From theH filtergram observations obtained at Ganyu station, identification and statistic works made for Ellerman bombs, it is found that they often occur in the superpenumbra area of a mature sunspot. We suggest a plasmoid model to account for the basic properties of a typical bomb: lifetime 11 min, diameter 5 × 107 cm, accompanying jet velocity 40 km/s, total energy 1027 erg,Te 104 K. First, a numerical simulation is made to prove that plasmoids can be lifted from the solar convective zone by magnetic buoyancy. Between the plasmoid and its surroundings a strong current sheet builds up in which a peculiar MHD (with plasma ponderamotive force) - resistive instability takes place. After the magnetic reconnection has begun, a local explosive instability ensues whose growth rate is so high that it allows the exhaustion of the high temperature particles from the sheet in a short period. In this way, the temperature of a bomb may be kept unchanged or only rise slightly.  相似文献

On the basis of empirical (D)-dependency at the frequency of 5 GHz constructed using 15 planetary nebulae with the independently measured distances (10–171×10–20 W m–2 Hz–1 ster–1), we evaluated distances of 335 objects. Independent evidence of the correctness of the accepted scale are given. Then(D)-dependency is constructed and it is shown that atD<0.08 pc the mean electron density is higher than the one determined by the Seaton method. We showed that the filling factor diminishes with the increase of the PN diameter (1 atD0.08 pc and 0.2 atD0.4 pc). the ionized mass of 33 PNs is determined. With the diameter increase the ionized mass grows and atD0.4 pc reaches the valueM0.07M . We used the new distance scale when investigating the space distribution of PNs. The mean scale height =130±15 pc and the mean gradient of the change of surface densitym=0.37, which allowed us to estimate the total number of nebulae in the GalaxyN4×104. We divided the PNs according to their velocities (withV LSR>35 km s–1 andV LSR<35 km s–1) and permitted us to confirm that the PN belong to different sub-systems of the Galaxy. The estimated local formation rate of PNs [=(4.6±2.2)×10–12 pc–3 yr–1] is a little higher than the one of the white dwarfs. That can be explained by a large number of PNs having binary cores, which used in our sample. The statistical estimation of PN expansion velocity showed thatV ex increases from 5–7 km s–1 (atD0.03 pc) to 40–50 km s–1 (atD0.8 pc).  相似文献

The long-time series of daily means of cosmic-ray intensity observed by four neutron monitors at different cutoff rigidities (Calgary, Climax, Lomnický tít and Huancayo/Haleakala) were analyzed by means of the wavelet transform method in the period range 60 to 1000 days. The contributions of the time evolution of three quasi-periodic cosmic-ray signals (150 d, 1.3 yr and 1.7 yr) to the global one are obtained. While the 1.7-yr quasi-periodicity, the most remarkable one in the studied interval, strongly contributes to the cosmic ray intensity profile of solar cycle 21 (particularly in 1982), the 1.3-yr one, which is better correlated with the same periodicity of the interplanetary magnetic field strength, is present as a characteristic feature for the decreasing phases of the cycles 20 and 22. Transitions between these quasi-periodicities are seen in the wavelet power spectra plots. Obtained results support the claimed difference in the solar activity evolution during odd and even solar activity cycles.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of the study on the periodicity in filament activity. The spectral analysis of the number of filaments shows a basic period at 141 (10.5 yr), at 138 (10.3 yr), and at 144 (10.7 yr) Carrington rotation in the northern and southern hemisphere, respectively.The time series concerning the index of filament activity shows also a typical period at 135 Carrington rotation (10.1 yr) at 144 Carrington rotation (10.7 yr) and at 133 Carrington rotation (9.9 yr), respectively, in the northern and southern hemisphere.The power spectrum analysis of the time series of the filamentary activity in the short-term also yields less pronounced but still noticeable peaks which are statistically significant.  相似文献

