The chemical potential of oxygen (µO2) in equilibrium with magnesiowüstite solid solution (Mg, Fe)O and metallic Fe has been determined by gas-mixing experiments at 1,473 K supplemented by solid-cell EMF experiments at lower temperatures. The results give:
where IW refers to the Fe-"FeO" equilibrium. The previous work of Srecec et al. (1987) and Wiser and Wood (1991) agree well with this equation, as does that of Hahn and Muan (1962) when their reported compositions are corrected to a new calibration curve for lattice parameter vs. composition. The amount of Fe3+ in the magnesiowüstite solid solution in equilibrium with Fe metal was determined by Mössbauer spectroscopy on selected samples. These data were combined with literature data from gravimetric studies and fitted to a semi-empirical equation:
These results were then used to reassess the activity-composition relations in (Mg, Fe)2SiO4 olivine solid solutions at 1,400 K, from the partitioning of Mg and Fe2+ between olivine and magnesiowüstite in equilibrium with metallic Fe experimentally determined by Wiser and Wood (1991). The olivine solid solution is constrained to be nearly symmetric with , with a probable uncertainty of less than ±0.5 kJ/mol (one standard deviation). The results also provide a useful constraint on the free energy of formation of Mg2SiO4.Editorial responsibility: B. Collins  相似文献

Fluorite stability in silicic magmas   总被引:6,自引:1,他引:5
Recent experimental evidence is used to assess the conditions under which fluorite forms an early crystallising phase in silicic magmas. Fluorite solubility primarily depends on the (Na + K)/Al balance in the coexisting silicic melt, reaching a minimum in metaluminous melts. It can display reaction relationships with topaz and titanite, depending on changes in melt composition during crystallisation. An empirical model of fluorite stability in Ca-poor peralkaline rhyolite melts is derived and applied to selected rocks:
At the F contents preserved in most silicic rocks, fluorite should normally appear late in the crystallisation sequence, in agreement with petrographic observations. During fluid-absent crustal anatexis, fluorite should melt at a relatively early stage and restitic fluorite is unlikely to persist during prolonged melting. Fluorite may, however, exert a decisive control on the alkali/alumina balance of sub-aluminous anatectic melts and it can affect the liquid line of descent of silicic magmas once extracted from source.Editorial responsibility: J. The carbon dioxide solubility in alkali basalts: an experimental study   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Experiments were conducted to determine CO2 solubilities in alkali basalts from Vesuvius, Etna and Stromboli volcanoes. The basaltic melts were equilibrated with nearly pure CO2 at 1,200°C under oxidizing conditions and at pressures ranging from 269 to 2,060 bars. CO2 solubility was determined by FTIR measurements. The results show that alkalis have a strong effect on the CO2 solubility and confirm and refine the relationship between the compositional parameter Π devised by Dixon (Am Mineral 82:368–378, 1997) and the CO2 solubility. A general thermodynamic model for CO2 solubility in basaltic melts is defined for pressures up to 2 kbars. Based on the assumption that O2− and CO32− mix ideally, we have:
_boxclose_3^2 - ^m (P,T)X_^2 - ^m f__2 (P,T) K(P,T) = X__3^2 - ^m (P,T) ( X_^2 - ^m f__2 (P,T) ). \begin{gathered} K(P,T) = {\frac{{X_{{{\text{CO}}_{3}^{2 - } }}^{m} (P,T)}}{{X_{{{\text{O}}^{2 - } }}^{m} \times f_{{{\text{CO}}_{2} }} (P,T)}}} \hfill \\ K(P,T) = {{X_{{{\text{CO}}_{3}^{2 - } }}^{m} (P,T)} \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{X_{{{\text{CO}}_{3}^{2 - } }}^{m} (P,T)} {\left( {X_{{{\text{O}}^{2 - } }}^{m} \times f_{{{\text{CO}}_{2} }} (P,T)} \right).}}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {\left( {X_{{{\text{O}}^{2 - } }}^{m} \times f_{{{\text{CO}}_{2} }} (P,T)} \right).}} \hfill \\ \end{gathered}  相似文献

