A topographic model of Saturn's smaller co-orbital satellite Epimetheus was derived from the shapes of limbs, terminators and shadows of the F Ring in Voyager images, modified locally to accommodate large craters and ridges. The model is presented here in tabular and graphic form, including the first detailed shaded relief maps of the satellite. The shape is approximated by a triaxial ellipsoid with axes of 144, 108 and 98 km. The volume is estimated to be 8 ± 1 × 105 km3. A prominent valley and several grooves are found on the heavily cratered surface.  相似文献

A topographic model of Amalthea (JV) was derived from the shapes of limbs and terminators in Voyager images, modified locally to accommodate large craters and ridges. The model is presented in tabular and graphic form, including the first detailed shaded relief maps of the satellite. The shape is very irregular, with radii varying between about 53 and 151 ± 5 km. The minimum value occurs in a deep crater at the south pole. The volume is estimated to be 2.5 ± 0.5 × 106km3. A prominent groove or valley extends some 150 km across the trailing side. High albedo, spectrally distinct markings are mapped and found to have a less obvious relationship with relief than previously suggested.  相似文献

Topographic models of Neptune's small inner satellites Larissa and Proteus were derived from the shapes of limbs and terminators in Voyager images, modified locally to accomodate large craters and ridges. The models are presented here in tabular and graphic form, including the first map of Larissa and the first detailed relief map of Proteus. The shape of Larissa is approximated by a triaxial ellipsoid with axes of 208, 192 and 178 km, but is only weakly constrained by the single available view. The volume is estimated to be 3.5 ± 1.0 × 106 km3. The surface is heavily cratered and may be crossed by one or two poorly seen linear ridges. Proteus is approximated by a triaxial ellipsoid with axes of 424, 390 and 396 km (the latter being the rotation axis dimension). The volume is estimated to be 3.4 ± 0.4 × 107 km3. Its surface appears to be very heavily cratered and extensive evidence for linear fractures is observed despite very low image quality.  相似文献

Topographic models of Saturn's F-Ring shepherd satellites Prometheus and Pandora were derived from the shapes of limbs and terminators in Voyager images, modified locally to accommodate large craters and ridges. The models are presented here in tabular and graphic form, including the first published maps of the satellites. The shape of Prometheus is approximated by a triaxial ellipsoid with axes of 145, 85 and 60 km. The volume is estimated to be 3.9 ± 1.0 × 105 km3, significantly smaller than previous estimates. A system of prominent ridges and valleys cross the north polar region. Prometheus appears to be less heavily cratered than the other small satellites near the edge of the rings, though this may be an artifact of the low resolution of available images. Pandora is approximated by a triaxial ellipsoid with axes of 114, 84 and 62 km. The volume is estimated to be 3.1 ± 1.0 × 105 km3. Its surface appears to be very heavily cratered.  相似文献

We report on Adaptive Optics observations of the satellite of Asteroid 121 Hermione with the ESO-Paranal UT4 VLT and the Keck AO telescopes. The binary system, belonging to the Cybele family, was observed during two observing campaigns in January 2003 and January 2004 aiming to confirm its trajectory and accurately determine its orbital elements. A precessing Keplerian model was used to describe the motion of S/2002 (121) 1. We find that the satellite of Hermione revolves at a=768±11 km from the primary in P=2.582±0.002 days with a roughly circular and prograde orbit (e=0.001±0.001, i=3±2° w.r.t. equator primary). These extensive astrometric measurements enable us to determine the mass of Hermione to be 0.54±0.03×1019 kg and its pole solution (λ0=1.5°±2.00, β0=10°±2.0 in ecliptic J2000). Additional Keck AO observations taken close to the asteroid opposition in December 2003 give us direct insight into the structure of the primary which presents a bilobated shape. Since the angular resolution is limited to the theoretical angular resolution of the telescope (43 mas corresponding to a spatial resolution of 80 km), two shape models (called snowman and peanut) are proposed based on the images which were deconvolved with MISTRAL deconvolution process. Assuming a purely synchronous orbit and knowing the mass of the primary, the peanut shape composed of two separated components is quite unlikely. Additionally the J2 calculated from the analysis of the secondary orbit is not in agreement with the peanut model, but close to the snowman shape. The bulk density of the primary as derived from the observed size of the snowman shape is estimated to ρ∼1.8±0.2 g/cm3 implying a porosity ∼14% for this C-type asteroid, corresponding to a fractured asteroid. Considering the IRAS diameter, the density is lower (ρ=1.1±0.3 g/cm3) leading to a high porosity (p=30-60%) with a nominal value of p=48%, which indicates a completely loose rubble-pile structure for the primary. Further work is necessary to better constrain the size, shape, and then internal structure of Hermione's primary.  相似文献

