In current Naval Architecture practice, employing static considerations is an important and necessary step in assessing ship stability and seakeeping properties (e.g. inclining experiments, load line regulations, range of stability calculations). However, damaged vessels and vessels operating in heavy weather or in conditions where topside icing is a concern may require an additional assessment of stability that considers dynamic effects. Within such contexts, the actual (i.e. current) second moment properties of the vessel mass become very important in the associated equations of motion for a given ship. One such critical second mass moment property is the roll gyradius, as it is closely related to the occurrence of capsizing. The present paper furnishes a means for reckoning the actual roll gyradius of a given ship operating within a seaway. The approach hinges on the formulation and solution of a stochastic inverse problem that leverages existing seakeeping software against the shipboard inertial measurement unit (IMU) telemetry. The method is demonstrated at full-scale and validated at model scale.  相似文献

This work presents an application of stochastic inverse method for the determination of nonlinear roll damping moment of a ship at zero forward speed. Nonlinear roll damping moment was estimated from the measured dynamic responses through stochastic inverse model. It is shown that this method enables nonlinear characteristic of the roll damping to be estimated without any assumption on its form of nonlinearity, including its confidence intervals given noisy data. The accuracy and practicability were assessed with laboratory tests related to both free-decay and forced rolling motions. The estimation results of the nonlinear damping moment show good agreement in all cases.  相似文献

When a fast container ship or a naval vessel turns, accompanying roll motions occur. This roll effect must be considered in the horizontal equations of the motion of the ship to predict the maneuverability of the ship properly. In this paper, a new method for determining a model structure of the hydrodynamic roll moment acting on a ship and for estimating the hydrodynamic coefficients is proposed. The method utilizes a system identification technique with the data from sea trial tests or from free running model (FRM) tests. To obtain motion data that is applied to the proposed algorithm, an FRM of a large container ship was developed. Using this model ship, standard maneuvering tests were carried out on a small body of water out of doors. A hydrodynamic roll moment model was constructed utilizing the data from turning circle tests and a 20-20 zig-zag test. This was then confirmed through a 10-10 zig-zag test. It was concluded that a model structure of the hydrodynamic roll moment model could be established without difficulty through a system identification method and FRM tests.  相似文献

The maximum extent of ship spraying for a medium-sized fishing trawler (MFV) of Soviet type has been considered. A simple geometrical model for generating the spray due to ship-wave collisions has been applied to determine the maximum height of the spray source above the ship deck. The maximum height of the spray source has been assumed to depend on the ship speed relative to the moving waves and an empirical constant specific to a given type of ship. A unique field data set (Kuzniecov et al., 1971) of the height of the upper limit of ice accretion on the foremast of an MFV has been used to determine the value of the empirical constant for this vessel. For documented air-sea and ship motion parameters, the trajectories of droplets hitting the upper parts of the accretion on the foremast have been calculated using the equation of droplet motion for each reported icing event. The heights of the spray source computed by the trajectory method for each case of icing were compared with the heights of the spray source determined by a correlation involving the ship speed relative to the waves and the vertical extent of spray. The best fit was obtained for an empirical constant value of 0.535.The model performance was tested using an independent data set (Sharapov, 1971) on the spraying zone of an MFV. The tests showed that this model predicts the extent of the spraying zone over the ship with satisfactory accuracy and suggest that it should be incorporated into an integrated ship icing model. Finally, the model was run for several ship speeds, headings and wind speeds to examine the effect of these parameters on the maximum height of the spray hitting the ship's foremast. It was found that this height increases with wind speed and ship speed and is maximum for ship headings of 120–130°.  相似文献

The paper studies the parametric stochastic roll motion in the random waves. The differential equation of the ship parametric roll under random wave is established with considering the nonlinear damping and ship speed. Random sea surface is treated as a narrow-band stochastic process, and the stochastic parametric excitation is studied based on the effective wave theory. The nonlinear restored arm function obtained from the numerical simulation is expressed as the approximate analytic function. By using the stochastic averaging method, the differential equation of motion is transformed into Ito's stochastic differential equation. The steady-state probability density function of roll motion is obtained, and the results are validated with the numerical simulation and model test.  相似文献

Parametric roll of a containership in head sea condition has been studied in the paper. A time domain routine for GZ righting arm calculation based on exact underwater hull geometry has been implemented into a two-degree-of-freedom procedure for roll response calculation. The speed variation due to e.g. added resistance has been accounted for in the model by the surge velocity. The ship roll motion due to a regular wave critical for parametric roll occurrence has been simulated, as well as the ship roll response in a severe stochastic sea. The present method has been compared with other existing methods for parametric roll prediction.  相似文献

Traditionally, when using Melnikov's method to analyze ship motions, the damping terms are treated as small. This is typically true for roll motion but not always true for other and/or multiple degrees of freedom. In order to apply Melnikov's method to other and/or multiple-degree-of-freedom motions, the small damping assumption must be addressed. In this paper, the extended Melnikov method is used to analyze ship motion without the constraint of small linear damping. Two roll motion models are analyzed here. One is a simple roll model with nonlinear damping and cubic restoring moment. The other is the model with biased restoring moment. Numerical simulations are investigated for both models. The effectiveness and accuracy of this method is demonstrated.  相似文献

