ABSTRACT New stratigraphic and structural data on the turbiditic succession of Chios (Volissos turbidites) suggest that this clastic wedge formed during the Early Carboniferous. These turbidites, fed long-distance by erosion of the Variscan orogen, were most likely deposited in a Palaeotethyan remnant-ocean basin. They were severely deformed and structurally thickened at anchi-metamorphic conditions before the close of the Palaeozoic. Both contractional and layer-parallel extensional structures, high strain rates, and broken-in-matrix fabrics along thick shear zones may suggest deformation at the toe of an accretionary wedge. Stratigraphic, petrographic and structural data indicate that Chios represents the westernmost part of Palaeotethys which escaped the Carboniferous collision between Gondwana and Laurasia, but received great volumes of terrigenous sediments from the Variscan belt, favouring the growth of a large accretionary prism.  相似文献

塔里木北缘南天山蛇绿混杂岩带沿乌瓦门、库勒湖、依奇科里克、黑英山等地分布,黑英山段蛇绿混杂岩以梅什布拉克牧场一带出露最好。该蛇绿岩时代的确定事关天山造山带形成与演化历史的认识。对采自梅什布拉克蛇绿混杂岩带基质中的20多件硅质岩进行了薄片观察,从中挑选出若干件代表性硅质岩和硅质泥岩做微古化石鉴定,从中发现较多放射虫化石,属于内射虫类和原笼虫类,时代为晚泥盆世法门期—早石炭世杜内期—维宪期,早石炭世代表南天山洋盆关闭的年龄下限,或构造混杂的早期年龄。结合区域地质及其前人研究成果,认为南天山的乌瓦门、库勒湖、依奇科里克、黑英山各段蛇绿岩在物质组成与时空延伸上均有可比性,共同构成一个大型的南天山晚古生代构造缝合带。现有资料不支持南天山存在晚二叠世洋盆的认识。  相似文献

笔者等首次在德保台地边缘上泥盆统灰岩中发现大量多期次下石炭统杜内阶之灰岩岩脉;通过调查,查明岩脉的形态、沉积物特征、时代及其分布规律,首次在沉积岩脉中采获早石炭世早期牙形刺及Gnathodus与Siphnodella大量混生的现象。经过调查研究,对岩脉的成因有新的认识: 其形成是构造与地震相结合的产物,地震造成台地的隆升、沉降,使上泥盆统已成岩的刚性灰岩发生断裂,形成较深层的张性(拉张)裂隙,早石炭世未成岩的软沉积物及碎屑灌入裂隙中,形成灰岩脉。多期次的构造运动、拉张,造成张性裂隙的多次的张裂,多期次灌入则形成似直立产状的岩墙。这一成因模式既能合理解释岩脉中具有地震造成的液化脉之现象,又能解释形成如此深度岩脉的动力因素,也能解释台地边缘相中有深水相的沉积物及生物之物质来源。通过对岩脉的调查及研究,对理解右江盆地的构造演化具有重要的意义。  相似文献

Phanerozoic strata are distributed in several north-south trending zones in the central part of the Changning-Menglian Belt. Four types of Devonian to Triassic stratigraphic successions can be identified: (1) elastics with limestone lenses in the mid-section, changing up-section into alternations of fine elastics and cherts; (2) elastics with chert intercalations and limestone lenses, and topped by Permian basic volcanics; (3) elastics-basic volcanics-carbonates-clastics; and (4) limestones, dolomitic limestones-dark gray thin-bedded limestones, argillaceous limestones, mudstones and siliceous mudstones. Devonian to Triassic cherts occur in different horizons and different zones from east to west. These cherts are usually transitional to their neighboring elastics. There is no continuous Devonian to Middle Triassic chert sequence in the central zone of the Changning-Menglian Belt as Liu et al. (1991,1993) reported. The Avdella Mélange in the northern Pindos Mountains and its equivalent formation, the Loggitsion Unit in the Othris Mountains expose early Mesozoic (Mid-Late Triassic) oceanic fragments beneath the Western Greek Ophiolite Belt of the Inner Hellenides, Northern Greece. The mélange consists of locally interfingering blocks and slices of ribbon radiolarite, radiolarian chert and pillow basalt and is usually overthrust by Jurassic ophiolites. New Middle and Upper Triassic radiolarian biostratigraphic data are presented from radiolarites and basalt-radiolarite sequences within mélange blocks. Pillow basalts associated with the radiolarites provide clues to the opening of the Neotethyan ocean basin. The radiolarians indicate a Middle Triassic age (latest Anisian, probably early Illyrian), which is documented for the first time in the northern Pindos Mountains. The new radiolarian biostratigraphic data suggest that rift-type basalt volcanism already began in pre-Ladinian time (late Scythian?—Anisian). These basalts were then overlain by Upper Anisian to Carnian (?Norian) radiolarites.  相似文献

