The classical method for determining the velocities of microturbulent motions in solar prominences is generalized to account for the possible opacity of the spectral lines. A new characteristic of a line is introduced which, for a given line formation mechanism, can be used to determine the optical thickness of the emitting region. The method is applied to lines in the EUV region observed with the SUMER spectrograph as part of the SOHO space program. Comparison with observational data not only confirms the validity of this mechanism for line formation, but also shows that the optical thickness of the medium is small for these lines. Difficulties involved in determining the kinetic temperature and, therefore, the microturbulent velocities, are discussed. Based on lines of various ions, this velocity is estimated to be on the order of 30–40 km/s.  相似文献

The velocity of microturbulent motions in the solar photosphere at the level of formation of weak Fraunhofer lines (h 150 km) is found to be 0.1 ± 0.2 km s–1. The observations have been performed with the double-pass spectrometer in Kiev. Apart from thermal motions and damping effects we have taken into account convective and wave motions when calculating the broadening of absorption lines.  相似文献

Hot subdwarf stars (hot sds) are blue subluminous objects. Only a few determinations areavailable to date regarding the study of such aspects as rotation,microturbulent velocities or the magnetic nature of these objects. Over26 sdBs are known to date to be multiperiodic rapid oscillators. Thisproject presents preliminary results of new observations and models of asample of pulsating and non-pulsating hot sds, includingconsiderations on mass loss and eventual magnetic properties.  相似文献

The multi-transitional observations of CS molecules towards the NGC 2071 core have been re-analysed by using a tri-dimensional Monte Carlo radiative transfer code. Better agreement with the observations is made by an introduction of clumpiness to this model than by smoothly varying density to the 1D microturbulent one. The best-fitting model shows that, when a unique density is assumed for clumps, the volume filling factor of the clumps varies as r −2 with an average of ∼5 per cent over the entire core, and that the H2 number density and the CS abundance of the clump relative to H2 are ∼ 2 × 106 cm−3 and ∼ 6 × 10−10, respectively. The radial density gradient ∝ r −2 obtained from our clumpy core model is steeper than that (∝ r −1.3) obtained from the microturbulent model. Since all clumps are subject to random bulk motions in this 3D clumpy macroturbulent model, synthesized line profiles do not show self-absorption dips even for opaque transitions and the resulting linewidth is in good accordance with the observations.  相似文献

The iron abundance and microturbulent velocities in Arcturus, Canopus, and α CenA have been determined from Fel and Fell lines relative to the Sun. α CenA is found to have an enhanced iron abundance, while Canopus and Arcturus are found to have a deficiency of iron. The behaviour of the determined microturbulent velocities is discussed.  相似文献

We consider the NLTE formation of the resonance Ba II line λ 455.4 nm in the solar spectrum for three one-dimensional and one three-dimensional hydrodynamic models of the quiet solar atmosphere. The sensitivity of the line to atomic parameters, microturbulent and macroturbulent velocities, as well as to oscillator strength and barium abundance uncertainties was examined. The wings of the barium line are shown to be most sensitive to the van der Waals broadening constant. Another important parameter is the barium abundance. Our NLTE estimate of the solar barium abundance (A Ba = 2.16) derived with allowance made for the nonuniform solar atmosphere structure is in good agreement with earlier results. The influence of granular convective motions on the line profile shape was studied, and the profiles formed in granules and in intergranular lanes are shown to be asymmetric and differently shaped. We demonstrate that the theoretical profiles match well the observed ones when the NLTE effects and the granular structure are taken into account.  相似文献

The formation of Zeeman lines in Gaussian microturbulent magnetic fields is considered assuming LTE. General formulae are derived for the local mean values of the transfer matrix elements. The cases of one-dimensional (longitudinal), isotropic, and two-dimensional (transversal) magnetic microturbulence are studied in some detail. Asymptotic formulae are given for small mean as well as for small microturbulent magnetic fields. Characteristic effects of magnetic microturbulence on the transfer coefficients are: (i) the broadening of the frequency contours, although only for the case of longitudinal Zeeman effect and longitudinal magnetic microturbulence this effect can be described analogous to Doppler broadening, (ii) the appearance of a pseudo-Zeeman structure for nonlongitudinal magnetic microturbulence, (iii) the reduction of maximal values of circular polarization, and (iv) the appearance of characteristic linear polarization effects due to the anisotropy of the magnetic microturbulence.Line contours and polarization of Zeeman triplets are computed for Milne-Edddington atmospheres. It is shown that magnetic intensification due to microturbulent magnetic fields may be much more efficient than that due to regular fields. The gravity center of a Zeeman line observed in circularly polarized light remains a reasonable measure of the line of sight component of the mean magnetic field for a line strength47-1. For saturated lines, the gravity center distance depends significantly on the magnetic microturbulence and its anisotropy. The influence of magnetic microturbulence on the ratio of longitudinal field magnetographic signals shows that unique conclusions about the magnetic microstructure can be drawn from the line ratio measurement only in combination with further spectroscopic data or physical reasoning.  相似文献

