Based on the genetic algorithms (GAs), a fuzzy sliding mode control (FSMC) method for the building structure is designed in this research. When a fuzzy logic control method is used for a structural system, it is hard to get proper control rules directly, and to guarantee the stability and robustness of the fuzzy control system. Generally, the fuzzy controller combined with sliding mode control is applied, but there is still no criterion to reach an optimal design of the FSMC. In this paper, therefore, we design a fuzzy sliding mode controller for the building structure control system as an optimization problem and apply the optimal searching algorithms and GAs to find the optimal rules and membership functions of the FSMC. The proposed approach has the merit to determine the optimal structure and the inference rules of fuzzy sliding mode controller simultaneously. It is found that the building structure under the proposed control method could sustain in safety and stability when the system is subjected to external disturbances. Conventional shake tables employ linear controllers such as proportional‐integral‐derivative or loop shaping to regulate the movement. However, it is difficult to tune a linear controller to achieve accurate and robust tracking of different reference signals under payloads. The challenges are mainly due to the nonlinearity in hydraulic actuator dynamics and specimen behavior. Moreover, tracking a high‐frequency reference signal using a linear controller tends to cause actuator saturation and instability. In this paper, a hierarchical control strategy is proposed to develop a high‐performance shake table. A unidirectional shake table is constructed at the University of British Columbia to implement and evaluate the proposed control framework, which consists of a high‐level controller and one or multiple low‐level controller(s). The high‐level controller utilizes the sliding mode control (SMC) technique to provide robustness to compensate for model nonlinearity and uncertainties experienced in experimental tests. The performance of the proposed controller is compared with a state‐of‐the‐art loop‐shaping displacement‐based controller. The experimental results show that the proposed hierarchical shake table control system with SMC can provide superior displacement, velocity and acceleration tracking performance and improved robustness against modeling uncertainty and nonlinearities. A semi‐active fuzzy control strategy for seismic response reduction using a magnetorheological (MR) damper is presented. When a control method based on fuzzy set theory for a structure with a MR damper is used for vibration reduction of a structure, it has an inherent robustness, and easiness to treat the uncertainties of input data from the ground motion and structural vibration sensors, and the ability to handle the non‐linear behavior of the structure because there is no longer the need for an exact mathematical model of the structure. For a clipped‐optimal control algorithm, the command voltage of a MR damper is set at either zero or the maximum level. However, a semi‐active fuzzy control system has benefit to produce the required voltage to be input to the damper so that a desirable damper force can be produced and thus decrease the control force to reduce the structural response. Moreover, the proposed control strategy is fail‐safe in that the bounded‐input, bounded‐output stability of the controlled structure is guaranteed. The results of the numerical simulations show that the proposed semi‐active control system consisting of a fuzzy controller and a MR damper can be beneficial in reducing seismic responses of structures. In most of the research work on structural vibration control only two‐dimensional plane structural modelling has been considered, although only a few practical building structures can be modelled as planar structures. Therefore, these methods are not directly applicable to the majority of the practical building structures. This paper discusses the design of a multiobjective optimal fuzzy logic controller (FLC) driven hybrid mass damper (HMD) system for seismically excited torsionally coupled building structures. Floor acceleration and velocity information have been used as feedback to the fuzzy logic controller. A three branch tournament Genetic Algorithm has been used for the multiobjective optimal design of the FLC driven HMD system, where the minimization of the non‐dimensionalized peak displacement, acceleration and rotation of the structure about its vertical axis, have been as the three objective functions. The proposed multiobjective optimal fuzzy logic controller has been verified for an example problem reported in the literature. This HMD system consists of four HMDs arranged in such a way that the system can control the torsional mode of vibration effectively in addition to the flexure modes of vibration. The discrete‐time variable structure control method for seismically excited linear structures with time delay in control is investigated in this paper. The control system with time delay is first discretized and transformed