India's drive to improve agricultural performance includes a major commitment to develop many new large-scale irrigation systems. But existing systems perform far below design capacity. Analysis and correction of the problems in existing systems may help increase production and may also lead to improvements in the design of new schemes, particularly if there is improved understanding of the relationship between physical and social systems and improved management techniques. This paper is concerned with the structure and dynamics of modern retail facilities in Israel. It presents the first comprehensive quantitative study of the recent trends in Israeli retail. On the basis of an unique database that includes sizes and locations of retailers for a number of years, we test and challenge some of the traditional theories, as well as the latest approaches to the analysis of urban systems. Recent approaches view cities as self-organizing systems and utilize complexity theory and concepts of order. In the case of Israeli retail application of alternate methods of analysis suggests that the conventional regularities such as rank-size rule, as is implied by the central place theory or the more general power law do not hold. The findings reveal that the sizes of modern retailers display an exponential distribution, consistent across time and scale. This signifies a presence of stable regularity in the structure of retail sizes. Exponential distribution of the retail sizes is shown to reflect a lack of interdependence between the existing and the planned retail facilities. The issue of order versus randomness and self-organization in the size distribution of retailers remains debatable and requires further development of tools and universal criteria for analyzing complex systems.  相似文献

以模糊随机变量理论为指导,视模糊随机变量的均值为模糊数,基于小样本理论推导了均值模糊数模糊变化范围与样本数的关系式。采用截集敏感性分析法进行了边坡稳定的模糊随机有限元可靠度分析,得到了边坡的模糊随机可靠指标及模糊滑面的位置,研究了样本数与边坡模糊随机可靠指标的关系。分析表明,基于模糊随机变量理论的模糊随机可靠度分析方法是随机可靠度分析方法的自然推广;模糊随机可靠指标与样本数有关,随着样本数的改变,模糊随机可靠指标的中值也会发生微小变化,不是定值;在相同的置信度情况下,模糊随机可靠指标的变化范围随着样本数的增加而减小,可通过增加样本数的方式来减小模糊随机可靠指标的模糊性。  相似文献

粗糙度系数是结构面抗剪强度的主要影响因素,然而由于结构面表面形态的复杂性,粗糙度系数尺寸效应研究并未获得较大进展。总结了结构面粗糙度系数的3种获取手段:标准剖面对比法、理论公式法、试验反分析法。在此基础上分析了3种方法在研究粗糙度系数尺寸效应方面存在的问题和困难。为了研究结构面粗糙度系数与试样尺寸的相关度,对中砂、硅粉、水泥、非引气型萘系减水剂等原材料的配比进行了研究,获得了与天然钙质板岩物理力学特性相类似的岩石模型材料,然后采用研发的结构面制作模具及其制备工艺制作了8组共176对具有不同尺寸和表面起伏粗糙程度的结构面,并利用改进的高精度岩石结构面推拉仪对结构面粗糙度系数进行了推拉试验研究和数据统计分析,结果表明:模型结构面粗糙度系数的统计均值随试样尺寸的增加而降低,但特定结构面粗糙度系数的尺寸效应规律需要根据结构面的具体表面形貌进行测试;Barton理论公式计算的结构面粗糙度系数尺寸效应变化规律与推拉试验测试规律总体上一致,但试验值与理论值有差异,且结构面试样尺寸越小,二者的差异就越大;具有特定表面形貌的模型结构面粗糙度系数也有差异,工程大尺寸岩体结构面粗糙度系数需要根据表面形貌和分布特征进行综合判定。  相似文献

While Pareto’s law has been widely supported by empirical evidence in urban studies, past studies have focused on finding best fits for city rank-size distribution. A main concern with Pareto’s law is the truncation of sample selection, for which few studies have examined it directly. This study tests three existing threshold methods (number threshold, size threshold, and urban population percentage threshold) using China’s city system as a case study. In addition, this study proposes a new method based upon the percentage threshold of the total number of cities. A systematic analysis is applied to examine the relationship between Pareto exponent and sample size using different threshold methods. The results show that Pareto exponent is sensitive to sample size and the truncation point. Including only large cities is problematic because a slight change in the truncation point will yield quite different results of Pareto exponent. In addition, the new method, the percentage threshold of the total number of cities method, presents an advantage over previous methods, in that this method yields a consistent set of results over a wide range of thresholds. Finally, when using this new method with China’s city system, the Pareto exponent presents a turning point in 1996, representing China’s transition from a planned economy to a more market oriented economy during that period.  相似文献

