Some properties of mass transfer within a semi-detached binary system are discussed based on an example of VV Vir.The observations and analysis of VV Vir show that it is a semi-detached binary system with the less massive cooler component filling its Roche lobe,which is also called an Algol-type binary system.Based on the parameters of this semi-detached binary,a theoretical study on the mass flow is carried out,including the trajectory of the mass flow,the position,radius and temperature of the impact spot caused by the mass flow,the inconsistent form of the mass flow and the possibly huge rate of energy transfer carried by the mass flow.Humps and distortions in light curves of VV Vir are deemed to be weak evidence for the theoretical results.  相似文献

A total 91 binary systems of systemic mass less than 6.5M have been studied. It is found that binary systems obey the relation: logH=C–1.8 logM whereC is constant having values –1.18, –2.12 and –2.27 respectively for detached, semi-detached and contact binary systems. It is inferred that during evolution, the systemic orbital angular momentum decreases.  相似文献

Following a brief history of measurement of eclipsing binary mass ratios from light curves, we show that photometric mass ratios for overcontact and semi-detached binaries are reliable because the relative stellar radii, R/a, are accurately measured and not, as commonly claimed, because of information in the light variation outside eclipse. We explore the accuracy of photometric mass ratios by solving synthetic data of typical precisions for a semi-detached and an overcontact binary for orbital inclinations from 89 down into the partial eclipse range.  相似文献

计算了总质量为3.9M,具有不同初始质比和两子星间距的一组模型在总质量、总角动量守恒假设下的Case A演化,以探求Case A演化与几乎相接双星(NCS)可能的联系.结果表明确实存在经过Case A质量交流演化为NCS系统的途径。并且这样形成的NCS系统其随后的演化有两种前景:一种随即演化为相接系统;另一种则经由慢速质量交流成为较稳定的半接或不接系统.但能够演化为NCS状态的初始模型范围极为狭窄,本文大致确定了它们的初始质比、子星间距等参量范围. 结合模型计算结果,对已知29个NCS系统作了统计研究,结果表明NCS系统与相接双星在演化上有很密切的联系.  相似文献

Recent data on semi-detached systems are compared with general results of close binary computations to determine the origin of Algol-type systems (classical case A and case B results are considered). Both the conservative and the non-conservative mode of mass exchange are investigated. It is found that the assumption of considerable mass loss from the system gives satisfying agreement with the observations. It is also concluded that the calculation of an extensive homogeneous network of case A computations is needed.This research is supported by the National Foundation of Collective Fundamental Research of Belgium (FKFO) under No. 2.9009.79.  相似文献

The method of Fourier analysis of the light changes in the frequency-domain has been studied and discussed for 92 light curves of different types of eclipsing binary systems.Geometrical and physical elements of the systems under analysis have been listed and discussed, accordingly the advantages and disadvantages of the method is presented.The results show that the method is suitable for analysis of detached and most of the semi-detached systems, while for contact binaries and -Lyrae-type stars it has some difficulties. The light curve synthesis method is recommended.  相似文献

In this study we present the new R and I light curve solutions for the eclipsing binary systems RW CrB and VZ Leo, which for VZ Leo is the first one in the literature. Our new observations have been analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney code from which new geometric and photometric elements are derived. The geometry of both stars is that of a semi-detached binary system where the secondary component fills its Roche lobe while the primary component is well inside. In the case of RW CrB, asymmetry in the light curve was explained by a spot model. The orbital period changes of both systems were studied and the results indicated a period decrease which can be explained by angular momentum loss. We also investigated the possibility of pulsations of the primary components since these systems are mentioned as candidates of δ Sct type pulsation. However, a time-series analysis of the residual curves in the filter I does not indicate any evidence of periodic light variation for both systems. Finally, we compared the results obtained for both binary stars to those of similar systems.  相似文献

A computation simulation of the motion of equilibrium particles in semi-detached binary systems is presented. We find that an accretion disk can be formed around the primary due to viscosity between moving particles. The calculated results are obtained for various factors and mass ratios. The results show that a part of the martter transferred from the secondary is accreted by the primary and the equilibrium mass transfer of moving particle depends on viscous factors and mass ratios.A part of the work has been performed during author's visit the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, N.J.  相似文献

