The possibility of obtaining information about oscillation processes in magnetic flux tubes on the Sun by analyzing the undulating frequency drift of the zebra pattern in the dynamic spectrum of solar radio emission is discussed. It is shown that the oscillatory variation in the frequency of zebra stripes can be associated with fast magnetoacoustic (FMA) oscillations in a flux tube, which lead to oscillations in the magnetic field strength and electron number density. The October 25, 1994 event recorded by the radio spectrograph of the Astrophysical Institute Potsdam is used as an example to demonstrate the possibility of determining the parameters of FMA oscillations and the physical conditions in coronal magnetic loops from the observed zebra-pattern characteristics.  相似文献

Stochastic fluctuations of the magnetospheric plasma and background magnetic field, especially intense during geomagnetically active periods, can provide an additional mechanism of damping of Alfvén field line oscillations. To quantify this hypothesis, we consider a driven Alfvén field line resonator with stochastic fluctuations of the Alfvén resonant frequency. This problem is first considered analytically for a low level of fluctuations, then a more general numerical approach is introduced. The results of analytical calculations and numerical modeling both indicate the deterioration of resonant properties of the resonator owing to stochastic background fluctuations.  相似文献

A technique for analyzing periodic processes based on the introduction of an analytical signal is described. This technique allows the instantaneous frequency, amplitude, and phase of oscillations to be obtained. The data on solar brightness fluctuations collected with the DIFOS multichannel photometer onboard the CORONAS-F satellite are processed. The p-mode spectral lines are broadened mainly by amplitude fluctuations, while the frequency stability appears to be high (~10?4). A method for separating signals with close frequencies is developed. The p-mode with l = 0 and n = 21 is used as an example to show that the separation of signals with close frequencies is possible when the conventional spectral methods are inefficient. Analysis of the phase shifts between the oscillations observed in various optical channels of the DIFOS photometer has revealed that the five-minute oscillations travel from the upper and deep photospheric layers toward the middle photospheric layers. This effect directly proves that the evanescent p-modes in the photosphere are nonadiabatic.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is a detailed statistical analysis of the low-frequency Ca II line intensity oscillations containing information about the dynamics of the lower and middle chromosphere. A pixel-by-pixel analysis of the observed parameters has been performed. The following results have been obtained. (1) The low-frequency chromospheric oscillations (periods >400 s) are seen much more frequently in networks than in chromospheric network cells. (2) The relative fraction of the low-frequency chromospheric intensity oscillations increases with height. (3) The occurrence distribution of intensity oscillations as a function of the frequency is subdivided at least into two types. (4) In contrast to the low-frequency photospheric oscillations, the phase differences between the Ca II K and 849.8 nm line intensity oscillations do not give grounds to identify the low-frequency chromospheric oscillations with internal gravity waves. (5) The spectral composition of the oscillations in the network chromosphere resembles that expected in magnetic flux tubes in the nonlinear regime of conversion of transverse MHD waves at lower levels of the atmosphere into longitudinal MHD waves in its upper layer.  相似文献

P-mode oscillations in the Sun and stars are excited stochastically by Reynolds stress and entropy fluctuations produced by convection in their outer envelopes. The excitation rate of radial oscillations of stars near the main sequence from K to F and a subgiant K IV star have been calculated from numerical simulations of their surface convection zones. P-mode excitation increases with increasing effective temperature (until envelope convection ceases in the F stars) and also increases with decreasing gravity. The frequency of the maximum excitation decreases with decreasing surface gravity.  相似文献

Several Nike-Apache rockets with Lang muir probe payloads were launched from Thumba (India) to study the disturbances produced by a moving rocket. The rockets were launched during different times of the day and night. It was found that low frequency ion plasma oscillations of the order of 1 KHz frequency were observed in the altitude region 145 to 200 km. This altitude region corresponds to the rocket apogee region where the rocket velocity is subsonic. The amplitude of the fluctuations was about 1 to 2% and was found to be dependant on rocket velocity electron density in the ambient medium, rocket spin and probe voltage. It was noticed that in the case of Centaure and Petrel rockets such types of oscillations were not observed. The Nike-Apache rockets are made of aluminium while Centaure and Petrel rockets are made of stainless steel.  相似文献

We examine the excitation of oscillations in the magnetic network of the Sun through the footpoint motion of photospheric magnetic flux tubes located in intergranular lanes. The motion is derived from a time series of high-resolution G-band and continuum filtergrams using an object-tracking technique. We model the response of the flux tube to the footpoint motion in terms of the Klein-Gordon equation, which is solved analytically as an initial value problem for transverse (kink) waves. We compute the wave energy flux in upward-propagating transverse waves. In general we find that the injection of energy into the chromosphere occurs in short-duration pulses, which would lead to a time variability in chromospheric emission that is incompatible with observations. Therefore, we consider the effects of turbulent convective flows on flux tubes in intergranular lanes. The turbulent flows are simulated by adding high-frequency motions (periods 5-50 s) with an amplitude of 1 km s(-1). The latter are simulated by adding random velocity fluctuations to the observationally determined velocities. In this case, we find that the energy flux is much less intermittent and can in principle carry adequate energy for chromospheric heating.  相似文献

