To assess the pollution of heavy metal in dust fall, nine dust fall samples were collected during the heating period and non-heating period from Jinan, a city in northeastern China. The samples were analyzed for Cu, Pb, Zn and Cr and the contamination level of heavy metals was assessed on the basis of the geo-accumulation index (I geo). The results indicated that all of the four investigated metals accumulated significantly in the dust fall of Jinan, and the metal concentrations were much higher than background values. During the heating period, the mean values for Cu, Pb, Zn and Cr in the dust fall were 354.9, 688.5, 2,585.5 and 478.6 mg kg−1. During the non-heating period, the mean values for Cu, Pb, Zn and Cr in the dust fall were 228.2, 518.2, 1,933.9 and 96.3 mg kg−1, respectively. The I geo values calculated based on background values revealed that the contamination level of heavy metal in the dust fall ranges from moderately contaminated to heavily contaminated, and it mainly originates from traffic and industry. In this work, the dust fall residue compared to the standard reference was also chosen as the background value to calculate the I geo value. This method is useful for situations in which the background value is difficult to obtain.  相似文献

Human activities have an impact on extant biotic communities, and may have had just as important an impact in the past. We assess human impact on limpet assemblages during the Upper Palaeolithic in Asturias (north‐west Spain). The intensely exploited genus Patella exhibited a marked size decrease and a change in species assemblage composition, substituting the larger species P. vulgata for the smaller P. depressa. The present Patella assemblages in the upper tidal level exhibit the same pattern as those of the Epipalaeolithic (approx. 12 000 to 6000 years before the present). Although climate change may have contributed to such species replacement, spatial differences between close areas with different densities of Palaeolithic human settlements indicate unequivocal human impact. Present Patella species sampled from the region exhibit genetic signatures of past bottlenecks in mitochondrial DNA, which also indicate recent demographic expansion, suggesting that old impacts have been sufficiently important to leave genetic traces in current populations. Four massive brecciated, chimney-like, and slender pipe network carbonate samples(JA-4, JA-5, JX-8 and BG-12) were collected from southwestern Taiwan, which were suggested to have formed as a result of anaerobic oxidization of methane(AOM). Considering that the environmental conditions of the carbonates precipitation and the sources of carbon and organic matter need to be further declared, molecular fossils and compound-specific carbon isotopic investigations of the carbonates were conducted in this study. According to lipid biomarkers of 2,6,10,15,19-pentamethyleicosane(PMI) and squalane diagnostic to methanotrophic archaea, as well as the extremely low δ13C values(as low as -113.4‰) detected in samples JA-4, JA-5 and JX-8, these carbonates were revealed to be a result of AOM. Based on the varied δ13C values of characteristic archaea biomarkers in specific samples, biogenic methane was proposed to be responsible for the formation of samples JA-4 and JA-5, whereas a mixed carbon source of 13C-depleted methane and 13C-enriched residual CO_2 from methanogenesis was suggested for the carbonate of JX-8 due to the co-occurrence of a highly positive δ13 Ccarb value(+8‰) and a moderate 13C depletion of PMI. The low content of AOM-related biomarkers and the absence of indicators for ANME-2 suggested that these carbonates were formed in weak seep settings. By comparison, no typical lipid biomarkers for methanotrophic archaea was detected in carbonate BG-12. The short-chain and long-chain n-alkanes accounted for 30% and 45% of all hydrocarbons, respectively, with a CPI value of 1.2, suggesting that the n-alkanes were derived from both marine organisms and terrestrial inputs. A low thermal maturity could be revealed by the incomplete equilibrium value of the C31αβ 22S/(22S+22R) ratio(0.5), and the carbonate BG-12 was probably deposited in a suboxic condition indicated by a value of Pr/Ph ratio(2.5).  相似文献