The impact of land-use change on the quality of groundwater in the Xiaotjiang watershed, China was assessed for the period 1982–2004. Groundwater samples were collected from 30 monitoring points across the watershed, and were representative of the various changes, determined by remote sensing and geographical information systems. The results indicate that 610 km2 (60% of the total watershed area) were subject to land-use change during the period. The most important changes were the conversion of 135 km2 of forested land to cultivated land, and 211 km2 of unused land to cultivated land. The main impact was ascribed to diffuse pollution from fertilizers applied to newly cultivated land, and from building development. Overall the groundwater pH value was significantly increased, as were the concentrations of ions , , , , and Cl in groundwater whilst the concentrations of Ca2+ and declined. More precisely, in the regions where forested land and unused land were converted into cultivated land, the pH value and the concentrations of Mg2+, , , , , Cl increased whilst the concentrations of Ca2+ and declined. However in the region where cultivated land was converted into construction land, the pH value and the concentrations of Ca2+, Mg2+, , , , , , Cl increased.

Uranium mineralization in the El Erediya area, Egyptian Eastern Desert, has been affected by both high temperature and low temperature fluids. Mineralization is structurally controlled and is associated with jasperoid veins that are hosted by a granitic pluton. This granite exhibits extensive alteration, including silicification, argillization, sericitization, chloritization, carbonatization, and hematization. The primary uranium mineral is pitchblende, whereas uranpyrochlore, uranophane, kasolite, and an unidentified hydrated uranium niobate mineral are the most abundant secondary uranium minerals. Uranpyrochlore and the unidentified hydrated uranium niobate mineral are interpreted as alteration products of petscheckite. The chemical formula of the uranpyrochlore based upon the Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA) is . It is characterized by a relatively high Zr content (average ZrO2 = 6.6 wt%). The average composition of the unidentified hydrated uranium niobate mineral is , where U and Nb represent the dominant cations in the U and Nb site, respectively. Uranophane is the dominant U6+ silicate phase in oxidized zones of the jasperoid veins. Kasolite is less abundant than uranophane and contains major U, Pb, and Si but only minor Ca, Fe, P, and Zr. A two-stage metallogenetic model is proposed for the alteration processes and uranium mineralization at El Erediya. The primary uranium minerals were formed during the first stage of the hydrothermal activity that formed jasperoid veins in El Eradiya granite (130–160 Ma). This stage is related to the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous phase of the final Pan-African tectono-thermal event in Egypt. After initial formation of El Erediya jasperoid veins, a late stage of hydrothermal alteration includes argillization, dissolution of iron-bearing sulfide minerals, formation of iron-oxy hydroxides, and corrosion of primary uranium minerals, resulting in enrichment of U, Ca, Pb, Zr, and Si. During this stage, petscheckite was altered to uranpyrochlore and oxy-petscheckite. Uranium was likely transported as uranyl carbonate and uranyl fluoride complexes. With change of temperature and pH, these complexes became unstable and combined with silica, calcium, and lead to form uranophane and kasolite. Finally, at a later stage of low-temperature supergene alteration, oxy-petscheckite was altered to an unidentified hydrated uranium niobate mineral by removal of Fe.  相似文献

We have experimentally determined the partitioning of REE (rare earth elements) between zoisite and hydrous silicate melt at 1,100 °C and 3 GPa. All REE behave moderately compatible in zoisite with respect to the melt and all show a smooth parabolic dependence on ionic radius. The partitioning parabola peaks at Nd , and the compatibility slightly decreases towards La and decreases by half an order of magnitude towards Yb . Application of the elastic strain model of Blundy and Wood (1994) to the available zoisite and allanite REE mineral/melt partitioning data and comparison with partitioning pattern calculated from a combination of structural and physical data (taken from the literature) with the elastic strain model suggest that in zoisite REE prefer the A1-site and that only La and Ce are incorporated into the A2-site in significant amounts. In contrast, in allanite, all REE are preferentially incorporated into the large and highly co-ordinated A2 site. As a result, zoisite fractionates the MREE effectively from the HREE and moderately from the LREE, while allanite fractionates the LREE very effectively from the MREE and HREE. Consequently, the presence of either zoisite or allanite during slab melting will lead to quite different REE pattern in the produced melt.Editorial responsibility: J. Hoefs  相似文献

