This paper is based on 2MASS photometry (J H Ks magnitudes) of 1172 Be stars. The observed mean intrinsic colours have been derived with aid of two‐colour diagrams for Be stars of luminosity classes Ie‐IIe, IIIe and IVe‐Ve. The obtained results are the first determinations of their intrinsic colours in the astronomical literature. The smoothed infrared colours are compared with those obtained for “normal” B stars. Several two‐colour diagrams and plots of observed and smoothed intrinsic colour versus spectral type of luminosity classes Ie‐IIe, IIIe and IVe‐Ve are presented. Generally the determined infrared intrinsic colours of Be stars (VJ)0, (VH)0, and (VKs)o differ substantially from those of “normal” B stars. It is found that the intrinsic colours of B stars are generally bluer than Be stars of corresponding spectral type and luminosity class. The mean absolute visual magnitude Mv of 528 Be stars for luminosity classes Iae, Ibe‐Iabe, IIe, IIIe and IVe‐Ve is derived from HIPPARCOS parallaxes. The Mv calibration is compared with the existing ones. The Be stars are generally brighter than “normal” B stars of corresponding spectral types. (© 2015 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. BUSS observations of the profiles of two well observed spectral lines in the ultraviolet spectrum of CMi (Procyon; F5 IV–V) are analysed with a Fourier transform method in order to determine values of various parameters of the velocity field of the upper photosphere. We find a microturbulent line-of-sight velocity componentL = 0.9 ± 0.4 km s–1, a macroturbulent velocity componentL M = 5.3 ± 0.2 km s–1, and a rotational velocity componentv R sini=10.0±1.2 km s–1. In these calculations a single-moded sinusoidal isotropic macroturbulent velocity function was assumed. The result appears to be sensitive to the assumed shape of the macroturbulence function: for an assumed Gaussian shape the observations can be described withv R sini=4 km s–1 andL M = 11.6 ± 2.7 km s–1. A comparison is made with other results and theoretical predictions.  相似文献

ISOGAL is a survey at 7 and 15 μm with ISOCAM of the inner galactic disk and bulge of our Galaxy. The survey covers ∼ 22 deg2 in selected areas of the centrall = ±30 degree of the inner Galaxy. In this paper, we report the study of a small ISOGAL field in the inner galactic bulge (l = 0°,b = −1°, area = 0.033deg2). Using the multicolor nearinfrared data (IJKs) of DENIS (DEep Near Infrared Southern Sky Survey) and mid-infrared ISOGAL data, we discuss the nature of the ISOGAL sources. The various color-color and color-magnitude diagrams are discussed in the paper. While most of the detected sources are red giants (RGB tip stars), a few of them show an excess in J-Ks and Ks-[15] colors with respect to the red giant sequence. Most of them are probably AGB stars with large mass-loss rates.  相似文献

The consequences of gas-liquid phase transitions in the core of hot white dwarf stars are discussed. Expressions for the latent heat and the liquefaction curveT l =T l (Q) are obtained. Then amodel for a hot white dwarf is introduced and the corresponding liquefaction sequences are built on the H-R diagram; relations luminosity-central temperature and effective temperature-central temperature are also given for liquefying white dwarfs. Finally the cooling curves are obtained for such stars taking into account the effect of latent heat emission. Our results seem to suggest a possible identification of the central stars of planetary nebulae as hot liquefying white dwarfs.  相似文献

We have redetermined the kinematic parameters of the Gould Belt using currently available data on the motion of nearby young (log t < 7.91) open clusters, OB associations, and moving stellar groups. Our modeling shows that the residual velocities reach their maximum values of ?4 km s?1 for rotation (in the direction of Galactic rotation) and +4 km s?1 for expansion at a distance from the kinematic center of ≈300 pc. We have taken the following parameters of the Gould Belt center: R 0 = 150 pc and l 0 = 128°. The whole structure is shown to move relative to the local standard of rest at a velocity of 10.7 ± 0.7 km s?1 in the direction l = 274° ± 4° and b = ?1° ± 3°. Using the derived rotation velocity, we have estimated the virial mass of the Gould Belt to be 1.5 × 106 M .  相似文献

