The timing and causes of the last deglaciation in the southern tropical Andes is poorly known. In the Central Altiplano, recent studies have focused on whether this tropical highland was deglaciated before, synchronously or after the global last glacial maximum (~21 ka BP). In this study we present a new chronology based on cosmogenic 3He (3Hec) dating of moraines on Cerro Tunupa, a volcano that is located in the centre of the now vanished Lake Tauca (19.9°S, 67.6°W). These new 3Hec ages suggest that the Tunupa glaciers remained close to their maximum extent until 15 ka BP, synchronous with the Lake Tauca highstand (17–15 ka BP). Glacial retreat and the demise of Lake Tauca seem to have occurred rapidly and synchronously, within dating uncertainties, at ~15 ka BP. We took advantage of the synchronism of these events to combine a glacier model with a lake model in order to reconstruct precipitation and temperature during the Lake Tauca highstand. This new approach indicates that, during the Tauca highstand (17–15 ka BP), the centre of the Altiplano was characterized by temperature ~6.5 °C cooler and average precipitation higher by a factor ranging between ×1.6 and ×3 compared to the present. Cold and wet conditions thus persisted in a significant part of the southern tropical Andes during the Heinrich 1 event (17–15 ka BP). This study also demonstrates the extent to which the snowline of glaciers can be affected by local climatic conditions and emphasizes that efforts to draw global climate inferences from glacial extents must also consider local moisture conditions.  相似文献

The sedimentary record of the Val d'Agri basin is of great importance for understanding the Quaternary tectonic activity and climatic variability in the Southern Apennines. Changes in tectonic controls, sediment supply and climatic input have been identified. The interval from ~ 56 to ~ 43 ka was associated with asymmetric subsidence restricted to the north-eastern actively faulted margin of the basin and development of axial braided river and transverse alluvial fan systems. Short-lasting Mediterranean-type pedogenesis between ~ 43 and ~ 32 ka (MIS Stage 3) coexisted with progradation–aggradation of the southern alluvial fan deposits and southwards tilting of the basin floor. Aggradation ended with consumption of accommodation space after 32 ka. During a subsequent stage of decline of vegetation cover, possibly as a consequence of climatic cooling (probably MIS Stage 2), active progradation of alluvial fans occurred. Breakthrough of the basin threshold and entrenchment of the drainage network must therefore be attributed to a latest Pleistocene to Holocene age. The first stages of basin opening and fill, predating ~ 56 ka have only been inferred by stratigraphic considerations: the earliest lacustrine sedimentation should be middle Pleistocene or older in age. The following south-eastward basin widening allowed progradation of alluvial fan systems, which completely filled the lacustrine area (tentatively late middle Pleistocene). Pedogenesis in “Mediterranean-like” climate conditions caused the final development of a highly mature fersiallitic paleosol at the top of the fan surfaces, in areas of morpho-tectonic stability, plausibly during MIS Stage 5. The study results demonstrate the potential of applying a multidisciplinary approach in an intermontane continental settings marked by a relative rapid and constant tectonic subsidence and a high rate of sediment supply during the Pleistocene glacial–interglacial cycles.  相似文献

Fluorite is one of the secondary minerals precipitated in pore spaces at the future nuclear waste repository site at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. The authors have conducted (U–Th)/He dating of this fluorite in an attempt to constrain the temperature and timing of paleo-fluid flux into the site. Repeated analysis of colourless fluorite yielded a weighted average age of 9.7 ± 0.15 Ma (2σ), younger than previously determined sanidine 40Ar/39 Ar ages (12.8 Ma) for deposition of the tuff.Laboratory He-diffusion experiments conducted on the Yucca fluorite yield a preliminary He closure temperature (Tc) of 90 ± 10 °C (cooling rate of 10 °C/Ma) and previous studies have determined that the fluorite precipitated from warm fluids (65–80 °C) at depths of <400 m. However, minerals can experience partial He loss at temperatures well below the Tc and therefore the (U–Th)/He age of 9.7 Ma is interpreted to be a cooling age. This result implies that the last period of elevated temperature fluid circulation through the Yucca site was approximately 9.7 Ma ago.It was observed that the purple coloured outer portion of the fluorite nodule yielded non-reproducible and invariably older ages than colourless fluorite. Several possible reasons are suggested.  相似文献

The Cihai iron skarn deposit is located in the southern part of the eastern Tianshan, Xinjiang, northwestern China. The major iron orebodies are banded and nearly parallel to each other. The iron ores are hosted in an early diabase dike and in skarn. Post-ore diabase dikes cut the iron ores and their hosting diabase. Hydrothermal activity can be divided into four stages based on geological and petrographic observations: initial K–Na alteration (stage I), skarn-minor magnetite event (II), retrograde skarn-magnetite main ore event (III), and quartz–calcite–sulfide veining (IV). Zircon U–Pb dating yields ages of 286.5 ± 1.8 Ma for early diabase and 275.8 ± 2.2 Ma for post-ore diabase dikes. Amphibole separated from massive magnetite ore gives a 40Ar–39Ar plateau age of 281.9 ± 2.2 Ma and is the time of ore formation. Formation of the Cihai iron deposit is closely related to post-collisional magmatism and associated Cu–Ni–Au polymetallic mineralization in the eastern Tianshan.  相似文献