We report the results of experiments designed to separate the effects of temperature and pressure from liquid composition on the partitioning of Ni between olivine and liquid, \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}}\). Experiments were performed from 1300 to 1600 °C and 1 atm to 3.0 GPa, using mid-ocean ridge basalt (MORB) glass surrounded by powdered olivine in graphite–Pt double capsules at high pressure and powdered MORB in crucibles fabricated from single crystals of San Carlos olivine at one atmosphere. In these experiments, pressure and temperature were varied in such a way that we produced a series of liquids, each with an approximately constant composition (~12, ~15, and ~21 wt% MgO). Previously, we used a similar approach to show that \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}}\) for a liquid with ~18 wt% MgO is a strong function of temperature. Combining the new data presented here with our previous results allows us to separate the effects of temperature from composition. We fit our data based on a Ni–Mg exchange reaction, which yields \(\ln \left( {D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{molar}} } \right) = \frac{{ -\Delta _{r(1)} H_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } }}{RT} + \frac{{\Delta _{r(1)} S_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } }}{R} - \ln \left( {\frac{{X_{\text{MgO}}^{\text{liq}} }}{{X_{{{\text{MgSi}}_{ 0. 5} {\text{O}}_{ 2} }}^{\text{ol}} }}} \right).\) Each subset of constant composition experiments displays roughly the same temperature dependence of \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}}\) (i.e.,\(-\Delta _{r(1)} H_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\)) as previously reported for liquids with ~18 wt% MgO. Fitting new data presented here (15 experiments) in conjunction with our 13 previously published experiments (those with ~18 wt% MgO in the silicate liquid) to the above expression gives \(-\Delta _{r(1)} H_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\) = 3641 ± 396 (K) and \(\Delta _{r(1)} S_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\) = ? 1.597 ± 0.229. Adding data from the literature yields \(-\Delta _{r(1)} H_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\) = 4505 ± 196 (K) and \(\Delta _{r(1)} S_{{T_{\text{ref}} ,P_{\text{ref}} }}^{ \circ } /R\) = ? 2.075 ± 0.120, a set of coefficients that leads to a predictive equation for \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}}\) applicable to a wide range of melt compositions. We use the results of our work to model the melting of peridotite beneath lithosphere of varying thickness and show that: (1) a positive correlation between NiO in magnesian olivine phenocrysts and lithospheric thickness is expected given a temperature-dependent \(D_{\text{Ni}}^{\text{ol/liq}} ,\) and (2) the magnitude of the slope for natural samples is consistent with our experimentally determined temperature dependence. Alternative processes to generate the positive correlation between NiO in magnesian olivines and lithospheric thickness, such as the melting of olivine-free pyroxenite, are possible, but they are not required to explain the observed correlation of NiO concentration in initially crystallizing olivine with lithospheric thickness.  相似文献

Equilibrium alumina contents of orthopyroxene coexisting with spinel and forsterite in the system MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 have been reversed at 15 different P-T conditions, in the range 1,030–1,600° C and 10–28 kbar. The present data and three reversals of Danckwerth and Newton (1978) have been modeled assuming an ideal pyroxene solid solution with components Mg2Si2O6 (En) and MgAl2SiO6 (MgTs), to yield the following equilibrium condition (J, bar, K): $$\begin{gathered} RT{\text{ln(}}X_{{\text{MgTs}}} {\text{/}}X_{{\text{En}}} {\text{) + 29,190}} - {\text{13}}{\text{.42 }}T + 0.18{\text{ }}T + 0.18{\text{ }}T^{1.5} \hfill \\ + \int\limits_1^P {\Delta V_{T,P}^{\text{0}} dP = 0,} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ where $$\begin{gathered} + \int\limits_1^P {\Delta V_{T,P}^{\text{0}} dP} \hfill \\ = [0.013 + 3.34 \times 10^{ - 5} (T - 298) - 6.6 \times 10^{ - 7} P]P. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The data of Perkins et al. (1981) for the equilibrium of orthopyroxene with pyrope have been similarly fitted with the result: $$\begin{gathered} - RT{\text{ln(}}X_{{\text{MgTs}}} \cdot X_{{\text{En}}} {\text{) + 5,510}} - 88.91{\text{ }}T + 19{\text{ }}T^{1.2} \hfill \\ + \int\limits_1^P {\Delta V_{T,P}^{\text{0}} dP = 0,} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ where $$\begin{gathered} + \int\limits_1^P {\Delta V_{T,P}^{\text{0}} dP} \hfill \\ = [ - 0.832 - 8.78{\text{ }} \times {\text{ 10}}^{ - {\text{5}}} (T - 298) + 16.6{\text{ }} \times {\text{ 10}}^{ - 7} P]{\text{ }}P. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The new parameters are in excellent agreement with measured thermochemical data and give the following properties of the Mg-Tschermak endmember: $$H_{f,970}^0 = - 4.77{\text{ kJ/mol, }}S_{298}^0 = 129.44{\text{ J/mol}} \cdot {\text{K,}}$$ and $$V_{298,1}^0 = 58.88{\text{ cm}}^{\text{3}} .$$ The assemblage orthopyroxene+spinel+olivine can be used as a geothermometer for spinel lherzolites, subject to a choice of thermodynamic mixing models for multicomponent orthopyroxene and spinel. An ideal two-site mixing model for pyroxene and Sack's (1982) expressions for spinel activities provide, with the present experimental calibration, a geothermometer which yields temperatures of 800° C to 1,350° C for various alpine peridotites and 850° C to 1,130° C for various volcanic inclusions of upper mantle origin.  相似文献