On August 11, 2004, we made adaptive optics observations of the Uranus and Neptune systems with the Keck II Near Infrared Camera. Uranus and Triton were observed in three broadband filters (J, H, and K-prime) and four narrowband filters [Hcont, FeII, He1_B, and H2(v=1-0)]. Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, and Oberon were observed in the four narrowband filters only. To achieve the highest possible photometric accuracy, and thus the tightest possible constraints on atmospheric aerosol models and gas mixing ratios, we used aperture photometry that accounted for the dependence of point-spread functions and growth curves on the adaptive optics reference object, and accounted for recently determined phase curves of each object. The satellite albedos we determined were compared with published relative spectra to verify the relative consistency of our observations, which were subsequently used to convert published relative spectra to absolute spectra. We used these absolute spectra and synthetic photometry methods to compare published values in dissimilar photometric systems to each other and to our observations. We find our satellite albedos in best agreement with photometry from Karkoschka [Karkoschka, E., 2001. Icarus 151, 51-68], which is the best characterized and most contemporaneous data set. Our estimated absolute accuracy of 5% to 8% is consistent with these intercomparisons. We obtained the following ring-subtracted and discrete feature-free albedos of Uranus: J: (1.66±0.07)×10−2, H: (1.09±0.05)×10−2, K: (2.08±0.15)×10−4, Hcont: (3.71±0.23)×10−2, FeII: (1.14±0.07)×10−3, He1_B: (2.06±0.16)×10−4, and H2: (1.27±0.10)×10−4.  相似文献

I have mapped the Saturnian satellite Hyperion using Voyager 2 images obtained in 1981 and a shape model derived from the results of Thomas et al. (1995). The results are presented in tabular and graphic form, including detailed shaded relief maps of the satellite. The shape is approximated by a triaxial ellipsoid with axes of 270, 201 and 336 km. The volume is estimated to be 9.5 ± 2.0 × 106 km3. Geological interpretations were augmented by the use of super-resolution image composites. The surface is heavily cratered. A system of scarps and an isolated mountain are interpreted as the rim and central peak of an impact crater with a diameter similar to the mean diameter of the satellite itself, the largest crater with recognizable impact morphology in relation to the size of the body yet observed in the solar system. The crater density dates that impact, not the formation of Hyperion. Grooves are identified in several images, and form part of a zone of fracturing radial to a prominent crater.University of Western Ontario  相似文献

We carried out new observations of the binary asteroid 22 Kalliope (S2/2001) with the Shane 3-m telescope of the Lick observatory in October and November 2001. With a FWHM (full width at half maximum) of 0″.2, Kalliope (apparent size of about 0″.15) was not resolved but it was possible to separate the secondary from its primary whose apparent separation was of the order of 0″.7 with a magnitude difference of 3.22±0.20. As each set of observations spanned a few days of time, they are well distributed along the secondary's orbit, enabling us to accurately estimate its orbit. The satellite orbits 22 Kalliope in a prograde manner with respect to Kalliope's rotational spin (which is in a retrograde sense relative to its orbit around the Sun), on a highly inclined (i=19.8±2.0 with respect to the equator of 22 Kalliope) and moderately eccentric orbit (e=0.07±0.02) with an orbital period of 3.58±0.08 days. The semi-major axis is 1020±40 km. Using Kalliope's diameter as determined from IRAS data, the asteroid's bulk density is about 2.03±0.16 g cm−3, suggestive of a highly porous body with a porosity of 70% considering that the grain density of its meteoritic analog is of ∼7.4 g cm−3. This suggests a rubble pile, rather than solid, body. The measured nodal precession rate of the secondary's orbit seems to be much higher than expected from Kalliope's oblateness, assuming a homogeneous body (constant density). This suggests that Kalliope may be 60% more elongated or 35% larger than presently believed or/and that its internal structure is highly inhomogeneous with a denser outer shell.  相似文献