A detailed crystal chemical study of coexisting olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene and spinel from selected Victorian (Australia) lherzolite suites was carried out by means of single crystal x-ray diffraction and electron probe microanalysis to obtain actual site occupancies. The aim of this study was primarily to characterise the intracrystalline configurations and related cation ordering on sites in major mantle constituents. The results demonstrate that cation ordering on sites is subject to distinctive crystallographic controls which depend on the petrological evolution of the suite. Mg-Fe2+ ordering in M1–M2 pyroxene sites depends on variations of the smaller cations, mainly Alvi, Ti4+, Fe3+, and related configurations of M 1. Pressuresensitive Alvi is crucial to Fe2+, the more ordered clinopyroxene showing high Alvi configurations which tend to exclude the larger bivalent cations and yield small polyhedral volumes for M 1, M 2, T sites and the unit cell. Conversely, the coexisting orthopyroxene, characterised by lower Alvi configuration and higher M 1 and unit cell volumes, is relatively more disordered. Olivine is consistent with the coexisting clinopyroxene, the more disordered crystals coexisting with more disordered clinopyroxene, while Al-Mg order in the coexisting spinel shows the reverse relationship. Estimated temperatures of apparent equilibration based on current geothermometers are not considered realistic. Assumptions of ideal cation mixing on sites in pyroxene and spinel are not supported.  相似文献

Marine reservoir age is reported for Foxe Basin, Canada, during deglaciation of the Laurentide Ice Sheet. Radiocarbon (14C) measurements were made on pairs of contemporaneous molluscs and Salix (willow) macrofossils, yielding a mean marine reservoir age of 985 ± 10 14C a. Mean regional ΔR is calculated to be 615 ± 20 14C a relative to a mean global reservoir age of ca. 400 14C a. Previous studies in the Canadian Arctic that have been conducted on modern pre‐bomb molluscs give ΔR values of ca. 100–300 14C a. The difference between modern and deglacial reservoir ages indicates that ΔR in Foxe Basin has changed over time, which has implications for the reconstruction of past events based on marine 14C dates. We recalculate the timing of deglaciation of Hudson Strait with this new reservoir age and relate this to the 8.2 cal. ka event. We recommend that local ΔR be determined for the time period being examined whenever possible, and that in cases where this is impossible a ΔR value of 615 14C a be applied when calibrating marine samples from Foxe Basin and vicinity during deglaciation. First phase folds F1 developed in polydeformed Ajabgarh Group rocks of Proterozoic age are studied using various geometrical methods of analysis for compatibility of homogeneous strain in both class 1–3 pairs by correlatingt′ ga/α plots with existing curves for competent layers and matchingt ga/α plots with the flattening curves for the incompetent layers. F1 folds were initiated by the process of buckling but underwent [(λ21) = 0.2 to 0.7] for competent layers andR- values of 1.1 to 5 for incompetent layers. The varying flattening is also revealed by the geometry of folds. The apparent buckle shortening of folds which ranges between 49 and 67 per cent with a majority of the folds having shortening values between 50% and 55% (exclusive of layer parallel strain) and inverse thickness method strain up to 50%. Besides flattening, the fold geometry was also modified by the pressure solution. This is borne by the presence of dark seams rich in phyllosilicates and disseminated carbonaceous material offsetting limbs of buckled quartz veins in slates  相似文献

Vertical dust fluxes were measured in the Inland Delta region of the Niger River, Mali, West Africa, during April-June, 1989 and 1990. Measurements of dust flux represent, for the most part, non-dust storm conditions or ‘dust haze’ periods. The observed concentration versus height relationships are similar to data presented by other investigators. The relationship between wind shear velocity (u*, m s?1) and vertical dust flux (F, μg m?2 s?1) can be described by a relationship in which F is proportional to u*4. However, there is considerable scatter within the data set which is attributable to textural controls and surface conditions. The vertical dust fluxes measured in Mali are compared to dust fluxes measured in Texas, USA, and Yukon Territories, Canada. The significantly different values for the constant of proportionality (a) in the F α a u*4 relationship for these geographically diverse areas is a function of surficial controls on the release of sediments to the air stream. Dust concentrations measured in Mali were found to be uniformly high and in general exceed WHO health standards for acceptable total suspended particulate loadings. As a result background dust may be considered a long term stress on health for the people of this region of Mali.  相似文献