Multiband observations of the AM Herculis-type binary CW1103+254 show significant circular polarization (13%) in the J band. Recently, a model with high temperature (kT20 keV) and small dimensionless plasma parameter (104) was suggested for the emitting region. However, it gives negligible polarization in the J band. In this paper, a method, in which the J band polarization and the peak frequency of the spectrum are taken into account, is used to determine T and . For the viewing angle =80° and the magnetic field B=30MG, we find that kT=5.0 keV and =106. The temperature of the emitting region is close to the value (kT=8.7 keV) derived for the region emitting cyclotron lines in VV Puppis. If these radiations arise from the post-shock regions, then these temperatures are significantly lower than those predicted by standard accretion models or the shock structure is inhomogenous and more complex than previously assumed.Paper presented at the IAU Colloquium No. 93 on Cataclysmic Variables. The probable connection between cosmic rays and the electromagnetic state of the interplanetary medium was recognized by Hannes Alfvén as early as 1949 (Alfvén, 1949, 1950); he pointed out that the properties of cosmic rays necessitate a mechanism, external to Earth but within the solar system, capable of accelerating particles to extremely high energies. In advocating the view of local origin for part of the cosmic-ray spectrum, Alfvén and his colleagues developed a very general type of acceleration mechanism called magnetic pumping. The unique data set of the two Voyagers extends over an entire decade (1977–1987) and is most suitable to explore the problem of acceleration of charged particles in the heliosphere. The energy coverage of the Low Energy Charged Particle (LECP) experiment covers the range 30 keV to several hundred MeV for ions and 22 keV to several MeV for electrons. Selected observations of interplanetary acceleration events from 1 to 25 AU are presented and reviewed. These show frequent acceleration of ions to several tens of MeV in association with shocks; highest energies (220 MeV oxygen) were measured in the near-perpendicular ( Bn 87.5°) shock of January 5, 1978 at 1.9 AU, where electron acceleration was also observed. Examples of ion acceleration in association with corotating interaction regions are presented and discussed. It is shown that shock structures have profound effects on high-energy (70 MeV) cosmic rays, especially during solar minimum, when a negative latitudinal gradient was observed after early 1985 at all energies from 70 MeV down to 30 keV. By early 1987, most shock acceleration activity in the outer heliosphere (25 to 30 AU) had ceased both in the ecliptic (Voyager-2) and at higher (30°) ecliptic latitudes (Voyager-1). The totality of observations demonstrate that local acceleration to a few hundred MeV, and as high as a few GeV is continually present throughout the heliosphere. It should be noted that in 1954 when Alfvén suggested local acceleration and containment of cosmic rays within the solar system, no one treated his suggestion seriously, at any energy. A large surge was observed on September 17, 1971, part of which, after travelling 200 000 km through the corona, returned to the surface to form a filament. The filament lasted about 30 min, then rose up and returned to the source of the surge. We interpret this as the filling of a semi-stable magnetic trap.The energetics of radio, X-ray, and surge expulsion are estimated. The radio spectrum and flux correspond to a thermal source of area 4 (arcmin)2, T 190 000 K, N e 2 V 7 × 1048, which is optically deep at 8800 MHz.The soft X-ray source has T 12 × 106 K, N e 2 V 3 × 1048; and if an equal mass is expelled in the surge, the kinetic energy of the surge is similar to the thermal energy of the X-ray source.  相似文献

Recent high resolution near infrared (HST-NICMOS) and mm-interferometric imaging have revealed dense gas and dust accretion disks in nearby ultra-luminous galactic nuclei. In the best studied ultraluminousIR galaxy, Arp 220, the 2m imaging shows dust disks in both of the merging galactic nuclei and mm-CO line imaging indicates molecular gasmasses 109M for each disk. The two gas disks in Arp 220 are counterrotating and their dynamical masses are 2×109 M , that is, only slightly largerthan the gas masses. These disks have radii 100 pc and thickness 10-50 pc. The high brightness temperatures of the CO lines indicatethat the gas in the disks has area filling factors 25-50% and mean densitiesof 104 cm-3. Within these nuclear disks, the rate of massive star formation is undoubtedly prodigious and, given the high viscosity of the gas, there will also be high radial accretion rates, perhaps 10 M yr -1. If this inflow persists to very small radii, it is enough to feed even the highest luminosity AGNs.  相似文献

We observed Faraday rotation of linearly polarized radio waves from the Crab Nebula (Tau A) at 4170 MHz during solar coronal occultations in June 1971–75. Mean amplitudes of the variations of position angle are larger in an active phase of the solar cycle than in a quiet phase. In occultations in 1971 and 1973, the position angle of the polarization varied oscillatory by 20–50 degrees due to local magnetic structures in the corona with a typical scale-length of about 0.5 R . In 1974, we observed a typical variation of position angle of polarization which is expected from a Y-shaped field configuration in coronal streamers.The Faraday rotation is enhanced when the line of sight to Tau A passes through strong coronal magnetic fields computed from magnetograph observations, while the rotation is suppressed when the line of sight passes through large coronal holes observed in X-rays. Short-time oscillation of the rotation angle observed in 1971 and 1973 suggests that neutral sheets in coronal streamers oscillate at a period of 3 hours with an amplitude of 1 R at a distance of 10 R from the Sun.  相似文献