A new stratigraphic nomenclature is proposed for the approximately 600 m thick, mainly clastic transitional sequence between the underlying Mempelam Limestone and overlying Kubang Pasu/Singa Formation in northwest Peninsular Malaysia. This sequence represents shallow marine deposits of the continental margin of the Sibumasu Terrane during the Middle Palaeozoic (Devonian–Carboniferous). It is separated into several formations. The Timah Tasoh Formation is an approximately 76 m sequence consisting of 40 m of laminated tentaculitid shales at the base, containing Monograptus yukonensis Jackson and Lenz and Nowakia (Turkestanella) acuaria Alberti, giving an Early Devonian (Pragian–Emsian) age, and about 36 m of rhythmically interbedded, light coloured argillo-arenites. The Chepor Formation is about 90 m thick and consists mainly of thick red mudstone interbedded with sandstone beds, of Middle to Late Devonian age. A new limestone unit is recognized and named the Sanai Limestone, which contains conodonts of Famennian age. The Binjal Formation consists of red and white mudstone interbedded with sandstone beds showing Bouma sequences. The Telaga Jatoh Formation is 9 m thick and consists mainly of radiolarian chert. The Wang Kelian Formation is composed of thick red mudstone beds interbedded with silty sandstone, and contain fossils indicative of an Early Carboniferous (Visean) age. The succession was deposited on the outer shelf, with depositional environments vertically fluctuating from prodelta to basinal marine. The Devonian–Carboniferous boundary is exposed at Hutan Aji and Kampung Guar Jentik, and indicates a major regressive event during the latest Devonian.  相似文献

The Middle Permian to Lower Triassic Buday’ah section, exposed in the Oman Mountains, is the first deep-sea section to be described in the Neotethys. The oceanic sediments were deposited along the southern Tethys margin in the newly formed Hawasina Basin. It is one of the few places where true Tethyan Permian radiolarites are exposed that allow the documentation of CCD evolution through time. The succession begins as oceanic crust pillow basalt with red ammonoid-rich pelagic limestone occurring both above and within inter-pillow cavities; the new occurrence of Clarkina postbitteri hongshuiensis indicates a late Capitanian age for the carbonate. The sharp change to overlying late Capitanian to Changhsingian radiolarite reflects rapid subsidence about 10 Myrs after initial continental breakup that resulted in the formation of the Neotethys Ocean. New conodonts indicate that the Permian-Triassic boundary succession occurs in the first platy lime mudstone beds above a Changhsingian siliceous to calcareous shale unit. The platy lime mudstone beds include an Upper Griesbachian bloom of calcite filled spheres (radiolarians?) that marks a potential world-wide event. New conodonts indicate an early Olenekian age for overlying grey papery limestone that are devoid of both macrofossils and trace fossils indicating that recovery from the Late Permian extinction has not yet progressed within this deep-water environment.δ13Corg, isotope values have not been disturbed and they show a negative shift just below the Permian-Triassic transition and a second one at the parvus zone level above. The Buday’ah succession may represent the most distal and probably deepest Permian and Lower Triassic depositional sequence within the basin.  相似文献

The island of Ishigaki Jima, located in the western part of the southern Ryukyu Arc, Japan, is underlain by a basement comprising the Tumuru and Fu-saki formations. The former is a pelitic glaucophane schist with a metamorphic age of 220–190 Ma, and the latter is a weakly metamorphosed accretionary complex, composed mainly of chert, mudstone and sandstone with minor amounts of limestone and mafic rocks. The Fu-saki Formation was weakly metamorphosed at ∼140 Ma. Latest Carboniferous–Early Jurassic microfossils have been obtained from the limestones, cherts and siliceous mudstones of this formation, but no fossils have been collected from the phyllitic mudstones. The radiolarian fauna of the phyllitic mudstones described herein indicates a late Pliensbachian–early Toarcian (Early Jurassic) age. This result, when combined with existing data, enables the reconstruction of an oceanic plate stratigraphy, showing a succession of (in ascending order) Upper Carboniferous–Triassic cherts, Sinemurian–lower Pliensbachian siliceous mudstones and upper Pliensbachian–lower Toarcian phyllitic mudstones and sandstones. The radiolarians from the phyllitic mudstones are important in constraining the timing of the accretion of the Fu-saki Formation to the base of the Tumuru Formation.  相似文献