In the north-western Gawler Craton of South Australia, the Karari Shear Zone defines a boundary between late-Archean to earliest Paleoproterozoic rocks, which have remained largely undisturbed since the earliest Paleoproterozoic, and younger Paleoproterozoic rocks that have been reworked through multiple late Paleoproterozoic and Mesoproterozoic metamorphic and deformation events. The history of movement across the Karari Shear Zone has been investigated via new U–Pb and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, in combination with pre-existing geochronological and metamorphic constraints, as well as the structural geometry revealed by a recently acquired reflection seismic transect. The available data suggest a complex history of shear-zone movement in at least four stages, with contrasting sense of motion at different times. The first period of movement across the Karari Shear Zone is inferred to have been a period of extension at ca 1750–1720 Ma. This was likely closely followed by reactivation during the Kimban Orogeny between ca 1720 and 1680 Ma, although the sense of movement during this period is unclear. Further reactivation, in a thrust sense, occurred between ca 1580 and 1560 Ma, resulting in significant exhumation of marginal domains of the Gawler Craton to the north of the Karari Shear Zone. A final episode of largely strike-slip shear-zone movement occurred at ca 1450 Ma.  相似文献

Geochronological investigations in high- and ultra-high-pressure metamorphic rocks are problematic since firstly the low temperatures lead to fine grain size and disequilibrium assemblages, and secondly the problem of “excess argon” affects 40Ar-39Ar systematics, the most commonly used isotopic system. The Tavsanli Zone is a belt of high-pressure low-temperature (HP-LT) rocks spanning NW Turkey and is one such region where previous geochronological studies have produced a range of estimates for the age of HP-LT metamorphism, raising the question of whether they are geologically significant. This study presents new data from the Tavsanli Zone; 40Ar-39Ar ages are in the range 60 Ma to 175 Ma, whilst Rb-Sr ages are restricted to 79.7 Ma to 82.8 Ma, confirming the presence of excess argon. Detailed ultra-violet laser ablation microprobe (UVLAMP) studies have revealed younger 40Ar-39Ar ages in the cores of coarser white micas, which in conjunction with 40Ar-39Ar ages from the finest grained lithologies and the Rb-Sr white mica crystallisation ages, constrain the post-HP-LT metamorphism exhumation rates of these rocks. Petrological and regional constraints suggest that syn-subduction exhumation and cooling took place initially by synchronous subduction and exhumation by underplating. This is followed by a phase of syn-continent-continent collision at a rate of approximately 1.5 mma−1 and exhumation to the surface via thrusting. The 40Ar-39Ar hornblende data from a granodiorite intruding the HP-LT rocks constrain the later parts of exhumation path. Randomness in the occurrence of lithologies in a cyclical succession is evaluated in terms of entropies which can be calculated from a Markov chain matrix. Two types of entropies are linked with every lithologic state; one is the entropy before deposition E (pre) and the other is that after deposition E (post),which together form an entropy set. The entropy sets for pebbly sandstone, sandstone, shale, and coal for the Karharbari coal measures, and sandstone, shale, carbonaceous shale, and coal for the Barakar coal measures were plotted separately and compared with Hattori's idealized plots. These coal measures probably were essentially of symmetrical cyclical pattern (Type-B)of Hattori. The entropy of the whole sedimentation unit readily fits under the broad framework of fluvial cycles.  相似文献