Previous global models of coronal magnetic fields have used a geometrical construction based on a spherical source surface because of requirements for computational speed. As a result they have had difficulty accounting for (a) the tendency of full magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) models to predict non-radial plasma flow out to r 10r and (b) the appreciable magnitude, 3, of B r , (the radial component of B) consistently observed at r 1 AU. We present a new modelling technique based on a non-spherical source surface, which is taken to be an isogauss of the underlying potential field generated by currents in or below the photosphere. This modification of the source surface significantly improves the agreement between the geometrical construction and the MHD solution while retaining most of the computational ease provided by a spherical source surface. A detailed comparison between the present source-surface model and the MHD solution is made for the internal dipole case. The resulting B field agrees well in magnitude and direction with the coronal B field derived from the full MHD equations. It shows evidence of the slightly equatorward meridional plasma flow that is characteristic of the MHD solution. Moreover, the B field obtained by using our non-spherical source surface agrees well with that observed by spacecraft in the vicinity of the Earth's orbit. Applied to a solar dipole field with a moment of 1 G-r 3 , the present model predicts that B r at r 1 AU lies in the range of 1–2 and is remarkably insensitive to heliomagnetic latitude. Our method should be applicable also to more general (i.e., more realistic) configurations of the solar magnetic field. Isogauss surfaces for two representative solar rotations, as calculated from expansions of observed photospheric magnetic-field data, are found to show large and significant deviations from sphericity.  相似文献

We determined the form of the functional dependence of the rate of formation of tracks of galactic cosmic rays in meteorites (/t) on the shielding degree for ordinary chondrites with preatmospheric radius R > 5 cm based on published semiempirical data on /t. The resulting dependence was used to construct a nomogram which allowed us to estimate the ablation of a meteorite according to the average rate of track formation in it and its recovered mass. The calculated ablation of meteorites agrees with the estimates obtained by other methods. The average ablation for 83 ordinary chondrites was found to be equal to 78.4+3.1 –3.4%. The analysis of the data obtained demonstrated that the average preatmospheric mass of chondrites is M 90 kg, and for 95% of the meteorites, the preatmospheric masses fall in the interval 2–3500 kg, which corresponds to radii from 5 to 60 cm. It was found that meteorites with a small preatmospheric mass tend to higher ablation.  相似文献

Dense molecular clouds within the Taurus and NGC 2264 regions have undergone gravitational collapse and fragmentation to form groups of low mass (1M ) T-Tauri stars which are still embedded within the clouds and which are kinematically associated with them. Molecular column densities on the order of 1014 cm–2 are inferred from the emission lines of OH and NH3. Emission line widths are 2 km s–1 and the antenna beamwidths include linear extents of order 0.1 pc. The OH emission appears to be in a condition of local thermodynamic equilibrium, and it cannot arise from circumstellar sheils similar to those surrounding the masing infrared stars. The OH and NH3 emission occurs in clouds of 1 pc in extent with optical depths of 0.1 to 1.0 and excitation temperatures of the order of 10 K. The molecular clouds have radii of 0.5 pc, molecular hydrogen densities of 4000 cm–3, masses of 100 solar masses, and kinetic temperatures of 20 K. A detailed analysis of interstellar measurements in the direction of the Gum nebula is carried out. The ionized region is shown to have an angular radius of 18° and appears to be bounded by a shell of neutral gas. The mean electron temperature deduced from radio-frequency absorption measurements is found to be 8500K. These parameters suggest that the nebula is the normal and possibly evolved Hii region of Pup and 2 Vel, rather than the fossil Strömgren sphere of the Vela supernova as suggested by Brandtet al. An analysis has been made of the narrow intensity spikes occurring in two cosmic gammaray bursts which were observed with a fast time resolution germanium spectrometer on board the low altitude polar orbiting satellite 1972-076B (Imhofet al., 1974a, 1975; Nakanoet al., 1974a). The bursts on 18 December, 1972 and 21 July, 1973, were also recorded on the Vela satellite system. The durations of three spikes were observed to be 0.06 s with the limits being 0.03 to 0.10 s. Four other narrow spikes were measured to have time width limits between 0.001 and 0.10 s. An additional eight spikes had widths less than 0.9 s. During the spikes, the gamma-ray intensities increased by factors of 2 to 10, with a median value of 3. A model of a first generation intermediate star of 5M , with Z=0 has been considered. The model is at an advanced stage of its evolution and has a double shell burning. It burns helium in the inner shell, and hydrogen, via CNO cycle, in the outer shell. =(log/log) T and T =(log/logT) were computed allowing for the oscillations of the relative mass abundance of the reagents in nuclear reactions. Including =(log/log) T and =(log/logT) of mean molecular weight and the effect of the oscillations of abundances due to nuclear reactions, stability was studied. Contrary to the results of the static calculations, we found that instability due to the excitation mechanism provided by the high temperature sensitivity of energy generation rate propagates up to the surface. Thus the model in question was found to be unstable against radial adiabatic pulsations, in its fundamental mode.  相似文献

