The fluctuation of the angular positions of reference extragalactic radio and optical sources under the influence of the irregular gravitational field of visible Galactic stars is considered. It is shown that these angular fluctuations range from a few up to hundreds of microarcseconds. This leads to a small rotation of the celestial reference frame. The non-diagonal coefficients of the rotation matrix are of the order of a microarcsecond. The temporal variation of these coefficients due to the proper motion of the foreground stars is of the order of one microsecond per 20 years. The celestial reference frame can therefore be considered inertial and homogeneous only to microarcsecond accuracy. Astrometric catalogues with microarcsecond accuracy will be unstable, and must be re-established every 20 years. 相似文献

VLTI interferometry will allow imaging of galactic and extragalactic sources with milliarcsecond angular resolution. For moderately
bright sources the spectral resolution will be of the order of 10000. These capabilities will allow detailed studies of solar
system objects, stars, proto-planetary systems and the detection of hot extra-solar planets. The observations of galactic
nuclei will allow unprecedented measurements of physical parameters in these systems. VLTI will be a prime instrument to study
the immediate environment of the massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way. With the exception of a few `self-referencing'
sources the observations of extragalactic nuclei will benefit from an extended capability for simultaneous measurements of
nearby reference sources for fringe tracking. With beam combination instruments like AMBER, MIDI, PRIMA, and GENIE the VLTI
will reach full maturity at a time when other interferometric instruments at different wavelengths will be fully operational.
Most important are ALMA (in the mm- and sub-mm-domain), LOFAR and SKA (in the radio meter to centimeter domain) and of course
VLB-networks in the radio, and other – at that time –well developed interferometers in the optical. A major scientific potential
of future scientific VLTI programs will lie in an efficient combination of these high angular resolution capabilities.

Conclusions The present situation with absolute methods is the accumulated result of continuous deviations from the classical basic principles during the current century, and this has led to the obfuscation of the general clear concepts.While the available catalogues which contain hybrid coordinates of stars are useful for many purposes, they are of limited use for improving the theories of the solar system bodies or verifying the laws of dynamics. For these tasks, one must compare calculated coordinates with theory independent ones, i.e. such, wich are either related to absolute coordinates of stars or related to extragalactic radio objects. If international cooperation in the field of absolute observations with astrolabes and other BIH instruments should be organized, the coming years will show which of the alternatives is more effective. 相似文献

The excellent spatial resolution of the Chandra observatory offers the unprecedented possibility to measure proper motions
at X-ray wavelength with relatively high accuracy using as reference the background of extragalactic or remote galactic X-ray
sources. We took advantage of this capability to constrain the proper motion of RX J0806.4-4123 and RX J0420.0-5022, two X-ray
bright and radio quiet isolated neutron stars (INSs) discovered by ROSAT and lacking an optical counterpart. In this paper,
we present results from a preliminary analysis from which we derive 2σ upper limits of 76 mas/yr and 138 mas/yr on the proper motions of RX J0806.4-4123 and RX J0420.0-5022 respectively. We use
these values together with those of other ROSAT discovered INSs to constrain the origin, distance and evolutionary status
of this particular group of objects. We find that the tangential velocities of radio quiet ROSAT neutron stars are probably
consistent with those of ‘normal’ pulsars. Their distribution on the sky and, for those having accurate proper motion vectors,
their possible birth places, all point to a local population, probably created in the part of the Gould Belt nearest to the
earth.

The optical luminosities of extragalactic objects with broad emission lines, i.e. quasi-stellar radio sources, radio quiet quasi-stellar objects and Seyfert galaxies are compared. At high luminosities (M < - 23) we find no difference in the form of the optical luminosity function for radio quiet and radio emitting objects; at low luminosities this function is growing steeply only for radio quiet objects, whereas for objects with higher radio indices it remains nearly constant below M = - 22. This may possibly be interpreted as indicating a division between the optically bright “quasars” and the less luminous objects. The quasars with the highest radio index show only a small scatter in optical luminosities and thus yield a well defined Hubble relation. 相似文献

The question of positioning the optical counterparts of the ICRF quasars is outlined in the perspective of future space astrometry
missions, which ultimately will bring a new realization of the ICRS in the optical range. Ground-based interferometry with
a dual-field observing mode (PRIMA/VLTI),together with the missions DIVA and FAME, will have a key role in building an extragalactic
reference frame in the optical/near-IR range with about the same accuracy as that of the present (VLBI) primary frame.