Internal models have been obtained for uniformly rotating synchronous close binary systems using a modified double approximation scheme. We have considered primaries of 10M , 5M , and 2M with mass ratios of 0.0 to 1.0 in steps of 0.1, and some results are given for a 1M primary with a mass ratio of 1.0. A maximum luminosity reduction of 2.3% was found for a 10M primary with a mass ratio of 1.0 and 7.7% for a mass ratio of 0.0. The corresponding values for 5M are 2.0% and 7.0%, and for 2M they are 1.6% and 5.3%, respectively. These values were not found to be sensitive to small changes in composition. The maximum equatorial velocity varies from 399 km s–1 for 2M to 567 km s–1 for 10M when the mass ratio is zero, but these velocities decrease by 200–300 km s–1 if the mass ratio is unity. The effect of gravity darkening on the apparent position of the primary in the theoretical H-R diagram was investigated. It was determined that an unresolved close binary of unit mass ratio can lie up to 0.9 magnitudes (depending on inclination) above the main sequence, whereas if the effects of distortion are ignored this number is at most 0.75 magnitudes. There seems to be some observational support for the larger value. Two models of the secondaries are given and their dimensions are compared with their critical Roche lobes.  相似文献

We investigate numerically the chemodynamical evolution of major disc–disc galaxy mergers in order to explore the origin of the mass-dependent chemical, photometric and spectroscopic properties observed in elliptical galaxies. We investigate especially the dependence of the fundamental properties on merger progenitor disc mass (M d). Three main results are obtained in this study:– More massive (luminous) ellipticals formed by galaxy mergers between more massive spirals have higher metallicity (Z) and thus show redder colours; the typical metallicity ranges from ∼ 1.0 solar abundance (Z∼ 0.02) for ellipticals formed by mergers with M d = 1010 M to ∼ 2.0 solar (Z∼ 0.04) for those with M d= 1012 M .– Both the Mg2 line index in the central part of ellipticals (R ≤ 0.1 R e) and the radial gradient of Mg2 (δ Mg2 / δ log R) are more likely to be larger for massive ellipticals. δ Mg2 / δ log R correlates reasonably well with the central Mg2 in ellipticals. For most of the present merger models, ellipticals show a positive radial gradient of the Hβ line index. – Both M/L B and M/L K (where M, L B, and L K are the total stellar mass of galaxy mergers, the B-band and the K-band luminosities, respectively) depend on galactic mass in such a way that more massive ellipticals have larger M/L B and smaller M/L K. The regions of quasi-periodic motion around non-symmetric periodic orbits in the vicinity of the triangular equilibrium points are studied numerically. First, for a value of the mass parameter less than Routh's critical value, the stability regions determined by quasi-periodic motion are examined around the existing families of short (Ls 4) and long (Ll 4) period solutions. Then, for two values of μ greater than the Routh value, the unified family Lsl 4, to which, in these cases, Ls 4 and Ll 4 merge, is considered. It is found that such regions surround in general the linearly stable segments of the corresponding families and become smaller as the mass ratio increases. We investigated the lower mass limitM l for the carbon detonation supernovae by testing the dynamical instability of the envelopes of red supergiants. It was found that the dependence ofM l on the mixing lengthl of convection is appreciable. As a smaller value ofl is assumed,M l becomes larger. It may be as large as 8M ifl is a third of the pressure scale-height. This is one of the ways to remove the difficulty of overproduction of iron-peak elements involved in the model of the carbon detonation supernovae.  相似文献

The age difference between the oldest Population I stars and the extreme Population II stars is investigated by comparison of observational H-R diagrams with theoretical results using the common input physics and computer program for both Populations. Chemical compositions adopted for Population I and II stars are,X=0.7 andZ=0.02, andX=2×10–4, respectively. Evidence collected indicates that the open cluster NGC 188 and the globular cluster M92 are the representative samples of the oldest Population I and extreme Population II stars, respectively. Comparison between the observed H-R diagrams and theoretical isochrones in terms of the luminosity of the subgiant region and the turnoff point for NGC 188 and M92, respectively, then suggests that there is a significant age difference between Population I and II objects. The uncertainty of the oxygen abundance in the extreme Population II stars and its effect on their age determination is briefly discussed.  相似文献

