Accurate and high-fidelity finite element (FE) models are in great demand in the design, performance assessment, and life-cycle maintenance of long-span cable-stayed bridges. The structural system of a long-span cable-stayed bridge is often huge in size and complex with many components connected and various materials constituted. Therefore, the FE model of a long-span cable-stayed bridge involves a large number of elements and nodes with many uncertainties. The model updating of the FE model to best represent a real bridge is necessary but very challenging. One of the challenging issues is that the numerical computation needed for searching the global optimum of a large set of structural parameters is so extensive that the existing FE (not surrogate) model-based updating methods cannot fulfill this task. In this study, a cluster computing-aided FE model updating framework is proposed for the high-performance FE model updating of large and complex structures. In the framework, several computer software packages, including MSC.Marc, Python, and MATLAB, are interconnected for making use of their respective functions of strength. The shake table test of a scaled physical structure of the Sutong cable-stayed bridge in China is used to validate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed framework. The simulated bridge responses based on the updated FE model are in good agreement with the measured ones from the shake table test. The successful application of the proposed framework provides a reference for the model updating of other types of large and complex structures.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel nonlinear finite element (FE) model updating framework, in which advanced nonlinear structural FE modeling and analysis techniques are used jointly with the extended Kalman filter (EKF) to estimate time‐invariant parameters associated to the nonlinear material constitutive models used in the FE model of the structural system of interest. The EKF as a parameter estimation tool requires the computation of structural FE response sensitivities (total partial derivatives) with respect to the material parameters to be estimated. Employing the direct differentiation method, which is a well‐established procedure for FE response sensitivity analysis, facilitates the application of the EKF in the parameter estimation problem. To verify the proposed nonlinear FE model updating framework, two proof‐of‐concept examples are presented. For each example, the FE‐simulated response of a realistic prototype structure to a set of earthquake ground motions of varying intensity is polluted with artificial measurement noise and used as structural response measurement to estimate the assumed unknown material parameters using the proposed nonlinear FE model updating framework. The first example consists of a cantilever steel bridge column with three unknown material parameters, while a three‐story three‐bay moment resisting steel frame with six unknown material parameters is used as second example. Both examples demonstrate the excellent performance of the proposed parameter estimation framework even in the presence of high measurement noise. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this study, we determine an updated finite element model of a reinforced concrete building—which was damaged from shaking during 1994 Northridge earthquake—using forced‐vibration test data and a novel model‐updating technique. Developed and verified in the companion paper (viz. BVLSrc, Earthquake Eng. Struct. Dyn. 2006; this issue), this iterative technique incorporates novel sensitivity‐based relative constraints to avoid ill conditioning that results from spatial incompleteness of measured data. We used frequency response functions and natural frequencies as input for the model‐updating problem. These data were extracted from measurements obtained during a white‐noise excitation applied at the roof of the building using a linear inertial shaker. Flexural stiffness values of properly grouped structural members, modal damping ratios, and translational and rotational mass values were chosen as the updating parameters, so that the converged results had direct physical interpretations, and thus, comparisons with common parameters used in seismic design and evaluation of buildings could be made. We investigated the veracity of the updated finite element model by comparing the predicted and measured dynamic responses under a second, and different type of forced (sine‐sweep) vibration, test. These results indicate that the updated model replicates the dynamic behaviour of the building reasonably well. Furthermore, the updated stiffness factors appear to be well correlated with the observed building damage patterns (i.e. their location and severity). Nonlinear finite element (FE) modeling has been widely used to investigate the effects of seismic isolation on the response of bridges to earthquakes. However, most FE models of seismic isolated bridges (SIB) have used seismic isolator models calibrated from component test data, while the prediction accuracy of nonlinear FE models of SIB is rarely addressed by using data recorded from instrumented bridges. In this paper, the accuracy of a state‐of‐the‐art FE model is studied through nonlinear FE model updating (FEMU) of an existing instrumented SIB, the Marga‐Marga Bridge located in Viña del Mar, Chile. The seismic isolator models are updated in 2 phases: component‐wise and system‐wise FEMU. The isolator model parameters obtained from 23 isolator component tests show large scatter, and poor goodness of fit of the FE‐predicted bridge response to the 2010 Mw 8.8 Maule, Chile Earthquake is obtained when most of those parameter sets are used for the isolator elements of the bridge model. In contrast, good agreement is obtained between the FE‐predicted and measured bridge response when the isolator model parameters are calibrated using the bridge response data recorded during the mega‐earthquake. Nonlinear FEMU is conducted by solving single‐ and multiobjective optimization problems using high‐throughput cloud computing. The updated FE model is then used to reconstruct response quantities not recorded during the earthquake, gaining more insight into the effects of seismic isolation on the response of the bridge during the strong earthquake.  相似文献