Two-colour photoelectric observations of the eclipsing binary AT Pegasi have been carried out at the Ege University Observatory. The light curves were analyzed with the methods of Wood and Wilson-Devinney. It is found that the period of the system is decreasing. The system was found to be an Algol type semi-detached binary. A model for contact binary systems is presented, which incorporates the following special features: a) The energy exchange between the components is based on the understand-ing that the energy exchange is due to the release of potential, kinetic and thermal energies of the exchanged mass. b) A special form of mass and angular momentum loss occurring in contact binaries is losses via the outer Lagrangian point. c) The effects of spin, orbital rota-tion and tidal action on the stellar structure as well as the effect of meridian circulation on the mixing of the chemical elements are considered. d) The model is valid not only for low-mass contact binaries but also for high-mass contact binaries. For illustration, we used the model to trace the evolution of a massive binary system consisting of one 12M and one 5M star. The result shows that the start and end of the contact stage fall within the semi-detached phase during which the primary continually transfers mass to the secondary. The time span of the contact stage is short and the mass transfer rate is very large. Therefore, the contact stage can be regarded as a special part of the semi-detached phase with a large mass transfer rate. Both mass loss through the outer Lagrangian point and oscillation between contact and semi-contact states can occur during the contact phase, and the effective temperatures of the primary and the secondary are almost equal.  相似文献

Four color light curves of the EW type eclipsing binary V441 Lac were presented and analyzed by the W–D code. It is found that V441 Lac is an extremely low mass ratio (q = 0.093±0.001) semi-detached binary with the less massive secondary component filling the inner Roche lobe. Two dark spots on the primary component were introduced to explain the asymmetric light curves. By analyzing all times of light minimum, we determined that the orbital period of V441 Lac is continuously increasing at a rate of dP/dt = 5.874(±0.007) × 10?7 d yr?1. The semi-detached Algol type configuration of V441 Lac is possibly formed by a contact configuration destroyed shallow contact binary due to mass transfer from the less massive component to the more massive one predicted by the thermal relaxation oscillation theory.  相似文献

The dependence of mass ratio of eclipsing binary systems on period has been studied. It has been found that semi-detached systems obey the relationm 2/m 1=0.64–0.079P orm 2/m 1=0.29–0.028P depending upon whether the mass ratio is >0.3 or <0.3. The mass ratio of deteched systems generally appears to be independent of the period.  相似文献

SuperWASPJ222302.02+195031.8 is an eclipsing binary with an orbital period about 0.22517657 days that is close to the short-period limit of contact binaries. Multi-color photometric light curves of the short-period binary in B, V, Rc and Ic bands are presented and analyzed by using the Wilson–Devinney (W–D) method. It is discovered that the system is a semi-detached binary where the secondary component is already filling the critical Roche lobe, while the primary is filling just 77.1% of its Roche lobe. The temperature of the primary is about 4300 K, and the temperature difference between the two components is about 500 K. The asymmetries in the light curves are explained by the coverage of stellar dark spots on the less massive component via magnetic activity. An analysis of all available eclipse times suggests that there are no any changes in the O-C diagram. This may indicate that there are no mass transfers between the two components. The semi-detached configuration with the dark spot on the surface of the lobe-filling secondary and no variations in the orbital period make the binary an interesting target for further investigations.  相似文献

A new CCD (V) light curve is presented for'the semi-detached binary system FU Ara. The light curve, obtained in 2007, is the first one since the last 50 years. With our data we were able to determine six new times of minimum light and refined the period of the system to 0.8645049 days. A Wilson-Devinney analysis leads to a solution of a semi-detached configuration, composed of a main-sequence primary component of spectral type F5, fractionally smaller than its Roche lobe, and an evolved secondary component of spectral type K I which fills its Roche lobe, and which is overluminous and oversized as compared with the main-sequence. The two components of FU Ara differ considerably in effective temperature. It is classified as an FO Virginis type of near-contact binary system. Assuming a reasonable value for the mass of the primary component, an estimate of the absolute elements of FU Ara has been made, on the assumption that the primary has a mass corresponding to its spectral type according to Svechnikov & Taidakova.  相似文献