The ReSaKo project undertook extended fieldwork across southern Cameroon to explore the palaeoenvironmental information recorded in the alluvial sediments of equatorial African rivers. 160 hand-corings reaching maximum depths of 550 cm were carried out on alluvial ridges and floodplains of major Cameroonian fluvial systems. These multilayered, sandy to clayey alluvia contain sedimentary form-units and palaeosurfaces, which provide excellent additional proxy data archives for the reconstruction of palaeoenvironmental conditions in western equatorial Africa. Coring transects and sedimentary profiles document grain-size shifts and distinguishable sedimentary units in the stratigraphic record, which evidence (fluvial-)morphological adjustments of the fluvial systems in response to external forcing and (river-) intrinsic variability. 76 14C-(AMS)-dated samples from organic sediment and macro-rests (fossil organic remains like wood, leafs, etc.) embedded in these sedimentary units indicate Late Pleistocene to recent ages (uncalibrated 14C-ages: 48–0.2 ka BP). The tentative interpretation of the alluvial record yields excellent additional information on the complex feedbacks between climate, ocean, fluvial as well as ecological systems and human activity in a little-studied region with high sensitive tropical ecosystems. δ13C-values (?35.5 to ?18.0‰) of the dated samples indicate the persistence of C3-dominated gallery forests across the rivers (‘fluvial rain forest refuges’) despite several climatic fluctuations (aridifications, e.g. Last Glacial Maximum around 20 ka BP, Younger Dryas 13–11 ka BP). This research complements earlier results from additional terrestrial and marine proxy data archives on the Late Quaternary history of monsoonal western equatorial Africa.  相似文献

A thick alluvial sequence in central New Mexico contains the Scholle wet meadow deposit that traces upstream to a paleospring. The wet meadow sediments contain an abundant fauna of twenty-one species of freshwater and terrestrial mollusks and ten species of ostracodes. The mollusks and ostracodes are indicative of a local high alluvial water table with spring-supported perennial flow but without standing water. Pollen analysis documents shrub grassland vegetation with sedges, willow, and alder in a riparian community. Stable carbon isotopes from the wet meadow sediments have δ13C values ranging from ? 22.8 to ? 23.3‰, indicating that 80% of the organic carbon in the sediment is derived from C3 species. The wet meadow deposit is AMS dated 10,400 to 9700 14C yr BP, corresponding to 12,300 to 11,100 cal yr BP and overlapping in time with the Younger Dryas event (YD). The wet meadow became active about 500 yr after the beginning of the YD and persisted 400 yr after the YD ended. The Scholle wet meadow is the only record of perennial flow and high water table conditions in the Abo Arroyo drainage basin during the past 13 ka.  相似文献

The northern Banda Arc, eastern Indonesia, exposes upper mantle/lower crustal complexes comprising lherzolites and granulite facies migmatites of the ‘Kobipoto Complex’. Residual garnet–sillimanite granulites, which contain spinel + quartz inclusions within garnet, experienced ultrahigh-temperature (UHT; > 900 °C) conditions at 16 Ma due to heat supplied by lherzolites exhumed during slab rollback in the Banda Arc. Here, we present U–Pb zircon ages and new whole-rock geochemical analyses that document a protracted history of high-T metamorphism, melting, and acid magmatism of a common sedimentary protolith. Detrital zircons from the Kobipoto Complex migmatites, with ages between 3.4 Ga and 216 Ma, show that their protolith was derived from both West Papua and the Archean of Western Australia, and that metamorphism of these rocks on Seram could not have occurred until the Late Triassic. Zircons within the granulites then experienced three subsequent episodes of growth – at 215–173 Ma, 25–20 Ma, and at c. 16 Ma. The population of zircon rims with ages between 215 and 173 Ma document significant metamorphic (± partial melting) events that we attribute to subduction beneath the Bird's Head peninsula and Sula Spur, which occurred until the Banda and Argo continental blocks were rifted from the NW Australian margin of Gondwana in the Late Jurassic (from c. 160 Ma). Late Oligocene-Early Miocene collision between Australia (the Sula Spur) and SE Asia (northern Sulawesi) was then recorded by crystallisation of several 25–20 Ma zircon rims. Thereafter, a large population of c. 16 Ma zircon rims grew during subsequent and extensive Middle Miocene metamorphism and melting of the Kobipoto complex rocks beneath Seram under high- to ultrahigh-temperature (HT–UHT) conditions. Lherzolites located adjacent to the granulite-facies migmatites in central Seram equilibrated at 1280–1300 °C upon their exhumation to 1 GPa (~ 37 km) depth, whereupon they supplied sufficient heat to have metamorphosed adjacent Kobipoto Complex migmatites under UHT conditions at 16 Ma. Calculations suggesting slight (~ 10 vol%) mantle melting are consistent with observations of minor gabbroic intrusions and scarce harzburgites. Subsequent extension during continued slab rollback exhumed both the lherzolites and adjacent granulite-facies migmatites beneath extensional detachment faults in western Seram at 6.0–5.5 Ma, and on Ambon at 3.5 Ma, as recorded by subsequent zircon growth and 40Ar/39Ar ages in these regions. Ambonites, cordierite- and garnet-bearing dacites sourced predominantly from melts generated in the Kobipoto Complex migmatites, were later erupted on Ambon from 3.0 to 1.9 Ma.  相似文献