In this paper we study the main features of the far UV spectrum of the binary star AX Mon, observed with the IUE satellite at phase 0.568.Ions indicating a large range of ionization stages, going fromCi,Oi,Ni toSiv,Civ,Nv are present. The spectrum is dominated by shell absorption lines of Feii, Feiii, Siiii,Cii, Alii, Mgii and Niii. Two satellite components are clearly indicated in all these lines except for Niii which presents only one. Their mean velocities are +10±5 km s–1, –75±10 km s–1, and –260±15 km s–1.Red emission wings are observed in the Mgii resonant doublet at 2800 Å, which shows a P Cygni profile. Each of the absorption lines of the Mgii doublet is formed by a narrow component, which is blended with the Mgii interstellar line and a broad component, which shows a complex structure.Broad and asymmetrical profiles are observed for the Siiv,Civ, andNv resonance lines with blue edge velocities about –700±30 km s–1.  相似文献

Observation of the hydrogen corona with SPICAM on Mars Express   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
J.Y. Chaufray  E. Quémerais 《Icarus》2008,195(2):598-613
A series of seven dedicated Lyman-α observations of exospheric atomic hydrogen in the martian corona were performed in March 2005 with the ultraviolet spectrometer SPICAM on board Mars Express. Two types of observations are analyzed, observations at high illumination (for a solar zenith angle SZA equal to 30°) and observations at low illumination (for a solar zenith angle equal to 90° (terminator), and near the south pole). The measured Lyman-α emission is interpreted as purely resonant scattering of solar photons. Because the Lyman-α emission is optically thick, we use a forward model to analyze this data. Below the exobase, the hydrogen density is described by a diffusive model and above the exobase, it follows Chamberlain's approach without satellite particles. For different hydrogen density profiles between 80 and 50,000 km, the volume emission rates are computed by solving the radiative transfer equation. Such an approach has been used to analyze the Mariner 6, 7 exospheric Lyman-α data during the late 1960s. A reasonable fit of the set of observations is obtained assuming an exobase temperature between 200 and 250 K and an exobase density of ∼1-4 × 105 cm−3 in good agreement with photochemical models. However, when considering the average exospheric temperature of 200 K measured by other methods [Leblanc, F., Chaufray, J.Y., Witasse, O., Lilensten, J., Bertaux, J.-L., 2006a. J. Geophys. Res. 111 (E9), doi:10.1029/2005JE002664. E09S11; Leblanc, F., Chaufray, J.-Y., Bertaux, J.-L., 2007. Geophys. Res. Lett. 34, doi:10.1029/2006GL028437. L02206; Bougher, S.W., Engel, S., Roble, R.G., Foster, B., 2000. J. Geophys. Res. 105, 17669-17692; Mazarico, E., Zuber, M.T., Lemoine, F.G., Smith, D.E., 2007. J. Geophys. Res. 112, doi:10.1029/2006JE002734. E05014] a supplementary hot population is needed above the exobase to reconcile Lyman-α measurements with these previous measurements, particularly for the observations at low SZA. In this case, the densities and temperatures at the exobase for the two populations are 1.0±0.2×105 cm−3 and T=200 K and 1.9±0.5×104 cm−3 and T>500 K for the cold and hot populations respectively at low SZA. At high SZA, the densities and temperatures are equal to 2±0.4×105 cm−3 and T=200 K and n=1.2±0.5×104 cm−3 and T>500 K. These high values of the hot hydrogen component are not presently supported by the theory. Moreover, it is important to underline that the two population model remains relatively poorly constrained by the limited range of altitude covered by the present set of SPICAM measurements and cannot be unambiguously identified because of the global uncertainty of our model and of SPICAM measurements. For a one population solution, an average water escape rate of 7.5 × 10−4 precipitable μm/yr is estimated, yielding a lifetime of 13,000 years for the average present water vapor content of 10 precipitable microns.  相似文献

