People living in the urban area and the surrounding suburban area have disparities in exposure and health risks due to different levels of ambient air pollutants. The main objective of this study is to investigate the concentrations, seasonal variations, and related health risks of ambient air pollutants (PM10, NO2, and SO2) in urban and suburban areas of Ningbo, China. The results showed that the average PM10, NO2, and SO2 concentrations in the urban area were 85.2, 49.3, and 37.4 μg/m3, which were 1.13, 1.25, and 1.41 times the values of the suburban area during the period of March 2009 to February 2010. For the potential health risk analysis, the residents have been divided into four age categories namely, infants, children (1 year), children (8–10 years), and adults. The analysis took into account age-specific breathing rates, body weights for different age categories. The results showed that the potential health risks to respiratory disease for all age categories living in urban area were higher than those in suburban area.  相似文献

Severe stone deterioration is evident at the Cologne cathedral. In particular, the “Drachenfels” trachyte, which was the building material of the medieval construction period, shows significant structural deterioration as well as massive formation of gypsum crusts. The present article investigates crust formation on limestone, sandstone, and volcanic rock from the Cologne cathedral as well as from the Xanten and Altenberg cathedrals. These three buildings, showing varying degrees of deterioration, are located in different areas and exposed to varying industrial, urban, and rural pollution. Thin laminar and black framboidal crusts form on calcareous as well as silicate stone. The lack of a significant intrinsic calcium and sulfur source for the formation of the gypsum crusts on the Drachenfels trachyte indicates major extrinsic environmental impact: a sufficient offer of SO x from pollutant fluxes as well as external calcium sources (e.g., pollution, mortars, neighboring calcite stones). Chemical analyses reveal strong gypsum enrichment within the crusts as well as higher concentrations of lead and other pollutants (arsenic, antimony, bismuth, tin, etc.), which generally can be linked to traffic and industry. The formation of weathering crusts in an industrial environment is clearly distinguishable from that in rural areas. Scanning electron microscopy observations confirm that the total amount of pollution is less at the Altenberg cathedral than at the Cologne and Xanten cathedrals. XRF analyses show that the formation of gypsum occurs in lower amounts at Altenberg. This correlates well with the measured SO2 content and the intensity of the decay at the different locations. Furthermore, the different types of crusts, e.g., framboidal and laminar, can be differentiated and assigned to the different locations. The black weathering crusts on the silicate Drachenfels trachyte contribute to the degradation of the historic building material. They enhance mechanical moisture-related deterioration processes and the decay by chemical corrosion of rock-forming minerals. Although SO2 concentrations in air have shown a strong decrease over the past 30 years, degradation in connection with weathering crusts is still observed. This indicates that not only contemporary or recent emissions, but also past pollutant concentrations have to be considered.  相似文献

ISC-AERMOD dispersion model was used to predict air dispersion plumes from an diesel power plant complex. Emissions of NO2and SO2from stacks (5 numbers) and a waste oil incinerator were studied to evaluate the pollutant dispersion patterns and the risk of nearby population. Emission source strengths from the individual point sources were also evaluated to determine the sources of significant attribution. Results demonstrated the dispersions of pollutants were influenced by the dominant easterly wind direction with the cumulative maximum ground level concentrations of 589.86 μg/m3 (1 h TWA NO2) and 479.26 μg/m3 (1 h TWA SO2). Model performance evaluation by comparing the predicted concentrations with observed values at ten locations for the individual air pollutants using rigorous statistical procedures were found to be in good agreement. Among all the emission sources within the facility complex, SESB-Power (diesel power plant) had been singled out as a significant source of emission that contributed >85% of the total pollutants emitted.  相似文献

