This work describes the synthesis of poly(acrylic acid) microgels and fabrication of magnetic cobalt nanoparticles in the prepared microgels. Cobalt nanoparticles were fabricated by loading the cobalt (II) ions in microgels from aqueous solution and their subsequent reduction with sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Bare and composite microgels were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The catalytic properties of the prepared microgel composites were investigated by using them as catalyst for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol and methylene blue. The effect of temperature and catalyst dose on the rate of reduction of these toxic pollutants was investigated. The reusability of prepared catalysts was also studied for the five consecutive cycles, and an increase in catalytic activity was observed after every cycle. The prepared bare and magnetic microgels were found as very effective adsorbent for the removal of methylene blue from aqueous medium. Very rapid adsorption rate was found for the removal of methylene as its 100 mg was adsorbed on per gram of dried hydrogels in about 25 min. The effects of different parameters like amount of adsorbate and concentration of adsorbent on the adsorption process were studied. Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin adsorption isotherms were applied, and it was found that adsorption of MB follows Freundlich model better than others. Furthermore, pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models were also applied and adsorption of MB was found to abide by pseudo-second-order kinetics.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the biosorption of an azo dye (Methylene blue) by a wetland phytomass (Typha angustata) under post-phytoremediation scenario. Thus, the phytomass was used without any chemical modification. The batch adsorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of contact time and temperatures (25–45 °C) on the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution by cattail phytomass (CP). More than 80 % of MB dye was removed from the aqueous solution within first 10 min of the experiment. Langmuir isotherm was modeled to describe the monolayer adsorption of MB dye (R 2 = 0.995) with the maximum adsorption capacity of 8.1 mg/g at 25 °C. Pseudo-second-order kinetic model adequately described the kinetics of absorption process (R 2 = 0.999). The adsorption of MB on the cattail phytomass was a spontaneous and endothermic process that was governed by chemisorption. Hence, CP could be applied as a potential low cost biosorbent to treat dyeing wastewater.  相似文献

Environmental contamination resulting from dyes has become a serious concern for today’s world. The textile effluents are highly colored, and the disposal of these in water bodies causes severe damage to the environment by reducing the solar light penetration which may affect the photosynthetic activity and the aquatic life in water. Further, the high water solubility of dyes also leads to surface and ground water contamination. Thus, in this study, we attempt to develop a cost-effective and eco-friendly method for removal of toxic dyes from aqueous using biosynthesized iron nanoparticles (INPs). Various complimentary instruments such as a thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer, and X-ray diffraction were employed for identification and characterization of INPs. The biosynthesized INPs were applied as a Fenton-like catalyst for decolorization of toxic dyes solution like methylene blue, methyl orange, allura red, brilliant blue, and green S using hydrogen peroxide under solar radiation. The decolorization of the toxic dyes solution using INPs was monitored by UV–visible spectrophotometer, and the data obtained were utilized to evaluate the kinetic rate of the reactions. The kinetic data suggest that the decolorization of all studied toxic dyes solution follows first-order rate with rate constant values in the range of 13.1 × 10?3–17.7 × 10?3 min?1. Therefore, such a clean method employing non-toxic plant extract in INP synthesis and the application of INPs as a Fenton-like catalyst in toxic dyes decolorization can be considered as an alternative technique to the expensive and toxic chemical methods.  相似文献