Pyrheliometry, definition of the radiation scale in the International System of Units and monitoring the variability of solar total irradiance have been a focus of research at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory since the mid 1960's. A series of automated, electrically self-calibrating, cavity pyrheliometers known as Active Cavity Radiometers (ACR's) was developed as part of this program. A series of ground based experiments in 1968–69 led to the discovery of a systematic error in the International Pyrheliometric Scale. ACR's were among the instruments used to define the World Radiometric Reference in 1975.ACR flight experiments have been conducted to determine the 1 AU total solar irradiance and monitor its variability in time. A 1969 balloon experiment yielded a 1366 W m-2 result. The value from a 1976 sounding rocket experiment was 1368.1 W m-2. The results for two additional rocket experiments in 1978 and 80, revised in accordance with recent calibrations of ACR response to elevated pressures during these flights are: 1367.6 and 1367.8 W m-2, respectively. An ACR experiment (ACRIM) on the Solar Maximum Mission satellite has shown continuous variability of the total solar flux below the ±0.05% level and two large, temporary decreases of 0.1–0.2% lasting more than a week. The mean 1 AU total flux for ACRIM's first five months' observations was 1367.7 W m-2. Inflight comparison of ACR rocket and satellite measurements in May, 1980 demonstrated agreement to within ±0.05%. The 1 AU total solar irradiance results from ACR rocket and satellite experiments between 1976 and 1980 differ from their mean of 1367.8 W m-2 by no more than ±0.02%. The less precise 1969 balloon result is 0.1% lower. Although no observations were made from 1970–75, if solar behaviour in those five years was similar to that observed since 1976 then the upper limits of long term solar total irradiance variability are ±0.2% for the 1969–1980 period and ±0.1% between 1976 and 1980, based on the set of ACR observations.Proceedings of the 14th ESLAB Symposium on Physics of Solar Variations, 16–19 September 1980, Scheveningen, The Netherlands.  相似文献

Using the archival ROSAT PSPC observations, AB Dor is found to be variable in X-rays. The periodic variations are consistent with previously reported rotational period of 0 d .514. The average spectrum of AB Dor is best represented with two-temperature Raymond-Smith model with kT values of 0.19±0.07 and 1.17±0.02 keV. The quiescent luminosity of the system is found to be 4.36±0.6×1030 ergs s–1. A flare with a rise time of 350 seconds is detected during which X-ray luminosity rises from 5.8±1.6×1030 to 15.8±4.9×1030 ergs s–1. We conclude that AB Dor is very similar to the active components of RS CVn binaries and other active classes. In view of the wide separation from the binary companion Rst 137B, this activity must be intrinsic to the active star.  相似文献