The connection of the HIPPARCOS reference system to extragalactic objects by photographic astrometry
The expected error of the connection of the HIPPARCOS system with an extragalactic reference system by means of ground-based photographic astrometry was calculated. Two different catalogues of proper motions with respect to extragalactic objects and the HIPPARCOS proper motions were simulated. An accuracy of 0″14 per century using only 10 fields with 119 link stars of the Tautenburg Schmidt telescope (134/200/400) and 0″07 per century using 93 fields with 336 link stars of the Kiev long focus astrograph (40/550) were obtained. 相似文献

The celestial distribution of the intensity of diffuse soft X-rays is mapped by reference to a critical review of observations available. The soft X-rays of extragalactic origin are subtracted, taking the interstellar absorption into account. The distribution of the galactic component thus obtained shows irregularities, but the general behaviour can be accounted for in terms of a cylindrical distribution of the X-ray emissivity with the scale height of 100300 pc in the direction perpendicular to the galactic plane. Magnetic fields are observed everywhere in the universe. In this review, we concentrate on the observational aspects of the magnetic fields of Galactic and extragalactic objects. Readers can follow the milestones in the observations of cosmic magnetic fields obtained from the most important tracers of magnetic fields, namely, the star-light polarization, the Zeeman effect, the rotation measures (RMs, hereafter) of extragalactic radio sources, the pulsar RMs, radio polarization observations, as well as the newly implemented sub-mm and mm polarization capabilities. The magnetic field of the Galaxy was first discovered in 1949 by optical polarization observations. The local magnetic fields within one or two kpc have been well delineated by starlight polarization data. The polarization observations of diffuse Galactic radio background emission in 1962 confirmed unequivocally the existence of a Galactic magnetic field. Low surface brightness clouds observed at optical, infrared, and radio wavelengths are discussed. We present evidence that some clouds at high galactic latitudes are associated with the Local Group, M81, and possibly even with higher redshift extragalactic objects.Low temperature clouds at high latitude must affect at some level the short wave length side of the cosmic background radiation. If some of these clouds are extragalactic there should be a further effect on the interpretation of CBR measures. 相似文献

We report the extragalactic radio-continuum detection of 15 planetary nebulae (PNe) in the Magellanic Clouds (MCs) from recent Australia Telescope Compact Array+Parkes mosaic surveys. These detections were supplemented by new and high-resolution radio, optical and infrared observations which helped to resolve the true nature of the objects. Four of the PNe are located in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) and 11 are located in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Based on Galactic PNe the expected radio flux densities at the distance of the LMC/SMC are up to ∼2.5 and ∼2.0 mJy at 1.4 GHz, respectively. We find that one of our new radio PNe in the SMC has a flux density of 5.1 mJy at 1.4 GHz, several times higher than expected. We suggest that the most luminous radio PN in the SMC (N S68) may represent the upper limit to radio-peak luminosity because it is approximately three times more luminous than NGC 7027, the most luminous known Galactic PN. We note that the optical diameters of these 15 Magellanic Clouds (MCs) PNe vary from very small (∼0.08 pc or 0.32 arcsec; SMP L47) to very large (∼1 pc or 4 arcsec; SMP L83). Their flux densities peak at different frequencies, suggesting that they may be in different stages of evolution. We briefly discuss mechanisms that may explain their unusually high radio-continuum flux densities. We argue that these detections may help solve the 'missing mass problem' in PNe whose central stars were originally 1–8 M⊙ . We explore the possible link between ionized haloes ejected by the central stars in their late evolution and extended radio emission. Because of their higher than expected flux densities, we tentatively call this PNe (sub)sample –'Super PNe'. 相似文献