To characterize a runoff pattern of non-point pollutants in relation with different land uses in a watershed, a monitoring activity and field measurements were carried out and data points were recorded during the rainfall events for 2 years. The study area includes industrial, urban, and rural sectors, which can represent a model case for the runoff study. Each sector was monitored with methodology and parameters including partial event mean concentration, first flush effect, mass first flush ratios, and correlation analysis. The Banwol Industrial Outfall No. 4 (4TG), an industrial area, showed a strong first flush effect, indicating that pollutants such as suspended solids, chemical oxygen demand, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus, were discharged at the early stage of a storm. An MFF30 analysis of the runoff revealed a mean pollutant load was over 50 %. In the Ansan Stream, an urban area, a strong first flush effect did not appear; however, the concentrations of pollutants reached a peak some time later during a storm event. Then, the concentrations of pollutants quickly reduced. On the other hand, Jangjunbo and Munsan Stream, rural areas, did not exhibit the first flush effects, and when considering the value of MFF30, 30 % or fewer pollutants on average were discharged at the initial stage of a storm. This means most of pollutants were streamed out at the later time of a storm event. The monitoring results found that the runoff characteristics of non-point pollutants in industrial, urban, and rural areas were distinctly different and site-specific. Therefore, each watershed management plan should be prepared to meet its own characteristics. Also, this kind of data can be an important base in designing and sizing a regional wastewater treatment facility to treat pollutants from a contaminated watershed.  相似文献

In this study, several multivariate methods were used for forecasting hourly PM10 concentrations at four locations based on SO2 and meteorological data from the previous period. According to the results, boosted decision trees and multi-layer perceptrons yielded the best predictions. The forecasting performances were similar for all examined locations, despite the additional PM10 spatio-temporal analysis showed that the sites were affected by different emission sources, topographic and microclimatic conditions. The best prediction of PM10 concentrations was obtained for industrial sites, probably due to the simplicity and regularity of dominant pollutant emissions on a daily basis. Conversely, somewhat weaker forecast accuracy was achieved at urban canyon avenue, which can be attributed to the specific urban morphology and most diverse emission sources. In conclusion to this, the integration of advanced multivariate methods in air quality forecasting systems could enhance accuracy and provide the basis for efficient decision-making in environmental regulatory management.  相似文献

 A few simple mass balance equations were developed to simultaneously estimate how much the pollutants from acid mine drainage (AMD) in stream water are diluted and removed during their migration. The application of the equations requires knowledge of the variations in the concentrations of the dissolved pollutants and the stoichiometry of the precipitation reaction of the pollutants when none of the pollutant shows a conservative behavior along the stream path. The calculation should be restricted to the pollutants showing much higher concentrations in the polluted main stream water than in the combining or diluting water of the same target area. The mass balance equations were applied to estimate the dilution factor and precipitation fractions of pollutants in Imgok Creek such as Fe, SO4 and Al from the AMD of Yeongdong mine. The results show that the estimation, especially for SO4 and Al, significantly depends on the kinds of the precipitates. When FeOHSO4 and AlOHSO4 are assumed to precipitate, the maximum removal fractions of SO4 and Al by precipitation are respectively 34% and 46% of the original input, which is much higher than the values estimated when SO4 is considered to be perfectly conservative. It indicates that the stoichiometry of precipitation reaction is very important in the interpretation of the pollutant dilution and migration and assessment of environmental impacts of AMD. The applicability of the mass balance equations may still need to be verified. However, examining the calculated dilution factor and precipitation fractions with the equations can provide invaluable information on not only the behavior but also unexpected input of the pollutants in the stream water polluted by AMD and other point sources. Black carbon (BC) in soils plays a key role of carrying hydrophobic pollutants like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). However, little is known about the spatial distribution, sources of BC and its relationship with PAHs in urban soils. We studied BC, total organic carbon (TOC) and PAHs concurrently in 77 soils collected from downtown area, suburban and rural area and industrial area of Shanghai, China. BC was determined by both chemical oxidation (dichromate oxidation, BCCr) and chemo-thermal oxidation (CTO-375, BCCTO). BC sources were identified qualitatively by BC/TOC concentration ratios and BC-cogenerated high molecular weight (HMW) PAH isomer ratios and quantitatively by principal component analysis followed by multiple linear regression (PCA-MLR). Results showed that BCCr concentration (4.65 g/kg on average) was significantly higher than BCCTO (1.91 g/kg on average) in Shanghai soils. BCCr concentrations in industrial area were significantly higher than those in other two. Stronger correlation was found between PAHs and TOC, BCCr than that between PAHs and BCCTO, which indicates the possibility of PAHs being carried by charcoal and other organic matters thus negating its exclusive dependence on soot. Charcoal was therefore suggested to be taken into account in studies of BC and its sorption of PAHs. BC/TOC ratios showed a mixed source of biomass burning and fossil fuel combustion. PCA scores of BC-cogenerated HMW PAHs isomer ratios in potential sources and soil samples clearly demonstrated that sources of BC in urban soils may fall into two categories: coal and biomass combustion, and traffic (oil combustion and tire wear). PCA-MLR of HMW PAHs concentrations in soil samples indicated that coal and oil combustion had the largest contribution to BC in urban soils while tire wear and biomass combustion were important in downtown and rural area, respectively, which indicated they were main sources of HMW PAHs and presumably of BC.  相似文献