Spherically symmetric, steady-state, optically thick accretion onto a nonrotating black hole with the mass of is studied. The gas accreting onto the black hole is assumed to be a fully ionized hydrogen plasma withn 0=108 cm–3 andT 0=104 K far from the black hole, and a new approximate expression for the Eddington factor is introduced. The luminosity is estimated to beL=1.875×1033 erg s–1, which primarily arises from the optical surface (1) ofT104 K. The accretion flow is characterized by 1 and (v/c)10. In the optically thin region, the flow remains isothermal, and the increase of temperature occurs at 1. The radiative equilibrium is strictly realized at (v/c)10.  相似文献

The plot of the X-ray luminosity (in 0.5–4.5 KeV band and for Friedmann universe withq 0=+1) of the brightest X-ray QSO at each redshift against redshift shows that the X-ray luminosity increases more or less monotonically with redshift uptoz3. This result has been attributed to the selection effect known as the volume effect. When this selection effect is taken into account in the optical, radio and X-ray windows of the electromagnetic spectrum, a sample of the brightest X-ray QSO's is obtained which shows a small dispersion in X-ray luminosity: logL 1=46.15±0.25. The redshift-X-ray flux density plot for this sample gives slopes of both regression lines which agree, at a confidence level of 95% or greater, with the slopes expected theoretically if the redshifts of the QSO's are cosmological in nature.  相似文献

We present observations of an intense solar flare hard X-ray burst on 1980 June 27, made with a balloon-borne array of liquid nitrogen-cooled germanium detectors which provided unprecedented spectral resolution (1 keV FWHM). The hard X-ray spectra throughout the impulsive phase burst fitted well to a double power-law form, and emission from an isothermal 108–109K plasma can be specifically excluded. The temporal variations of the spectrum indicate that the hard X-ray burst is made up of two superposed components: individual spikes lasting 3–15 s, whch have a hard spectrum and a break energy of 30–65 keV; and a slowly varying component characterized by a soft spectrum with a constant low-energy slope and a break energy which increases from 25 keV to 100 keV through the event. The double power-law shape indicates that acceleration by DC electric fields parallel to the magnetic field, similar to that occurring in the Earth's auroral zone, may be the source of the energetic electrons which produce the hard X-ray emission. The total potential drop required for flares is typically 102 kV compared to 10 kV for auroral substorms.  相似文献

We present a model for high-energy solar flares to explain prompt proton and electron acceleration, which occurs around moving X-point magnetic fields during the implosion phase of the current sheet. We derive the electromagnetic fields during the strong implosion of the current sheet, which is driven by the converging flow toward the center of the magnetic arcade. We investigated a test particle motion in the strong electromagnetic fields derived from the MHD equations. It is shown that both protons and electrons can be promptly (within 1 s) accelerated to 70 and 200 MeV, respectively. This acceleration mechanism can be applicable for the impulsive phase of the gradual gamma-ray and proton flares (gradual GR/P flare), which have been called two-ribbon flares.  相似文献

The temporal and spatial variations of EUV emission from a small growing active region were investigated. Frequent localized short term ( few minutes) fluctuations in EUV emission were observed throughout the 7.2 hr interval when the most continuous observations were acquired. Approximately 20% of the 5 x 5 pixels had intensity variations exceeding a factor of 1.3 for the chromospheric L line, a factor of 1.5 for lines formed in the chromospheric-coronal transition region and a factor of 1.4 for the coronal Mg x line. A subflare in the region produced the largest intensity enhancements, ranging from a factor of 2.3 for the chromospheric L line to 8 for the transition region and coronal lines. The EUV fluctuations in this small active region are similar to those observed in coronal bright points, suggesting that impulsive heating is an important, perhaps dominant form of heating the upper chromospheric and lower coronal plasmas in small magnetic bipolar regions. The responsible mechanism most likely involves the rapid release of magnetic energy, possibly associated with the emergence of magnetic flux from lower levels into the chromosphere and corona.  相似文献