New apatite helium and fission-track data from the Otway Basin are consistent with previously published borehole ages, confirming earlier suggestions that existing thermal models for basin evolution should be reevaluated. Analysis of the relationship between helium ages and grain size in newly analyzed samples, as well as in samples previously reported, reveals that grain size variations may contribute to the previously reported scatter in helium ages among aliquots of the same sample. In addition, systematic variations in apatite grain size with borehole depth or temperature may also have a significant effect on the interpretation of borehole helium age data. Incorporation of the observed grain size variations in Otway borehole apatites into forward models based on published thermal histories, principally based on vitrinite reflectance and fission-track data, suggests that existing models for the eastern Otway Basin are broadly consistent with the helium data. In contrast, thermal histories for western basin boreholes, now thought to be at maximum temperatures, predict helium ages that are generally older than the observed ages, implying that basin temperatures were hotter than indicated by the models. This discrepancy is consistent with a Cenozoic heating event in parts of the western Otway Basin similar to that documented for the eastern basin. The relatively wide spread of apparent apatite fission-track (AFT) ages and compositions compared to the restricted age range of helium measurements on coexisting grains, although not conclusive, supports previous suggestions that composition does not appear to affect the sensitivity of the He closure temperature in apatite.  相似文献

Volcanic breccia is a representative heterogeneous rock. As a preliminary study for determining its mechanical properties in laboratory and field experiments, its material properties and structural features were described. Three-dimensional clast-size distribution was also estimated for the study site using the theory of stereology. With this distribution determined, a numerical simulation was performed to investigate the relationship between the volumetric proportion of clasts in a sample and the areal proportion and maximum length of clasts on a lateral surface of the sample. The following observations were made: (1) coefficients of variation for volumetric proportion are dependent on the size of the sample, and became large when the size of the sample is small; (2) samples with a small coefficient of variation can be selected at any size if a restriction is placed on the ratio, Dmax/D0, of the maximum length of clasts to the size of the sample; and (3) the volumetric proportion of clasts in each sample can be estimated from the observed areal proportions within an error range that depends on the whole volumetric proportion.  相似文献

The strength of raw ironmaking materials is usually determined by tumble and shatter tests. Although an average result for a bulk sample is determined, the strength index is empirical and its numerical value cannot be used to predict the extent of breakage for a particular material handling circuit. A new experimental procedure has been developed to measure the strength based on the extent of breakage of agglomerates repeatedly dropped from a predetermined height. The drop procedure combined with impact and breakage theories has been used to quantify the effect of particle size and drop height on the extent of breakage of lump materials such as iron ore sinter, coke, coal and iron ore. Results from a plant trial indicated that the drop procedure could also be used to examine the stabilization effect of brittle material due to repeated dropping during handling.  相似文献

Empirical criteria have been used successfully to design filters of most embankment large dam projects throughout the world. However, these empirical rules are only applicable to a particular range of soils tested in laboratory and do not take into account the variability of the base material and filter particle sizes. In addition, it is widely accepted that the safety of fill dams is mainly dependent on the reliability of their filter performance. The work herein presented consists in a new general method for assessing the probability of fulfilling any empirical filter design criteria accounting for base and filter heterogeneity by means of first‐order reliability methods (FORM), so that reliability indexes and probabilities of fulfilling any particular criteria are obtained. This method will allow engineers to estimate the safety of existing filters in terms of probability of fulfilling their design criteria and might also be used as a decision tool on sampling needs and material size tolerances during construction. In addition, sensitivity analysis makes possible to analyse how reliabilities are influenced by different sources of input data. Finally, in case of a portfolio risk assessment, this method will allow engineers to compare the safety of several existing dams in order to prioritize safety investments and it is expected to be a very useful tool to evaluate probabilities of failure due to internal erosion. 针对农业地质环境调查发现的重金属高值区带和土地生态安全问题,建立了农业地质地球化学评价方法.该方法以元素地球化学循环和元素生物循环为理论依据,在已有研究成果和调查数据基础上,针对自然状态下农作物籽实中重金属元素与其在土壤中的质量分数间的复杂相应关系,建立了土壤-籽实响应关系模型,进而以镉为例,利用该模型并根据国家食品中镉限量卫生标准计算确定评价标准值,并据此将土地划分为安全土地、基本安全土地、警戒土地和危险土地4级,从而实现了利用土壤地球化学调查数据进行土地生态安全性评价的方法探索.  相似文献