Pollution from urban centers and fossil fuel combustion can decrease forest growth and interfere with physiological processes. To evaluate whether tree growth and the carbon isotope ratio (δ13C) and nitrogen isotope ratio (δ15N) in tree rings can serve as proxies for air pollution, this study compared these indices for poplar (Populus cathayana) growing at urban and suburban locations in Lanzhou, in northwestern China. Basal area increment values were much lower at the urban site than in the suburbs from 1985 to 2009, were negatively correlated with NO2 (r = ?0.56, p < 0.01) and SO2 (r = ?0.52, p < 0.05) emissions from 1990 to 2009, and increased abruptly after the Lanzhou urban steel factory closed. Urban tree-ring δ13C values were not significantly correlated with NO2 and SO2 concentrations, and did not differ significantly between the two sites, indicating that other environmental effects (such as precipitation) masked the pollution effects. Tree-ring δ15N values in the urban samples were much higher than the suburban values. Such differences may be attributable to uptake of 15N-enriched compounds caused by a higher urban N deposition rate. Tree growth is a promising tool for detecting ecophysiological responses of trees to both diffuse and point-source air pollution, but δ13C and δ15N in poplar were not sensitive to point-source air pollution in a heavily polluted environment.  相似文献

利用低温预浓缩-GC/MSD研究了广州市大气中痕量的一氯二氟甲烷(HCFC-22),并且将其变化特征与SO2、NO2和可吸入颗粒物(PM10)等一般空气污染物进行了比较.结果表明,广州市大气中HCFC-22的年平均浓度值是一些全球本底站观测值的3倍左右,表明广州存在较强的HCFC-22排放源,可能与HCFC-22作为制冷剂在城区较大量使用有关.广州市HCFC-22呈现出夏秋季高、冬春季低的特征,这主要与HCFC-22排放的季节性差异有关.而广州市大气一般空气污染物SO2、NOx、PM10和CO的浓度水平则与HCFC-22相反,呈现夏秋季低、冬春季高的特征,主要受扩散条件与季风影响.HCFC-22日变化幅度在夏季远大于冬季,变化规律整体与SO2、NOx和PM10大致相似,夏季呈双峰特征,冬季则呈单峰特征,但与常规污染物不同的是,夏季HCFC-22在17:00~20:00家用空调使用高峰期呈现异常高值.  相似文献

