In the present paper, H-evolutive curves of chromospheric events are compared with flux evolutive curves of X-ray events observed at the same time in different spectral regions. A correspondence between the emissions E(I H/I chr)'s at higher and higher H-intensity levels, and the X-ray fluxes F()'s in harder and harder -ranges is shown. Further, the present observations seem to indicate the existence of a single triggering mechanism during the flash-phase of a flare. It is also shown that these results may be in agreement with Brown's model for chromospheric flares.  相似文献

We have observed the solar Caii H and K lines to obtain well-calibrated ratios of their core residual intensities. From three independent calibrations, one using a standard lamp, we conclude that the residual intensity ratio r(K3)/r(H3) is 1.048 ± 0.03 in the quiet chromosphere and 1.20 ± 0.03 in a plage region. These ratios correspond closely to those observed in stars with quiet and active chromospheres, respectively. For a chromospheric model suggested by the calcium lines and a four-level Caii ion, we compute H and K line profiles varying the direct collisional coupling and indirect radiative and collisional coupling via the 3 2 D level. To study the quantitative relationship between the brightness of the coronal green line 530.5 nm Fe xiv and the strength of the magnetic field in the corona, we have calculated the cross-correlation of the corresponding synoptic maps for the period 1977 – 2001. The maps of distribution of the green-line brightness I were plotted using every-day monitoring data. The maps of the magnetic field strength B and the tangential B t and radial B r field components at the distance 1.1 R were calculated under potential approximation from the Wilcox Solar Observatory (WSO) photospheric data. It is shown that the correlation I with the field and its components calculated separately for the sunspot formation zone ±30° and the zone 40 – 70° has a cyclic character, the corresponding correlation coefficients in these zones changing in anti-phase. In the sunspot formation zone, all three coefficients are positive and have the greatest values near the cycle minimum decreasing significantly by the maximum. Above 40°, the coefficients are alternating in sign and reach the greatest positive values at the maximum and the greatest negative values, at the minimum of the cycle. It is inferred that the green-line emission in the zone ±30° is mainly controlled by B t, probably due to the existence of low arch systems. In the high-latitude zone, particularly at the minimum of the cycle, an essential influence is exerted by B r, which may be a manifestation of the dominant role of large-scale magnetic fields. Near the activity minimum, when the magnetic field organization is relatively simple, the relation between I and B for the two latitudinal zones under consideration can be represented as a power-law function of the type IB q. In the sunspot formation zone, the power index q is positive and varies from 0.75 to 1.00. In the zone 40 – 70°, it is negative and varies from −0.6 to −0.8. It is found that there is a short time interval approximately at the middle of the ascending branch of the cycle, when the relationship between I and B vanishes. The results obtained are considered in relation to various mechanisms of the corona heating.  相似文献

A comparison of Skylab S082A observations for several solar flares with calculations of the electron temperature sensitive emission line ratio R 1 = I(2s2p 1 P – 2s 2 1 S)/I(2s2p 3 P 1 - 2s 2 1 S) = = I(256.68 Å)/I(491.45 Å) in Be-like SXIII reveals good agreement between theory and experiment, which provides observational support for the accuracy of the adopted atomic data. However, observed values of the electron density sensitive ratio R 2 = I(2s2p 1 P – 2s 2 1 S)/I(2p 2 3 P 2 - 2s2p 3 P 2) = = I(256.68 Å)/I(308.96 Å) all lie below the theoretical high density limit, which is probably due to blending in the 308.96 Å line.  相似文献

The dependence of solar rotation on the size of the chromospheric tracers is considered. On the basis of an analysis of Ca ii K3 daily filtergrams taken in the period 8 May–14 August, 1972, chromospheric features can be divided into two classes according to their size. Features with size falling into the range 24 000–110 000 km can be identified with network elements, while those falling into the range 120 000–300 000 km with active regions, or brightness features of comparable size present at high latitudes. The rotation rate is determined separately for the two families of chromospheric features by means of a cross-correlation technique which directly yields the average daily displacement of tracers due to rotation. Before computing the cross-correlation functions, chromospheric brightness data have been filtered with appropriate bandpass and highpass filters for separating spatial periodicities whose wavelengths fall into the two ranges of size, characteristic of the network pattern and of the activity centers. A difference less than 1% of the rotation rate of the two families of chromospheric features has been found. This is an indication for a substantial corotation at chromospheric levels of different short-lived features, both related to solar activity and controlled by the convective supergranular motions.  相似文献