Groundwater-level data from an aquifer test utilizing four pumped wells conducted in the South Pasco wellfield in Pasco County, Florida, USA, were analyzed to determine the anisotropic transmissivity tensor, storativity, and leakance in the vicinity of the wellfield. A weighted least-squares procedure was used to analyze drawdowns measured at eight observation wells, and it was determined that the major axis of transmissivity extends approximately from north to south and the minor axis extends approximately from west to east with an angle of anisotropy equal to N4.54°W. The transmissivity along the major axis ${\left( {T_{{\xi \xi }} } \right)}$ is 14,019 m2 day–1, and the transmissivity along the minor axis ${\left( {T_{{\eta \eta }} } \right)}$ is 4,303 m2 day–1. The equivalent transmissivity $T_{e} = {\left( {T_{{\xi \xi }} T_{{\eta \eta }} } \right)}^{{1 \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {1 2}} \right. \kern-0em} 2}} = 7,767{{\text{m}}^{2} } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{{\text{m}}^{2} } {{\text{day}}^{{ - {\text{1}}}} }}} \right. \kern-0em} {{\text{day}}^{{ - {\text{1}}}} }$ , and the ratio of anisotropy is 3.26. The storativity of the aquifer is 7.52?×?10?4, and the leakance of the overlying confining unit is 1.37?×?10?4 day?1. The anisotropic properties determined for the South Pasco wellfield in this investigation confirm the results of previous aquifer tests conducted in the wellfield and help to quantify the NW–SE to NE–SW trends for regional fracture patterns and inferred solution-enhanced flow zones in west-central Florida.  相似文献