Aging bridges coupled with increasing traffic loads are producing a severe toll on the nation's infrastructure. This has made it necessary to take a closer look at the health of existing bridges and develop automated damage identification methods if possible. Recent works in the field of structural dynamics have shown that damage detection techniques utilizing parameters like mode shapes, modal frequencies and damping ratios can be used to identify damage in structural systems. It is, however, important to be able to establish a baseline model for the structure first, and then a model updating technique can be utilized to evaluate the condition of the structure from time to time. It is with this goal in mind that the authors have decided to establish the process for obtaining a baseline model for a long span bridge. Based on the actual design drawings of a bridge, finite element (FE) models of the bridge in question are developed using SDRC-IDEAS. Three models of the bridge are simulated using Normal Mode Dynamics solver in SDRC-IDEAS to obtain the modal parameters of interest, in this case the modal frequencies and the mode shapes. A modal assurance criteria (MAC) is utilized to compare the different simulated mode shapes and, finally, the modal frequencies that have been obtained from the FE analysis are compared to frequencies that have been obtained from some preliminary field tests.  相似文献

Model updating issues with high-dimensional and strong-nonlinear optimization processes are still unsolved by most optimization methods.In this study,a hybrid methodology that combines the Gaussian-white-noise-mutation particle swarm optimization(GMPSO),back-propagation neural network(BPNN)and Latin hypercube sampling(LHS)technique is proposed.In this approach,as a meta-heuristic algorithm with the least modification to the standard PSO,GMPSO simultaneously offers convenient programming and good performance in optimization.The BPNN with LHS establishes the meta-models for FEM to accelerate efficiency during the updating process.A case study of the model updating of an actual bridge with no distribution but bounded parameters was carried out using this methodology with two different objective functions.One considers only the frequencies of the main girder and the other considers both the frequencies and vertical displacements of typical points.The updating results show that the methodology is a sound approach to solve an actual complex bridge structure and offers good agreement in the frequencies and mode shapes of the updated model and test data.Based on the shape comparison of the main girder at the finished state with different objective functions,it is emphasized that both the dynamic and static responses should be taken into consideration during the model updating process.  相似文献

This paper describes ambient vibration based seismic evaluation procedure of an isolated highway bridge. The procedure includes finite element modeling, ambient vibration testing, finite element model updating and time history analysis. Gülburnu Highway Bridge located on the Giresun–Espiye state highway is selected as a case study. Three dimensional finite element model of the bridge is created by SAP2000 software to determine the dynamic characteristics analytically. Since input force is not measured, Operational Modal Analysis is applied to identify dynamic characteristics. Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition and Stochastic Subspace Identification methods are used to obtain experimental dynamic characteristics. Analytical and experimental dynamic characteristic are compared with each other and finite element model of the bridge is updated by changing of material properties to reduce the differences between the results. Analytical model of the bridge after model updating is analyzed using 1992 Erzincan earthquake record to determine the seismic behavior. EW, NS and UP components of the ground motion are applied to the bridge at the longitudinal, transverse and vertical directions, respectively. It is demonstrated that the ambient vibration measurements are enough to identify the most significant modes of highway bridges. Maximum differences between the natural frequencies are reduced averagely from 9% to 2% by model updating. It is seen from the earthquake analyses that friction pendulum isolators are very effective in reducing the displacements and internal forces.  相似文献