We explore the dynamics of chromospheric condensations driven by evaporation during the impulsive phase of solar flares. Specifically, we find that the maximum chromospheric downflow speed obeys the approximate relation υd= 0.4 (Fch)1/3, where F is that part of the flare energy flux driving chromospheric evaporation, and ϱch is the mass density in the preflare chromosphere just below the preflare transition region. This implies that chromospheric downflows as measured by Hα asymmetries may be a powerful probe of flare energetics.

We present the processing results of slitless chromospheric spectra in a D3 helium line obtained during the solar eclipse of March 29, 2006. A “Cascade-Photometrics 650” CCD matrix photodetector with a rate of 16 frames/s was used for the observations. Altitude distribution of absolute brightness of the helium chromosphere has been mapped in a latitude interval 30 N-10 S on the western limb. A correlation between absolute brightness of the helium chromosphere and a solar cycle phase has been confirmed. It has been revealed that the altitude distribution of helium emission has one maximum at an altitude of approximately 2000 km. In the lower chromosphere, helium emission is undetectable. This confirms our assumption about absence of an additional maximum at 300 km in the D3 line brightness distribution in the chromosphere during sunspot maximum periods. The results also prove that X-ray coronal radiation with λ < 6 nm is the source of helium excitation in the lower chromosphere.  相似文献

We observed Saturn at far-infrared and submillimeter wavelengths during the Earth's March 1980 passage through the plane of Saturn's rings. Comparison with earlier spectroscopic observations by D. B. Ward [Icarus32, 437–442 (1977)], obtained at a time when the tilt angle of the rings was 21.8°, permits separation of the disk and ring contributions to the flux observed in this wavelength range. We present two main results: (1) The observed emission of the disk between 60 and 180 μm corresponds to a brightness temperature of 104 ± 2°K; (2) the brightness temperature of the rings drops approximately 20°K between 60 and 80 μm. Our data, in conjunction with the data obtained by other observers between 1 μm and 1 mm, permit us to derive an improved estimate for the total Saturnian surface brightness of (4.84 ± 0.32) × 10?4W cm?2 corresponding to an effective temperature of 96.1 ± 1.6°K. The ratio of radiated to incident power, PR/PI, is (1.46 ± 0.08)/(1 - A), where A is the Bond albedo. For A = 0.337 ± 0.029, PR/PI = 2.20 ± 0.15 and Saturn's intrinsic luminosity is LS = (2.9 ± 0.5) × 10?10L.  相似文献

We present the first deep, optical, wide‐field imaging survey of the young open cluster Collinder 359, complemented by near‐infrared follow‐up observations. This study is part of a large programme aimed at examining the dependence of the mass function on environment and time. We have surveyed 1.6 square degree in the cluster in the I and z filters with the CFH12K camera on the Canada‐France‐Hawaii 3.6m telescope down to completeness and detection limits in both filters of 22.0m and 24.0m, respectively. Based on their location in the optical (I‐z ,I ) colour‐magnitude diagram, we have extracted new cluster member candidates in Collinder 359 spanning 1.3‐0.04 M, assuming an age of 100 Myr and a distance of 450 pc for the cluster.We have used the 2MASS database as well as our own near‐infrared photometry to confirm the membership of the optically‐selected cluster candidates. Additionally, we have obtained optical spectroscopy and employed chromospheric activity as a further criterion to assess the membership of candidates. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Moderate-resolution spectra of the C2 Swan 0-1 bandhead, the Na I D lines and the KI resonance lines near 7660 Å obtained at minimum light during the 1988–1989 decline of R CrB are discussed and interpreted in terms of a popular model for R CrB declines. Calculations performed with several models of the solar chromosphere support Ulmschneider's conclusion that relatively short period acoustic waves heat the low chromosphere in the region just above the temperature minimum. However, these same short period waves (10 period P80 s) are not able to maintain chromospheric temperatures at heights where 5000Å(normal) < 10-6. The calculations also show that an earlier conjecture stating that the H2 population might influence the non-LTE chromospheric H- population is probably not correct, due to lower values of the ratio n e/n H inferred from more recent observations. Finally, the calculations support Athay's contention that the Cayrel mechanism alone cannot produce the observed temperature rise, because the magnitude of the radiative cooling in the lines is too great.  相似文献

