A Fractal Interpolatory Approach to Geochemical Exploration Data Processing   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Traditional interpolation procedures used for processing geochemical data treat the data as a continuous smooth surface. In this paper, we proposed a fractal spatial interpolatory procedure based on the concept of the fractional delta variance. The method is suitable for processing the geochemical data that are measured at irregularly spaced discrete points, without resort to gridding procedures. The value at each interpolatory point is a function of the fractal disturbance that is related to the fractal dimension determined from the original data set, thus enhancing reconstruction of the natural spatial distribution of element concentration. The proposed procedure has been applied to the copper geochemical data measured from irregularly-spaced floodplain sediment samples in China. We compared geochemical maps created using different interpolatory procedures, including the new fractal method, the Kriging, and the weighted average, against the actual spatial distribution of copper mineral deposits in China, and found that the new fractal method detected more of known Cu-deposits from the test area than the other two methods.  相似文献

Kii Peninsula is located in the forearc region of southwest Japan and has distinct structural and tectonic features characterized by high seismicity in the crust and the subducting Philippine Sea slab, high surface heat flow, high 3He/4He isotopic ratio, and a local change in the geometry of the subducting slab. We have tried to determine detailed 3-D P and S wave velocity structures of this region using a large number of high-quality arrival time data recorded by dense seismic networks on the Japan Islands. From the obtained seismic velocities, we further estimated 3-D distributions of Poisson ratio, crack density, saturation rate and porosity parameter in the study area. Our results show significant heterogeneities in the crust and upper mantle wedge characterized by low seismic velocities, high Poisson ratio, high values of crack density, saturation rate and porosity. These results suggest the existence of fluids in the crust and mantle wedge resulting from the dehydration of the subducting Philippine Sea slab, which can explain the observed geophysical and geochemical features in Kii Peninsula.  相似文献

Fractal and Multifractal Properties of Geochemical Fields   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12  
A fractal model, introduced by De Wijs to study the distribution, redistribution, or enrichment/depletion of element concentrations in a region, has become widely accepted. This paper uses it to simulate various geochemical fields for element concentration values. The frequency distribution and spatial pattern of the simulated values or concentrations are analyzed by the method of moments and the concentration–area (C–A) model. The spatial pattern of the original De Wijs model is shown to be intrinsically characterized by -shaped and symmetrical multifractal spectrum curves, whose center and width change systematically with the enrichment factors set in the simulation. The corresponding frequency distribution pattern on the log–log plot of frequency versus concentrations is called simple continuous multifractal (SCM) by the authors. In other experiments, when a De Wijs model is locally superimposed by another De Wijs model of different enrichment factors, the symmetry of the multifractal spectrum graph is broken and a different pattern of frequency distribution is found. It is referred to as highly accumulated continuous multifractals (HACM). Concentrations of 12 elements in 1448 rock samples from Shaoguan district, North Guangdong Province, South China, and 12 oil/gas indexes in surface soils from Sangtamu region, Tarim Basin, Northwest China, have been applied. The real geochemical fields, both metallic and oil/gas, are found to be remarkably compatible to those simulated patterns of De Wijs models with backgrounds of various enrichment and different degrees of superimposition, indicating that the frequency and spatial distribution patterns revealed by the authors are most possibly universal features of geochemical fields. It is particularly interesting to note that the major geochemical indicators of oil/gas geochemical fields are closer to the results of De Wijs models with a small enrichment factor, either with or without local superimposition, whereas those of the metallic geochemical field correspond more closely to De Wijs models with a background field of larger enrichment factors. The results obtained herein potentially have important implications in mineral and oil/gas resource assessment.  相似文献

Lengths of all caves in a region have been observed previously to be distributed hyperbolically, like self-similar geomorphic phenomena identified by Mandelbrot as exhibiting fractal geometry. Proper cave lengths exhibit a fractal dimension of about 1.4. These concepts are extended to other self-similar geometric properties of caves with the following consequences.Lengths of a cave is defined as the sum of sizes of passage-filling, linked modular elements larger than the cave-defining modulus. If total length of all caves in a region is a self-similar fractal, it has a fractal dimension between 2 and 3; and the total number of linked modular elements in a region is a self-similar fractal of the same dimension. Cave volume in any modular element size range may be calculated from the distribution.The expected conditional distribution of modular element sizes in a cave, given length and modulus, also is distributed hyperbolically. Data from Little Brush Creek Cave (Utah) agree and yield a fractal dimension of about 2.8 (like the Menger Sponge). The expected number of modular elements in a cave equals approximately the 0.9 power of length of the cave divided by modulus. This result yields an intriguing parlor trick. An algorithm for estimating modular element sizes from survey data provides a means for further analysis of cave surveys.  相似文献