The Juina diamond field, in the 1970–80s, was producing up to 5–6 million carats per year from rich placer deposits, but no economic primary deposits had been found in the area. In 2006–2007, Diagem Inc. discovered a group of diamondiferous kimberlitic pipes within the Chapadão Plateau (Chapadão, or Pandrea cluster), at the head of a drainage system which has produced most of the alluvial diamonds mined in the Juina area. Diamonds from placer deposits and newly discovered kimberlites are identical; they have super-deep origins from the upper-mantle and transition zone. Field observations and petrographic studies have identified crater-facies kimberlitic material at seven separate localities. Kimberlitic material is represented by tuffs, tuffisites and various epiclastic sediments containing chrome spinel, picroilmenite, manganoan ilmenite, zircon and diamond. The diamond grade varies from 0.2–1.8 ct/m3. Chrome spinel has 30–61 wt.% Cr2O3. Picroilmenite contains 6–14 wt.% MgO and 0.2–4 wt.% Cr2O3. Manganoan ilmenite has less than 3 wt.% MgO and 0.38–1.41 wt.% MnO. The 176Hf/177Hf ratio in kimberlitic zircons is 0.028288–0.28295 with εHf = 5.9–8.3, and lies on the average kimberlite trend between depleted mantle and CHUR. The previously known barren and weakly diamondiferous kimberlites in the Juina area have ages of 79–80 Ma. In contrast, zircons from the newly discovered Chapadão kimberlites have a mean 206Pb/238U age of 93.6 ± 0.4 Ma, corresponding to a time of magmatic activity related to the opening of the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean. The most likely mechanism of the origin of kimberlitic magma is super-deep subduction process that initiated partial melting of zones in lower mantle with subsequent ascent of proto-kimberlitic magma.  相似文献

The Madurai Block in southern India is a composite collage of at least three sub-blocks, with Neoarchean–Paleoproterozoic segments in the north and central domains, and a Neoproterozoic segment in the south. Here we investigate a suite of rocks with magmatic protoliths that constitute the basement in the southern margin of the Madurai Block including alkali granites, charnockites, enderbites and gabbros. The alkali granites are dominantly composed of perthitic K-feldspar, minor plagioclase and quartz, with hornblende as the main mafic mineral suggesting a calc-alkaline nature. The enderbites and charnockites have a broadly similar mineralogical constitution except for the variation in the modal content of plagioclase, K-feldspar and quartz, as well as the additional presence of clinopyroxene in some of the enderbites. The high modal content of hornblende in the gabbros suggests crystallization from hydrous basaltic melts. The geochemical features of this suite are identical to those of arc magmatic rocks, with distinct Nb, Ta, and Ti depletion suggesting magmatism in a subduction-related environment. We envisage that the underplating of basaltic magmas within a convergent margin setting provided the heat input for lower crustal melting generating the charnockitic suite of rocks. The intrusion of the underplated mafic melts as gabbroic dykes and sills into the crystallizing felsic magmas resulted in magma mixing and mingling generating the widespread enclaves of gabbroic rocks. The alkali granites were derived from the differentiation of lower crustal melts. Zircon U–Pb data from the alkali granites yield weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 786 ± 10 to 772 ± 11 Ma for the oldest and the most dominant group of magmatic grains, with a 662 ± 20 Ma subordinate group. The oldest group of magmatic zircons in the charnockite samples shows ages of 938 ± 27 Ma, 896 ± 12 Ma, and 786 ± 9 Ma, suggesting multiple magmatic pulses during early and mid-Neoproterozoic. A subordinate population of magmatic zircons with ages of 661 ± 9 Ma and 632 ± 7 Ma is also present. In the enderbites, the magmatic zircon population yields weighted mean ages of 926 ± 22 Ma, 923 ± 36 Ma, 889 ± 13 Ma, 803 ± 10 Ma, 787 ± 23 Ma, 786 ± 10 Ma, 748 ± 27 Ma, 742 ± 11 Ma, 717 ± 8 Ma and 692 ± 10 Ma suggesting continuous and multiple pulses of magmas emplaced throughout early to mid-Neoproterozoic. Magmatic zircons from the gabbros show weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 903 ± 13 Ma, 777 ± 10 Ma, 729 ± 10 Ma and 639 ± 27 Ma. Metamorphic zircons from all the rock types show latest Neoproterozoic-Cambrian ages in the range of 567 ± 19 Ma to 510 ± 8 Ma suggesting prolonged heating. Zircon Lu–Hf data show that the alkali granite-charnockite-enderbite suite has depleted mantle ages (TDM) in the range of 1164–2172 Ma and crustal residence ages (TDMC) of 1227–3023 Ma. These spots show both negative εHf(t) and positive εHf(t) values (− 22.1 to 10.6), suggesting magma derivation from mixed juvenile mid- to late-Mesoproterozoic components and reworked Mesoarchean to mid-Mesoproterozoic components. Zircon grains from the gabbroic rocks show depleted mantle ages and (TDM) in the range of 1112–2046 Ma, crustal residence ages (TDMC) of 1306–2816 Ma, and both negative and positive εHf(t) values (− 17.8 to 7.9), suggesting that the magmas were dominantly derived from juvenile mid-Mesoproterozoic to Neoproterozoic components as well as reworked Mesoarchean to mid-Mesoproterozoic sources. Our data clearly reveal multiple arc magmatism along the southern Madurai Block during distinct pulses throughout early to late Neoproterozoic, suggesting an active convergent margin along this zone at this time. Crustal thickening occurred through relamination by mafic magmas associated with slab melting. Continental outbuilding and southward growth of the Madurai Block were associated with the lateral accretion of the vast sedimentary belt of Trivandrum Block, culminating in collisional metamorphism during latest Neoproterozoic–Cambrian associated with Gondwana assembly.  相似文献