The Goldberg-Unno method is analysed. Accounting for the instrumental profile correction reduces the derived microturbulent velocities only slightly. A similar effect may be caused by an unresolved macroturbulence. The method of accounting for the damping effect is considered. The correction for the influence of the damping effect does not change substantially the general trend of the variation of t with 0. The microturbulent velocity t is reduced appreciably.An attempt to analyse the microturbulent velocities by the Goldberg-Unno method under deviation from LTE is made.The main conclusion is that the Goldberg-Unno method, especially in its modified form, is valid and useful.  相似文献

Based on high quality spectral data (spectral resolution R≈60000) within the wavelength range of 3550–5000 Å we determined main parameters (effective temperature, surface gravity, microturbulent velocity, and content of chemical elements including heavy metals from Sr to Dy) for 14 metal-deficient G–K stars with large proper motions. The stars studied have a high range of metallicity: [Fe/H]=?0.3÷?2.9. Abundances of Mg, Al, Sr and Ba were calculated with non-LTE line-formation effects accounted for. The abundance both of radioactive element Th and the r-process element Eu were determined through synthetic spectrum calculations. We selected stars that belong to different galactic populations according to the kinematical criterion and parameters determined by us. We found that the studied stars with large proper motions refer to different components of the Galaxy: thin, thick disks and halo. The chemical composition of the star BD+80°?245 far from the galactic plane agrees with its belonging to the accreted halo. For the giant HD?115444 we obtained [Fe/H]=?2.91, an underabundance of Mn, an overabundance of heavy metals from Ba to Dy, and especially a high excess of the r-process element europium: [Eu/Fe]=+1.26. Contrary to its chemical composition typical for halo stars, HD?115444 belongs to the disc population according to its kinematic parameters.  相似文献

Vertical chromium distributions in the atmospheres of several Ap and Am stars are fitted using detailed modeling of the profiles of CrII lines. The vertical distributions obtained for Ap stars are consistent with Babel's results of an investigation of Cr lines in the spectrum of the Ap star 53 Cam. It is shown that the observational data cannot be interpreted in terms of the hypothesis that microturbulent velocity varies with depth.  相似文献

A new crossing method for the study of turbulent velocities in solar and stellar photospheres is considered. The method does not need knowledge of the abundance and oscillator strengths for determining the microturbulent velocity, if the macroturbulent velocity is adopted; or it allows investigation of the micro- and macro-velocities simultaneously, if the abundance and oscillator strengths are known. Using the crossing method for 200 lines of neutral iron we obtain microturbulent velocities for a large range of depths in the solar photosphere. The distribution of macroturbulent velocities with depth is also investigated. The total velocity field calculated from the obtained micro- and macro-velocities agrees with previous results from independent methods. This demonstrates the reliability of using the crossing method for separate determination of the micro- and macroturbulent velocities in solar and stellar atmospheres.  相似文献

The algorithm of the determination of abundances in atmospheres of stars of spectral classes F, G, and K using fits to the observed spectral lines or selected parts of the blended lines is discussed. The technique allows to determine the parameters of the atmosphere, i.e., gravity, microturbulent velocity, rotational velocity of the star, and abundance of elements, for a given effective temperature of the star. At each stage of the iterative process the model atmosphere is recalculated for a new set of input data. The results of applying the procedure for the analysis of the spectra of the Sun (G2 V) and HD 101348 (G3 V) are discussed.  相似文献

An empirical approach to interpret the time evolution of the high spatial resolution Ca ii K line is presented. We specify the physical parameters, such as electron temperature, hydrogen density, and velocity (microturbulent and systematic) as functions of height. The electron density is obtained from scaled non-LTE solutions for hydrogen ionization. The population indices, and thus the Ca ii source functions, for a 5-level Ca ii atom are computed by using the generalized Newton-Raphson method. K line profiles are then synthesized for different evolutionary stages and are compared with the observed ones. The explanation of the ‘peculiar’ type profile is also attempted.  相似文献