A reliable computational model is necessary for evaluating the state and predicting the future performance of existing structures, especially after exposure to damaging effects such as an earthquake. A major problem with the existing iterative‐based model updating methods is that the search might be trapped in local optima. The genetic algorithms (GAs) offer a desirable alternative because of their ability in performing a robust search for the global optimal solution. This paper presents a GA‐based model updating approach using a real‐coding scheme for global model updating based on dynamic measurement data. An eigensensitivity method is employed to further fine‐tune the GA updated results in case the sensitivity problem arises due to restricted measurement information. The application on shear‐type frames reveals that with a limited amount of modal data, namely the lowest three natural frequencies and the first mode shape, it is possible to achieve satisfactory updating by the GA alone for cases involving a limited number of parameters (storey stiffness herein). With the incorporation of the eigensensitivity algorithm, the updating capability is extended to a sufficiently large number of parameters. In case the modal data contain errors, the GA is also shown to be able to update the model to a satisfactory accuracy, provided the required amount of modal data is available. An example is given in which a 6‐DOF stick model for an actual six‐storey RC frame is updated using the measured dynamic properties. 建立了基于正交实验的响应面模型和精细有限元模型,并将其用于中华大桥的有限元模型修正,通过实测动力数据对修正后的有限元模型计算结果进行了验证。基于修正后的有限元模型,分析了预应力对预应力钢筋混凝土桥梁模态信息(频率和振型)的影响,以及单元类型对桥梁模态频率的影响。结果表明,修正后的有限元模型能够比较准确地反映桥梁实际结构的动力特性,基于响应面模型和遗传算法的修正方法可有效地用于大桥的健康监测和状态评估;预应力对预应力钢筋混凝土桥梁模态信息的影响较小,建模时可不予精确考虑;对于由多根预应力混凝土梁组成的桥梁体系,采用实体单元分析较好。  相似文献

Although a detailed finite element(FE) model provides more precise results, a lumped-mass stick(LMS) model is preferred because of its simplicity and rapid computational time. However, the reliability of LMS models has been questioned especially for structures dominated by higher modes and seismic inputs. Normally, the natural frequencies and dynamic responses of a LMS model based on tributary area mass consideration are different from the results of the FE model. This study proposes a basic updating technique to overcome these discrepancies; the technique employs the identical modal response, D(t), to the detailed FE model. The parameter D(t) is a time variable function in the dynamic response composition and it depends on frequency and damping ratio for each mode, independent of the structure's mode shapes. The identical response D(t) for each mode is obtained from the frequency adaptive LMS model; the adaptive LMS model which can provide identical modal frequencies as the detailed FE model. Theoretical backgrounds and formulations of the updating technique are proposed. To validate the updating technique, two types of structures(a symmetric straight column and an unsymmetric T-shaped structure) are considered. From the seismic response results including base shear and base moment, the updating technique considerably improves the seismic response accuracy of the tributary area-based LMS model.  相似文献