The Hukeng tungsten deposit, located in the Wugongshan area in central part of Jiangxi province, South China, is a large-scale quartz-vein wolframite deposit. It is hosted in the Hukeng granitic intrusion. Based on the mineral assemblage and crosscutting relationship of the veins, three mineralization stages are identified, including: (1) quartz–wolframite stage, (2) quartz–fluorite–wolframite stage, and (3) quartz–pyrite–sphalerite–wolframite stage. The homogenization temperatures of fluid inclusions in vein quartz vary from 220 to 320 °C, and the salinities are from 0 to 10 wt.% NaCl equiv.; corresponding densities range from 0.7 to 1 g/cm3. These features indicated that the ore-forming fluids in the Hukeng tungsten deposit have medium temperature, low density and low salinity. The δ18OSMOW values of quartz range from 10.8‰ to 14.4‰, with corresponding δ18Ofluid values of 3.7‰ to 7.7‰, and δD values of fluid inclusions of between ? 70‰ and ? 55‰. The combined isotopic data indicate that the ore-forming fluids of the Hukeng tungsten deposit were mainly derived from magmatic water, with some minor input from meteoric water. We have carried out molybdenite Re–Os and muscovite 40Ar/39Ar dating to constrain the timing of mineralization. Re–Os dating of six molybdenite samples yielded model ages ranging from 149.1 ± 2.0 to 150.7 ± 3.7 Ma, with an average of 150.0 Ma. The Re–Os analyses give a well-defined 187Re/187Os isochron with an age of 150.2 ± 2.2 Ma (MSWD = 0.60). Hydrothermal muscovite yields a plateau 40Ar/39Ar age of 147.2 ± 1.4 Ma. 40Ar/39Ar age is in good agreement with the Re–Os age. These ages show that the timing of tungsten mineralization occurred at about 150 Ma. Our new data, when combined with published geochronological results from the other major deposits in this region, suggest that widespread W mineralization occurred in the Late Jurassic throughout South China.  相似文献