The problem of the postflare behaviour of chromospheric emission lines in UV Cet-type flare stars is considered. It is shown that the postflare behaviours of different emission lines differ essentially from one another. In particular, the intensity of hydrogen and helium lines must be greatest at flare peak in continuum, while the intensities of 2800 MgII and H and K CaII lines reach their maximum magnitudes in the intermediate period between two flares. Theoretical postflare light curves are derived for the most important chromospheric lines: helium, hydrogen ionized magnesium and calcium (Figures 8, 9, 11, and 16). The definite regularities in sequence of these light curves are established (Figure 17). Methods of obtaining the mass concentration,n *, in the chromospheres of flare stars based on the analysis of hydrogen and calcium light curves are elaborated. Values ofn * obtained for a group of UV Cet-type flare stars are listed in Table VII. The conditions of the intensification of emission lines during the flare are examined, as is the possibility of the existence of an empirical relationship between chromospheric concentration,n * and flare frequency,f U .  相似文献

Relative level populations in Oiii, determined using R-matrix calculations of electron impact excitation rates, are used to derive the theoretical emission line ratios R 1 = I(525.80 Å)/I(599.62 Å), R 2 = I(507.41 Å)/I(599.62 Å), R 3 = I(507.71 Å)/I(599.62 Å), and R 4 = I(508.18 Å)/I(599.62 Å). Electron temperatures deduced from the observed values of these ratios for several solar features obtained with the NRL S082A slitless spectrograph on board Skylab are in good agreement, and also compare favourably with that of maximum Oiii fractional abundance in ionisation equilibrium, logT max = 4.96. These results provide experimental support for the accuracy of the atomic data adopted in the line ratio calculations.  相似文献

Using IRAS measurements, we find positive correlations between both the infrared to optical flux ratio (L FIR/L B) and infrared colour temperature (L 60/L 100) with optical surface brightness. These correlations can be understood by high surface brightness galaxies having (i) a high star formation rate, or (ii) a high-space density of stars and dust.In an attempt to interpret (ii) above, we have produced radiative transfer models for the dust absorption in a galactic disc. These models indicate that the highest surface brightness galaxies may be the most dust obscured (i.e., optically thick) and that the total luminosity (and, hence, mass) of these galaxies may be considerably underestimated.  相似文献

We have produced a sample of 58 edge-on spiral galaxies at redshifts z ~ 1 selected in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. For all galaxies we have analyzed the 2D brightness distributions in the V606 and i775 filters and measured the radial (hr) and vertical (hz) exponential scale lengths of the brightness distribution. We have obtained evidence that the relative thickness of the disks of distant galaxies, i.e., the ratio of the vertical and radial scale lengths, on average, exceeds the relative thickness of the disks of nearby spiral galaxies. The vertical scale length hz of the stellar disks of galaxies shows no big changes at z = 1. The possibility of the evolution of the radial scale length hz for the brightness distribution with redshift is discussed.

We present our 2-year-long photometric (V, R c, I c) observations of the T Tauri star V1184 Tau. They show that the relatively quiet “photometric life” of this object, which ended in 2004 with a sharp brightness decline by four magnitudes, was succeeded by a qualitatively new (in nature) period of activity characterized by high-amplitude irregular photometric variability. Judging by its color variations, the object belongs to the class of UX Ori stars and, hence, variable circumstellar extinction is responsible for its brightness variations. Moreover, the (V?I c)/V color-magnitude diagram for the object is identical to that for UX Ori itself, suggesting that the optical properties of dust grains in the circumstellar space of these stars are similar. At the same time, V1184 Tau is quite dissimilar to UX Ori stars in its light curve, variability amplitude (reaching 4.5 magnitudes in the V band), and some other parameters.  相似文献