Stable carbon isotope analysis of terrestrial plant leaves preserved in Quaternary lake sediments has the potential to provide high‐resolution reconstructions of past climatic conditions. Preferably, δ13C measurements should be made on a single leaf component, e.g. cellulose, but this approach is often precluded by limited leaf availability. Previous work suggests that reliable palaeoclimatic information also may be derived from δ13C measurements on whole‐leaf tissue, given a similar degree of leaf decomposition between samples. Leaf δ13C data for 12 Scandinavian species of dwarf‐shrubs, shrubs and trees, and a comparison of δ13C data on recent and late Holocene Salix herbacea leaves, revealed that the δ13C signal registered by holocellulose is largely reflected by measurements on whole‐leaf tissue. Holocellulose was found to be consistently enriched in 13C, although this δ13C offset was smaller for subfossil leaves. This supports the use of δ13C measurements on whole‐leaf tissue for climate reconstruction, at least for leaves preserved in soft, late Holocene sediments with minimal diagenetic effects. Leaf carbon and nitrogen data on fresh leaves of the same 12 Scandinavian species, and corresponding data on late Holocene Salix herbacea leaves, suggest that the leaf C:N ratio is a suitable indicator of the degree of leaf decomposition. Resource estimation from historical data: Mercury, a test case   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
A simple technique based on historical records of tonnage and grade of ore produced provides a means for calculating how much of a mineral product will be available in the future at various average grades. Estimates made on this basis are independent of geologic considerations or changing economic and political factors, although they are based on mining history, which was largely determined by these factors. The relatively minor element, mercury, was used for the test case reported here, but the method has been found applicable to forecasts of resources for other mineral products. Mercury resources available in ore in which the average grade is as low as 0.1% are estimated to be 53 ×10 6 kg (1.5 ×10 6 flasks) for the United States and 1551 ×10 6 kg (45 ×10 6 flasks) for the world; this amount is more than adequate to meet predicted demand to the year 2000. The expectable price of mercury in 1978 dollars at this 0.1% grade is projected to be $58.75 per kg ($2,025 per flask), but at a 10% annual inflation rate, it would be more than $12,000 per flask. To satisfy just the projected U.S. demand for mercury by 2000, the price is calculated to be $48.96 per kg ($1,688 per flask) in 1978 dollars at an average annual grade of 0.12%.  相似文献

Oxygen isotopes are an attractive target for zoning studies because of the ubiquity of oxygen‐bearing minerals and the dependence of mineral 18O/16O ratios on temperature and fluid composition. In this study, subtle intragrain oxygen isotope zoning in titanite is resolved at the 10‐μm scale by secondary ion mass spectrometry. The patterns of δ18O zoning differ depending on microstructural context of individual grains and reflect multiple processes, including diffusive oxygen exchange, partial recrystallization, grain‐size reduction, and grain growth. Using the chronological framework provided by structural relations, these processes can be related to specific events during the Grenville orogeny. Titanite was sampled from two outcrops within the Carthage‐Colton Mylonite Zone (CCMZ), a long‐lived shear zone that ultimately accommodated exhumation of the Adirondack Highlands from beneath the Adirondack Lowlands during the Ottawan phase (1090–1020 Ma) of the Grenville orogeny. Titanite is hosted in the Diana metasyenite complex, which preserves three sequentially developed fabrics: an early NW‐dipping protomylonitic fabric (S1) is crosscut by near‐vertical ultramylonitic shear zones (S2), which are locally reoriented by a NNW‐dipping mylonitic fabric (S3). Texturally early titanite (pre‐S2) shows diffusion‐dominated δ18O zoning that records cooling from peak Ottawan, granulite‐facies conditions. Numerical diffusion models in the program Fast Grain Boundary yield good fits to observed δ18O profiles for cooling rates of 50 ± 20 °C Ma?1, which are considerably faster than the 1–5 °C Ma?1 cooling rates previously inferred for the Adirondack Highlands from regional thermochronology. High cooling rates are consistent with an episode of rapid shearing and exhumation along the CCMZ during gravitational collapse of the Ottawan orogen at c. 1050 Ma. Texturally later titanite (syn‐S2) has higher overall δ18O and shows a transition from diffusion‐dominated to recrystallization‐dominated δ18O zoning, indicating infiltration of elevated‐δ18O fluids along S2 shear zones and continued shearing below the blocking temperature for oxygen (~≤500 °C for grain sizes at the study site). The texturally latest titanite (post‐S3) has growth‐dominated δ18O zoning, consistent with porphyroblastic grain growth following cessation of shearing along the Harrisville segment of the CCMZ.  相似文献