In this study, sepiolite-nano zero valent iron composite was synthesized and applied for its potential adsorption to remove phosphates from aqueous solution. This composite was characterized by different techniques. For optimization of independent parameters (pH = 3–9; initial phosphate concentration = 5–100 mg/L; adsorbent dosage = 0.2–1 g/L; and contact time = 5–100 min), response surface methodology based on central composite design was used. Adsorption isotherms and kinetic models were done under optimum conditions. The results indicated that maximum adsorption efficiency of 99.43 and 92% for synthetic solution and real surface water sample, respectively, were achieved at optimum conditions of pH 4.5, initial phosphate concentration of 25 mg/L, adsorbent dosage of 0.8 g/L, and 46.26 min contact time. The interaction between adsorbent and adsorbate is better described with the Freundlich isotherm (R 2 = 0.9537), and the kinetic of adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order model. Electrostatic interaction was the major mechanisms of the removal of phosphates from aqueous solution. The findings of this study showed that there is an effective adsorbent for removal of phosphates from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The functionalized nano-clay composite adsorbent was prepared, and its properties were characterized using FT-IR, XRD and SEM techniques. The synthesized nano-clay composite was studied with regard to its capacity to remove ibuprofen under different adsorption conditions such as varying pH levels (5–9), initial ibuprofen concentrations (3, 5 and 10 mg L?1), contact time, and the amount of adsorbent (0.125, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 g). In order to evaluate the nanocomposite adsorption capacity, the adsorption results were assessed using nine isotherm models. The results showed that the optimum adsorption pH was 6 and that an increase or decrease in the pH reduced the adsorption capacity. The adsorption process was fast and reached equilibrium after 120 min. The maximum efficacy of ibuprofen removal was approximately 95.2%, with 1 g of adsorbent, 10 mg L?1 initial concentration of ibuprofen, 120 min contact time and pH = 6. The optimal adsorption isotherm models were the Freundlich, Fritz–Schlunder, Redlich–Peterson, Radke–Prausnitz, Sip, Toth and Khan models. In addition, four adsorption kinetic models were employed for adsorption system evaluation under a variety of experimental conditions. The kinetic data illustrated that the process is very fast, and the reaction followed the Elovich kinetic model. Therefore, this nano-clay composite can be used as an effective adsorbent for the removal of ibuprofen from aqueous solutions, such as water and wastewater.  相似文献

Peat of Brunei Darussalam shows a great potential for the removal of methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG) dyes from aqueous solution. Carefully controlled batch experiments performed by changing one parameter at a time indicate that the optimum time periods of agitation and settling required for maximum removal of MB are 2.0 and 1.0 h, respectively, while these values for MG are 4.0 and 1.0 h, respectively. The optimum pH is determined to be the ambient value, and under the optimum conditions, 90 % removal of both dyes was determined under laboratory conditions. The equilibrium adsorption data analyzed for various isotherm models suggest that the Sips and Redlich–Peterson (R–P) models are valid for MB and MG, respectively. Further, thermodynamic studies show that the adsorption of both dyes on peat is spontaneous and endothermic. The adsorption capacities (q max) of MB and MG dyes on peat are 0.45 and 0.31 mmol g?1, respectively. Characterization of the surfaces of peat before and after treatment of dyes by SEM and FTIR provides conclusive evidence of adsorption of both dyes. Kinetics studies indicate that the adsorption of both MB and MG dyes is favored toward the pseudo-second-order model, with a little contribution of MG to the pseudo-first-order model. These results suggest that peat is a potential low-cost adsorbent for the removal of MB and MG dyes.  相似文献

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) thin film coating was applied to improve the hydrophilia of biochar derived from black willow. 2 (2Al, 0.82 wt% Al2O3), 5 (5Al, 1.40 wt% Al2O3), and 10 (10Al, 2.36 wt% Al2O3) cycles of alumina ALD were applied. The biochars were characterized by inductively coupled plasma–atomic emission spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption and desorption, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The adsorbents were utilized for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from an aqueous solution to evaluate their adsorption capacities. The 5Al biochar showed the highest adsorption capacity, compared to the uncoated biochar and other Al2O3 coated biochars, due to its improved hydrophilia. The amount of MB adsorbed onto the 5Al biochar was almost three times that adsorbed onto the uncoated biochar during the first hour of adsorption experiments. Adsorption isotherms were modeled with the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The data fit well with the Langmuir isotherm, and the maximum adsorption capacities were found to be 26.8 and 35.0 mg/g at 25 °C for the uncoated biochar and 5Al biochar, respectively. The adsorbed MB amount per square meter achieved 1.3 mg/m2 onto the 5Al biochar, and it was twice the amount on the uncoated biochar. The experimental data were analyzed by pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetics models of adsorption. The pseudo-second-order model better describes adsorption kinetic data for the uncoated biochar and 5Al biochar than the pseudo-first-order model does.  相似文献

Liners are commonly used in engineered waste disposal landfill to minimize the potential contamination of the aquatic environment. The adsorption behavior of Cu(II) from aqueous solution onto clay admixed with various mix ratios of quarry fines was investigated. The amount of Cu(II) adsorption increases with increase in contact time. The copper removal efficiencies of the composite mixture gradually decrease from 94.53 % (raw clay) to 85.59 % (20 % of quarry fines with clay), and appreciable decrease in percent removal 75.61 % was found with 25 % of quarry fines with clay. The kinetic adsorption data were analyzed by pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Bhattacharya–Venkobachar and Natarajan–Khalaf kinetic models to classify adsorption process mechanisms. Kinetic experimental data were good agreement with pseudo-second-order kinetic model with the degree of fitness of the data (R 2) 0.9999 for the adsorption of Cu(II). The results revealed that quarry fines can be used with optimum of 20 % replacement of natural clay for removal of Cu(II) as a liner material in landfills.  相似文献