Recent R-matrix calculations of electron impact excitation rates in N-like Si VIII are used to derive theoretical emission line intensity ratios involving 2s 22p 3–2s2p 4 transitions in the 216–320 Å wavelength range. A comparison of these with an extensive dataset of solar active region, quiet-Sun, sub-flare and off-limb observations, obtained during rocket flights of the Solar EUV Research Telescope and Spectrograph (SERTS), indicates that the ratio R 1= I(216.94 Å)/I(319.84 Å) may provide a usable electron density diagnostic for coronal plasmas. The ratio involves two lines of comparable intensity, and varies by a factor of about 5 over the useful density range of 108–1011 cm?3. However R 2= I(276.85 Å)/I(319.84 Å) and R 3=I(277.05 Å)/I(319.84 Å) show very poor agreement between theory and observation, due to the severe blending of the 276.85 and 277.05 Å lines with Si VII and Mg VII transitions, respectively, making the ratios unsuitable as density diagnostics. The 314.35 Å feature of Si VIII also appears to be blended, with the other species contributing around 20% to the total line flux.

A compilation of brightness temperature data in the millimetre and sub-millimetre wavelength ranges is used to obtain an empirical relation T B = C n between brightness temperature and wavelength, valid between 1 mm and 1 cm. An analytically soluble model, giving electron temperatures and densities between 1500 km and 4000 km above the photosphere is derived from this relationship, and eclipse data of Thomas and Athay, of the emission at the head of the Balmer continuum. Although this over-simplified model lacks precision in the height co-ordinate, it allows a scale height of around 1000 km for electrons to be deduced, and supplies a convincing test for the absence of hydrostatic equilibrium throughout the region. A more comprehensive and reliable though still simplified numerical model is then presented, being a modification of previous models accounting only for millimetre data. It shows marked departure from UV derived models in this region, and an explanation for the discrepancy is proposed in terms of thermal inhomogeneities on the scale of the chromospheric supergranulation. The stratified model is then geometrically modified to account for observed centrelimb profiles of the Sun measured throughout the sub-millimetre and millimetre region. The scale of any roughness thus introduced is related to the notable lack of millimetric limb brightening, and observational tests for that scale are suggested here. A qualitative picture of this part of the chromosphere is proposed, consistent with existing observations in the millimetre, visible and UV regions of the spectrum.  相似文献

In an earlier paper by Raju, Srikanth, and Singh (1998), the average size of chromospheric network cells has been shown to have a dependence on the solar latitude. This was presumed to be due to the reduction of supergranular length-scales by network magnetic field enhancements. It has been found that the network brightness enhancements over solar latitude support this finding. Significant negative correlations have been found between the average cell size and the network brightness enhancements. Since the brightness enhancements are essentially due to the magnetic field concentrations, it is suggested that the network magnetic fields reduce the network cell sizes. We have also obtained the variations of skewness of network brightness distributions over solar latitude, which follow the network field variations. This complements the findings of Caccin et al. (1998) that skewness of brightness distribution follows the solar cycle. The findings suggest that the dependence of supergranular sizes, network brightness, and skewness of network brightness distribution on solar latitude or on the phase of the solar cycle is due to the associated variation of network magnetic fields.  相似文献

A quiescent filament was observed near the center of the disk (N5, W5) with the MSDP spectrograph of the 50 cm refractor of the Pic-du-Midi Observatory on June 17, 1986. We focus our study on the statistical moments of the Dopplershift,V 1, and the intensity,I 1, at the center of a chord of the Hα profile (±0.256 Å), versus the minimum intensityI 0. We use a statistical model simulating a numbern max of threads (of optical thicknessτ 0 and source functionS 0), seen over the chromosphere. The threadsj along the same line-of-sighti are identical except for the velocityv j (gaussian distributionv 0,σ v). We search for the best fit between the observed and simulated quantities:V 1,σ (V 1),I 1,σ(I 1), and the histogram of theI 0 values over the field of view. A good fit is obtained with: (a) threads characterized byτ 0 = 0.2,S 0 = 0.06 (unit of the continuum at disk center), mean upward velocityv 0 = 1.7 km s−1 and gaussian-type velocity distributionσ v = 3.5 km s−1. Other possible values ofτ 0 andσ v are discussed; (b) underlying chromosphere deduced from observed quiet Sun (outside the filament) by modifying the chromospheric velocities: additional mean upward velocity 0.7 km s−1, standard deviation reduced by a factorF c ∼ 0.7. The results are discussed in connection with the values deduced from prominence observations.  相似文献