我国建立了包含海量数据的高质量的勘查地球化学数据库,为矿产勘查、环境评价和地质调查等提供了重要的数据支撑。如何高效处理勘查地球化学数据,并从中发掘和识别深层次信息一直是勘查地球化学学科研究的热点和前沿领域。本文在系统调研国内外学者过去十年发表的论著基础上,对勘查地球化学数据处理方法进行分析与对比,从勘查地球化学数据库建设、地球化学异常识别及其不确定性评价等方面概述了我国近十年来在该领域取得的主要研究进展,包括:(1)分形与多重分形模型由于考虑了地球化学空间模式的复杂性和尺度不变性,在全球范围内得到极大的发展和推广,我国学者引领了基于分形与多重分形的勘查地球化学数据处理;(2)机器学习和大数据思维开始在该领域启蒙,并迅速得到关注,正在成为研究热点和前沿领域,我国学者率先开展基于机器学习算法的勘查地球化学大数据挖掘研究;(3)我国学者需要进一步加强勘查地球化学数据缺失值处理以及成分数据闭合效应研究。今后该领域应进一步加强对弱缓地球化学异常识别、异常不确定性评价以及异常识别与其形成机理相结合等方面的研究。  相似文献

The variations of rock magnetism reflect the geological inhomogeneities of the earth's crust, i.e. its petrological-mineralogical and structural organization. The present state of the crust bears meaningful information of its past dynamic processes and evolution. We analysed magnetic susceptibility data series from the boreholes of the German Continental Deep Drilling Project (KTB). By means of spectral and rescaled-range (R/S) analyses we could detect a scaling behaviour of magnetic data series and quantify it in fractal terms. In particular, the R/S method yields more precise results than the Fourier analysis and leads to Hurst coefficients H > 0.5, which means that the magnetic variations exhibit some persistence with depth. Because of the relation between rock magnetism and crustal features, we suggest that the magnetic vertical inhomogeneities in the KTB area can be described by a self-affine model with H 0.8, corresponding to a fractal dimension D 1.2.  相似文献

Carbon, oxygen and hydrogen isotope variations have been measured in samples from the epithermal fluorite vein deposit at Monte delle Fate, Latium. The ranges in 13C and 18O of calcite are –1.3 to 3.4 and 9.5 to 17.3, respectively. D values of water extracted from fluid inclusions are –49 to –39 for calcite and –41 to –34 for fluorite. Fluid inclusion filling temperatures (225°–240°C) and salinites (3.75) are nearly the same for both fluorite and sparry calcite. An elongated form of calcite, of minor abundance, precipitated at lower temperatures. The data indicate that (1) the CO2 involved in the mineralization was provided by the local marine limestones, (2) the waters were meteoric in origin and underwent an 18O shift of 10 permil by exchange with marine country rocks, and (3) all geochemical features can be explained by the action of two hydrothermal fluids. Hot brines recently discovered in the Cesano geothermal area, 30 km to the east, have temperatures and some chemical characteristics similar to the hydrothermal fluids at Monte delle Fate.  相似文献

The mean residence times of chemical elements in the ocean are usually evaluated assuming that supply and removal rates are equal. In this note, a general approach is developed which removes the above restriction. Considering a time scale larger than the homogenization time of the ocean (>103 yr), the method allows evaluation of residence time distribution functions and of the corresponding moments.  相似文献