Observations of H2O rotational lines from the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) and the Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS) and of the CO2 ν2 band by ISO are analyzed jointly to determine the origin of water vapor and carbon dioxide in Jupiter's stratosphere. Simultaneous modelling of ISO/LWS and ISO/SWS observations acquired in 1997 indicates that most of the stratospheric jovian water is restricted to pressures less than 0.5±0.2 mbar, with a disk-averaged column density of (2.0±0.5)×1015 cm−2. Disk-resolved observations of CO2 by ISO/SWS reveal latitudinal variations of the CO2 abundance, with a decrease of at least a factor of 7 from mid-southern to mid-northern latitudes, and a disk-center column density of (3.4±0.7)×1014 cm−2. These results strongly suggest that the observed H2O and CO2 primarily result from the production, at midsouthern latitudes, of oxygenated material in the form of CO and H2O by the Shoemaker-Levy 9 (SL9) impacts in July 1994 and subsequent chemical and transport evolution, rather than from a permanent interplanetary dust particle or satellite source. This conclusion is supported by quantitative evolution model calculations. Given the characteristic vertical mixing times in Jupiter's stratosphere, material deposited at ∼0.1 mbar by the SL9 impacts is indeed expected to diffuse down to the ∼0.5 mbar level after 3 years. A coupled chemical-horizontal transport model indicates that the stability of water vapor against photolysis and conversion to CO2 is maintained over typically ∼50 years by the decrease of the local CO mixing ratio associated with horizontal spreading. A model with an initial (i.e., SL9-produced) H2O/CO mass mixing ratio of 0.07, not inconsistent with immediate post-impact observations, matches the observed H2O abunda nce and CO2 horizontal distribution 3 years after the impacts. In contrast, the production of CO2 from SL9-produced CO and a water component deriving from an interplanetary dust component is insufficient to account for the observed CO2 amounts. The observations can further be used to place a stringent upper limit (8×104 cm−2 s−1) on the permanent water influx into Jupiter. This may indicate that the much larger flux observed at Saturn derives dominantly from a ring source, or that the ablation of micrometeoroids leads dominantly to different species at Saturn (H2O) and Jupiter (CO). Finally, the SWAS H2O spectra do not appear fully consistent with the ISO data and should be confirmed by future ODIN and Herschel observations.  相似文献

Measurements of charged particle fluxes at energies >-13 MeV (if protons), by means of a detector system of high geometrical factor (950 cm2 sr), flown on OGO-6 satellite, reveals a ring of low energy charged particles around equator with fluxes of the order of 50–70 particles (m–2 s–1 sr–1), in the altitude range of 400–1100 km. The ring of charged particles exists below the inner radiation belt and is restricted to ±4° of the geomagnetic equator. Distribution of the maximum flux with geomagnetic latitude andL is presented. Comparison of the observed fluxes with earlier measurements of low energy particles, reveals a differential energy spectrum of the type KE with the exponent nearly equal to 2.4 to 3.  相似文献

Gravity field and interior of Rhea from Cassini data analysis   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The Cassini spacecraft encountered Rhea on November 26, 2005. Analysis of the Doppler data acquired at and around closest approach yields the mass of Rhea and the quadrupole moments of its gravity field with unprecedented accuracy. We obtained which corresponds to a density of . Our results for J2 and C22 are (7.947±0.892)×10−4 and (2.3526±0.0476)×10−4, respectively. These values are consistent with hydrostatic equilibrium. From the value of C22, we infer the non-dimensional moment of inertia C/MR2=0.3721±0.0036. Our models of Rhea's interior based on the gravity data favor an almost undifferentiated satellite. A discontinuity between a core and a mantle is possible but not required by the data. Models with a constant silicate mass fraction throughout the body cannot account for the determined quadrupole coefficients. The data exclude fully differentiated models in which the core would be composed of unhydrated silicates and the mantle would be composed of pure ice. If the mantle contains 10% in mass of silicates, the core extends to 630 km in radius and has a silicate mass fraction of 40%. A continuous model in which the silicates are more concentrated toward the center of the body than in the outer layers is allowed by the gravity data but excluded by thermal evolution considerations. The one model that fits the gravity data and is self-consistent when energy transport and ice melting are qualitatively considered is an “almost undifferentiated” Rhea, in which a very large uniform core is surrounded by a relatively thin ice shell containing no rock at all.  相似文献