Carbon (δ13CPDB) and oxygen (δ18OSMOW) isotopic compositions of auriferous quartz-carbonate veins (QCVs) of gold deposits from Sangli, Kabuliyatkatti, Nagavi, Nabapur and Mysore mining areas developed on the Central Lode system of the Gadag Gold Field (GGF) in the Neoarchaean Gadag schist belt of the Dharwar Craton, southern India have been examined for the first time to understand the origin of the mineralising fluids. In majority of the samples (46 out of 49), δ13Cpdb of carbonates of the QCVs fall in the range from − 2.2‰ to − 9.7‰ and the δ18O values range from 12.0‰ to 30.5‰ SMOW. The calculated fluid δ13C C compositions for these deposits range from − 2.1‰ to − 9.6‰ and δ18OH2O from 6.8‰ to 25.9‰, respectively. Carbonate δ13C and fluid δ13C C compositions of the carbonates of the QCVs of the GGF are not only distinct from the carbon isotope range of marine carbonates or meta-sedimentary carbonates of the Chitradurga schist belt, but are consistent with C-isotope values of magmatic (− 5 ± 3‰, Burrows et al., 1986) and/or mantle (− 6 ± 2‰, Ohmoto, 1986) carbonates. As dissolution/decarbonation reactions during metamorphism of pre-existing carbonate/carbonated rocks produce CO2 with δ13C values similar to or more enriched than parent rock, the carbonate or fluid δ13C ratios of the QCVs (which fall in the compositional range of mantle/magmatic derived CO2 or carbonates) obtained in this work cannot be the result of metamorphism. The present study corroborates our previous reports from Ajjanahalli and G.R. Halli gold deposits (Sarangi et al., 2012) occurring in the vicinity of the southern extension of the same crustal scale shear zone on which all the GGF deposits are located. The age of gold mineralisation in this area has been reported to be 2522 ± 6 Ma by Sarma et al., 2011. Chardon et al. (2011) have proposed large-scale remobilization of the older gneissic basement, as well as, emplacement of juvenile granites between 2559 Ma and 2507 Ma, close to the crustal scale shear zone along the eastern margin of the Chitradurga schist belt. Based on these observations and our isotope studies, it is proposed that gold mineralising fluids were derived from mantle/juvenile magmatic melts and were channelled through crustal scale shear zones to give rise to the gold deposits in the GGF.  相似文献

The Elu Link connecting the Neoarchean Hope Bay and Elu granite-greenstone belts in the Bathurst block of the northeast Slave craton consists of volcano-sedimentary and gabbro–granite rocks. Laser ablation ICP-MS zircon and titanite U-Pb dating was combined with mineral 40Ar-39Ar age data to date the Elu Link rocks and D1–D3 tectono-metamorphic events, as well as characterize the response to the Thelon Orogeny in the area. The volcanic rocks are correlated with the ca. 2716 Ma Flake Lake suite in the adjacent Hope Bay belt, whereas the sedimentary units have a minimum depositional age of 2684 ± 11 Ma nearly coinciding with the onset of D1 deformation. Most gabbro–granite bodies were emplaced between 2651 ± 14 Ma and 2577 ± 13 Ma coeval with the D2 deformation whose accompanying metamorphism culminated at 2632 ± 7 Ma. Older ages (up to 3042 ± 22 Ma) retained by either the gabbro–granite or their hosts are indicative of crustal contamination. A few gabbro–granites were also emplaced during the 2577 ± 13 Ma to 2494 ± 21 Ma D3 deformation event. However, the 2494 ± 21 Ma intrusions are unusual and mark the Archean–Paleoproterozoic transition. The D3 deformation was followed by erosional exhumation and localized thermal pulses associated with the emplacement of diabase dikes at 2228 ± 8 Ma, 2128 ± 11 Ma, and 802 ± 75 Ma. The Thelon Orogeny imprint, inferred from the 2054 ± 11 Ma to 1919 ± 5 Ma biotite ages, corresponds to nearly isobaric, low-temperature (< 350 °C) metamorphic re-equilibration.  相似文献

Ore-forming porphyries and barren granitoids from porphyry Cu deposits differ in many ways, particularly with respect to their adakitic affinity and calc-alkaline characteristics. In this study, zircon U–Pb and molybdenite Re–Os dating, whole rock geochemistry, whole rock Sr–Nd–Pb and zircon O–Hf isotopic analyses were carried out on the ore-forming granitoids from the Kounrad, Borly and Sayak deposits, and also on pre-ore and post-ore granitoids in adjacent regions of Central Kazakhstan. Geochronology results indicate that pre-ore magmatism occurred in the Late Devonian to Early Carboniferous (361.3–339.4 Ma), followed by large scale Cu mineralization (325.0–327.3 Ma at Kounrad, 311.4–315.2 Ma at Borly and 309.5–311.4 Ma at Sayak), and finally, emplacement of the Late Carboniferous post-ore barren granitoids (305.0 Ma). The geochemistry of these rocks is consistent with calc-alkaline arc magmatism characterized by strong depletions in Nb, Ta and Ti and enrichments in light rare earth elements and large ion lithophile elements, suggesting a supra-subduction zone setting. However, the ore-forming rocks at Kounrad and Sayak show adakitic characteristics with high Sr (517.5–785.3 ppm), Sr/Y (50.60–79.26), (La/Yb)N (9.37–19.62) but low Y (6.94–11.54 ppm) and Yb (0.57–1.07 ppm), whereas ore-forming rocks at Borly and barren rocks from northwest of Borly and Sayak have normal arc magma geochemical features. The Sr–Nd–Hf–O isotopic compositions show three different signatures: (1) Sayak granitoids have very young juvenile lower crust-derived compositions ((87Sr/86Sr)i = 0.70384 to 0.70451, ɛNd (t) = + 4.9 to + 6.0; TDM2 (Nd) = 580 to 670 Ma, ɛHf (t) = + 11.3 to + 15.5; TDMC (Hf) = 330 to 600 Ma, δ18O = 6.0 to 8.1‰), and were probably generated from depleted mantle-derived magma with 5–15% sediment melt addition in the magma source; (2) the Kt-1 granite from northwest of Sayak shows extremely enriched Sr–Nd isotopic compositions ((87Sr/86Sr)i = 0.71050, ɛNd (t) =  7.8, TDM2 (Nd) = 1700 Ma), likely derived from partial melting of ancient continental crust; (3) other granitoids have transitional Sr–Nd compositions between the Sayak and Kt-1 samples, indicating a juvenile lower crust source with the addition of 10–30% of ancient crustal material. The pre-ore magmatism was probably related to partial melting of juvenile lower crust due to northward subduction of the Junggar–Balkhash Ocean, whereas the ore-forming adakitic rocks at Aktogai, Kounrad and Sayak formed by partial melting of thickened lower crust which subsequently delaminated. The ore-forming rocks at Borly, and the later post-ore barren granites, formed by partial melting of juvenile lower crust with normal thickness. This tectonic setting supports the existence of an Andean-type magmatic arc in the Devonian to the Late Carboniferous, resulting from the subduction of the Junggar–Balkhash oceanic plate. The link between whole rock geochemistry and scale of mineralization suggests a higher metallogenic potential for adakitic rocks than for normal arc magmatism.  相似文献

