The structural behavior under pressure of three lanthanide pyrochlore zirconates Ln2Zr2O7 (Ln3+ = Ce, Nd and Gd) has been investigated by X-ray diffraction up to 50 GPa. For all three compounds, a symmetry reduction from cubic to monoclinic is observed under increasing pressure dependant on a pressure value that increases with the ionic radius of the lanthanide ions, r Ln. The cubic and monoclinic phases coexist over a wide pressure range which increases with r Ln. The zero-pressure bulk modulus of the cubic phase, B 0, and its pressure derivative, B 0′, have been determined by fitting the experimental compressibility curves to the Birch–Murnaghan equation of state.  相似文献

The high-pressure behavior of Li x La1/3NbO3 (x = 1/6, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3) perovskites where Li cations were substituted for the existing vacancies was studied using synchrotron X-ray diffraction. It was shown that all these materials undergo irreversible pressure-induced amorphization around 14.5 GPa regardless of the Li concentration. The Li-inserted materials were found to exhibit a standard pressure response (bulk modulus pressure derivative B 0′ ~4) when in the crystalline phase, whereas La1/3NbO3 shows a linear volume contraction versus pressure, i.e., B 0′ ~(?1). These results suggest that the structural collapse is not a consequence of cation disorder resulting from the Nb atoms (B-site) migrating to the A-site vacancies. The observed pressure response can be understood by increased occupancy of the A-sites opposing the tilting of the NbO6 octahedra. The pressure evolution of the Nb oxidation state is discussed.  相似文献

The photoluminescence properties of synthetic zircon, ZrSiO4, doped with REE3+ (REE = Pr, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er) were investigated using combined excitation and emission spectroscopy. All samples showed luminescence characteristics of intra-ion energy transitions, similar to other lanthanide-doped materials. However, the relative intensities were dependent on the energy of excitation and the presence of charge-transfer bands were inferred from excitation spectra. From the data, we conclude that the lanthanides in zircon occur in more than one type of coordination. Energy transfer between different lanthanides was observed in some co-doped samples and emissions that were unassigned in previous studies have been assigned to specific lanthanides based on excitation spectroscopy.  相似文献

Kerogen is an important organic matter fraction widely spread in soils and sediments. It plays a major role in the sorption and sequestration of hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) such as trichlorobenzene (TCB). It is known that kerogen is geochemically heterogeneous due to the differences in source materials and diagenesis history. We hypothesized that kerogen derived from different source materials and diagenetic history exhibits different sorption properties for TCB. We employed two different kerogen materials (coals) as the original materials and two series of kerogen for a given series with an identical source material but different alteration history were yielded through thermal treatment at temperature ranging from 200 to 500℃. The original and treated materials were characterized for their physicochemical properties. Sorption experiments were conducted with batch reactor systems using 1, 3, 5-TCB as the HOCs sorbates and the original and treated materials as the sorbents.  相似文献

Water samples were collected from 10 locations along the Truckee River system, 14 locations along the Walker River system, and 12 locations along the Carson River, and analyzed for B, Mo, V, W, Na, Cl, and pH. Boron concentrations ranged from approximately 2 mol/kg in the upper reaches of the Truckee River to almost 1,200 mol/kg in Pyramid Lake. Molybdenum, V, and W had concentrations in the nanomolal range; Mo varied from a low of about 12 nmol/kg to a high of 3,200 nmol/kg (Walker Lake); V ranged from 9 nmol/kg to approximately 470 nmol/kg; and W varied from a low value around 0.8 nmol/kg (West Walker River) to 1,030 nmol/kg. The high concentrations of these oxyanion-forming trace elements in the rivers reflects (1) the relative stability of these oxyanions (e.g., MoO4 2-, HVO4 2-, WO4 2-, B(OH)3, and/or B(OH)4 -) in the alkaline, well oxygenated river and lake waters, (2) contributions of hydrothermal waters (especially for B), and (3) weathering of rocks/regolith with high concentrations of these elements. In the case of Mo, V, and W, each exhibited relatively conservative behavior in the upper, oxygenated reaches of all three rivers. During the study period the region experienced a prolonged drought such that the lower reaches of each river were typified by no flow or stagnant waters and probably low oxygen and/or anoxic conditions (although not measured). Reductive processes occurring in the low flow to stagnant reaches of each river could have led to removal of Mo, V, and W from solution as coprecipitates with Fe monosulfides, or via sorption to Fe oxides/oxyhydroxides and/or organic matter. Boron, however, exhibited essentially no or minor removal from these rivers, and instead was added to each river via B-rich hydrothermal waters (e.g., Steamboat Creek from Steamboat Hot Springs), or by B-rich groundwaters via base-flow during the extensive drought.  相似文献

Summary The new mineral orschallite, Ca3(SO3)2SO4 · 12H2O, was found at the Hannebacher Ley near Hannebach, Eifel, Germany. Crystal structure analysis of the mineral, chemical analysis and water determination on synthetic material gave the composition Ca3(SO3)2SO4 · 12H2O. The mineral crystallizes in space group with a = 11.350(1), c = 28.321(2) Å, V = 3159.7 Å3, Z = 6, Dc = 1.87 Mg/m3, Dm = 1.90(3) Mg/m3. It is uniaxial positive with the optical constants = 1.4941, = 1.4960(4). The strongest lines in the powder pattern are (d-value (Å), I, hkl) 5.73, 100, 1 0 4/8.11, 80, 0 1 2/2.69, 80, 3 0 6/3.63, 60, 1 1 6/3.28, 40, 3 0 0. Refinement of the crystal structure led to a weighted residual of Rw = 0.043 for 600 observed reflections with I > 2(I) and 52 variable parameters.