The mechanism of earthquakes is presented by use of the elastic dislocation theory. With consideration of the continuous dislocation field, the general problem of medium deformation requires analysis based on non-Riemannian geometry with the concept of the continuum with a discontinuity (no-more continuum). Here we derive the equilibrium equation (Navier equation) for the continuous dislocation field by introducing the relation between the concepts of the continuous dislocation theory and non-Riemannian geometry. This equation is a generalization of the Laplace equation, which can describe fractal processes like diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) and dielectric breakdown (1313). Moreover, the kinematic compatibility equations derived from Navier equation are the Laplace equations and the solution of Navier equation can be put in terms of functions which satisfy the biharmonic equation, suggesting a close formal connection with fractal processes. Therefore, the relationship between the non-Riemannian geometry and the fractal geometry of fracturing (damage) in geomaterials as earthquakes can be understood by using the Navier equation. Moreover, the continuous dislocation theory can be applied to the problem of the earthquake formation with active folding related with faulting (active flexural-slip folding related to the continuous dislocation field).  相似文献

Geochemical surfaces are reconstructed by interpolating geochemical measurements obtained from stream-water and stream-sediment samples. The geographical region that influences (and therefore is represented by) the value of a geochemial sample is its topographic catchment area. However, standard convention is to treat and to record the stream sample in the database as a point location, and to reconstruct geochemical surfaces utilizing conventional point interpolation procedures. These interpolation procedures assume, generally, that a data point exerts geographical influence away from itself in all directions, and that influence declines with distance away from that data point. Conventional interpolation procedures are poorly suited for reconstructing geochemical surfaces from stream samples; they do not take into account the true geographic area that geochemical sample points represent (topographic catchments). In this paper we propose a method of interpolation which assumes that data points are representative of their topographic catchment areas. Experimental data indicates that a surface reconstruction procedure which preserves the areal character of geochemical samples provides results more meaningful than surfaces reconstructed using more conventional interpolation techniques.  相似文献

A spatially abrupt geochemical boundary is preserved within four plutonic complexes along the western margin of the Cretaceous Idaho Batholith near McCall, Idaho. These intrusives ranging in composition from tonalite to granite were emplaced across a regional boundary between accreted oceanic-arc terranes and the continental margin, and their isotopic, major-element, and trace-element geochemistry provide detailed information about this change in crustal characteristics at depth, indicating that the boundary is nearly vertical and extends deep into the lithosphere. The Hazard Creek complex, emplaced west of the transition in wall-rock lithology, has initial 87Sr/86Sr (Ri) less than 0.7045 and 18O greater than 7.5, indicating little or no continental crust in its source region; however, elevated 18O requires some incorporation of rocks formed or altered at the earth's surface. A large shift in Ri and 18O is observed across the 5–8 km wide Little Goose Creek complex, which was emplaced across the wall-rock boundary. This is interpreted as mixing between: (1) a basaltic or andesitic magma with low K2O and high Na2O, Al2O3, and Sr, similar to that forming the Hazard Creek complex; and (2) materials similar to Precambrian sedimentary sedimentary rocks with low Sr, high 18O (+15) and high Ri (0.83 at 100 Ma). The Payette River complex, emplaced east of the wall-rock boundary, exhibits at least one additional component with low 18O (+6), moderate Ri (0.708) and mafic composition. This component is inferred to be old basaltic material in the lower crust or upper mantle similar to that inferred to be a minor part of the Peninsular Ranges Batholith in SE California (Silver et al. 1979; Hill et al. 1986). The easternmost complex in the Idaho transect is made up of granites that may contain a component of granitic cratonal basement. The entire west-to-east geochemical transition from oceanic-arc magmas to cratonal magmas takes place over a lateral distance of less than 20 km. Although the zone of transitional protolith dominated by metasedimentary rocks is unusually narrow and may have been in part tectonically removed, the striking geochemical similarities between this traverse and several other transects across much broader areas of Nevada and California suggest that the craton itself was not rifted apart, but that juxtaposition of the accreted oceanic-arc terranes occurred along the preexisting craton margin. The data confirm that the isotopic geochemistry of granitoid plutons can be used as a probe of deep lithospheric character, and that major lateral variations in the lithosphere on the order of one to two kilometers in width can be recognized in favorable circumstances.  相似文献