The Xingshan porphyry Mo deposit is located in the Lesser Xing’an Range–Zhangguangcai Range metallogenic belt, NE China. Mineralization occurred in granodioritic porphyry and monzogranite, which have zircon U–Pb ages of 171.7 ± 2.2 Ma and 170.9 ± 4.6 Ma, respectively. Molybdenite Re–Os dating indicates that Mo mineralization occurred at 167.3 ± 2.5 Ma. These geochronological data suggest that the magmatic and hydrothermal activities of the Xingshan Mo deposit happened during the Middle Jurassic in Mesozoic. Positive εHf values (6.2–11.6) and young TDM2 (473–826 Ma) of the monzogranite (XS-3) and granodioritic porphyry (XS-5) indicate that the source materials of Xingshan ore-bearing rocks are the juvenile crust, which mainly accreted on the Songnen block during the Meso-Neoproterozoic. Xingshan porphyry Mo deposits resulted from the magmatism and tectonism induced by the subduction of Paleo-Pacific Ocean.  相似文献

Several metabasite lenses in Ganghe, Central Dabie, that were previously described as pillow lavas are studied by elemental, Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic, and mineral oxygen isotopic analysis as well as zircon SHRIMP U–Pb dating. Zircon U–Pb geochronology results indicate that the protolith emplacement age of these metabasites is approximately 717 ± 38 Ma, consistent with the age of the volcanoclastic rocks in the same unit, and that they experienced the Triassic HP eclogite-facies retrograde metamorphism at 221 ± 2 Ma during exhumation after subduction to mantle depth and peak ultra-high pressure metamorphism. The low δ18O values of −5.5‰ to −2.0‰ indicate that the protoliths underwent high temperature meteoric-hydrothermal alteration before subduction but had no seawater interaction. These metabasites had similar formation processes, water–rock interactions and metamorphisms as other eclogite-facies rocks cropped out in the Central Dabie terrain. They showed negative abnormalities in Nb, Sr, and Ti content and positive abnormalities in Ba, Th, and Pb content; they also showed LREE enrichment. The insusceptible Sm–Nd isotopes during metamorphism yielded εNd (t) = −12 to −10 and TDM = 2.2–2.8 Ga for samples from lenses #1 to #3 and −7 to −6 and 2.1–2.2 Ga for lens #4; the samples also showed low radiogenic Pb isotope compositions of (206Pb/204Pb)i = 15.34–16.50, (207Pb/204Pb)i = 15.23–15.32, and (208Pb/204Pb)i = 35.93–37.04. The data suggest that the protolith sources of the metabasites were contaminated to variable degrees by old crustal materials during formation. Unlike the Maowu layered intrusions, which were contaminated by upper crust, the magmas of the metabasites were contaminated by lower crust in the magma chamber and during eruption. It can be concluded that the protoliths of these metabasites were derived from old crustal-contaminated mantle sources and initially emplaced in the crust at the Neoproterozoic and that they were altered by meteoric water at high temperatures. In this respect, they might be similar to the Neoproterozoic mafic intrusions in the North Huaiyang terrain. However, the studied metabasites experienced the Permo-Triassic subduction and metamorphism, whereas the North Huaiyang Neoproterozoic mafic intrusions did not.  相似文献

