Unsteady flows of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid filling the semi-infinite space in contact with an infinite conducting plate in a rotating medium in the presence of a transverse induced magnetic field are investigated under an arbitrary time-dependent forcing effect on the motion of the plate where the plate and the fluid rotate uniformly as a rigid body. By using the Laplace transform technique, the Greens function of the problem is determined and certain asymptotic expansions of the exact solutions are analyzed. the steady-state oscillatory flow problem is solved, and structure of waves and displacement thickness of the boundary layers are discussed for different cases of some natural parameters in the problem. The results are compared with similar flows in the presence of a constant magnetic field.  相似文献

By using the Laplace transform technique, the Green function of the problem is determined and exact solutions are obtained for special cases of the impulsive and the accelerated heating effect for an arbitrary Prandtl number. An exact solution has been obtained by defining a complex velocity with the help of the Laplace-transform technique, when the plate is moving with a velocity which is an arbitrary function of time. The oscillatory boundary layer past a porous flat plate for a two-component plasma is studied for the case of large suction. Perturbation series expansion solution is developed for the problem and the various approximate solutions are integrated in closed form. It is possible to obtain higher approximate solutions where steady state streaming solutions appear. We consider the buoyancy-induced flow of an electrically-conducting fluid with radiative heat transfer past a vertical flat plate of infinite length. We assume that the density obeys the simple Boussinesq equation of state while the viscosity and thermal conductivity vary with temperature, that is a compressible fluid. If the temperature of the plate is such that a time-dependent component is superimposed on a constant value, the problem is tackled by asymptotic approximation. An analysis of Hall effects on the hydromagnetic free convection resulting from the combined effects of thermal and mass diffusion of an electrically-conducting liquid passed an infinite vertical porous plate in a rotating frame of reference is carried out when a strong magnetic field is imposed in a plane which makes an angle with the normal to the plate. The expressions for the mean velocity, mean temperature in the boundary layer, and the mean skin-friction, the mean rate of heat transfer on the plate are derived. The aim of this paper is to investigate the thermal stability of a fluid layer with permeable boundaries and a variable gravitational field. It is observed that the principle of exchange of stabilities is valid when the layer is heated form below and the complex growth rate of an arbitrary oscillatory mode exists outside of a circle whose radius depends upon the permeability parameter, Prandtl number and wavelength of the mode. In the case of a layer heated from below, gravity increasing upward has a destabilizing effect whereas the permeability parameter has a stabilizing effect.  相似文献

The thermal convection instability of a two component fluid layer subjected to a temperature gradient has been studied in the presence of an applied magnetic field. The associated thermal diffusion separation has a predominant effect even when the separations are small. Solutions for the non-oscillatory marginal states have been obtained. It is shown that the concentration gradient has a stabiliting or destabilizing effect according as T<or>0. Approximate solutions for the oscillatory solutions have been obtained by the method of variational principle and the dispersion relation has been solved numerically.  相似文献

This paper extends previous investigations of non-adiabatic, oscillatory motions in plane-parallel, gravitationally stratified, magnetized atmospheres by replacing the simple polytropic equilibrium atmosphere with the detailed umbral model atmosphere of Thomas and Scheuer (1982). A normal mode analysis is performed on three cavities defined within the vertical extent of the model. For this work, the coefficient of thermal conductivity is taken to be a function of the temperature and the constant magnetic field is aligned with the direction of gravity. This significantly alters the structure of the eigenspectrum from that of the simpler models using a constant coefficient of thermal conductivity. When evaluated with physical parameters relevant to sunspot umbrae, 5-min and several 3-min oscillations are detected in the cavity from the upper photosphere to the temperature minimum whereas only 3-min oscillations are found in the spatially larger cavity from the upper photosphere to the chromosphere/corona transition region.  相似文献

The heat transfer in the boundary layer over a hot porous semi-infinite flat plate for a two-component plasma model is computed using an asymptotic series expansion for large suction. The temperature distribution and the Nusselt number are compared with those of a fully-ionized plasma, with and without thermal radiation. An analytical study of MHD free-convective and mass-transfer flow past a moving infinite vertical plate, in a rotating fluid, is presented, taking into account the thermal diffusion effects. The solution of the problem is obtained with the help of the Laplace transform technique. Analytical expressions are given for the velocity field and for skin-friction for two different cases, e.g., when the plate is impulsively started, moving on its own plane (case I) and when it is uniformly accelerated (case II). The structure of the hot downstream region below a radiative accretion shock, such as that of an accreting compact object, may oscillate because of a global thermal instability. The oscillatory behaviour depends on the functional forms of the cooling processes, the energy exchanges of electrons and ions in the shock-heated matter, and the boundary conditions. We analyse the stability of a shock with unequal electron and ion temperatures, where the cooling consists of thermal bremsstrahlung radiation which promotes instability, plus a competing process which tends to stabilize the shock. The effect of transverse perturbations is considered also. As an illustration, we study the special case in which the stabilizing cooling process is of order 3/20 in density and 5/2 in temperature, which is an approximation for the effects of cyclotron cooling in magnetic cataclysmic variables. We vary the efficiency of the second cooling process, the strength of the electron–ion exchange and the ratio of electron and ion pressures at the shock, to examine particular effects on the stability properties and frequencies of oscillation modes.  相似文献

In this paper, analytical MHD studies are made on the propagation of oscillatory waves in a semi-infinite plasma which is exposed to an applied magnetic field. The oscillatory wave is introduced into the plasma environment by temperature perturbation.The phase speeds of the resultant disturbance are discussed in terms Grashof, Prandtl, and Eckert numbers (free-convection parameters), Hall parameter, Alfvén parameter, and frequences. Expansion about small Eckert number is made to solve the very nonlinear coupled partial differential equations for the field variables. The appearance of steady streaming at all times in the first order expansion is mentioned.  相似文献

A two-component differentially rotating disk of self-gravitating particles is considered in the hydrodynamical framework. This system is shown to sustain two pairs of density waves, corresponding to the familiar Jeans modes and an acoustic type of modes (similar to ion-acoustic modes in plasmas). As a result of mass and momentum transfer from the gaseous to the stellar component (an accretion process), the acoustic modes suffer a strong damping, whereas the Jeans modes which were oscillatory, now become overstable provided the thermal velocity of stars is larger than that of gaseous component. The waves with frequencies near the corotation have a rather large growth rate. This amplification can explain the maintenance of spiral structure and a selective amplification could even determine the wave-frequency (or pattern velocity).  相似文献