A statistical method with combined uncertain frequency and mode shape data for structural damage identification is proposed. By comparing the measured vibration data before damage or analytical finite element model of the intact structure with those measured after damage, the finite element model is updated so that its vibration characteristic changes are equal to the changes in the measured data as closely as possible. The effects of uncertainties in both the measured vibration data and finite element model are considered as random variables in model updating. The statistical variations of the updated finite element model are derived with perturbation method and Monte Carlo technique. The probabilities of damage existence in the structural members are then defined. The proposed method is applied to a laboratory tested steel cantilever beam and frame structure. The results show that all the damages are identified correctly with high probabilities of damage existence. Hybrid simulation combines numerical and experimental methods for cost‐effective, large‐scale testing of structures under simulated earthquake loading. Structural system level response can be obtained by expressing the equation of motion for the combined experimental and numerical substructures, and solved using time‐stepping integration similar to pure numerical simulations. It is often assumed that a reliable model exists for the numerical substructures while the experimental substructures correspond to parts of the structure that are difficult to model. A wealth of data becomes available during the simulation from the measured experiment response that can be used to improve upon the numerical models, particularly if a component with similar structural configuration and material properties is being tested and subjected to a comparable load pattern. To take advantage of experimental measurements, a new hybrid test framework is proposed with an updating scheme to update the initial modeling parameters of the numerical model based on the instantaneously‐measured response of the experimental substructures as the test progresses. Numerical simulations are first conducted to evaluate key algorithms for the selection and calibration of modeling parameters that can be updated. The framework is then expanded to conduct actual hybrid simulations of a structural frame model including a physical substructure in the laboratory and a numerical substructure that is updated during the tests. The effectiveness of the proposed framework is demonstrated for a simple frame structure but is extendable to more complex structural behavior and models. Structural identification based on measured dynamic data is formulated in a multi‐objective context that allows the simultaneous minimization of the various objectives related to the fit between measured and model predicted data. Thus, the need for using arbitrary weighting factors for weighting the relative importance of each objective is eliminated. For conflicting objectives there is no longer one solution but rather a whole set of acceptable compromise solutions, known as Pareto solutions, which are optimal in the sense that they cannot be improved in any objective without causing degradation in at least one other objective. The strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm is used to estimate the set of Pareto optimal structural models and the corresponding Pareto front. The multi‐objective structural identification framework is presented for linear models and measured data consisting of modal frequencies and modeshapes. The applicability of the framework to non‐linear model identification is also addressed. The framework is illustrated by identifying the Pareto optimal models for a scaled laboratory building structure using experimentally obtained modal data. A large variability in the Pareto optimal structural models is observed. It is demonstrated that the structural reliability predictions computed from the identified Pareto optimal models may vary considerably. The proposed methodology can be used to explore the variability in such predictions and provide updated structural safety assessments, taking into consideration all Pareto structural models that are consistent with the measured data. The problem of identification of the modal parameters of a structural model using measured ambient response time histories is addressed. A Bayesian spectral density approach (BSDA) for modal updating is presented which uses the statistical properties of a spectral density estimator to obtain not only the optimal values of the updated modal parameters but also their associated uncertainties by calculating the posterior joint probability distribution of these parameters. Calculation of the uncertainties of the identified modal parameters is very important if one plans to proceed with the updating of a theoretical finite element model based on modal estimates. It is found that the updated PDF of the modal parameters can be well approximated by a Gaussian distribution centred at the optimal parameters at which the posterior PDF is maximized. The problem of updating a structural model and its associated uncertainties by utilizing structural response data is addressed. In an identifiable case, the posterior probability density function (PDF) of the uncertain model parameters for given measured data can be approximated by a weighted sum of Gaussian distributions centered at a number of discrete optimal values of the parameters at which some positive measure‐of‐fit function is minimized. The present paper focuses on the problem of model updating in the general unidentifiable case for which certain simplifying assumptions available for identifiable cases are not valid. In this case, the PDF is distributed in the neighbourhood of an extended and usually highly complex manifold of the parameter space that cannot be calculated explicitly. The computational difficulties associated with calculating the highly complex posterior PDF are discussed and a new adaptive algorithm, referred to as the tangential‐projection (TP) algorithm, allowing for an efficient approximate representation of the above manifold and the posterior PDF is presented. Using this approximation, expressions for calculating the uncertain predictive response are established. A numerical example involving noisy data is presented to demonstrate the proposed method. The rigid central buckle employed in the Runyang Suspension Bridge (RSB) was the first time it was used in a suspension bridge in China. By using a spectral representation method and FFT technique combined with measured data,a 3D fluctuating wind field considering the tower wind effect is simulated. A novel FE model for buffeting analysis is then presented,in which a specific user-defined Matrix27 element in ANSYS is employed to simulate the aeroelastic forces and its stiffness or damping matrices are parameterized by wind velocity and vibration frequency. A nonlinear time history analysis is carried out to study the influence of the rigid central buckle on the wind-induced buffeting response of a long-span suspension bridge. The results can be used as a reference for wind resistance design of long-span suspension bridges with a rigid central buckle in the future.  相似文献