Oxygen and carbon isotope ratios of soil carbonate and carbon isotope ratios of soil organic matter (SOM) separated from three cores, Kalpi, IITK and Firozpur, of the Ganga Plain, India are used to reconstruct past rainfall variations and their effect on ambient vegetation. The δ18O values of soil carbonate (δ18OSC) analyzed from the cores range from ? 8.2 to ? 4.1‰. Using these variations in δ18OSC values we are able, for the first time, to show periodic change in rainfall amount between 100 and 18 ka with three peaks of higher monsoon at about 100, 40 and 25 ka. The estimation of rainfall variations using δ18O value of rainwater-amount effect suggests maximum decrease in rainfall intensity (~ 20%) during the last glacial maximum. The δ13C values of soil carbonate (δ13CSC) and SOM (δ13CSOM) range from ? 6.3 to + 1.6‰ and ? 28.9 to ? 19.4‰, respectively, implying varying proportions of C3 and C4 vegetations over the Ganga Plain during the last 100 ka. The comparison between monsoonal rainfall and atmospheric CO2 with vegetation for the time period 84 to 18 ka indicate that relative abundances of C3 and C4 vegetations were mainly driven by variations in monsoonal rainfall.  相似文献

The Eastern Qinling Orogen (EQO) is a major composite collisional zone located between the North China and the Yangtze cratons. This contribution combines geological and Hf–isotopic data from magmatic rocks associated with mineralization to gain insights into links between the crust architecture and metallogeny, and to focus exploration in the orogen. The new zircon U–Pb dates reported in this study are 434 ± 2 Ma for diorite, 433 ± 2 and 436 ± 2 Ma for monzogranite, and 454 ± 2 Ma for granodiorite in the Nanzhao area; 225 ± 2 Ma for syenite and 160 ± 1 Ma for monzogranite at Songxian; and 108 ± 1 and 102 ± 1 Ma for syenogranite in eastern Fangcheng. Combining our data with those from the entire EQO reveals seven major magmatic events since the Cambrian. These magmatic events took place during the Cambrian–Silurian associated with subduction, Early Devonian magmatism related to a collisional event, Early Permian to Late Triassic magmatism related to subduction, Late Triassic collisional magmatism, Late Triassic to Early Jurassic post–collision magmatism, and Jurassic–Cretaceous magmatism during intra–continental subduction.Lu-Hf isotopic data collected from granitic rocks for this study give εHf(t) values of: − 1.4 to 10.9 for diorite and monzogranite at Nanzhao; − 27.1 to − 15.6 for syenite and − 27.5 to − 25.1 for monzogranite at Songxian; and − 12.9 to − 3.4 for syenogranite in the eastern Fangcheng. Combining Hf isotopic data for the EQO from previous studies, we have evaluated the spatio–temporal distribution of Hf isotopic compositions. The resultant Hf isotopic maps highlight the location of the Kuanping Suture as an important tectonic boundary between the North China and the Yangtze cratons, which separates the EQO into a north part with an old and reworked lower crust and a southern part representing a juvenile lower crust. The Hf isotopic mapping of the EQO also provides information on the distribution of mineral deposits. Porphyry and porphyry–skarn Mo(–W) deposits are associated with magmatic rocks were emplaced in zones with low–εHf and high TDMc values representing old and reworked crustal components. In contrast, porphyry and porphyry–skarn Cu(–Mo) deposits are associated with magmatic rocks emplaced in domains with variable εHf and TDMc values characterized by dominantly reworked old crustal components with minor juvenile material. The magmatic source for the intrusions is characterized by low–εHf and high TDMc values, which are granite–related Mo or Pb–Zn–Ag mineralization.  相似文献

This paper presents geochemical, Sr–Nd isotopic, and U–Pb zircon geochronological data on the Alvand plutonic complex in Sanandaj–Sirjan zone (SSZ), Western Iran. The gabbroic rocks show a trend of a calc-alkaline magma suite and are characterized by low initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7023–0.7037) and positive εNd(t) values (2.9–3.3), which suggest derivation from a moderately depleted mantle source. Geochemical features of the granites illustrate a high-K calc-alkaline magma series, whereas the leucocratic granitoids form part of a low-K series. Granites have intermediate 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.707–0.719) and negative εNd(t) values (−1.0 to −3.4), while leucocratic granitoids have higher initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio (0.713–0.714) and more negative εNd(t) values (−3.5 to −4.5). Potential basement source lithologies for the granites are Proterozoic granites and orthogneisses, and those for the leucocratic granites are plagioclase-rich sources such as meta-arkoses or tonalites. The U–Pb dating results demonstrate that all granitoids were exclusively emplaced during the Jurassic instead of being Cretaceous or younger in age as suggested previously. The pluton was assembled incrementally over c. 10 Ma. Gabbros formed at 166.5 ± 1.8 Ma, granites between 163.9 ± 0.9 Ma and 161.7 ± 0.6 Ma, and leucocratic granitoids between 154.4 ± 1.3 and 153.3 ± 2.7 Ma. Granites and leucocratic granitoids show some A-type affinity. It is concluded that the Alvand plutonic complex was generated in a continental-arc-related extensional regime during subduction of Neo-Tethyan oceanic crust beneath the SSZ. The U/Pb zircon age data, recently corroborated by similar results in the central and southern SSZ, indicate that Jurassic granitoids are more areally extensive in this belt than previously thought.  相似文献