Flux-grown crystals of Mg-cordierite, Mg1.93 Al3.95 Si5.07 O18 synthesized by Lee and Pentecost (1976) appear biaxial (2V x=10°–25°) under the polarizing microscope whereas their distortion index =0°. Between crossed polars, (001) sections display lamellar and cyclic twinning on {110} and, less frequently, {310}. As duration of annealing at 1,300° C, increased, 2V x increased. Simultaneously, undulatory extinction and intragrain variations in 2V x increased slightly up to 4 h annealing, then steadily decreased. For this Mg-cordierite, which lacks significant channel H2O or CO2, 2V x and reach maxima of 88° (=589 nm) and 0.25° after 42 h of annealing but other sectors still display lesser values for 2V x. Presumably, to the extent 2V x is less than 88°, these sectors represent intergrown submicros copically twinned orthorhombic domains and thus possess shortrange but not long-range order. Annealing at 1,300° C likely increased long-range order by promoting growth of larger domains at the expense of smaller ones. Ultimately, two differently oriented domains, growing toward each other by annexation (and re-orientation) of smaller domains, meet in a twin boundary that, with time, tends to become straight.The cause of intermediate values for , whether compositional or from submicroscopic {110} or {310} twinning, may be revealed by single crystal X-ray photographs. Streaking of diffraction spots along a* or b* (but not c*) will indicate such twinning as the sole or major cause.  相似文献

In this study, a ca. 4000 cal. yr ancient lacustrine (or wetland) sediment record at the southern margin of Tarim Basin is used to reconstruct the history of climate change. Six radiocarbon dates on organic matter were obtained. δ18O and δ13C of carbonate, pollen and sediment particle size were analysed for climate proxies. The proxies indicate that a drier climate prevailed in the area before ca. 1010 BC and during period 1010 BC–AD 500 climate then changed rapidly and continuously from dry to moist, but after about AD 500 climate generally shows dry condition. Several centennial‐scale climatic events were revealed, with the wettest spell during AD 450–550, and a relatively wetter interval between AD 930–1030. Pollen results show that regional climate may influence human agricultural activities. Spectral analysis of mean grain size (MGS) proxy reveals statistically pronounced cyclic signals, such as ca. 200 yr, ca. 120 yr, ca. 90 yr, ca. 45 yr and ca. 33 or 30 yr, which may be associated with solar activities, implying that solar variability plays an important role in the decadal‐ and centennial‐scale climate variations in the study area. In this article, we document a detailed analytical characterisation of zircon M127, a homogeneous 12.7 carat gemstone from Ratnapura, Sri Lanka. Zircon M127 has TIMS‐determined mean U–Pb radiogenic isotopic ratios of 0.084743 ± 0.000027 for 206Pb/238U and 0.67676 ± 0.00023 for 207Pb/235U (weighted means, 2s uncertainties). Its 206Pb/238U age of 524.36 ± 0.16 Ma (95% confidence uncertainty) is concordant within the uncertainties of decay constants. The δ18O value (determined by laser fluorination) is 8.26 ± 0.06‰ VSMOW (2s), and the mean 176Hf/177Hf ratio (determined by solution ICP‐MS) is 0.282396 ± 0.000004 (2s). The SIMS‐determined δ7Li value is ?0.6 ± 0.9‰ (2s), with a mean mass fraction of 1.0 ± 0.1 μg g?1 Li (2s). Zircon M127 contains ~ 923 μg g?1 U. The moderate degree of radiation damage corresponds well with the time‐integrated self‐irradiation dose of 1.82 × 1018 alpha events per gram. This observation, and the (U–Th)/He age of 426 ± 7 Ma (2s), which is typical of unheated Sri Lankan zircon, enable us to exclude any thermal treatment. Zircon M127 is proposed as a reference material for the determination of zircon U–Pb ages by means of SIMS in combination with hafnium and stable isotope (oxygen and potentially also lithium) determination.  相似文献