Batch experiments were conducted to comparatively evaluate the inhibition effects and mechanisms of a low-concentration (1%) proline solution cover on the release of pollutants from high-sulfur coal gangue. High-sulfur coal gangue was continuously immersed in a proline solution and in deionized water (as a control treatment) for 540 days. The results showed that the coal gangue in the control treatment was oxidized and generated leachate with poor water qualities, i.e., the leachate exhibited lower pH values, higher redox potential values, higher pollutant concentrations (SO42?, Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn), and high levels of acidophilic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. However, compared to the control treatment, the addition of the proline solution (1%) significantly improved the water quality of the leachate by significantly reducing the Eh values, the pollutant concentrations (SO42?, Fe2+, Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn), and the activity of acidophilic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria and by significantly increasing the pH value to neutral. The proline treatment significantly inhibited the oxidation of coal gangue and the release of pollutants, mainly by inhibiting the activity of acidophilic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria and by altering the heavy metal fractions and the mineralogical characteristics. Therefore, in engineering practice, workers should consider using an environmental friendly aqueous proline solution cover to achieve the in-situ control of pollutant releases from coal gangue dumps.  相似文献

Air quality monitoring was performed at the measuring sites in the urban-industrial and suburban zone during the period 2005–2007 in Bor (Serbia). Arsenic, lead, cadmium, copper and sulphur dioxide are predominantly of industrial origin as a result of copper production in the study area. The smelter, which is a part of the Mining-Metallurgical Complex Bor, is the major pollution source. As and SO2 are the pollutants which pose the biggest threat for the inhabitants of the Bor area, since the measured concentrations exceed the proposed limit values. The obtained concentrations showed that the endangered areas are in close vicinity of the smelter, as well as in the directions of the prevailing winds. By grouping these pollutants into separate clusters, the results of cluster analysis confirmed high loads of As and SO2 in the air. The results of principal component analysis showed that copper production has major influence on air pollution.  相似文献

Mercury concentrations in “A-zone” soil from seventeen urban, suburban, and rural town locations in the area of Dayton, Ohio range from 0.24 to 1.50 ppm. A positive correlation is indicated between the mercury concentrations and the amount of fallout of settleable particulate matter from the air at these sites. Airborne pollution may be an important source of the element in Dayton area soils.  相似文献

 Hindustan Polymers Limited was established in the Venkatapuram area in the northwestern part of Visakhapatnam urban agglomeration. Untreated industrial effluent from the plant is discharged with total dissolved solids concentrations reaching up to 6500 mg/l. The groundwater pollution was identified as early as 1981 and a hydrogeologic and water-quality database is available from 1981. The groundwater quality in the plant environs is found to be in the range of 3500–4500 mg/l. Major chemical constituents of industrial-waste waters consist of Na, Cl, and SO4. Some characteristic parameters of the aquifer were estimated. The available hydrogeologic and hydrologic data was analyzed to conceptualize the groundwater regime. A mathematical groundwater flow model was constructed to compute the hydraulic head at the center of finite-difference grid. The computed head distribution and effective porosity of the formations were used to calculate the groundwater flow velocity. The computed velocity field was ultimately used to prognose the pollutant migration in groundwater accounting for the advection and dispersion processes in the mass transport model and for determining the time-dependent pathlines of pollutant. This study quantifies dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), soluble reactive phosphorous (SRP), and microbial pollutant inputs to a tropical embayment, Hanalei Bay, Kaua'i, Hawai'i from rural watersheds during two field excursions during non-storm conditions. We employ land cover analysis and a suite of nucleic acid fecal source tracking markers (host-specific Bacteroidales and human enterovirus) to identify sources of pollutants to the bay. The highest concentrations of DIN and SRP are in streams draining watersheds with large areas of cultivated land, suggesting fertilizer is a source of these nutrients to the streams and coastal waters. Pollutant areal loading correlates with the fractions of urban and cultivated land cover. Microbial source tracking indicates the presence of human, pig, and ruminant feces in the streams. This work provides preliminary evidence that human development affects loading of DIN, SRP, and microbial pollutants to tropical coastal waters; further study is needed to confirm this. 选取贵阳市10个空气质量监测站发布的PM2.5、PM10、SO2、NO2、CO和O3实时浓度数据,通过时间序列分析法和插值法研究贵阳市大气污染物的时空变化和复合污染特征。结果表明:(1)贵阳市2014-2018年主要污染物PM2.5和PM10的年平均浓度逐渐下降,光化学污染物O3年平均浓度有所增加,空气质量逐渐转好,环境治理取得明显效果;(2)2018-2019自然年PM2.5、PM10、NO2和O3在春季污染最严重,SO2和CO在冬季污染最严重,反映出污染源、阶段性燃料燃烧和二次离子生成等因素对不同污染物的影响不同;(3)PM2.5和PM10日变化特征为“午峰晚峰”型,峰值发生的时间因季节而异,主要由不同季节人类作息的起止时间不同所致,O3日变化为单峰型,夜间O3浓度较低,从早晨8:00点开始随着太阳辐射的增大和温度的升高,在15:00-16:00点左右达到峰值;(4)PM2.5的空间分布呈现出部分郊区和工业区较高,市中心居民区较低的特征,指示城市建设向郊区推进。O3浓度呈现出市区低、郊区高的空间分布特征,反映郊区植被覆盖好,释放的天然源VOCs促进了O3生成;(5)主要污染物O3与颗粒物PM2.5和PM10在春季造成的复合污染最为严重,在夏季O3与PM10造成一定程度的复合污染,在秋冬季O3浓度最低,O3与颗粒物不产生复合污染;一天之内同一时刻O3与颗粒物不会产生叠加从而造成复合污染。   相似文献