Measurement of the differential denudation between chert and limestone in a Carboniferous limestone sequence that was cut during excavations for a railway tunnel (in 1865) has provided a means of assessing limestone dissolution rates in a valley side setting in the southern Pennines over the last ∼150 years. Dissolution rates of 0.031 mm/annum have been determined. This rate falls within the range of previously determined limestone dissolution rates in the UK, which have been described in the context of different methods of measurement and the difference in denudations rates over time.  相似文献

The Early Palaeoproterozoic Brockman Supersequence comprises banded iron formation (BIF), bedded chert, limestone, mudrock, sandstone, breccia, tuffaceous mudstone, ashfall tuff and, in sections not reported here, basalt and rhyolite. Density current rhythms are preserved in sandstones, mudrocks, tuffaceous mudstones and limestones. Relics of similar rhythms in BIF imply that its precursor sediments were also deposited by density currents. Hemipelagic deposits are siliciclastic or mixed siliciclastic–volcaniclastic mudstones. Bedded chert, chert nodules and the chert matrix of BIF preserve evidence for formation by diagenetic replacement. For bedded chert (and chert nodules), silica replacement occurred before compaction close to or at the sediment–water interface, indicating that it is siliceous hardground. The chert matrix of BIF formed during compaction but before burial metamorphism. Original sediments were resedimented from two sources: (1) limestone, mudrock, sandstone, breccia and tuffaceous mudstone from a shelf; and (2) BIF from within the basin realm. Shelf sediments were resedimented to basin-floor fans during third-order lowstands. The precursor sediments to BIF are interpreted to have been granular hydrothermal muds, composed of iron-rich smectite and particles of iron oxyhydroxide and siderite that were deposited on the flanks of submarine volcanoes and resedimented by density currents. Resedimentation occurred by either bottom currents or gravity-driven turbidity currents, and the resulting sediment bodies may have been contourite drifts. The concept that BIF records high-frequency alternating precipitation from ambient sea water of iron minerals and silica is negated by this study. Instead, it is postulated that the precursor sediments to BIF originated in much the same way as modern Red Sea hydrothermal iron oxide deposits, implying that at least the particles of iron oxyhydroxide originated from the oxidation of vent fluids by sea water. Several orders of cyclicity in basin filling establish a relationship between rising to high sea levels, episodic sea-floor hydrothermal activity and BIF that is reminiscent of the link between eustacy and spreading-ridge pulses.  相似文献

Chert in the Cow Head Group is mainly a replacement of limestone and shale and, to a lesser extent, an interparticle cement. Its field occurrences are distinct as: (1) silicified margins on coarse conglomerates and thinly bedded limestones; (2) nodules within limestone and shale; (3) pervasively silicified beds of limestone and shale; and (4) clasts or partial replacement of clasts within conglomerate. Radiolarians and sponge spicules are composed of microquartz or calcite and are particularly common in the Ordovician part of the succession where most chert occurs. In limestone spatially associated with chert, the use of cathodoluminescence demonstrates that calcite-replaced radiolarians and spicules are volumetrically more important than realized through transmitted-light petrography. Petrographic relations between siliceous and rare pyritized radiolarians further indicate that these particles may be dissolved prior to compaction. No trace of their former existence remains, other than indirectly through the presence of silicified limestone and shale. Crushed grains cemented by chalcedony indicate that chert was precipitated during or after compaction. The history of silicification and the replacement or dissolution of siliceous bioclasts is protracted, ranging from near the sediment-water interface, where it is concomitant with early limestone lithification, to deeper burial, postdating mechanical compaction.  相似文献