The carbon–alumina composite pellet was developed for the adsorption of acid fuchsin from its aqueous solution. The composite pellet was characterized using Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method, scanning Electron Microscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. The adsorption capacity of commercial alumina, commercial activated carbon and the prepared composite pellet was investigated against acid fuchsin, and the adsorption capacity was found to be increased in the order of alumina < carbon–alumina composite pellet < activated carbon. Although the adsorption capacity of carbon–alumina composite pellets was less than that of activated carbon, the use of the pelletized form of the present adsorbent was proven to be advantageous for the use in the packed-bed column. The experimental data were fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin adsorption isotherms, and the equilibrium behavior was well explained by Langmuir isotherm. Besides, the kinetic behavior was well predicted by pseudo-second-order kinetics. The effects of inlet dye concentration (10–20 mg/L), feed flowrate (5–15 mL/min) and bed height (2.54–7.62 cm) on the breakthrough characteristics were investigated using a fixed-bed column. The maximum removal capacity in the column study was found to be 343.87 mg/L with an initial dye concentration and flowrate of 20 and 10 mL/min according to Bohart–Adams model. The breakthrough behavior was also effectively described by the Yoon–Nelson and Clark models.  相似文献

A novel biosorbent synthesized from Ficus racemosa leaves based on the treatment using NaOH was applied for removal of Acid Blue 25 from aqueous solution. The synthesized biosorbent was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis. NaOH treatment was demonstrated to remove lignin content from the biomass and to induce the development of significant pores. Batch experiments were performed to evaluate the effect of important operating parameters such as pH (range of 2–10), biosorbent dose (range of 1–10 g/L), contact time (range of 0–5 h), initial dye concentration (range of 50–400 mg/L) and temperature (range of 293–323 K) on the extent of removal of Acid Blue 25. The established optimum conditions were pH of 2, biosorbent dose of 4 g/L, contact time of 3 h and temperature of 323 K, yielding maximum removal of dye. Pseudo-second-order model was found to best fit the kinetic data. Langmuir and Temkin isotherm models were found to best fit the equilibrium data. The obtained thermodynamic parameters confirmed endothermic and spontaneous nature of adsorption. The study established the utility of novel biosorbent for removal of Acid Blue 25 with higher adsorption capacities (83.33 mg/g) as compared to the more commonly used adsorbents. Desorption-adsorption  studies conducted for seven cycles indicated potential reusability of synthesized biosorbent for the treatment of dye effluents.  相似文献

The adsorption capacity of raw and sodium hydroxide-treated pine cone powder in the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution was investigated in a batch system. It was found that the base modified pine cone exhibits large adsorption capacity compared with raw pine cone. The extent of adsorption capacity was increased with the increase in NaOH concentration. Overall, the extent of MB dye adsorption increased with increase in initial dye concentration, contact time, and solution pH but decreased with increase in salt concentration and temperature for both the systems. Surface characteristics of pine cone and base modified pine cone were investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer and scanning electron microscope. Equilibrium data were best described by both Langmuir isotherm and Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity was found to be 129.87 mg g?1 at solution pH of 9.02 for an initial dye concentration of 10 ppm by raw pine cone. The base modified pine cone showed the higher monolayer adsorption capacity of 142.25 mg g?1 compared with raw pine cone biomass. The value of separation factor, R L, from Langmuir equation and Freundlich constant, n, both give an indication of favourable adsorption. The various kinetic models, such as pseudo-first-order model, pseudo-second-order model, intraparticle diffusion model, double-exponential model, and liquid film diffusion model, were used to describe the kinetic and mechanism of adsorption process. Overall, kinetic studies showed that the dye adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics based on other models. The different kinetic parameters, including rate constant, half-adsorption time and diffusion coefficient, were determined at different physicochemical conditions. A single-stage bath adsorber design for the MB adsorption onto pine cone and modified pine cone has been presented based on the Langmuir isotherm model equation. Thermodynamic parameters, such as standard Gibbs free energy (ΔG 0), standard enthalpy (ΔH 0) and standard entropy (ΔS 0), were also calculated.  相似文献