It is shown that the viscous attenuation of Alfvenic fluctuations is anisotropic and is proportional to the fluctuation component parallel to the mean magnetic field. If the ratio between the parallel and perpendicular components is a constant, then the viscous attenuation experienced by waves with wavelengths larger than the collisional free-path will be concentrated within 20 R?. Between 0.3 AU and l AU, no Alfvenic fluctuations of any frequency is appreciably damped by viscosity determined by Coulomb collision. The mechanism of viscous attenuation caonot explain the observed radial development of the spectrum. If, near the Sun, the Alfvenic fluctuations do have a parallel component, then the viscous damping will have an important accelerating effect on the solar wind in fast diverging stream tubes. If the parallel component is negligible, then the Alfvenic fluctuation will not be attenuated by any classical viscosity.  相似文献

The sunspot-associated sources at the frequency of 17 GHz give information on plasma parameters in the regions of magnetic field about B=2000 G at the level of the chromosphere-corona transition region. The observations of short period (from one to ten minutes) oscillations in sunspots reflect propagation of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves in the magnetic flux tubes of the sunspots. We investigate the oscillation parameters in active regions in connection with their flare activity. We confirm the existence of a link between the oscillation spectrum and flare activity. We find differences in the oscillations between pre-flare and post-flare phases. In particular, we demonstrate a case of powerful three-minute oscillations that start just before the burst. This event is similar to the cases of the precursors investigated by Sych et al. (Astron. Astrophys. 505, 791, 2009). We also found well-defined eight-minute oscillations of microwave emission from sunspot. We interpret our observations in terms of a relationship between MHD waves propagating from sunspots and flare processes.  相似文献

The 5-min oscillations in the photospheric velocity fields have been studied in detail from measurements on 14 absorption lines from three time sequences of spectrograms of high quality. The lines cover a range of heights in the solar atmosphere from log = + 0.2 to -1.2. Regions oscillating coherently are seen to have an average dimension of 8000 km and the oscillations in general last for 2 to 3 periods. The power spectrum analysis of high resolution enabled to determine the period of oscillation at each level very precisely. The period decreases with increase in height, being 304 s at the level log = + 0.2 and 295 s at the level log = -1.2. The low level lines possess considerable power in the low frequency range representing the convective overshoot from below. The oscillatory power increases with height, while the low frequency power decreases and the high frequency component remains substantially constant in the heights studied. The intensity fluctuations in the continuum, the line wing and core of Fe i 6358.695 have also been studied. The continuum power spectrum has practically all the power near the zero frequency range, with a very weak oscillatory component. The line wing intensity fluctuations resemble those in the continuum, whereas the line core clearly shows an oscillatory component similar to the velocity oscillations.  相似文献

Using microwave observations made with the Nobeyama radioheliograph (=1.76 cm), we have studied temporal variations of sunspot-associated sources in the circularly polarized component. For all three cases of well-developed and rather stable sunspots we found nearly harmonic oscillations with periods in a range of 120–220 s. In one case of an unstable and quickly devolving active region, the fluctuations appear to be irregular with no dominant period. Sunspot-associated solar radio sources are known to be generated by cyclotron radiation of thermal electrons in magnetic tubes of sunspots at the level of the lower solar corona or chromosphere–corona transition region (CCTR). At the wavelength of 1.76 cm, the polarized emission arises in a layer where the magnetic field is B=2000 G (assuming the emission generated at the third harmonic of electron gyrofrequency). We suggest that the observed effect is a manifestation of the well-known 3-min oscillations observed in the chromosphere and photosphere above sunspots. The observed effects are believed to be a result of resonance oscillation of MHD waves inside a magnetic tube. Radio observations of this phenomenon open a new tool for studying regions of reflection of MHD waves near CCTR level. The method is very sensitive both to the height of the CCTR and magnetic fields above sunspots. Thus, detection of oscillations of the height of the transition region even with an amplitude of a few km are possible. The use of a spectrum of one of the observed sources obtained with the radio telescope RATAN-600 allows us to conclude that oscillations in magnetic field strength of about 4 G could be responsible for the effect and are reliably registered. The appearance of the famous 5-min oscillations in the solar atmosphere was also registered in some spectra of radio oscillations.  相似文献

Inclusion of radiative heat transport in the energy equation for a slender flux tube leads to oscillations of the tube. The amplitude of the oscillations depends on the radius of the tube when lateral heat exchange alone is considered. Longitudinal heat transport has a greater influence on the evolution of the instability than lateral heat exchange for the particular value of tube radius considered in the calculation. Heat transport is seen to reduce the efficiency of concentration of magnetic fields by convective collapse in the case of polytropic tubes.  相似文献