For the first time, electron spin resonance optical dating (ESROD) has been conducted on littorally transported and aeolian siliciclastic sediments in Florida. ESROD utilizes light-sensitive radiation-sensitive defects at silicon sites that have been replaced by aluminum and titanium atoms to give rise to a time-dependant signal. These defects saturate at higher levels of radiation dose, compared to optically stimulated luminescence, and therefore extend the optical dating range back into the millions of years. Our results show that the Trail Ridge Sequence is a multi-depositional unit that began deposition around 2.2 Ma and continued until 6 ka. The Osceola Cape, of the Effingham Sequence, was deposited around 1.5 Ma, and the Chatham Sequence was a multi-depositional terrace with at least three events preserved.  相似文献

The Baoligaomiao Formation, within the Hegenshan ophiolite-arc-accretion complex is an important segment to understand the tectonic evolution of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), world's largest Phanerozoic orogenic belt. In this study, we present an integrated study of zircon U-Pb isotopic ages, whole rock major-trace elements, and Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic data from the volcanic succession in the Baoligaomiao Formation. The volcanic succession can be divided into the lower sequence with zircon U-Pb ages in the range of 326.3 Ma–307.4 Ma and the upper sequence of 305.3 Ma. The succession belongs to two suites: calc-alkaline volcanics and high-Si rhyolites. The calc-alkaline volcanic rocks include basaltic andesite through andesite and dacite to rhyolite and their pyroclastic equivalents. These rocks exhibit a well-defined compositional trend from basaltic to rhyolitic magma, reflecting continuous fractional crystallization. These rocks show obvious enrichment in LILEs and LREEs and relative depletion of HFSEs, typical of subduction-related magma. The calc-alkaline rocks have low initial 87Sr/86Sr (0.7023–0.7052), positive ɛNd(t) values (2.75–4.80), and their initial Pb isotopic compositions are 17.875–18.485 of 206Pb/204Pb, 15.481–15.520 of 207Pb/204Pb and 37.467–37.764 of 208Pb/204Pb, respectively. Geochemical and isotopic results suggest that the volcanic succession represents Carboniferous subduction-related, mature, continental arc volcanism. The outcrops of high-Si rhyolites are restricted to the northern edge of the continental arc, marking a transition zone between volcanic arc and back-arc basin, where they are interbedded with the calc-alkaline rocks in the lower sequence, and the upper sequence is composed only of high-Si rhyolites. The high-Si rhyolites have high SiO2 (71.12–81.76 wt%) and varied total alkali contents (K2O + Na2O = 5.46–10.58 wt%), low TiO2 (0.06–0.27 wt%), MgO (0.09–0.89 wt%) and CaO (0.08–0.72 wt%). Based on the presence of mafic alkali phenocrysts, such as arfvedsonite and siderophyllite, high Zr/Nb ratios (> 10) and peralkalinity index (PI) near unity, the high-Si rhyolites can be classified as peralkaline comendites. The high-Si rhyolites are characterized by unusually low Sr and Ba, and high abundance of Zr, Th, Nb, HREEs and Y. They show geochemical characteristics similar to those of typical A2-type granites including their high K2O + Na2O, Nb, Zr and Y, and high ratios of FeOT/MgO, Ga/Al and Y/Nb. Our study suggests that the high-Si rhyolites were derived from discrete trachytic parent magma with fractional crystallization within shallow magma reservoirs. Their Nd-Pb isotopic characteristics are similar to those of the calc-alkaline arc rocks and are compatible with partial melting of pre-existing juvenile continental arc crust. We observe that the widespread eruptions of A2-rhyolitic magmas (305.3 Ma–303.4 Ma) following a short period of magmatic quiescence was temporally and spatially associated with voluminous intrusion of the bimodal magmas (304.3 Ma–299.3 Ma) in the pre-existing arc volcanic-plutonic belt (329 Ma–307 Ma). We envisage northward subduction and slab breakoff process resulting in an obvious change of the regional stress field to extensional setting within the Carboniferous continental arc running E-W for thousands of kilometers. Therefore, we propose the existence of an east-west-trending Carboniferous continental arc in the Hegenshan ophiolite-arc-accretion complex, with the slab breakoff event suggesting that the age of the upper sequence (305.3 ± 5.5 Ma) likely indicates the maximum age for the cessation of the northward subduction of the Hegenshan oceanic lithosphere.  相似文献