Geostatistical analyses require an estimation of the covariance structure of a random field and its parameters jointly from noisy data. Whereas in some cases (as in that of a Matérn variogram) a range of structural models can be captured with one or a few parameters, in many other cases it is necessary to consider a discrete set of structural model alternatives, such as drifts and variograms. Ranking these alternatives and identifying the best among them has traditionally been done with the aid of information theoretic or Bayesian model selection criteria. There is an ongoing debate in the literature about the relative merits of these various criteria. We contribute to this discussion by using synthetic data to compare the abilities of two common Bayesian criteria, BIC and KIC, to discriminate between alternative models of drift as a function of sample size when drift and variogram parameters are unknown. Adopting the results of Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations as reference we confirm that KIC reduces asymptotically to BIC and provides consistently more reliable indications of model quality than does BIC for samples of all sizes. Practical considerations often cause analysts to replace the observed Fisher information matrix entering into KIC with its expected value. Our results show that this causes the performance of KIC to deteriorate with diminishing sample size. These results are equally valid for one and multiple realizations of uncertain data entering into our analysis. Bayesian theory indicates that, in the case of statistically independent and identically distributed data, posterior model probabilities become asymptotically insensitive to prior probabilities as sample size increases. We do not find this to be the case when working with samples taken from an autocorrelated random field.  相似文献

采用6种不同缩尺方法将同一条现场级配曲线缩制成不同的数值模拟级配曲线,建立以不同粒径范围内颗粒数为测量数的分形模型,研究了颗粒级配分布的分形特性;基于颗粒流方法,生成与级配曲线相对应的6组数值试样进行双轴压缩试验,研究了缩尺方法对数值试样宏观力学特性及细观力学响应的影响;并讨论了颗粒级配分布的分形特性与数值试样力学特性之间的关系。结果表明:采用不同方法缩尺后数值试样的颗粒级配分布具有分形特性,分维数D为1.463~1.783;随着缩尺方法相似比尺M的增大,数值试样中细颗粒数量增多,粗细颗粒的充填关系得到改善,力学特性逐步提高;颗粒级配分布分维数D与数值试样力学特性指标之间存在较好的线性关系。  相似文献

冻土中水分迁移是导致土体冻胀的关键因素,而研究水分迁移及其驱动力的核心问题是要充分理解未冻水含量与温度、基质吸力等变量之间的关系,这些关系可充分体现土体在冻融过程中土水变化特征。长期以来,对土体冻融特征的研究采取的是与非饱和土力学中的土水特征类比的方法进行,结果也证明了二者存在一定的相似性。但是冻土中因冰-水相界面作用产生基质吸力与融土中水-气相界面作用产生基质吸力的机理并不完全相同,而由于相变等其他作用产生的冻融滞后效应与融土中孔隙“墨水瓶效应”等引起的滞后效应机理也有区别。针对这些机理性的不同,还需要做大量的研究工作才能真正揭示土体的冻融特征。通过对目前土体冻融特征方面研究进展和存在问题的归纳总结,笔者认为今后在这方面还需深入开展如下研究:建立适合各类土壤冻融特征的一般预测模型,使得在缺少数据条件下能快速获取所需土样的冻融特征;研究土体在冻融和干湿变化过程中存在的类似性及区别,对冻融过程中存在的滞后效应机理给出合理的解释;提升冻融特征变量的测试技术水平,研发高精度的相关仪器设备。  相似文献