This study proposes a ship weather-routing algorithm based on the composite influence of multi-dynamic elements for determining the optimized ship routes. The three-dimensional modified isochrone (3DMI) method utilizing the recursive forward technique and floating grid system for the ship tracks is adopted. The great circle sailing (GCR) is considered as the reference route in the earth coordinate system. Illustrative optimized ship routes on the North Pacific Ocean have been determined and presented based on the realistic constraints, such as the presence of land boundaries, non-navigable sea, seaway influences, roll response as well as ship speed loss. The proposed calculation method is effective for optimizing results by adjusting the weighting factors in the objective functions. The merits of the proposed method can be summarized as: (1) the navigability of the route can be analyzed dynamically to acquire the optimal route; (2) adopting multi-dynamic elements as weighting factors has the benefits in energy efficiency, time-saving and minimum voyage distance; and (3) an ability to enhance speed performance and to incorporate safety concern in a dynamic environment.  相似文献

Abstract

We introduce an iterative inversion method to address the problems in high-order seafloor topography inversion using gravity data (gravity anomaly and vertical gravity gradient anomaly), such as the difficulty in computing the equation and the uniqueness of the calculation results. A part of the South China Sea is selected as the experimental area. Considering the coherence and admittance function of gravity topography and vertical gravity gradient topography, the inversion band of the gravity anomaly and vertical gravity gradient anomaly in the study area is 30?km–120?km. Seafloor topography models of different orders are constructed using an iterative method, and the performance of each seafloor topography model is analyzed against ETOPO1 and other seafloor topography models. The experimental results show that as the inversion order increases, the clarity and richness of seafloor topographic expression continuously improve. However, the accuracy of seafloor topography inversion does not improve significantly when the inversion order exceeds a certain value, which is related to the contribution of high-order seafloor topography to gravity information. The results show that the accuracy of BGT4 (inversion model constructed by the gravity anomaly) is slightly poorer than that of BVGGT4 (inversion model constructed by the vertical gravity gradient anomaly) in areas with complex topography, such as multi-seamounts and trenches, and the results are generally better in areas with flat seafloor topography.  相似文献

This study introduces a method of calculating a capsizing rate of a ship. The phenomenon ‘capsizing’ is described as a jump of local equilibrium point from that near the upright position of a ship to what describes the upside-down attitude of the capsized ship; the rate of occurrence of such jumps was calculated. The potential function corresponding to the roll restoring moment have two potential wells located at the roll displacement angle 0 and 180°, respectively. A nonlinear Fokker–Planck equation for the joint probability density function of roll angle and velocity was solved. The excitation to the ship was assumed to be a combination of a regular harmonic wave and a white noise process.  相似文献

Current paper presents a mathematical model based on 2D-asymmetric wedge water entry to model heave and pitch motions of planing hulls at non-zero heel angles. Vertical and horizontal forces as well as heeling moment due to asymmetric water entry are computed using momentum theory in conjunction with added mass of impact velocity in vertical and horizontal directions. The proposed model is able to compute sway and yaw forces, roll moment, as well as heave and pitch motions in calm water and regular waves. Validity of the proposed model is verified by comparing the results against existing experimental data in both symmetric and asymmetric conditions. Ultimately, different parametric studies are conducted to examine the effects of non-zero heel angle on dynamic vertical motions. The resulting sway and yaw forces due to asymmetric motion are also derived and effects of heel angle on these side forces are investigated.  相似文献

Ice loads on a ship hull affect the safety of the hull structure and the ship maneuvering performance in ice-covered regions. A discrete element method (DEM) is used to simulate the interaction between drifting ice floes and a moving ship. The pancake ice floes are modelled with three-dimensional (3-D) dilated disk elements considering the buoyancy, drag force and additional mass induced by the current. The ship hull is modelled with 3D disks with overlaps. Ice loads on the ship hull are determined through the contact detection between ice floe element and ship hull element and the contact force calculation. The influences of different ice conditions (current velocities and directions, ice thicknesses, concentrations and ice floe sizes) and ship speeds are also examined on the dynamic ice force. The simulated results are compared qualitatively well with the existing field data and other numerical results. This work can be helpful in the shil3 structure design and the navigation securitv in ice-covered fields.  相似文献

Offshore wind energy resources are operational in cold regions, while offshore wind turbines will face the threat of icing. Therefore, it is necessary to study icing of offshore wind turbines under different icing conditions. In this study, icing sensitivity of offshore wind turbine blades are performed using a combination of FLUENT and FENSAP-ICE software, and the effects of liquid water content (LWC), medium volume diameter (MVD), wind speed and air temperature on blade icing shape are analyzed by two types of ice, namely rime ice and glaze ice. The results show that the increase of LWC and MVD will increase the amount of ice that forms on the blade surface for either glaze ice or rime ice, and an increase of MVD will expand the adhesion surface between ice and blade. Before reaching the rated wind speed of 11.4 m/s, it does not directly affect the icing shape. However, after reaching the rated wind speed, the attack angle of the incoming flow decreases obviously, and the amount of ice increases markedly. When the ambient air temperature meets the icing conditions of glaze ice (i.e., −5°C to 0°C), the lower the temperature, the more glaze ice freezes, whereas air temperature has no impact on the icing of rime ice. Compared with onshore wind turbines, offshore wind turbines might face extreme meteorological conditions, and the wind speed has no impact on the amount of ice that forms on the blade surface for most wind speeds