The dolomite problem has a long history and remains one of the most intensely studied and debated topics in geology. Major amounts of dolomite are not directly forming today from seawater. This observation has led many investigators to develop geochemical/hydrologic models for dolomite formation in diagenetic environments. A fundamental limitation of the current models for the growth of sedimentary dolomite is the dearth of kinetic information for this phase, in contrast to that available for calcite and aragonite.We present a simple kinetic model describing dolomite growth as a function of supersaturation using data from published high temperature synthesis experiments and our own experimental results. This model is similar in form to empirical models used to describe precipitation and dissolution rates of other carbonate minerals. Despite the considerable uncertainties and assumptions implicit in this approach, the model satisfies a basic expectation of classical precipitation theory, i.e., that the distance from equilibrium is a basic driving force for reaction rate. The calculated reaction order is high (~ 3), and the combined effect of high order and large activation energy produces a very strong dependence of the rate on temperature and the degree of supersaturation of aqueous solutions with respect to this phase.Using the calculated parameters, we applied the model to well-documented case studies of sabkha dolomite at Abu Dhabi (Persian Gulf), and organogenic dolomite from the Gulf of California. Growth rates calculated from the model agree with independent estimates of the age of these dolomites to well within an order of magnitude. A comparison of precipitation rates in seawater also shows the rate of dolomite precipitation to converge strongly with that of calcite with increasing temperature. If correct, this result implies that dolomite may respond to relatively modest warming of surface environments by substantial increases in accumulation rate, and suggests that the distribution of sedimentary dolomite in the rock record may be to some extent a temperature signal.  相似文献

The Wild Bight Group (WBG) is a sequence of early and middle Ordovician volcanic, subvolcanic and epiclastic rocks, part of the Dunnage Tectonostratigraphic Zone of the Newfoundland Appalachians. A detailed geochemical and Nd-isotopic study of the volcanic and subvolcanic rocks has been carried out to determine the geochemical characteristics of the rocks, interpret their palcotectonic environments and constrain their petrogenetic history. The lower and central stratigraphic levels of the WBG contain mafic volcanic rocks with island-arc geochemical signatures, including LREE-enriched are tholeiites with Nd(t) =-0.1 to +2.2 (type A-I), LREE-depleted arc tholeiites with Nd(t) =+5.6 to +7.1 (type A-II) and an unusual suite of strongly incompatible-element depleted tholeiites in which Nd(t) ranges from-0.9 to +4.6 and is negatively correlated with147Sm/144Nd (type A-III). High-silica, low-K rhyolites occur locally in the central part of the stratigraphy, associated with mafic rocks of arc affinity, and have Nd(t) =+4.7 to +5.4. The upper stratigraphic levels of the WBG dominantly contain rocks with non-arc geochemical signatures, including alkalic basalts with Nd(t) =+4.6 to +5.5 (type N-I), strongly LREE- and incompatible element-enriched tholeiites that are transitional between alkalic and non-alkalic rocks with Nd(t) =+4.4 to +7.0 (type N-II) and rocks with flat to slightly LREE-enriched patterns and Nd(t) =+5.1 to +7.4 (type N-III). Rocks with non-arc and arc signatures are locally interbedded near the stratigraphic type of the WBG. Nd-isotopic data in the type A-I and A-II rocks are generally compatible with mixing/partial melting models involving depleted mantle, variably contaminated by a subducted crustally-derived sediment. The petrogenesis of type A-III rocks must involve source mixing and multi-stage partial melting, but the details are not clear. The geochemistry and Nd isotope data for types N-I, N-II and N-III rocks are compatible with petrogenetic models involving variable partial melting of a source similar to that postulated for modern oceanic island basalts. Comparison of the WBG with modern analogues suggests a 3-stage developmental model: stage 1) island-arc volcanism (eruption of type mafic volcancs); stage 2) arc-rifting (continued eruption of type A-I, A-I, eruption of types A-II and A-III mafic volcanics and high-silica, low-K rhyolites); and stage 3) back-arc basin volcanism (continued minor eruption of type A-I basalts, eruption of types N-I, N-II, N-III basalts). Stages 1 and 2 volcanism involved partial melting of subduction contaminated mantle, while stage 3 volcanism utilized depleted-mantle sources not affected by the subducting slab. This model provides a basis for interpreting coeval sequences in central Newfoundland and a comparative framework for some early Paleozoic oceanic volcanic sequences elsewhere in the Appalachian orogen.  相似文献