The 19th Common Wealth Games was organized at Delhi, India, during October 3 to 14, 2010, where more than 8,000 athletes from 71 Commonwealth Nations have participated. In order to give them better environment information for proper preparedness, mass concentrations of particulate matters below 10 microns (PM10) and 2.5 microns (PM2.5), black carbon (BC) particles and gaseous pollutants such as carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxide (NO) were monitored and displayed online for ten different locations around Delhi, including inside and outside the stadiums. This extensive information system for air quality has been set up for the period from September 24 to October 21, 2010, and data have been archived at 5-min interval for further research. During the study period, average concentration of PM10 and PM2.5 was observed to be 229.7 ± 85.5 and 112.1 ± 56.0 μg m?3, respectively, which is far in excess of the corresponding annual averages, stipulated by the national ambient air quality standards. Significant large and positive correlation (r = 0.93) between PM10 and PM2.5 implies that variations in PM10 mass are governed by the variations in PM2.5 mass. The mass concentrations of PM2.5 inside the stadium were found to be ~18 % lower than those outside; however, no large variations were observed in PM10. Mean concentrations of BC, CO and NO for the observation period were 10.9 μg m?3 (Min, 02 μg m?3; Max, 31 μg m?3), 1.83 ± 0.89 ppm (Min, 0.48 ppm; Max, 4.55 ppm) and 37.82 ppb (Min, 2.4 ppb; Max, 206.05 ppb), respectively. BC showed positive correlation (r = 0.73) with CO suggests unified source for both of them, mainly from combustion emissions. All the measured parameters, however, show a significant diurnal variation with enhanced peaks in the morning and late night hours and lower values during daytime.  相似文献

A novel approach of studying dust, black crust and host limestones by using various techniques is presented in this paper. Samples were collected from limestone monuments located in rural, urban and industrial areas in Germany and Hungary. The paper focuses on differences in the mineralogical composition, major and trace element distribution of materials and their total polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) concentration having different exposure to air pollutants. High concentration of gypsum was found in laminar and dendritic black crusts and even in the dust of both urban and rural areas, despite the low concentration of SO2 in rural atmospheric environments. The black crusts show a typical microfabric with distinct layers of various gypsum–calcite mineral associations, silt-sized mineral fragments and black particle content. In dust, newly formed gypsum crystals were found along with mineral fragments, and siliceous and, less frequently, carbonaceous fly ash particles. High concentration of lead was found both in the samples of urban and rural areas of Germany and Hungary. Lead mostly accumulates in dust and also in the black crust. Highest lead concentrations were found not on the surface of the black crust, but close to the crust/limestone boundary according to LA-ICPMS analyses. It indicates that despite the ban of leaded petrol, lead is still present in the dust and the in the soiled zones of the built environment. Similarly to lead, no significant difference in the total PAH content of dust and crust samples were found in the two countries. Dusts are equally enriched in PAH in both countries, whereas black crusts contain fewer amounts. Most of the aqueous extracts of the samples were saturated with respect to sulphate, which also indicate the presence of gypsum, whilst in some German samples unsaturated conditions were detected. In summary, by using a combination of these analytical techniques, it was possible to distinguish rural and urban samples and to outline the role of dust in bringing pollutants to the stone surface. It is suggested that the analysed dust and stone samples indicate not only present, but also the past, pollution fluxes and as a consequence stones similar to sediments or surface waters can be used as environment indicators.  相似文献

