Salt marshes play a significant roll in the marine and coast ecological systems. They can function as a sink for pollutants that would otherwise be harmful to the environment. Our investigation is mainly focused on clay mineralogy of the salt marsh sediment, metal associations in the environment of the modern (centennial) salt marsh sediment and possible relation between these metal associations and clay minerals involved. The studied salt marsh is located in the Skalingen Peninsula, West Denmark. About 85 percent of the deposited materials, including the heavy metals, was imported from the North Sea while only a small quantity of the materials was transported through the Varde River whose mouth is located about 10 km from the salt marsh, at the opposite side of the lagoon. A 25 cm high monolithic profile of the salt marsh sediment was collected and was cut into 1-cm slices. The rate of sediment accumulation, detailed grain size distribution, clay mineralogy, dating of the profile (^210Pb and ^137Cs), content of organic matter as well as 17 metals: K, Ca, Ti, Mn, Fe, V, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Br, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb were investigated. Principal components and factor analyses demonstrated strong positive loadings for most of the studied metals, fine grain fractions as well as organic matter, indicating a close relation among these components. Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Rb were found best correlated to the clay fraction (〈2 microns), which comprises primarily illite, kaolinite, minor chlorite and lesser smectite/illite mixed layer.  相似文献

In its natural state uranium has three isotopes; ^238U (99.27 atom % abundance), ^235U (0.72%) and ^234U (0.0055%), with the ^235U : ^238U activity ratio having a constant value of 0.045 and the ^234U:^238U activity ratio commonly ranging 0.8-1.2 for soils and sediments (e.g. Fisenne 1996). Uranium enrichment, the process by which the fissile isotope ^235U is concentrated for the production of nuclear fuel, generates a waste product that is depleted in both ^235U and ^234U. Depleted uranium (DU) therefore has a distinct isotopic signature that can be used to monitor contamination arising from the use of munitions containing it (i.e., DU weapons and armour). The UK Ministry of Defense has tested such munitions at coastal locations in SW Scotland and NW England, resulting in possible contamination of the surrounding terrestrial and marine environments. We examined the U isotope distribution in surface soil (top 10 cm) and salt marsh sediment samples from these locations using alpha spectrometry to determine the extent of any DU contamination from the munitions testing programme. Despite 〉30 t of DU shells having been fired into the sea in this region there was no evidence of deviation from the natural ^234U : ^238U activity ratio range in salt marsh samples. The ^235U : ^238U activity ratio could not be used to assess these salt marsh samples because ^235U activities were at the limit of detection for alpha spectrometry.  相似文献

The tin-bearing topaz-quartz porphyry in the Yanbin area is subvolcanic in origin, derved from granitic residual magma through strong crystallization differentiation. The rock contains various types of inclusions(hydroxyyl-melt,vapor-rich,halite-bearing multiphase, and liquid-rich),which permits us to trace the evolutionary path of the fluid. It is suggested that immiscibility took place in a pulsating manner between melts and fluids during the rock-forming process with the homogenization temperatures ranging from 580℃to180℃ and the salinities varying from low through high to low(5.1-10.5→6.9-21.4→20-48→16-22→2-10 in wt% NaCl).The hydroxyl-melt inclusions are considered as evidence of magma-hydrothermal transition。  相似文献

A Paleoproterozoic A—type Rhyolite   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The rhyolites in the upper Lueliang Group of Shanxi,China, are Paleoproterozoic weakly alkaline volcanic rocks. They are characterized by high,SiO2,NaO K2O,Zr,Nd,Ga,Y and REE contents and large FeO^*/MgO,Rb/Sr and Ga/Al ratios, and low CaO,Sr and Eu contents, and share much in common with the A-type granitic rocks. They erupted in the rift setting at the continental margin.Chemical features and isotope data,as well as high Nd and low initial Sr ratios, suggest that the original granitic magma was derived from partial melting of Late Archean metamorphic rocks in the lower crust due to the influence of basaltic magma and hot fluid in response to rifting. The A-type rhyolites were finally formed after the fractional crystallization of the dominant mineral feldspar.  相似文献