Ridge segments and fracture zones from the American-Antarctic Ridge have been systematically dredge sampled from 4° W to 18° W. Petrographic studies of the dredged basalts show that the dominant basalt variety is olivine-plagioclase basalt, although olivine-plagioclase-clinopyroxene basalt is relatively common at some localities. Selected samples have been analysed for major and trace elements, rare earth elements and Sr and Nd isotopes. These data show that the majority of samples are slightly evolved (Mg#=69-35) N-type MORB, although a small group of samples from a number of localities have enriched geochemical characteristics (T- and P-type MORB).These different types of MORB are readily distinguished in terms of their incompatible trace element and isotopic characteristics: N-type MORB have high Zr/Nb (17–78), Y/Nb (4.6–23) and 143Nd/144Nd (0.51303–0.51308) ratios, low Zr/Y (2.2–4.2) and 87Sr/86Sr (0.70263–0.70295) ratios and have (La/Sm)N<1.0; T-type MORB have lower than chondritic Zr/Nb ratios (8.8–15.5), relatively low Y/Nb (1.9–4.3) and 143Nd/144Nd (0.51296–0.51288) ratios and relatively high Zr/Y (3.1–4.7), 87Sr/86Sr (0.70307–0.70334) and (La/Sm)N (1.1–1.5) ratios; the single sample of P-type MORB has low Zr/Nb (6.3), Y/Nb (0.9) and 143Nd/144Nd (0.51287) ratios and high Zr/Y (7.1), 87Sr/86Sr (0.70351) and (La/Sm)N (2.4) ratios. The geochemical characteristics of this sample are essentially identical to those of the Bouvet Island lavas.Geochemically enriched MORB are less abundant on the American-Antarctic Ridge than on the Southwest Indian Ridge but their geochemical characteristics are identical. The compositions of T- and P-type MORB are consistent with a regional mixing model involving normal depleted mantle and Bouvet plume type magma. On a local scale the composition of T-type MORB is consistent with derivation from depleted mantle which contains 4% veins of P-type melt.We propose a model for the evolution of the American-Antarctic Ridge lavas in which N-type MORB is derived from mantle with negligible to low vein/mantle ratios, T-type MORB is derived from domains with moderate and variable vein/mantle ratios and P-type MORB from regions with very high vein/mantle ratios where vein material comprises the major portion of the melt. The sparse occurrence of enriched lavas and by implication enriched mantle beneath the American-Antarctic Ridge, some distance (500–1,200 km) from the Bouvet plume location, is interpreted to be the result of lateral dispersion of enriched mantle domains by asthenospheric flow away from the Bouvet mantle plume towards the American-Antarctic Ridge.  相似文献

Numerical data summaries in many geochemical papers rely on arithmetic means, with or without standard deviations. Yet the mean is the worst average (estimate of location) for those extremely common geochemical data sets which are non-normally distributed or include outliers. The widely used geometric mean, although allowing for skewed distributions, is equally susceptible to outliers. The superior performance of 19 robust estimates of location (simple median, plus various combined, adaptive, trimmed, and skipped,L, M, andW estimates) is illustrated using real geochemical data sets varying in sources of error (pure analytical error to multicomponent geological variability), modality (unimodal to polymodal), size (20 to >2000 data values), and continuity (continuous to truncated in either or both tails). The arithmetic mean tends to overestimate location of many geochemical data sets because of positive skew and large outliers; robust estimates yield consistent smaller averages, although some (e.g., Hampel's and Andrew's) do perform better than others (e.g., Shorth mean, dominant cluster mode). Recommended values for international standard rocks, and for such important geochemical concepts as average chondrite, can be reproduced far more simply via robust estimation on complete interlaboratory data sets than via the rather complicated and subjective methods (e.g., laboratory ratings) so far used in the literature. Robust estimates also seem generally less affected by truncation than the mean; for example, if values below machine detection limits are alternatively treated as missing values or as real values of zero, similar averages are obtained. The standard (and mean) deviations yield consistently larger values of scale for many geochemical data sets than the hinge width (interquartile range) or median absolute deviation from the median. Therefore, summaries of geochemical data should always include at least the simple median and hinge width, to complement the often misleading mean and standard deviation.  相似文献