into standard discrete form which contains no time delay in terms of the time delay being integer and non‐integer times of sampling period, respectively. Then the discrete switching surface is determined using ideal quasi‐sliding mode and discrete controller is designed using the discrete approach‐law reaching condition. The deduced controller and switching surface contain not only the current step of state feedback but also linear combination of some former steps of controls. Numerical simulations are illustrated to verify the feasibility and robustness of the proposed control method. Since time‐delay effect is incorporated in the mathematical model for the structural control system throughout the derivation of the proposed algorithm, system performance and dynamic stability are guaranteed. In this paper, we propose a new actuator control algorithm that achieves the design flexibility, robustness, and tracking accuracy to give real‐time hybrid‐simulation users the power to achieve highly accurate and robust actuator control. The robust integrated actuator control (RIAC) strategy integrates three key control components: loop shaping feedback control based on H optimization, a linear‐quadratic‐estimation block for minimizing noise effect, and a feed‐forward block that reduces small residual delay/lag. The combination of these components provides flexible controller design to accommodate setup limits while preserving the stability of the H algorithm. The efficacy of the proposed strategy is demonstrated through two illustrative case studies: one using large capacity but relatively slow actuator of 2500 kN and the second using a small‐scale fast actuator. Actuator tracking results in both cases demonstrate that the RIAC algorithm is effective and applicable for different setups. Real‐time hybrid‐simulation validation is implemented using a three‐DOF building frame equipped with a magneto‐rheological damper on both setups. Critical non‐structural equipments, including life‐saving equipment in hospitals, circuit breakers, computers, high technology instrumentations, etc., are vulnerable to strong earthquakes, and the failure of these equipments may result in a heavy economic loss. In this connection, innovative control systems and strategies are needed for their seismic protections. This paper presents the performance evaluation of passive and semi‐active control in the equipment isolation system for earthquake protection. Through shaking table tests of a 3‐story steel frame with equipment on the first floor, a magnetorheological (MR)‐damper together with a sliding friction pendulum isolation system is placed between the equipment and floor to reduce the vibration of the equipment. Various control algorithms are used for this semi‐active control studies, including the decentralized sliding mode control (DSMC) and LQR control. 本文针对结构参数非匹配不确定性问题,采用简化滑动模态控制方法.即在滑动面的没计中忽略非匹配不确定性的影响,对一个顶层放置AMD系统的五层弹塑性建筑结构进行了主动控制数值分析.考虑了结构层屈服位移的不确定,数值模拟结果表明,简化方法具有很强的鲁棒性,结构参数相对于期望值的变化幅度为-40%至40%时.简化方法均有很好的控制效果。  相似文献

The neuro‐controller training algorithm based on cost function is applied to a multi‐degree‐of‐freedom system; and a sensitivity evaluation algorithm replacing the emulator neural network is proposed. In conventional methods, the emulator neural network is used to evaluate the sensitivity of structural response to the control signal. To use the emulator, it should be trained to predict the dynamic response of the structure. Much of the time is usually spent on training of the emulator. In the proposed algorithm, however, it takes only one sampling time to obtain the sensitivity. Therefore, training time for the emulator is eliminated. As a result, only one neural network is used for the neuro‐control system. In the numerical example, the three‐storey building structure with linear and non‐linear stiffness is controlled by the trained neural network. The actuator dynamics and control time delay are considered in the simulation. Numerical examples show that the proposed control algorithm is valid in structural control. A control strategy for semi-active friction devices leading to efficient hysteretic dissipaters is proposed. The control algorithm makes the contact force between the sliding surfaces of the damper proportional to the absolute value of the prior local peak of the damper deformation. This control logic leads to a non-linear force–deformation relation that satisfies homogeneity of degree one; this means that, like in a linear viscoelastic damping model, when the deformation is scaled by a constant, the force results are scaled by the same constant. The closed-loop system shows rectangular hysteresis loops which enclose an area proportional to the square of the deformation of the damper. Some characteristics of the dynamic response of structures incorporating this type of semi-active damper are investigated. It is demonstrated that in the case of single-degree-of-freedom models, the period of vibration and decay ratio are independent of the amplitude of vibration. In the case of multi-degree-of-freedom models with this type of nonlinearity, the free-vibration response can exhibit natural modes of vibration. A linearization method is proposed and modelling tools for the delay associated with actuator dynamics and for the flexibility of the brace connecting the damper to the structure are presented. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A photostrictive type of opto-electromechanical actuator activated by high-energy lights can introduce actuation and control effects without hard-wired connections.This paper addresses the controllability aspect in wireless vibration control of plate structures via photostrictive actuators.A modal force index,which has taken into account the mode number,the spatial distribution,and the dimension of the actuator,is chosen as an objective function to determine the optimal locations of photostrictive actuators.A linear methodology is proposed in this paper and the vibration equation is written in the standard state-space form.A binary-coded GA based combined optimal placement and LQR(linear quadratic regulator) control scheme has been incorporated,which maximizes the modal force index,the closed loop damping and minimizes input light intensity to the actuators.In the present method only three weighting factors have been used to search optimal Q and R matrices using GA,which reduces chromosome length and hence minimizes computational time.Numerical results demonstrate that the use of strategically positioned actuator patches can effectively control the fundamental modes that dominate the structural vibration.  相似文献

Structural vibration control using active or passive control strategy is a viable technology for enhancing structural functionality and safety against natural hazards such as strong earthquakes and high wind gusts. Both the active and passive control systems have their limitations. The passive control system has limited capability to control the structural response whereas the active control system depends on external power. The power requirement for active control of civil engineering structures is usually quite high. Thus, a hybrid control system is a viable solution to alleviate some of the limitations. In this paper a multi‐objective optimal design of a hybrid control system for seismically excited building structures has been proposed. A tuned mass damper (TMD) and an active mass driver (AMD) have been used as the passive and active control components of the hybrid control system, respectively. A fuzzy logic controller (FLC) has been used to drive the AMD as the FLC has inherent robustness and ability to handle the non‐linearities and uncertainties. The genetic algorithm has been used for the optimization of the control system. Peak acceleration and displacement responses non‐dimensionalized with respect to the uncontrolled peak acceleration and displacement responses, respectively, have been used as the two objectives of the multi‐objective optimization problem. The proposed design approach for an optimum hybrid mass damper (HMD) system, driven by FLC has been demonstrated with the help of a numerical example. It is shown that the optimum values of the design parameters of the hybrid control system can be determined without specifying the modes to be controlled. The proposed FLC driven HMD has been found to be very effective for vibration control of seismically excited buildings in comparison with the available results for the same example structure but with a different optimal absorber. Sliding base‐isolation systems used in bridges reduce pier drifts, but at the expense of increased bearing displacements under near‐source pulse‐type earthquakes. It is common practice to incorporate supplemental passive non‐linear dampers into the isolation system to counter increased bearing displacements. Non‐linear passive dampers can certainly reduce bearing displacements, but only with increased isolation level forces and pier drifts. The semi‐active controllable non‐linear dampers, which can vary damping in real time, can reduce bearing displacements without further increase in forces and pier drifts; and hence deserve investigation. In this study performance of such a ‘smart’ sliding isolation system, used in a 1:20 scaled bridge model, employing semi‐active controllable magneto‐rheological (MR) dampers is investigated, analytically and experimentally, under several near‐fault earthquakes. A non‐linear analytical model, which incorporates the non‐linearities of sliding bearings and the MR damper, is developed. A Lyapunov control algorithm for control of the MR damper is developed and implemented in shake table tests. Analytical and shake table test results are compared. It is shown that the smart MR damper reduces bearing displacements further than the passive low‐ and high‐damping cases, while maintaining isolation level forces less than the passive high‐damping case. A fuzzy logic based centralized control algorithm for irrigation canals is presented. Purpose of the algorithm is to control downstream discharge and water level of pools in the canal, by adjusting discharge release from the upstream end and gates settings. The algorithm is based on the dynamic wave