由于结构面粗糙度具有各质异性、各向异性、非均一性和尺寸效应等特征,结构面粗糙度系数(JRC)取值具有不确定性,工程中广泛采用统计方法来分析结构面粗糙度性质,然而以往研究往往忽略样本数不足对统计结果的影响。针对结构面粗糙度统计测量时无法确定合理样本数的问题,分别提出基于变异系数级比分析及简单随机抽样原理的最小样本数确定方法。以实际工程岩体结构面表面数据为研究对象,对比分析两种方法在系列尺寸下确定的统计测量最小样本数。实例分析表明:小尺寸样本的变异系数(CV)值明显大于大尺寸样本,且CV值随取样尺寸的增大而减小,取样尺寸为10~50 cm的CV值基本稳定在0.31~0.47之间,取样尺寸为60~100 cm的CV值基本稳定在0.21~0.31之间;最小样本数与取样尺寸基本满足幂函数关系,且最小样本数随取样尺寸的增大而减少;系列尺寸下级比分析方法在允许误差为±2%时确定的最小样本数与简单随机抽样原理在最大允许误差为10%、置信度为95%时计算的最小样本数是一致的,相似度大于0.997。该研究方法可为工程岩体中定量获取结构面粗糙度统计测量最小样本数提供依据,保证了JRC(结构面粗糙度系数)统计测量结果的准确性,对工程岩体稳定性评价中结构面力学参数的准确获取具有重要意义。  相似文献

经典土压力理论只能计算挡土墙位移达到极限状态时的土压力。为了更贴近工程实际,需要发展非极性土压力理论,但以往的研究仅限于砂土。对于黏性土的非极限主动土压力,在已有成果的基础上,从黏性土的应力莫尔圆出发,推导了介于初始状态和极限主动状态之间的中间状态时,黏性土的内摩擦角? 随墙体位移变化的关系公式;同时考虑了墙土接触面上外摩擦角? 和黏聚力cw的影响,根据黏性土应力莫尔圆的几何关系得到了土体黏聚力c与墙体位移的关系;最后应用水平分层法求得了非极限状态时黏性土的主动土压力计算公式。与模型试验数据的对比分析表明,理论计算值和试验实测值基本吻合。研究表明,计算方法对于计算黏性土在非极限状态时的主动土压力具有一定的理论意义,在实际工程中也具有相应的实用价值。  相似文献

Bulk sample analysis of Late- and Postglacial sediments from the Randers fjord area, Eastern Jutland, seem to indicate a relationship between palaeosalinity and B, Li and Rb contents determined on weak acid extracts of the sediment. Investigations of different size fractions, grain size distribution, and of clay minerals show, however, that variations in palaeosalinity as determined by palaeontological methods in this case have no direct influence on the chemistry. The variation of Li and Rb is related to variation in grain size, while the B variation seems to be related to the content of montmorillonite in the clay fraction.  相似文献

Internal instability is a phenomenon of fine particle redistribution in granular materials under the seepage action and consequent change in the soil’s internal structure and hydraulic and mechanical properties. It is one of the primary causes of failures of sand-gravel foundations and embankment dams. The criteria establishment is considered the key to solving the erosion problems, so the existing internal stability criteria need a review and classification to study the recent development trends in soil seepage and erosion. Therefore, this paper aims at reviewing the internal stability factors of gap-graded soil with a focus on the internal erosion mechanism and internal stability evaluation based on geometric and hydraulic criteria. Firstly, the paper compared the effect of several commonly used geometric criteria for gap-graded soil evaluation, such as particle size, fine content, void ratio, and fractal dimension. Furthermore, it provided a hydraulic criteria overview and analyzed the effects of the hydraulic gradient, hydraulic shear stress, confining pressure, and pore velocity on internal erosion. The geometric–hydraulic coupling methods were introduced, with a detailed elaboration of the erosion resistance index method based on accumulated dissipated energy. The capabilities and limitations of these criteria were discussed throughout the paper. It was found that combined Kezdi’s criterion and Kenney and Lau’s criterion is more reliable to evaluate internal stability of soil. The gap-graded soil with fine particle content higher than 35% is not necessarily internally stable. Finally, the energy-based method (erosion resistance index method) can effectively reproduce the total amount of erosion mass and the final spatial distribution of fine particles and identifies erosion. The review's outcome can be used as a basis to evaluate the internal erosion risk for gap-graded soils. The evaluation methods discussed here can help identify the zones of relatively high erosion potential.