The ability of a sailing yacht to re-right due to the effect of a breaking wave is investigated experimentally. Free and constrained physical models with varying mast height and centre of gravity were tested. To investigate the influence of retained mast height on sway force and roll moment, models were constrained by attachment to a force balance for sway motion tests in calm water and stationary tests in regular and breaking waves. Free model testing, with varying mast height and centre of gravity position, were carried out in breaking waves. For these tests, model motions in six degrees of freedom were measured using photogrammetry. The constrained tests showed that while the mast height had little effect on forces when stationary in waves it had a large effect when in sway motion. As models experience large sway motions when subject to a breaking wave the mast remnant plays a critical role in re-righting dynamics. This work demonstrates that re-righting probability is more dependent on mast height retention and wave characteristics than vertical centre of gravity. This conclusion has direct implications on re-righting safety assessment as the dominant design feature in most safety standards is the vertical centre of gravity.  相似文献

The large roll motion of ships sailing in the seaway is undesirable because it may lead to the seasickness of crew and unsafety of vessels and cargoes, thus it needs to be reduced. The aim of this study is to design a rudder roll stabilization system based on Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) control algorithm for ship advancing in the seaway only through rudder actions. In the proposed stabilization system, the course keeping controller and the roll damping controller were accomplished by utilizing modified Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) training algorithm, and implemented in parallel to maintain the orientation and reduce roll motion simultaneously. The nonlinear mathematical model, which includes manoeuvring characteristics and wave disturbances, was adopted to analyse ship’s responses. Various sailing states and the external wave disturbances were considered to validate the performance and robustness of the proposed roll stabilizer. The results indicate that the designed control system performs better than the Back Propagation (BP) neural networks based control system and conventional Proportional-Derivative (PD) based control system in terms of reducing roll motion for ship in waves.  相似文献

We numerically studied the full (six degrees of freedom) motion of a cargo ship without roll stabilizers in rough (sea state 5) conditions for multiple heading angles ranging from 0° (follower seas) to 180° (head seas). We found that the ship exhibits excessive roll motion in quartering (45° off the stern), beam, and head seas. Therefore, roll damping is critical in these conditions. We then investigated the performance of passive and active anti-roll tank (ART) systems and compared their performance in each of the three sea conditions. Each ART consists of three identical tanks, distributed along the centerline of the ship, each of which consists of two vertical ducts connected at the bottom with a horizontal duct. A pump is located at the middle of the horizontal duct of each tank. The pumps are switched on for active ARTs but switched off for passive ones. The loads (forces and moments) exerted on the ship by the ARTs are added to the hydrodynamic loads (e.g., due to pressure and viscous effects) and the thrust in the governing equations of motion of the ship. Whereas both passive and active ARTs are able to reduce the excessive roll motion, active ARTs outperform the passive ones from three perspectives. First, they are more effective in reducing the roll motion. Second, they require much less working liquid. Third, their performance is insensitive to their natural frequencies and, hence, to their geometric design. In addition, we found that head seas are most responsive to ARTs, which suggests that they are effective in mitigating parametric roll.  相似文献

The importance of hydroelastic analysis of large and flexible container ships of today is pointed out. A methodology for investigation of this challenging phenomenon is drawn up and a mathematical model is worked out. It includes definition of ship geometry, mass distribution, structure stiffness, and combines ship hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, wave load, ship motion and vibrations. Based on the presented theory, a computer program is developed and applied for hydroelastic analysis of a flexible segmented barge for which model test results of motion and distortion in waves have been available. A correlation analysis of numerical simulation and measured response shows quite good agreement of the transfer functions for heave, pitch, roll, vertical and horizontal bending and torsion. The tool checked in such a way can be further used for reliable hydroelastic analysis of ship-like structures.  相似文献

The application of an inversion methodology produces the first demonstration of a simultaneous solution for geoacoustic and source track parameters from acoustic data collected in a shallow-water, sandy sediment environment. Inversion solutions from data collected in the 2006 Shallow Water Experiment (SW06) are extracted from noise measurements of a surface ship source on an L-array. The methodology includes a screening algorithm to determine a set of frequencies for the inversion data. In addition, the methodology assesses the accuracy of the inversion solution and incorporates an estimation of parameter value uncertainties. The solution from the inversion of the horizontal component of the L-array data from the surface ship source before its closest point of approach (CPA) is used to construct modeled propagation loss for comparison with observed received level (RL) structure as the source departs from CPA. Inversion of the data from a single element in the vertical component of the L-array produces a solution that agrees with the solution obtained from the inversion of horizontal subaperture data. Also, modeled transmission loss (TL) structure obtained from the single-element inversion solution reproduces the depth dependence of the RL structure observed at other elements of the vertical component of the L-array.   相似文献