Novel sensible thermal storage materials (TSM) were first synthesized via thermally treating the green compact obtained using clay, kaolin tailings, and hematite as major raw materials. The samples were characterized using differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric, X-ray diffraction, thermal conductivities, petrography analysis, Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The thermal conductivity of the green compact reached 1.11–1.64 W m?1 K?1 after thermally treated at 200–1,000 °C. The clay component was proven to have a predominant effect on the thermal conductivity of the green compact. Kaolin tailings could act as a “modulator” for adjusting the thermal conductivity from 1.42 to 1.92 W m?1 K?1. Affecting mechanism of microstructural change of main components during sintering on thermal conductivity of TSM was prominently investigated. TSM could provide a potential candidate for thermal energy storage systems of concentrated solar power.  相似文献

In this study, the feasibility of using a low-cost adsorbent mixture composed of leonardite (L) and clinoptilolite (C) was evaluated by batch adsorption method using different parameters such as mixing ratio, contact time, pH, temperature, and adsorbent amount for the removal of Zn (II) ions from an aqueous solution. The adsorbents were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Additionally, leonardite–clinoptilolite mixture was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray. The Zn (II) adsorption along with an unprecedented adsorption capacity of 454.55 mg g?1 for unmodified natural sorbents was obtained by mixing leonardite and clinoptilolite (LC) without any pretreatment at a ratio of 3:1, using 0.1 g of sorbent at a pH 6, for 2 h of contact time. The experimental data showed a good fit for the Langmuir isotherm model. The thermodynamic parameters revealed that the present adsorption process was spontaneous and exothermic in nature (25–50 °C). The kinetic results of the adsorption showed that the Zn (II) adsorption onto the LC follows pseudo-second-order model. The resultant LC mixture has an excellent adsorption capacity of a Zn (II) aqueous solution, and data obtained may form the basis for utilization of LC as an unpretreated low-cost adsorbent for treatment of metalliferous industrial wastewater.  相似文献

In this study, the adsorption behavior of Ni(II) in an aqueous solution system using natural adsorbent Peganum harmala-L was measured via batch mode. The prepared sorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, N2 adsorption–desorption and pHzpc. Adsorption experiments were carried out by varying several conditions such as contact time, metal ion concentration and pH to assess kinetic and equilibrium parameters. The equilibrium data were analyzed based on the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherms. Kinetic data were analyzed using the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intra-particular diffusion models. Experimental data showed that at contact time 60 min, metal ion concentration 50 mg/L and pH 6, a maximum amount of Ni(II) ions can be removed. The experimental data were best described by the Langmuir isotherm model as is evident from the high R 2 value of 0.988. The adsorption capacity (q m) obtained was 68.02 mg/g at an initial pH of 6 and a temperature of 25 °C. Kinetic studies of the adsorption showed that equilibrium was reached within 60 min of contact and the adsorption process followed the pseudo-first-order model. The obtained results show that P. harmala-L can be used as an effective and a natural low-cost adsorbent for the removal of Ni(II) from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

This study assesses the ability of two low-cost adsorbents made from waste of Rapanea ferruginea treated with ethanol (WRf) and its H2SO4-treated analog (WRf/H2SO4) for the removal of two cationic dyes methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV) from aqueous solutions. The adsorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, thermogravimetric analysis, point of zero charge (pHpzc), specific surface, and functional groups. The adsorption of dye onto the adsorbents was studied as a function of pH solution (2–12), contact time (up to 120 min) and initial concentration (20–120 mg/L), and temperature (25, 35, and 55 °C). The influence of these parameters on adsorption capacity was studied using the batch process. The response surface methodology (RSM) was used in the experimental design, modeling of the process, and optimizing of the variables and was optimized by the response involving Box–Behnken factorial design (15 runs). The results show that the data correlated well with the Sips isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacities of MB and CV onto WRf were found to be 69 and 106 mg/g, and onto WRf/H2SO4, the adsorption capacities were 33 and 125 mg/g, respectively. The kinetic data revealed that adsorption of cationic dyes onto the adsorbents closely follows the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Regression analysis showed good fit of the experimental data to the second-order polynomial model, with coefficient of determination (R2) values for MB (R2?=?0.9685) and MB (R2?=?0.9832) for WRf and CV (R2?=?0.9685) and CV (R2?=?0.9832) for WRf/H2SO4 indicated that regression analysis is able to give a good prediction of response for the adsorption process in the range studied. The results revealed that waste from R. ferruginea is potentially an efficient and low-cost adsorbent for adsorption of MB and CV.  相似文献