model (Saint‐Venant equations) inversion in space, wherein the momentum equation is replaced by a fuzzy rule based model, while retaining the continuity equation in its complete form. The fuzzy rule based model is developed on fuzzification of a new mathematical model for wave velocity, the derivational details of which are given. The advantages of the fuzzy control algorithm, over other conventional control algorithms, are described. It is transparent and intuitive, and no linearizations of the governing equations are involved. Tuning of the algorithm and method of computation are explained. It is shown that the tuning is easy and the computations are straightforward. The algorithm provides stable, realistic and robust outputs. The disadvantage of the algorithm is reduced precision in its outputs due to the approximation inherent in the fuzzy logic. Feed back control logic is adopted to eliminate error caused by the system disturbances as well as error caused by the reduced precision in the outputs. The algorithm is tested by applying it to water level control problem in a fictitious canal with a single pool and also in a real canal with a series of pools. 本文针对高层建筑风振控制问题,应用基于遗传算法优化模糊规则库的模糊控制方法,通过MR阻尼器实现减小高层建筑风振反应. 采用双输入、单输出的模糊控制策略, 即以风荷载和其变化率为输入量, 以MR阻尼器所提供的控制力为输出量.利用基于遗传算法的优化的模糊规则库,根据作用模糊子集的推理方法进行模糊推理运算, 并采用常用的重心法进行解模糊处理.以某12层框架结构为例, 进行数值模拟分析,并与优化前的模糊控制策略和LQR最优控制策略进行比较.数值分析结果表明,利用遗传算法使优化模糊规则库得以优化,改善了模糊控制的效果,有效地减小了结构的风振反应.  相似文献

This paper investigates the application of the sliding mode control (SMC) strategies for reducing the dynamic responses of the building structures with base‐isolation hybrid protective system. It focuses on the use of reaching law method, a most attractive controller design approach of the SMC theory, for the development of control algorithms. By using the constant plus proportional rate reaching law and the power rate reaching law, two kinds of hybrid control methods are presented. The compound equation of motion of the base‐isolation hybrid building structures, which is suitable for numerical analysis, has been constructed. The simulation results are obtained for an eight‐storey shear building equipped with base‐isolation hybrid protective system under seismic excitations. It is observed that both the constant plus proportional rate reaching law and the power rate reaching law hybrid control method presented in this paper are quite effective. A systematic and improved design procedure for sliding mode control (SMC) of seismically excited civil structures with saturation problem is provided in this paper. In order to restrict the control force to a certain level, a procedure for determining the upper limits of the control forces for single or multiple control units is proposed based on the design response spectrum of external loads. Further, an efficient procedure using the LQR method for determining sliding surfaces appropriate for different controller types is provided through the parametric evaluation of the dynamic characteristics of sliding surfaces in terms of SMC controller performance. Finally, a systematic design procedure for SMC required to achieve a given performance level is provided and its effectiveness is verified by applying it to multi‐degree‐of‐freedom (MDOF) systems. Traditional control strategies have difficulty handling nonlinear behavior of structures, time variable features and parameter uncertainties of structural control systems under seismic excitation. An off-and-towardsequilibrium (OTE) strategy combined with fuzzy control is presented in this paper to overcome these difficulties. According to the OTE strategy, the control force is designed from the viewpoint of a mechanical relationship between the motions of the structure, the exciting force and the control force. The advantage of the OTE strategy is that it can be used for a variety of control systems. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed strategy, the seismic performance of a three-story shear building with an Active Tendon System (ATS) using a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is studied. The main advantage of the fuzzy controller is its inherent robustness and ability to handle any nonlinear behavior of structures. However, there are no design guidelines to set up the corresponding control rule table for a FLC. Based on the proposed strategy for the FLC, a control rule table associated with the building under study is developed, which then allows formation of a detailed algorithm. The results obtained in this study show that the proposed strategy performs slightly better than the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) strategy, while possessing several advantages over the LQR controller. Consequently, the feasibility and validity of the proposed strategy are verified.  相似文献

提出了使用MR阻尼器(Magnetorheological Damper)作为控制设备,模糊集为基础的半主动控制算法,并运用提出的算法对土木工程结构地震响应进行了振动控制分析.本文方法的优势在于算法自身的鲁棒性、处理非线性问题的能力和不需要结构的精确数学模型,算法需要的输入变量少,可以解决实际工程中结构响应信息难以测量的困难.模糊算法的输出直接控制MR阻尼器的输入电压,控制器的计算非常简单且易于在工程中实现.本文以一个3层框架结构为算例,分析了本文算法与前人研究算法的异同.数值结果表明,本文提出的模糊半主动控制具有较高的效率,可以减小需要的控制力,充分使用了MR阻尼器的输入电压可以调节的功能,使MR阻尼器的功能得到了更好的发挥.  相似文献