We report radar, photometric, and spectroscopic observations of near-Earth Asteroid (136617) 1994 CC. The radar measurements were obtained at Goldstone (8560 MHz, 3.5 cm) and Arecibo (2380 MHz, 12.6 cm) on 9 days following the asteroid’s approach within 0.0168 AU on June 10, 2009. 1994 CC was also observed with the Panchromatic Robotic Optical Monitoring and Polarimetry Telescopes (PROMPT) on May 21 and June 1-3. Visible-wavelength spectroscopy was obtained with the 5-m Hale telescope at Palomar on August 25. Delay-Doppler radar images reveal that 1994 CC is a triple system; along with (153591) 2001 SN263, this is only the second confirmed triple in the near-Earth population. Photometry obtained with PROMPT yields a rotation period for the primary P = 2.38860 ± 0.00009 h and a lightcurve amplitude of ∼0.1 mag suggesting a shape with low elongation. Hale telescope spectroscopy indicates that 1994 CC is an Sq-class object. Delay-Doppler radar images and shape modeling reveal that the primary has an effective diameter of 0.62 ± 0.06 km, low pole-on elongation, few obvious surface features, and a prominent equatorial ridge and sloped hemispheres that closely resemble those seen on the primary of binary near-Earth Asteroid (66391) 1999 KW4. Detailed orbit fitting reported separately by Fang et al. (Fang, J., Margot, J.-L., Brozovic, M., Nolan, M.C., Benner, L.A.M., Taylor, P.A. [2011]. Astron. J. 141, 154-168) gives a mass of the primary of 2.6 × 1011 kg that, coupled with the effective diameter, yields a bulk density of 2.1 ± 0.6 g cm−3. The images constrain the diameters of the inner and outer satellites to be 113 ± 30 m and 80 ± 30 m, respectively. The inner satellite has a semimajor axis of ∼1.7 km (∼5.5 primary radii), an orbital period of ∼30 h, and its Doppler dispersion suggests relatively slow rotation, 26 ± 12 h, consistent with spin-orbit lock. The outer satellite has an orbital period of ∼9 days and a rotation period of 14 ± 7 h, establishing that the rotation is not spin-orbit locked. Among all binary and triple systems observed by radar, at least 25% (7/28) have a satellite that rotates more rapidly than its orbital period. This suggests that asynchronous configurations with Protation < Porbital are relatively common among multiple systems in the near-Earth population. 1994 CC’s outer satellite has an observed maximum separation from the primary of ∼5.7 km (∼18.4 primary radii) that is the largest separation relative to primary radius seen to date among all 36 known binary and triple NEA systems. 1994 CC, (153591) 2001 SN263, and 1998 ST27 are the only triple and binary systems known with satellite separations >10 primary radii, suggesting either a detection bias, or that such widely-separated satellites are relatively uncommon in NEA multiple systems.  相似文献

An attempt is made to detect the lines of Mg25H and Mg26H in the photospheric spectrum, using calculated isotope shifts. From comparisons with the Mg24H lines of the 2 2 transition in the (0, 0) band the ratios Mg25/Mg24 = 0.12 ± 0.04 and Mg26/Mg24 = 0.12 ± 0.02 are derived. These are essentially the same as the terrestrial ratios. The profile of one line of Mgi confirms these values. The wavelengths of MgH and C2 lines, when corrected for the gravitational red shift, indicate that macroturbulent (or streaming) velocities die out near log 0 = – 1.0. From the equivalent widths of the MgH lines a rotational temperature of 5132 ± 200 K is obtained and compared to predictions from various model atmospheres. The band oscillator strength is found to be 0.024 ± 0.002, in serious disagreement with the single laboratory determination. The profiles of MgH, C2, CN and some weak atomic lines are used to derive the variation of the radial component of microturbulence with optical depth, on the assumption of streaming velocities of 2.5–3.0 km/sec. A slow increase with increasing height in the photosphere is found, over the range –1.5 < log0< 0.2.The center-limb variation of the equivalent widths of MgH and C2 lines for a wholly inhomogeneous model is found to be the same as for a model which is homogeneous above log 0 = - 1.0. With such a model as the latter, the center-limb variation of the profiles of the selected molecular and atomic lines is moderately-well reproduced by an anisotropic microturbulent velocity with a tangential component of 3 km/sec which seems to be constant with height over the range considered.  相似文献