Graphene oxide nanosheets were synthesized by electrochemical exfoliation. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Raman spectrometry and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry were used to characterize crystal structure, particle size, thickness and function groups of the nanosheets. The nanosheets were examined for adsorption of methyl orange, an anionic dye, in aqueous solution at different pHs and temperatures. The maximum adsorption capacity of methyl orange on graphene oxide nanosheets obtained from the Langmuir isotherm was 138.69 mg/g at pH 2.0, which is larger than that of other carbonaceous adsorbents. The large adsorption affinity of graphene oxide nanosheets to methyl orange might be due to the presence of hydrogen bonding and ππ interaction between methyl orange and graphene oxide nanosheets. Adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the isotherm adsorption results were fitted with Langmuir isotherm model in a monolayer adsorption manner. The thermodynamic studies indicated that the adsorption reaction was a spontaneous physisorption process.  相似文献

Sensitized ZnS nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical precipitation method using anthocyanin as the capping agent and sensitizer. X-ray diffractometer, field-emission scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscopy, UV visible spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectrometry methods were used for the characterization of nanoparticles. The electron microscopy studies of nanoparticles showed that the size of crystallites is in the range of 35–80 nm and optical studies showed a blue shift in the absorption edge by adding capping agent. The effective band gap energy was increased with decrease in the particle size. Photocatalytic activities of sensitized ZnS and pure ZnS were evaluated by degradation of tetracycline in aqueous solution under visible light irradiation, and progress of the reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically. The different parameters affecting degradation such as the pH of solution, amount of semiconductor and reusability of catalyst for three cycles and the photocatalytic degradation kinetics of tetracycline were studied. More than 80% degradation was achieved within 5 h under visible light.  相似文献

Abundantly available agricultural waste materials (banana bunch, sorghum stem and casuarinas fruit) are processed with negligible cost and are found to be highly suitable as biosorbents for chromium(VI) removal from aqueous environment due to high surface area and functional groups of adsorbents. The equilibrium data have been analyzed for the adsorbate–adsorbate/adsorbent interactions and found to be fitted to the data in the order, Hill–de Boer ≥ Fowler–Guggenheim ? Frumkin > Kiselev. To determine the characteristic parameters for process design, mass transfer studies have been carried out using two-parameter isotherm models (Harkins–Jura, Halsey, Smith, El-Awady and Flory–Huggins) and three-parameter isotherm models (Redlich–Peterson and Sips) which are applied to the experimental data. The fitness of the isotherms describes that both mono- and multilayer adsorptions occur in the present studied three biosorbents in preference to the latter. The mechanism of adsorption has been studied using diffusion kinetic models (viz. liquid film diffusion, Dunwald–Wagner intra-particle diffusion model and moving boundary model) and described the possibility of diffusion in the order of banana bunch–stem powder > sorghum stem powder > casuarinas fruit powder in terms of diffusion coefficients. In essence of all the results, the selected adsorbents can be used as a potential adsorbent for the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The sorption of phosphorus by using four different natural materials (marble dust, sawdust, soil, and rice husk) was studied by conducting batch tests and kinetic sorption model. The kinetic sorption model based on a pseudo equation was applied to predict the rate constant of sorption. Thorough investigations to understand the mechanism of phosphorus sorption onto the natural materials using kinetic sorption models, pseudo first- and second-order kinetic sorption model showed that the kinetic sorption is consistent with the second-order model, from which it can be inferred that the mechanism of sorption is chemisorption. Batch tests and kinetic sorption model results showed that by using marble dust as sorbent, among other materials, could remove more than 93 % of phosphorus from aqueous solution.  相似文献

Integrated data are presented on structure–morphology features, as well as on the material and phase composition, of a fluid-produced carbonaceous substance (CS) formed under known thermodynamic conditions of the experiment (C–O–H system, 500–800°C, and 500–1000 atm). Solid products of the synthesis were examined by means of X-ray phase and thermal analyses, scanning electron microscopy combined with microprobe analysis, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution Raman spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and CHN-analysis. The characteristics of the experimental CS may be applicable in genetic modeling of natural ore-bearing fluidal carbonaceous systems.  相似文献