The spectral energy distributions between λ 3700 Å and λ 8100 Å of the binary systems COU1289 and COU1291 have been measured with the Carl‐Zeiss‐Jena 1 m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory. Their B, V, R magnitudes and BV colour indices were computed and compared with earlier investigations. Model atmospheres of both systems were constructed using a grid of Kurucz blanketed models, their spectral energy distributions in the continuous spectrum were computed and compared with the observational ones. The model atmosphere parameters for the components of COU1289 were derived as: T aeff = 7100 K, T beff = 6300 K, log g a = 4.22, log g b = 4.22, R a = 1.50 R, R b = 1.40 R, and for the components of COU1291 as: T aeff = 6400 K, T beff = 6100 K, log g a = 4.20, log g b = 4.35, R a = 1.47 R, R b = 1.12 R. The spectral types of both components of the system COU1289 were concluded as F1 and F7, and of the system COU1291 as F6 and F9. Finally the formation and evolution of the systems were discussed. Synthetic light curve solutions for the W UMa-system VW Cep have been determined by applying the most new version of Wilson (1998)approach to B-observations of 1996 and VRI-observations of 1999. From a consideration of the possible evolution of this system, it is found that the system is a partial eclipsing contact one, and its primary to be a nearly Main-Sequence F5 star of mass 0.85 M and the secondary to be a dwarf of spectral type G0 of mass 0.34 M . The dynamical mass of a star cluster can be derived from the virial theorem, using the measured half-mass radius and line-of-sight velocity dispersion of the cluster. However, this dynamical mass may be a significant overestimation of the cluster mass if the contribution of the binary orbital motion is not taken into account. Here, we describe the mass overestimation as a function of cluster properties and binary population properties, and briefly touch on the issue of selection effects. We find that for clusters with a measured velocity dispersion of σ los?10 km?s?1 the presence of binaries does not affect the dynamical mass significantly. For clusters with σ los?1 km?s?1 (i.e., low-density clusters), the contribution of binaries to σ los is significant, and may result in a major dynamical mass overestimation. The presence of binaries may introduce a downward shift of Δlog?(L V /M dyn)=0.05–0.4 (in solar units) in the log?(L V /M dyn) versus age diagram.  相似文献

A study of pulsational properties with evolution has been done for a 15.6M star withX e =0.90 andY e =0.08. Pulsational properties in the hydrogen-burning stages have been compared with those in helium-burning stages. A comparison with observed characteristics of Cepheids, classical Cepheids and supergiant variables has been made during the course of its evolution. In addition, models of 5,9 and 15M withX e =0.708,Y e =0.272 have also been studied for pulsational properties during the helium burning stage. It is also seen that pulsational instability is sensitive to changes in initial chemical composition and opacity parameters,n ands. A low helium abundance could be a reason for the stability of the models, even when lying in the instability strip of the H-R diagram.  相似文献

SeveralN-body experiments were performed in order to simulate the dynamical behaviour of systems of galaxies gravitationally dominated by a massive dark background. We discuss mass estimates from the dynamics of the luminous component (M VT) under the influence of such a background, assuming a constant dark/luminous mass ratio (M D/M L) and plausible physical conditions. We extend in this way previous studies (Smith, 1980, 1984) about the dependence ofM VT on the relative distributions of dark and luminous matter (Limber, 1959). We found that the observed ratio of the virial theorem mass to luminosity (M VT/L) in systems of galaxies of different sizes could be the result of different stages of their post-virialisation evolution as was previously suggested by White and Rees (1978) and Barnes (1983). This evolution is mainly the result of the dynamical friction that dark matter exerts on the luminous component. Thus our results give support to the idea that compact groups of galaxies are dynamically more evolved than large clusters, which is expected from the hierarchical clustering picture for the formation of such structures.  相似文献