In this paper various models of mass motions in solar prominences and flares, such as expansion, contraction and rotation without or with depth gradients, are considered. The variation of the source function with depth is also taken into account. Under these conditions the profiles of the first Balmer lines are calculated. The various effects of mass motions on spectral lines are studied. We have established four methods for the derivation of the velocities of motions as well as their gradients from the corresponding spectral features. These methods have been preliminarily applied to observational data, mainly those of the spectra-spectroheliograph (SSHG) of the Yunnan Observatory.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper will be to investigate the effects, on the observed radial velocities of the components of close binary systems, of atmospheric motions caused by mutual irradiation of the two stars. Such motions can (and, in general, will) produce systematic differences between the observed radial velocity and that of the centre of mass of the respective star — differences varying with with the phase and thus giving rise to spurious deformations of the star's radial-velocity curves due to orbital motion. A failure to separate the two could (and in general, will) vitiate the physical elements deduced from these curves —such as the masses or absolute dimensions of the components and of the shape of their orbit; but in order to do so, an investigation of atmospheric motions invoked by irradiation becomes a necessary prerequisite.In the Introduction following this abstract, the problem at issue will be described in general terms, and phenomena outlined which should arise in this connection (together with the observations indicating their presence). In Section 2, general expressions for the radial velocity at any point of stellar surface arising from atmospheric motions will be formulated while Section 3 will isolate such velocities for components of close binary systems as are produced by mutual irradiation of their mates, in terms of hydrodynamical equations of radiative transfer describing the problem. In Sections 4 and 5, the effects of non-rotational motions on the observed radial velocities will be specified, and hydrodynamical equations formulated which specify atmospheric convection caused by irradiation of each component of a close binary by its mate. Linearized versions of such equations will be constructed in Section 6; while Section 7 contains an evaluation of the effects which such gas streams exert on the observed radial velocity of the stars.In the concluding Section 8 applications to practical cases are carried out. It will be shown that no reliable spectroscopic elements of close binary systems (including the masses and absolute dimensions of their components) can be obtained until the effects of atmospheric convection caused by mutual irradiation have been accounted for to permit us to convert the observed radial velocities (influenced as they are by the motion of as in which they originate) to those of the centre of mass of the respective stars.Paper dedicated to Professor Hannes Alfvén on the occasion of his 80th birthday, 30 May 1988.  相似文献

A computer code is proposed for the computation of simple NLTE models of solar prominences. These models consist of plane-parallel slabs, with constant pressure and temperature, standing vertically above the solar surface. Each model is defined by five parameters: temperature, density, geometrical thickness, microturbulent velocity and height above the solar surface. The code computes the electron density, hydrogen level populations inside the slab, and determines the line profiles and continua emitted by the slab. Some theoretical models are given which illustrate the structure of chromospheric magnetic fields associated with supergranulation. It is found that the chromospheric fields depend critically on whether or not there are large-scale vertical motions at the level where the horizontal supergranule motions are observed. In the absence of such motions, the concentration of field produced in the photosphere does not persist more than a few scale heights into the chromosphere; however, the chromospheric mass density is increased above the supergranule boundaries in this case. Completely different results-such as a chromospheric potential field-may be obtained by the inclusion of vertical motions. It is concluded that a rather wide range of chromospheric-field structures is consistent with present observational knowledge of the supergranulation.  相似文献

This paper surveys coronal motions detected by the Yohkoh soft X-ray telescope SXT, emphasizing `global restructuring'. Large-scale structures in the solar corona can persist for time scales much longer than those of the supergranulation, and may have larger spatial scales. Flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) can disrupt these structures. A grazing-incidence telescope such as SXT provides a view of the corona biased in temperature towards the hotter components, but in a thick `observing slice' (spatial contribution function). This helps in seeing excitation (energy release) but may conceal some of the structural changes. The observations of restructuring largely appear to consist of expanding or outwards magnetic motions, which are endoergic. This suggests a conjecture regarding the existence of magnetic implosions on scales not yet detected, as a source of free energy.  相似文献

The spectral lines Hα Hβ and CaII K of a quiescent prominence are studied using the completely linearized model. The physical parameters (Te, vt, NH) at several locations are obtained. Itis shown: (1) Near the axis of the prominence, kinetic temperature and hydrogen density decrease, while microturbulent velocity increases, with increasing height. (2) Near the edge, the kinetic temperature does not vary with height; but it increases from the center to the edge. (3) Hydrostatic equilibrium does not hold in prominences, and magnetic field plays an important role in supporting them.  相似文献