Experiments at high pressure and temperature indicate that excess Ca may be dissolved in diopside. If the (Ca, Mg)2Si2O6 clinopyroxene solution extends to more Ca-rich compositions than CaMgSi2O6, macroscopic regular solution models cannot strictly be applied to this system. A nonconvergent site-disorder model, such as that proposed by Thompson (1969, 1970), may be more appropriate. We have modified Thompson's model to include asymmetric excess parameters and have used a linear least-squares technique to fit the available experimental data for Ca-Mg orthopyroxene-clinopyroxene equilibria and Fe-free pigeonite stability to this model. The model expressions for equilibrium conditions \(\mu _{{\text{Mg}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{6}} }^{{\text{opx}}} = \mu _{{\text{Mg}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{6}} }^{{\text{cpx}}} \) (reaction A) and \(\mu _{{\text{Ca}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{6}} }^{{\text{opx}}} = \mu _{{\text{Ca}}_{\text{2}} {\text{Si}}_{\text{2}} {\text{O}}_{\text{6}} }^{{\text{cpx}}} \) (reaction B) are given by: 1 $$\begin{gathered} \Delta \mu _{\text{A}}^{\text{O}} = {\text{RT 1n}}\left[ {\frac{{(X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{opx}}} )^2 }}{{X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M1}}} \cdot X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} }}} \right] - \frac{1}{2}\{ W_{21} [2(X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^3 - (X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} ] \hfill \\ {\text{ + 2W}}_{{\text{22}}} [X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^2 - (X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^3 + \Delta {\text{G}}_{\text{*}}^{\text{0}} (X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M1}}} \cdot X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )\} \hfill \\ {\text{ + W}}^{{\text{opx}}} (X_{{\text{Wo}}}^{{\text{opx}}} )^2 \hfill \\ \Delta \mu _{\text{B}}^{\text{O}} = {\text{RT 1n}}\left[ {\frac{{(X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{opx}}} )^2 }}{{X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M1}}} \cdot X_{{\text{Ca}}}^{{\text{M2}}} }}} \right] - \frac{1}{2}\{ 2W_{21} [2(X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^2 - (X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^3 ] \hfill \\ {\text{ + W}}_{{\text{22}}} [2(X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^3 - (X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )^2 + \Delta {\text{G}}_{\text{*}}^{\text{0}} (X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M1}}} \cdot X_{{\text{Mg}}}^{{\text{M2}}} )\} \hfill \\ {\text{ + W}}^{{\text{opx}}} (X_{{\text{En}}}^{{\text{opx}}} )^2 \hfill \\ \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ where 1 $$\begin{gathered} \Delta \mu _{\text{A}}^{\text{O}} = 2.953 + 0.0602{\text{P}} - 0.00179{\text{T}} \hfill \\ \Delta \mu _{\text{B}}^{\text{O}} = 24.64 + 0.958{\text{P}} - (0.0286){\text{T}} \hfill \\ {\text{W}}_{{\text{21}}} = 47.12 + 0.273{\text{P}} \hfill \\ {\text{W}}_{{\text{22}}} = 66.11 + ( - 0.249){\text{P}} \hfill \\ {\text{W}}^{{\text{opx}}} = 40 \hfill \\ \Delta {\text{G}}_*^0 = 155{\text{ (all values are in kJ/gfw)}}{\text{.}} \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ . The predicted concentrations of Ca on the clinopyroxene Ml site are low enough to be compatible with crystallographic studies. Temperatures calculated from the model for coexisting ortho- and clinopyroxene pairs fit the experimental data to within 10° in most cases; the worst discrepancy is 30°. Phase relations for clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene and pigeonite are successfully described by this model at temperatures up to 1,600° C and pressures from 0.001 to 40 kbar. Predicted enthalpies of solution agree well with the calorimetric measurements of Newton et al. (1979). The nonconvergent site disorder model affords good approximations to both the free energy and enthalpy of clinopyroxenes, and, therefore, the configurational entropy as well. This approach may provide an example for Febearing pyroxenes in which cation site exchange has an even more profound effect on the thermodynamic properties.  相似文献