Zusammenfassung Das neue Mineral Orschallit, Ca3(SO3)2SO4 · 12H2O, wurde in der Hannebacher Ley bei Hannebach, Eifel, Deutschland gefunden. Eine Analyse der Kristallstruktur an einem Einkristall des natürlichen Materials, chemische Analyse und Wasserbestimmung an synthetischem Material ergaben die Zusammensetzung Ca3(SO3)2SO4 · 12H2O. Das Mineral kristallisiert in der Raumgruppe mit a = 11.350(1), c = 28.321(2) Å, V = 3159.7 Å3, Z = 6, Dc = 1.87 Mg/m3, Dm = 1.90(3) Mg/m3. Es ist optisch einachsig mit den optischen Konstanten = 1.4941, = 1.4960(4). Die stärksten Linien des Pulver-diagramms liegen bei (d-Wert (Å), I, hkl) 5.73, 100, 1 0 4/8.11, 80, 0 1 2/2.69, 80, 3 0 6/3.63, 60; 1 1 6/3.28, 40, 3 0 0. Die Verfeinerung der Kristallstruktur ergab einen gewichteten Residualwert Rw = 0.043 für 600 beobachtete Reflexe mit I > 2(I) und 52 variable Parameter.

The World Landslide Forum is a triennial mainstream conference aimed at gathering scientists, stakeholders, policy makers and industry members dealing with the management of landslide risk. The First World Landslide Forum, organised by the International Consortium of Landslides, UNESCO, WMO, FAO, UNISDR, UNU, UNEP, IBRD, UNDP, ICSU, WFEO, KU and the Japan Landslide Society, was held in 2008 at the United Nations University, Tokyo. The First World Landslide Forum adopted the 2008 Tokyo Declaration ‘Strengthening the International Programme on Landslides with UNISDR’. The numerous recent disasters due to landslides show that there is an urgent need to translate science into practical applications to assist communities, governments and disaster-relief organisations avert and mitigate future landslide disasters. For this reason, the explicit theme of the Second World Landslide Forum, being organised for Rome, Italy, for 3–9 October 2011, is to connect landslide scientists with landslide stakeholders in a special landslide forum to align future innovations in landslide science and technology with the future needs of humanity and the environment.  相似文献

We conducted melting experiments on a low MgO (3.29 wt.%) basaltic andesite (54.63 wt.% SiO2) from Westdahl volcano, Alaska, at XH2O = 0.7–1 and fO2 ~ Ni–NiO, at pressures = 0.1–180 MPa and temperatures = 900–1,200 °C. We examine the evolution of the melt along a liquid line of descent during equilibrium crystallization at high H2O and fO2 conditions, starting from a high FeOt/MgO, low MgO basaltic andesite. Ti-magnetite formed on the liquidus regardless of XH2O, followed by clinopyroxene, plagioclase, amphibole, and orthopyroxene. We observe slight but significant differences in the phase stability curves between the XH2O = 1 and 0.7 experiments. Early crystallization of Ti-magnetite and suppression of plagioclase at higher pressures and temperatures resulted in strongly decreasing melt FeOt/MgO with increasing SiO2, consistent with a “calc-alkaline” compositional trend, in agreement with prior phase equilibria studies on basalt at similar H2O and fO2. Our study helps quantify the impact of small amounts of CO2 and high fO2 on the evolution of melts formed during crystallization of a low MgO basaltic andesite magma stored at mid- to shallow crustal conditions. Like the prior studies, we conclude that H2O strongly influences melt evolution trends, through stabilization of Ti-magnetite on the liquidus and suppression of plagioclase at high P–T conditions.  相似文献

This paper presents a combination of seismic imaging, geomorphologic, and tectonic data and an interpretation of the M = 5.1 1980 Arudy earthquake sequence putting in relation the seismicity, the inherited faults, and the geomorphologic (Würm and postwürm) markers in this region of the Pyrenees. Since the anticlockwise rotation of the regional compression axis in Oligocene time, western Pyrenees are under a dextral regime and the resulting motion is accommodated along major inherited E–W dextral strike-slip faults. The Arudy aftershocks sequence is controlled by antecedent horsetail splay faults built at the boundary between two shallow Mesozoic crustal blocks most probably due to their differing rheology. This boundary has played the role of a seismic barrier stopping the E–W slip motion. The Arudy earthquake has reactivated the eastern segment of the main E–W strike-slip fault, while the post-seismic aftershocks correspond to local relaxation processes in normal tectonic behavior.  相似文献