A theory for the brightness fluctuations of the Sun as a star under the effect of its global oscillations has been developed. Formulas for the darkening and visibility of p-modes are derived and their calculations are performed in the local approximation for adiabatic oscillations. Observational data from the DIFOS multichannel photometer onboard the CORONAS-F satellite are used to solve the inverse problem of determining the amplitude of the five-minute temperature fluctuations in the solar photosphere as a function of the height. Analysis of the solution and comparison with the results of other authors suggest that the predicted temperature waves resulting from a linear transformation of p-modes in the photosphere exist in the photosphere. The wavelength and phase velocity of the temperature waves are considerably smaller than those of acoustic waves. It turns out that the solar brightness fluctuations should be produced mainly by the temperature waves in the photosphere, not by the p-modes themselves. The darkening function for the brightness fluctuations is oscillatory in behavior, while the visibility function can differ markedly from that for the Doppler shifts of spectral lines produced by p-modes. These properties are important for interpreting the observations of stellar oscillations based on stellar brightness fluctuations.  相似文献

Our theory of a resonator for slow magneto-atmospheric waves in the chromosphere of a sunspot umbra has been used to check different models of the structure of the chromosphere and transition region. Oscillations of velocity and intensity in Civ, Siiv, and Oiv lines observed by Gurman et al. (1982) on the SMM spacecraft have been compared with the calculated oscillations. The observed spectrum of resonant peaks could well be explained by a gradient model of the umbral chromosphere. Different assumptions concerning the structure of the transition region do not influence the calculated resonance periods, but the amplitudes and phases of oscillations are modified. There is strong evidence for a concentration of the observed oscillations in cold fine structure elements of the transition region, even if the filling factor of such elements is very small (some few percent). Isothermal rather than adiabatic oscillations in the cold elements should be assumed in order to explain the observed fluctuations of line intensity; the relative amplitudes of pressure oscillations in the hot main component with a steep gradient of temperature are too small to explain the observed intensity fluctuations.  相似文献

A procedure is outlined for estimating the influence of large-scale convective eddies on the wave patterns of five-minute oscillations of high degree. The method is applied to adiabatic oscillations, with frequency ω and wave number k, of a plane-parallel polytropic layer upon which is imposed a low-amplitude convective flow. The distortion to the k - ω relation has two constituents: one depends on the horizontal component of the convective velocity and has a sign which depends on the sign of ω/k; the other depends on temperature fluctuations and is independent of the sign of ω/k. The magnitude of the distortion is just at the limit of present observational sensitivity. Thus there is reasonable hope that it will be possible to reveal some aspects of the large-scale flow in the solar convection zone.  相似文献

Natural, low-frequency, hydromagnetic oscillations of an isolated, nonrotating neutron star, which are localized in the peripheral crust, the structure of which is determined by the electron-nuclear plasma (the Ae phase), are studied. The plasma medium of the outer crust is treated as a homogeneous, infinitely conducting, incompressible continuum, the motions of which are determined by the equations of magnetohydrodynamics. In the approximation of a constant magnetic field inside the crust (the magnetic field outside the star is assumed to have a dipole structure), the spectrum of normal poloidal and toroidal hydromagnetic oscillations, due to presumed residual fluctuations of flow and their associated fluctuations in magnetic field strength, is calculated. Numerical estimates given for the periods of MHD oscillations fall in the range of periods of radio pulsar emission, indicating a close connection between the residual hydromagnetic oscillations and the electromagnetic activity of neutron stars. The free oscillations of coronal loops with a constant density and a variable magnetic field changing according to parabolic laws are investigated. Using our developed method, we derive the wave equations with constant coefficients that describe the kink oscillations of symmetric and asymmetric magnetic flux tubes. For such models, we obtain analytical expressions for the oscillation spectra and amplitudes as well as the magnitudes and directions of the displacements of the extrema of the fundamental and first modes relative to their values for homogeneous tubes. For the first mode of an asymmetric loop, we have determined the dependence of the coordinate displacement for the internal node on the ratios of the magnetic field strengths in its asymmetric parts and the ratio of the amplitudes at the extremum points.  相似文献

An instrument to observe low-degree solar oscillations   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We have constructed an instrument optimized to observe solar oscillations of low degree. The primary goal of this instrument, which we call LOWL, is to measure the frequency splitting of the low-degree modes in order to determine the rotation rate of the solar core. The LOWL is a Doppler imager based on a magneto-optical filter. It employs a two-beam technique to simultaneously observe solar images in opposite wings of the absorption line of potassium at 769.9 nm. This instrument is very stable against drifts in the wavelength zero-point, is insensitive to noise sources due to intensity fluctuations and image motion, and has a Doppler analyzer with no moving parts. The LOWL has been deployed at HAO's observing station on Mauna Loa, Hawaii and will operate for a period of at least two years. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Periodic Doppler width fluctuations have been observed in Fe xiv spectra above an active region. The oscillations have a period of 6.1 ± 0.6 min and a peak-to-peak amplitude of 0.07 ± 0.006 Å. The amplitude of the oscillation increases with height above the limb, and is enhanced at specific heights where we marginally detect line center intensity oscillations. The intensity fluctuations have a period of 6.1 min, an amplitude of 2.0 ± 1.4%, and are 180 ° out of phase with the width oscillations. A comparison region in the quiet corona showed no evidence of oscillatory phenomena.Visiting Student, Sacramento Peak Observatory.NAS/NRC Resident Research Associate.Operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy Inc., under contract with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献