The solubility of calcite in H2O was measured at 6–16 kbar, 500–800 °C, using a piston-cylinder apparatus. The solubility was determined by the weight loss of a single crystal and by direct analysis of the quench fluid. Calcite dissolves congruently in the pressure (P) and temperature (T) range of this study. At 10 kbar, calcite solubility increases with increasing temperature from 0.016±0.005 molal at 500 °C to 0.057±0.022 molal at 750 °C. The experiments reveal evidence for hydrous melting of calcite between 750 and 800 °C. Solubilities show only a slight increase with increasing P over the range investigated. Comparison with work at low P demonstrates that the P dependence of calcite solubility is large between 1 and 6 kbar, increasing at 500 °C from 1.8×10–5 molal at 1 kbar to 6.4×10–3 molal at 6 kbar. The experimental results are described by:
where T is in Kelvin and H2O is the density of pure water in g/cm3. The equation is applicable at 1–20 kbar and 400–800 °C, where calcite and H2O stably coexist. Extrapolated thermodynamic data for indicates that the dominant dissolved carbon species is CO2,aq at all experimental conditions. The results require that equilibrium constant for the reaction:
increases by several orders of magnitude between 1 and 6 kbar, and also rises with isobaric T increase. Published thermodynamic data for aqueous species fail to predict this behavior. The increase in calcite solubility with P and T demonstrates that there is a strong potential for calcite precipitation during cooling and decompression of water-rich metamorphic fluids sourced in the middle to lower crust.Editorial responsibility: T.L. Opening and resetting temperatures in heating geochronological systems   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We present a theoretical model for diffusive daughter isotope loss in radiochronological systems with increasing temperature. It complements previous thermochronological models, which focused on cooling, and allows for testing opening and resetting of radiochronometers during heating. The opening and resetting temperatures are, respectively,
where R is the gas constant, E and D 0 are the activation energy and the pre-exponential factor of the Arrhenius law for diffusion of the daughter isotope, a the half-size of the system (radius for sphere and cylinder and half-thickness for plane sheet) and τ the heating time constant, related to the heating rate by
For opening and resetting thresholds corresponding to 1 and 99% loss of daughter isotope, respectively, the retention parameters for sphere, cylinder and plane sheet geometries are A op = 1.14 × 105, 5.07 × 104 and 1.27 × 104 and A rs = 2.40, 1.37 and 0.561. According to this model, the opening and resetting temperatures are significantly different for most radiochronometers and are, respectively, lower and higher than the closure temperature. A garnet-clinopyroxene geothermometer based on the available experimental data on compositions of coexisting phases in the system MgO-FeO-MnO-Al2O3-Na2O-SiO2 is as follows: $$T({\text{}}K) = \frac{{8288 + 0.0276 P {\text{(bar)}} + Q1 - Q2}}{{1.987 \ln K_{\text{D}} + 2.4083}}$$ where P is pressure, and Q1, Q2, and K D are given by the following equations $$Q1 = 2,710{\text{(}}X_{{\text{Fe}}} - X_{{\text{Mg}}} {\text{)}} + 3,150{\text{ }}X_{{\text{Ca}}} + 2,600{\text{ }}X_{{\text{Mn}}} $$ (mole fractions in garnet) $$\begin{gathered}Q2 = - 6,594[X_{{\text{Fe}}} {\text{(}}X_{{\text{Fe}}} - 2X_{{\text{Mg}}} {\text{)]}} \hfill \\{\text{ }} - 12762{\text{ [}}X_{{\text{Fe}}} - X_{{\text{Mg}}} (1 - X_{{\text{Fe}}} {\text{)]}} \hfill \\{\text{ }} - 11,281[X_{{\text{Ca}}} (1 - X_{{\text{Al}}} ) - 2X_{{\text{Mg}}} 2X_{{\text{Ca}}} ] \hfill \\{\text{ + 6137[}}X_{{\text{Ca}}} (2X_{{\text{Mg}}} + X_{{\text{Al}}} )] \hfill \\{\text{ + 35,791[}}X_{{\text{Al}}} (1 - 2X_{{\text{Mg}}} )] \hfill \\{\text{ + 25,409[(}}X_{{\text{Ca}}} )^2 ] - 55,137[X_{{\text{Ca}}} (X_{{\text{Mg}}} - X_{{\text{Fe}}} )] \hfill \\{\text{ }} - 11,338[X_{{\text{Al}}} (X_{{\text{Fe}}} - X_{{\text{Mg}}} )] \hfill \\\end{gathered} $$ [mole fractions in clinopyroxene Mg = MgSiO3, Fe = FeSiO3, Ca = CaSiO3, Al = (Al2O3-Na2O)] K D = (Fe/Mg) in garnet/(Fe/Mg) in clinopyroxene. The compositions of coexisting pyroxmangites, rhodonites, rhodochrosites and manganese calcites in regional metamorphosed manganese cale-silicate marbles from Val Scerscen and Alagna were analysed by microprobe and permit definition of critical tie lines at metamorphic grades appropriate to temperatures between 400 and 450 °C.Variations in composition of coexisting mineral pairs in one and the same locality are attributed to variations in and not to metamorphic temperatures. From the analysed assemblages isothermal plots (with SiO2 as excess component) were constructed for the system CaO-MnO-SiO2-CO2.  相似文献

The density ρ of Caspian Sea waters was measured as a function of temperature (273.15–343.15) K at conductivity salinities of 7.8 and 11.3 using the Anton-Paar Densitometer. Measurements were also made on one of the samples (S = 11.38) diluted with water as a function of temperature (T = 273.15–338.15 K) and salinity (2.5–11.3). These latter results have been used to develop an equation of state for the Caspian Sea (σ = ±0.007 kg m−3)
where ρ0 is the density of water and the parameters A, B and C are given by
Measurements of the density of artificial Caspian Sea water at 298.15 K agree to ± 0.012 kg m−3 with the real samples. These results indicate that the composition of Caspian Sea waters must be close to earlier measurements of the major components. Model calculations based on this composition yield densities that agree with the measured values to ± 0.012 kg m−3. The new density measurements are higher than earlier measurements. This may be related to a higher concentration of dissolved organic carbon found in the present samples (500 μM) which is much higher than the values in ocean waters (~65 μM).  相似文献