Open burning of scrap (bicycle, motorcycle, car and truck) tyres (OBST) was simulated in the laboratory to investigate their impact on the ambient air quality. The tyre samples were burnt in combustion chamber, and gaseous pollutants (CO, NO2 and SO2) emitted were quantified, while concentrations and elemental compositions of emitted total suspended particulates (TSP) were determined. Emission level of SO2 from all the tyre samples exceeded USEPA allowable (156.74 µg/m3) limit. CO due to car and truck tyres exceeded USEPA allowable (10,285.71 µg/m3) limit, while NO2 concentration was below the allowable limit (56.33 µg/m3) only in bicycle tyre. 25% of all the gaseous pollutants emitted are within the Air Quality Index range of 101–150. TSP concentrations from all the tyre samples were higher than the Federal Ministry of Environment standard (250 µg/m3) for ambient TSP. There is strong correlation (R) of 0.885, 0.949 and 0.802 among all the gaseous (CO/NO2, CO/SO2 and NO2/SO2) pollutants, respectively, while the highest (0.999) and lowest (0.079) positive correlations were observed between Mg and Mn as well as Cd and Zn, respectively. The results of this study show that OBST emits hazardous pollutants, which pose serious threat to human health and environment.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the estimation of the removal efficiency of PM10 by large-scale precipitation under no-wind conditions in a background (rural) and urban areas. The changes in PM10 concentrations before, during and after the presence of rainfall were studied from 2007 to 2013. The study was conducted in two different locations identified with regard to air quality. DAVIS weather stations were used to determine the meteorological conditions. The concentration of PM10 was calculated with the use of the gravimetric reference method. Two hundred and ninety-nine measurement series were carried out. A linear relationship was found between the intensity and duration of rainfall and the value of the removal coefficient (ΔC). It was proved that except light rains, for the near-to-ground troposphere, the effectiveness of the removal of PM10C) did not assume different values at various locations for rainfall with the same intensity and duration. It was found that a temporary interaction of the effect of the purification by wet deposition was being minimised in areas characterised by low air quality. It was confirmed that intense rains resulted in the maintenance of higher values of air quality.  相似文献

The sediments of Lake Anna, Virginia, act as a major sink for incoming acid mine drainage (AMD) pollutants (Fe, SO42−, H+) due to bacterial sulfate reduction (SR). Acid-volatile sulfide (AVS), elemental S, and pyrite concentrations in the sediments of the polluted arm of the lake are significantly greater than those in unpolluted sections of the lake. Measurements of SR using 35SSO42− showed that AVS and S0 are the major short-term (48 h) products of SR in these sediments. Inorganic forms of S(AVS, S0, and FeS2) made up from 60 to 100% of the total sediment S concentration. Pyrite concentrations in the sediment were high but decreased exponentially with distance from the AMD source, suggesting that the pyrite was deposited as stream detritus from the abandoned mines. Iron monosulfide and elemental S concentrations were highest at a station 1 km away from the AMD inflow, indicating formation in situ. There was no evidence for the formation of organic S species. The results suggest that in Fe- and S-rich locations such as those contaminated with acid mine drainage, the distribution of end products of SR may vary substantially from those reported for more moderate environments.  相似文献