东南亚特提斯构造格架复杂,特别是印支板块西缘琅勃拉邦-黎府构造带构造演化及区域构造线连接更是争议不断. 通过老挝西北部填图工作,首次在黎府构造带北部南莫溪地区发现保存完整的蛇绿混杂岩,为探讨黎府构造带的属性以及区域古地理格局,选取了蛇绿混杂岩中的含放射虫硅质岩、辉长岩以及洋岛海山中的礁灰岩,开展了岩相学、古生物学、锆石LA?ICP?MS U?Pb年代学、岩石地球化学研究. 结果表明,该蛇绿混杂岩出露端元包括蛇纹岩、蛇纹石化橄榄岩、辉长岩、辉绿岩、玄武岩和硅质岩,蛇绿岩套层序特征完整;辉长岩LA?ICP?MS锆石U?Pb年龄为350.4±3.3 Ma,成岩为早石炭世;洋岛海山中珊瑚种属为Thamnopora sp.和Paracravenia sp.,所属时代为中二叠世;硅质岩岩石地球化学元素特征指示其为生物成因,沉积环境为洋盆或开阔的盆地环境,放射虫共鉴定出9属30种,所属时代为中泥盆世-早石炭世. 综合本次研究,反映出南莫溪蛇绿混杂岩所代表的洋盆具有长期的演化历史,从晚泥盆世开始,一直持续到中二叠世还未结束,演化时间至少超过135 Ma,指示了该蛇绿混杂岩代表残留的古特提斯洋盆,而非弧后盆地. 认为黎府构造带向北应与琅勃拉邦构造带相连,且该区域从晚泥盆世开始一直存在古特提斯洋.   相似文献

Late Devonian to Early Carboniferous stratigraphic units within the ‘Zhulumute’ Formation, Hongguleleng Formation (stratotype), ‘Hebukehe’ Formation and the Heishantou Formation near the Boulongour Reservoir in northwestern Xinjiang are fossil-rich. The Hongguleleng and ‘Hebukehe’ formations are biostratigraphically well constrained by microfossils from the latest Frasnian linguiformis to mid-Famennian trachytera conodont biozones. The Hongguleleng Formation (96.8 m) is characterized by bioclastic argillaceous limestones and marls (the dominant facies) intercalated with green spiculitic calcareous shales. It yields abundant and highly diverse faunas of bryozoans, brachiopods and crinoids with subordinate solitary rugose corals, ostracods, trilobites, conodonts and other fish teeth. The succeeding ‘Hebukehe’ Formation (95.7 m) consists of siltstones, mudstones, arenites and intervals of bioclastic limestone (e.g. ‘Blastoid Hill’) and cherts with radiolarians. A diverse ichnofauna, phacopid trilobites, echinoderms (crinoids and blastoids) together with brachiopods, ostracods, bryozoans and rare cephalopods have been collected from this interval. Analysis of geochemical data, microfacies and especially the distribution of marine organisms, which are not described in detail here, but used for facies analysis, indicate a deepening of the depositional environment at the Boulongour Reservoir section. Results presented here concern mainly the sedimentological and stratigraphical context of the investigated section. Additionally, one Late Devonian palaeo-oceanic and biotic event, the Upper Kellwasser Event is recognized near the section base.  相似文献

最近在辽宁本溪牛毛岭剖面上的上石炭统(宾夕法尼亚亚系)本溪组新洞沟段(本溪组中段)的煤系地层中发现了大量鳞木化石。现有资料证明,在牛毛岭剖面本溪组复洲湾段(本溪组上段)灰岩中发现了属于晚石炭世莫斯科期的牙形石,而在牛毛岭剖面邻近地区本溪组湖田段(本溪组下段)中则发现了属于早石炭世(密西西比亚纪)的亚鳞木、大脉羊齿和贝叶。由此认为,新发现的牛毛岭剖面本溪组新洞沟段(本溪组中段)的鳞木化石,应晚于早石炭世,早于晚石炭世莫斯科期,即应属巴什基尔期。鳞木是辽宁东部第一次成煤期滨海沼泽相成煤植物群中的代表性植物。  相似文献

对昌宁—孟连带西区的两个地层问题进行了讨论。根据牙形刺和放射虫的发现将原定为拉巴组的塔拉弄—南雅条带的时代厘定为晚泥盆世至早石炭世 ,时代大致与南皮河群的弄巴组或“中区”的“上泥盆统”相当 ,它们之间的确切关系仍有待进一步研究。怕拍组实际上主体属晚二叠世晚期 ,仅顶部可能包含有少量下三叠统印度阶最底部的沉积。对怕拍组的研究证实了澜沧运动的存在 ,昌宁—孟连带自此开始了由海洋盆地向造山带的演变进程 ,这一过程持续达七千万年之久。  相似文献