From accurate radial‐velocity measurements covering 11 circuits of the orbit of the composite‐spectrum binary 45 Cnc, together with high‐resolution spectroscopy spanning nearly 3 circuits, we have (i) isolated cleanly the spectrum of the early‐type secondary, (ii) classified the component spectra as G8 III and A3 III, (iii) derived the first double‐lined orbit for the system and a mass ratio (M1/M2) of 1.035 ± 0.01, and (iv) extracted physical parameters for the component stars, deriving the masses and (log) luminosities of the G star and A star as 3.11 and 3.00 M, and 2.34 and 2.28 L, respectively, with corresponding uncertainties of ±0.10 M and ±0.09 L. Since the mass ratio is close to unity, we argue that the more evolved component is unlikely to have been a red giant long enough to have made multiple ascents of the RGB, an argument that is supported somewhat by the rather high eccentricity of the orbit (e = 0.46) and the evolutionary time‐scales of the two components, but chiefly by the presence of significant Li I in the spectrum of the cool giant. Study of curve of growth abundance determinations is performed for the method of weighting functions. We evaluated abundances of iron for 15 stars changing their effective temperatures and gravities within the mean error of determination of these parameters, i.e.θ eff ± 0.05θ eff and logg ± 0.5. Wide range of spectral types of stars taken into account, permits analysis of accuracy of abundance determinations for large part of H-R diagram. The results prove, that in spite of using the most accurate method of curve of growth analysis, the accuracy of abundance determination (due to errors inT eff and log g) is sometimes very small (in extreme cases not better than 0.4 dex) and the value of accuracy is connected with of spectral types of stars.  相似文献

Equations for critical angles and areas that make it possible to get an idea about the configurations of the observed systems and calculate their spectral energy distributions (SEDs) in accordance with their geometrical parameters and the angles of the disc inclination toward the observer are obtained. SEDs have been calculated for the substar (M * = 0.02 M ) with the disc (R out = 8 a.u.) located 10 pc away and tilted at the angles of 0°, 20°, ..., 80° toward the observer. Six observation fluxes from the starts with the IR excesses (usco 128, usd160603, usd161005, usd161103, usd161916, and usd161939) entering the Upper Scorpius star forming region have been approximated using the developed algorithms for calculating SEDs of systems.  相似文献

Analysis of the available observational data for the α-Persei cluster members shows that rotation effects on the intermediate-band indices c1 and (u-b) are considerable. In c1, rotation produces a reddening of 0.040 magnitudes per 100 km s-1 In (u-b) the effect for B stars is found to be 0.06 magnitudes per 100 km s-1 ofV sin i. The binaries and peculiar stars are found to behave differently in the colour excess (due to rotation) versusV sin i diagrams. These empirical effects can be utilised to recalibrate these colour indices and also to separate members that are either chemically peculiar or in binary systems.  相似文献

We present a detailed investigation of X-ray source contents of eight young open clusters with ages between 4 to 46 Myr using archival X-ray data from XMM-Newton. The probable cluster memberships of the X-ray sources have been established on the basis of multi-wavelength archival data, and samples of 152 pre-main sequence (PMS) low mass (<2M ), 36 intermediate mass (2–10M ) and 16 massive (>10M ) stars have been generated. X-ray spectral analyses of high mass stars reveal the presence of high temperature plasma with temperature <2 keV, and mean L X/L bol of 10???6.9. In the case of PMS low mass stars, the plasma temperatures have been found to be in the range of 0.2 keV to 3 keV with a median value of ~1.3 keV, with no significant difference in plasma temperatures during their evolution from 4 to 46 Myr. The X-ray luminosity distributions of the PMS low mass stars have been found to be similar in the young star clusters under study. This may suggest a nearly uniform X-ray activity in the PMS low mass stars of ages ~4–14 Myr. These observed values of L X/L bol are found to have a mean value of 10??3.6±0.4, which is below the X-ray saturation level. The L X/L bol values for the PMS low mass stars are well correlated with their bolometric luminosities, that implies its dependence on the internal structure of the low mass stars. The difference between the X-ray luminosity distributions of the intermediate mass stars and the PMS low mass stars has not been found to be statistically significant. Their L X/L bol values, however have been found to be significantly different from each other with a confidence level greater than 99.999% and the strength of X-ray activity in the intermediate mass stars is found to be lower compared to the low mass stars. However, the possibility of X-ray emission from the intermediate mass stars due to a low mass star in close proximity of the intermediate mass star can not be ruled out.  相似文献