We have developed a practical approach for updating the velocity of PS converted waves based on the inverse normal‐moveout common‐image‐point gather obtained from prestack Kirchhoff time migration. We have integrated all the steps involved in updating the migration velocity model into an interactive tool and have applied this approach to a real seismic data set from the Alba Field in the North Sea. Based on experience in handling the real data, we discuss various practical aspects of updating the velocity model, including: what kind of initial velocity model should be used; which parameters in the velocity model should be updated; and how to update them. Application of prestack Kirchhoff time migration to the data set using the updated velocity model produces an improved image of the Alba Field.  相似文献

The nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis has been widely used in the design and analysis of structural or geotechnical systems. The response sensitivities (or gradients) to the model parameters are of significant importance in these realistic engineering problems. However the sensitivity calculation has lagged behind, leaving a gap between advanced FE response analysis and other research hotspots using the response gradient. The response sensitivity analysis is crucial for any gradient-based algorithms, such as reliability analysis, system identification and structural optimization. Among various sensitivity analysis methods, the direct differential method (DDM) has advantages of computing efficiency and accuracy, providing an ideal tool for the response gradient calculation. This paper extended the DDM framework to realistic complicated soil-foundation-structure interaction (SFSI) models by developing the response gradients for various constraints, element and materials involved. The enhanced framework is applied to three-dimensional SFSI system prototypes for a pile-supported bridge pier and a pile-supported reinforced concrete building frame structure, subjected to earthquake loading conditions. The DDM results are verified by forward finite difference method (FFD). The relative importance (RI) of the various material parameters on the responses of SFSI system are investigated based on the DDM response sensitivity results. The FFD converges asymptotically toward the DDM results, demonstrating the advantages of DDM (e.g., accurate, efficient, insensitive to numerical noise). Furthermore, the RI and effects of the model parameters of structure, foundation and soil materials on the responses of SFSI systems are investigated by taking advantage of the sensitivity analysis results. The extension of DDM to SFSI systems greatly broaden the application areas of the d gradient-based algorithms, e.g. FE model updating and nonlinear system identification of complicated SFSI systems.  相似文献

介绍了福建泉州后渚大桥——大跨度预应力混凝土连续刚构桥的现场环境振动实验.并利用频域中的单模态识别法(SDOFI)、峰值法(PP)和时域中的随机子空间识别法(SSI)分别进行桥梁动力特性识别。利用ANSYS建立了全桥三维有限元模型并进行了理论模态分析,基于参数分析和环境振动测试结果对有限元模型进行了标定,建立了该桥的基准有限元模型,该模型可服务于桥梁长期健康监测与状态评估。  相似文献

Ambient accelerations due to dynamic excitation by wind and traffic were measured on the deck, towers, cables and hangers of the Fatih suspension bridge. From these measurements it was possible to obtain natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios for vertical, lateral, torsional and associated modes in the deck and tower up to a maximum of 2 Hz. The objective of the test was to validate the mathematical modelling used in seismic analyses of the bridge. The agreement between the experimental and theoretical modes was acceptable for vertical modes below 1 Hz, and for torsional modes, but it was difficult to identify the lateral modes due to low levels of response. The dynamic behaviour of this bridge and two other major European suspension bridges is discussed in relation to the differences in loading and structural design.  相似文献