A thermodynamic formulation of hydrous Mg-cordierite (Mg2Al4Si5O18·nH2O) has been obtained by application of calorimetric and X-ray diffraction data for hydrous cordierite to the results of hydrothermal syntheses. The data include measurements of the molar heat capacity and enthalpy of hydration and the molar volume. The synthesis data are consistent with a thermodynamic formulation in which H2O mixes ideally on a single crystallographic site in hydrous cordierite. The standard molar Gibbs free energy of hydration is-9.5±1.0 kJ/mol (an average of 61 syntheses). The standard molar entropy of hydration derived from this value is-108±3 J/mol-K. An equation providing the H2O content of cordierite as a function of temperature and fugacity of H2O is as follows (n moles of H2O per formula unit, n<1): $$\begin{gathered}n = {{f_{{\text{ H}}_{\text{2}} O}^{\text{V}} } \mathord{\left/{\vphantom {{f_{{\text{ H}}_{\text{2}} O}^{\text{V}} } {\left( {f_{{\text{ H}}_{\text{2}} O}^{\text{V}} + {\text{exp}}\left[ { - {\text{3}}{\text{.8389}} - 5025.2\left( {\frac{1}{T} - \frac{1}{{298.15}}} \right)} \right.} \right.}}} \right.\kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {\left( {f_{{\text{ H}}_{\text{2}} O}^{\text{V}} + {\text{exp}}\left[ { - {\text{3}}{\text{.8389}} - 5025.2\left( {\frac{1}{T} - \frac{1}{{298.15}}} \right)} \right.} \right.}} \hfill \\{\text{ }}\left. {\left. { - {\text{ln}}\left( {\frac{T}{{{\text{298}}{\text{.15}}}}} \right) - \left( {\frac{{298.15}}{T} - 1} \right)} \right]} \right) \hfill \\\end{gathered}$$ Application of this formulation to the breakdown reaction of Mg-cordierite to an assemblage of pyrope-sillimanite-quartz±H2O shows that cordierite is stabilized by 3 to 3.5 kbar under H2O-saturated conditions. The thermodynamic properties of H2O in cordierite are similar to those of liquid water, with a standard molar enthalpy and Gibbs free energy of hydration that are the same (within experimental uncertainty) as the enthalpy and Gibbs free energy of vaporization. By contrast, most zeolites have Gibbs free energies of hydration two to four times more negative than the corresponding value for the vaporization of water.  相似文献

To investigate high-temperature creep and kinetic decomposition of nickel orthosilicate (Ni2SiO4), aggregates containing 3 vol% amorphous SiO2 have been deformed in uniaxial compression at a total pressure of one atomsphere. Twenty-three samples with grain sizes (d) from 9 to 30 m were deformed at temperatures (T) from 1573 to 1813 K, differential stresses () from 3 to 20 MPa, and oxygen fugacities (f o 2) from 10-1 to 105 Pa. At temperatures up to 1773 K, the steady-state creep rate () can be described by the flow law

Crystals of challacolloite, KPb2Cl5, and hephaistosite, TlPb2Cl5, from volcanic sublimates formed on the crater rim of the “La Fossa Crater” at Vulcano, Aeolian Archipelago, Italy, were investigated. Chemical compositions were ${\left( {{\text{K}}_{{0.93}} {\text{Tl}}_{{0.02}} } \right)}_{{\Sigma = 0.95}} {\text{Pb}}_{{2.04}} {\left( {{\text{Cl}}_{{4.90}} {\text{Br}}_{{0.11}} } \right)}_{{\Sigma = 5.01}} $ and ${\text{Tl}}_{{0.94}} {\text{Pb}}_{{2.01}} {\left( {{\text{Cl}}_{{4.91}} {\text{Br}}_{{0.14}} } \right)}_{{\Sigma = 5.05}} $ , respectively. Single crystal X-ray measurements showed monoclinic symmetry for both phases, space group P21/c, with the following unit-cell parameters: a = 8.8989(4), b = 7.9717(5), c = 12.5624(8) Å, β = 90.022(4)°, V = 891.2(1) Å3, Z = 4 (challacolloite) and a = 9.0026(6), b = 7.9723(6), c = 12.5693(9) Å, β = 90.046(4)°, V = 902.1(1) Å3, Z = 4 (hephaistosite). The structure refinements converge to R = 3.99% and R = 3.86%, respectively. The effects of Br?Cl and K?Tl substitutions on the structure of these natural compounds have been discussed.  相似文献
