2612 Oph. Observations in the time interval between 2003 and 2009 enabled us to reveal the seasonal and long‐term variations of the light curve. Hence, we found that the mean brightness level of the light curve shows a variation with a period of 6.7 years. Maximum and minimum brightness levels of the light curve exhibit a variation from year to year which we attribute to a solar‐like activity. The OC variation of eclipse timings of the system shows a decreasing parabolic trend and reveals a period decrease at a rate of P = 6.27×10‐7 day yr‐1 with an additional low‐amplitude sinusoidal variation that has a similar period as the long‐term brightness variations. Our light curve analysis shows that the system is a W‐subtype W UMa eclipsing binary. We calculated masses and radii of the primary and secondary components as M1 = 1.28 M, M2 = 0.37 M and R1 = 1.31 R, R2 = 0.75 R, respectively. The derived absolute photometric parameters allow us to calculate a distance of 140 pc, which confirms that the system is a foreground star in the sky field of the Galactic open cluster NGC 6633. This paper presents a new CCD Bessell VRcIc light curves and photometric analysis of the newly discovered RS CVn type eclipsing binary star V1034 Her. The light curves were obtained at the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Observatory in 2006. Variations of the orbital period of the system were firstly studied. The (O − C) diagram with a low range of observing time of about 20 years shows an upward parabola, which indicates a secular increase in the orbital period of the system. The light curves are generally those of detached eclipsing binaries; however, there are large asymmetries between maxima. The VRcIc light curves were analysed with two different fitting procedures: Wilson–Devinney method supplemented with a Monte Carlo type algorithm and Information Limit Optimization Technique (ILOT). Our general results find V1034 Her. as a well detached system, in which the components are filling 65% of their Roche lobes. Light curve asymmetries of the system are explained in terms of large dark starspots on the primary component. The primary star shows a long-lived spot distribution with active longitudes in the same hemisphere.  相似文献

The eclipsing binary NN Vir is a short period system showing an EW‐type light curve. Photometric observations of NN Vir were done by Gomez‐Ferrellad & Garcia‐Melendo (1997) at Esteve Duran Observatory. We used photometric data of NN Vir for light curve analysis. The available spectroscopic data of NN Vir is new and we also used the first radial velocity data of this system obtained by Rusinski & Lu (1999) for analysis. The radial velocity and light curves analysis was made with the latest version ofWilson program(1998) and the geometric and physical elements of the system are derived. By searching the simultaneous solutions of the system, we have determined the masses and radii of the components : 1.89(M) and 1.65(R) for the primary component; 0.93(M) and 1.23(R) for the secondary component. We estimated effective temperatures of 7030(K) for the primary and 6977(K) for the secondary component. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

A new method has been developed for the evaluation of the light momentsA 2m, required for a Fourier analysis of the light curves of eclipsing variables, in terms of the elements of the eclipsea method simpler and more straightforward than that previously developed in so far as it dispenses with the auxiliary coefficientsa n (l) andb n (l) used before at the intermediary stage. Our present method is applicable to an analysis of the eclipses of spherical stars of any type, arbitrarily darkened at the limb; and its results agree with those previously established in Papers III and IV of this series in less explicit form.  相似文献

The methods of analysis of the light changes of eclipsing variables in the frequency domain, developed in our previous papers (Kopal, 1975b, c) for total or annular eclipses of arbitrarily limbdarkened stars, have now been extended to the case of partial eclipses of occultation as well as transit type. In Section 2 which follows brief introductory remarks the even Fourier sine coefficients are formulated — in the guise of the momentsA 2m of the light curve — in terms of the elements of the eclipse; and their use for a solution for the elements is detailed in Section 3. A brief appendix containing certain auxiliary tables to facilitate this task concludes the paper. An extension of the same method to an analysis of the light changes exhibited by close eclipsing systems — in which the photometric proximity effects arising from mutual distortion can no longer be ignored — will be given in the subsequent paper of this series.  相似文献

A significant number of close binaries are known to be members of physically bound triple or multiple star systems. The OC analysis technique which is based on the minima times of an eclipsing binary can reveal the light-time effect due to the presence of gravitationally bound and generally unseen close component(s) in the system. In this study we present shortly the OC analysis results based on the light-time effect possibilities for two of the eclipsing binaries observationally followed by our group; TZ Boo and CF Tau.  相似文献

Following a brief history of measurement of eclipsing binary mass ratios from light curves, we show that photometric mass ratios for overcontact and semi-detached binaries are reliable because the relative stellar radii, R/a, are accurately measured and not, as commonly claimed, because of information in the light variation outside eclipse. We explore the accuracy of photometric mass ratios by solving synthetic data of typical precisions for a semi-detached and an overcontact binary for orbital inclinations from 89 down into the partial eclipse range.  相似文献

New BVR light curves and a photometric analysis of the eclipsing binary star V1430 Aql are presented. The light curves were obtained at the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Observatory in 2004. The light curves are generally those of detached eclipsing binaries, but there are large asymmetries between maxima. New BVR light curves were analysed with an ILOT procedure. Light curve asymmetries of the system were explained in terms of large dark starspots on the primary component. The primary star shows a long‐lived and quasi‐poloidal spot distribution with active longitudes in opposite hemispheres. Absolute parameters of the system were derived. We also discuss the evolution of the system: the components are likely to be pre‐main sequence stars, but a post‐main sequence stage cannot be ruled out. More observations are needed to decide this point. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

An integral transform called the momentsA 2m of the light curves has been introduced by Kopal (1975) and utilized in the subsequent papers for an analysis of the light curves of eclipsing variables. The aim of the present paper is to generalize this integral transform by two distinct ways: (i) by introducing an exponential factor, and (ii) a Jacobi polynomial as multiplicative factor into the integrand of the transformA 2m. Observational values of these general transforms are likewise obtainable. They have been expressed in terms of eclipse elementsr 1,2,i andL 1. These expressions can be used to solve the eclipse elements in terms of observed quantities. Free parameters in the expressions increase the flexibility in applications and may be utilized to improve the determinacy of the elements.  相似文献