The Electron Spectrometer (ELS), one of the sensors making up the Cassini Plasma Spectrometer (CAPS) revealed the existence of numerous negative ions in Titan's upper atmosphere. The observations at closest approach (∼1000 km) show evidence for negatively charged ions up to ∼10,000 amu/q, as well as two distinct peaks at 22±4 and 44±8 amu/q, and maybe a third one at 82±14 amu/q. We present the first ionospheric model of Titan including negative ion chemistry. We find that dissociative electron attachment to neutral molecules (mostly HCN) initiates the formation of negative ions. The negative charge is then transferred to more acidic molecules such as HC3N, HC5N or C4H2. Loss occurs through associative detachment with radicals (H and CH3). We attribute the three low mass peaks observed by ELS to CN, C3N/C4H and C5N. These species are the first intermediates in the formation of the even larger negative ions observed by ELS, which are most likely the precursors to the aerosols observed at lower altitudes.  相似文献

We report the discovery of the forbidden electronic a1Δ→X3Σ transition of the SO radical on Io at 1.7 μm with the W. M. Keck II telescope on 24 September 1999 (UT), while the satellite was eclipsed by Jupiter. The shape of the SO emission band suggests a rotational temperature of ∼1000 K; i.e., the gas is extremely hot. We interpret the observed emission rate of ∼2×1027 photons s−1 to be caused by SO molecules in the excited a1Δ state being directly ejected from the vent at a thermodynamic quenching temperature of ∼1500 K, assuming a SO/SO2 abundance ratio of ∼0.1 and a total venting rate of ∼1031 molecules s−1 (Strobel and Wolven 2001, Astrophys. Space Sci. 277, 1-17). The shape of our complete (1.6-2.5 μm) spectrum suggests that the volcano Loki contains a small (∼2 km2) hot spot at 960±12 K, as well as a larger (∼50 km2) area at 640±5 K.  相似文献

High spectral resolution observations from the Cassini Composite Infrared Spectrometer [Flasar, F.M., and 44 colleagues, 2004. Space Sci. Rev. 115, 169-297] are analysed to derive new estimates for the mole fractions of CH4, CH3D and 13CH4 of (4.7±0.2)×10−3, (3.0±0.2)×10−7 and (5.1±0.2)×10−5 respectively. The mole fractions show no hemispherical asymmetries or latitudinal variability. The analysis combines data from the far-IR methane rotational lines and the mid-IR features of methane and its isotopologues, using both the correlated-k retrieval algorithm of Irwin et al. [Irwin, P., and 9 colleagues, 2008. J. Quant. Spectrosc. Radiat. Trans. 109, 1136-1150] and a line-by-line approach to evaluate the reliability of the retrieved quantities. C/H was found to be enhanced by 10.9±0.5 times the solar composition of Grevesse et al. [Grevesse, N., Asplund, M., Sauval, A., 2007. Space Sci. Rev. 130 (1), 105-114], 2.25±0.55 times larger than the enrichment on Jupiter, and supporting the increasing fractional core mass with distance from the Sun predicted by the core accretion model of planetary formation. A comparison of the jovian and saturnian C/N, C/S and C/P ratios suggests different reservoirs of the trapped volatiles in a primordial solar nebula whose composition varies with distance from the Sun. This is supported by our derived D/H ratio in methane of (1.6±0.2)×10−5, which appears to be smaller than the jovian value of Lellouch et al. [Lellouch, E., Bézard, B., Fouchet, T., Feuchtgruber, H., Encrenaz, T., de Graauw, T., 2001. Astron. Astrophys. 370, 610-622]. Mid-IR emission features provided an estimate of , which is consistent with both the terrestrial ratio and jovian ratio, suggesting that carbon was accreted from a shared reservoir for all of the planets.  相似文献