高锰酸盐指数(CODMn)、硝酸根(NO-3)、铵根(NH+4)是判断水体是否受到三氮污染的重要指标。对于测定这三个指标的水样保存方式和时间,地质行业标准和国内外主要国家标准间存在明显差异。地质行业标准规定地下水样品原水室温保存,CODMn和NH+4在3天内测定;NO-3在20天内测定;国家标准和美国标准推荐样品硫酸酸化,避光或冷藏保存,在2~7天内完成CODMn和NO-3和1~7天内完成NH+4测试。为了分析各类标准在样品保存要求上的差异对检测结果的影响,确保检测数据能真实地反映水体污染状况,找寻简便的保存方式,本文在广州地区采集地下水,按照地质行业标准与国家标准进行处理和保存,并在不同时间段对三个指标进行测试。分析验证结果表明:地质行业标准与国家和美国标准关于水样的保存方法均非常可靠。地质行业标准主要针对静态地下水,保存方法相对宽松;国家标准和美国标准适用范围除了地下水,还包括动态的地表水和废水,采样对象成分更为复杂,更不稳定,更容易受外界影响发生变化,故保存条件高于地质标准。在广州地区,采用原水室温避光保存水样,CODMn、NH+4保存时间可为5天,NO-3保存时间可为30天;采用酸化水室温保存水样,CODMn、NO-3和NH+4保存时间可长达30天。这两种方式均比地质行业标准和国家标准推荐的有效时间长,且原水和酸化水室温保存方式相对于冷藏保存方式更为方便。本文提出,如果采集的水样能方便、快速送达实验室,可采用原水保存;如果不能在短时间内送达实验室检测,可采用硫酸酸化保存。  相似文献

 Single crystals of synthetic vanadium-, chromium- and cobalt-bearing garnets, Pyr:V0.06, Pyr:V0.13, Pyr:Cr0.04, Pyr:Co0.10, and Gt:Co3.00, and a natural vanadium-bearing grossular, Gross:V0.07 (Cr3+ < 0.005), were studied by electronic absorption spectroscopy in the wavenumber range 35 000–5000 cm−1 under ambient conditions and at temperatures up to 600 K and pressures up to 8 GPa. The T and P behavior of the absorption band energies and intensities shows the following for the different transition metal-bearing garnets: Cr: The thermal expansion of chromium octahedra are similar to and the Racah parameter the same in synthetic Cr-doped pyrope, αpoly≅ 1.3 × 10−5 K−1, and in natural pyrope, αpoly≅ 1.5 × 10−5 K−1, and B=655 cm−1, respectively. Ca2+[8]-free garnets have a slightly stronger crystal field at the Y[6] site and, therefore, the energies of the two spin-allowed Cr3+ dd bands are ca. 300 cm−1 higher in Mg-pyrope than in natural Ca-bearing pyrope. Co: Increasing temperature causes only a small thermal expansion of the cobalt dodecahedra. Increasing pressure gives rise to appreciable compression, which is similar to that of the Fe2+-dodecahedra in almandine, where k=125 ± 25 GPa. T and P dependence of the Co band intensities may be caused by strong spin-orbit coupling. V: Occurs in at least two valence states and structural sites: (1) V3+ in octahedral sites gives rise to two spin-allowed bands, at 17 220 cm−1 and 24 600 cm−1, whose temperature dependence is typical for spin-allowed dd transitions in centrosymmetric sites. (2) V4+, which causes a set of dd absorption bands similar to those observed in the spectrum of V4+-doped Zr[SiO4].