Two principal hydrothermal events have been recognized ,which resulted in the tin-bearing skarns at Red-A-ven ,Northwest Dartmoor.Tin was enriched during both the early (occurring as tin-bearing andradite) and late hydrothermal events (mainly as malayaite stannite and cassiterite, accompanied by boron silicates and minor tungsten).Thermometric measurements of fluid inclusions in diopside,garnet,malayaite,tourmaline-quartz and axinite were carried out, suggesting that the early skarns were formed at the temperature above 600℃and the salinities ranging from 10 to 20 wt.% NaCl eq.while the late skarns at the temperatures of 350-460℃ and the salinities ranging from 30 to 50wt.% NaCl eq.The estimated minimum depths are 2856m(850 bar) for the early event and 2526m(185 bar) for the late event. The birefringence of the andradite might be related with the superimposition of late hydrothermal fluids.  相似文献

A variety of distinct salt tectonic features are present in the Sab’atayn Basin of western Yemen. Based on the interpretation of regional 2D seismic reflection data and exploration wells in the central part of the basin, an Upper Jurassic evaporite formation produced numerous salt rollers, salt pillows, reactive, flip-flop, and falling diapirs. Due to regional extension, halokinetics began as soon as the early Cretaceous, within just a few million years after the deposition of the Tithonian Sab’atayn evaporite sequence, by formation of salt rollers. The salt locally formed salt pillows which evolved to reactive and active salt diapirs and diapiric salt walls as the result of renewed, but low-strain extension in the basin. Some of the diapiric walls further evolved into falling diapirs due to ongoing extension. As the result of a prominent extensional episode at the end of the Cretaceous, many of the diapiric walls in the basin are controlled by large normal faults on their updip flanks. As the post-Cretaceous sedimentary cover is largely missing in the study area, the assumed reactivation of salt structures during the Cenozoic remains poorly constrained. The interpreted changes in the style of salt tectonics in the Sab’atayn Basin offer a better understanding of the regional-scale tectonic development of the Arabian plate during the late Jurassic and Cretaceous.  相似文献

The late Proterozoic Malani bimodal volcanics constitute the largest suite of anorogenic acid volcanics in India. The volcanism took place during 745±10 Ma ago, succeeding the granitic activity of Abu pluton and ceased before the onset of Marwar sedimentation. On the basis of field evidences, three stages of igneous activity have been recognised. Volcanics of the first stage are mostly basalt with occasional andesite or trachybasalts. These are subsequently covered by the voluminous outpouring of peralkaline and peraluminous rhyolite, basalt, dacite and trachyte flows. The third stage ceased with the outburst of ash flow deposits. The dominant felsic volcanics are rhyolites and rhyodacites spread over an area of about 31, 000 km2. The other rock types associated with rhyolite are trachytes, dacites, pitchstone, welded tuff, vitric, lithic and crystal ash, ignimbrite, obsidian, pyroclastic slates, agglomerate, volcanic breccia and volcanic conglomerates. Majority of the acid volcanics are high potassic and a few are calcalkaline or low potassic in composition.Feldspar geothermometry suggests the temperature of equilibrium to be above 650°C. Similar results were obtained by magnetite-ulvospinel geothermometry. Oxygen fugacity is estimated to be about 10−18 under FMQ-Ni-NiO buffer conditions.Malani volcanism was essentially under terrestrial conditions, although deposition by aqueous conditions are also indicated. The volcanic eruptions have been through fissures, shield volcanoes and central cones. The volcanism was triggered in an extensional tectonic regime of continental crust, where geotherm was raised by the repeated influx of basic magma. The initial basaltic magma was possibly generated at deeper depth by ‘hot spot’ activity. This magma while migrating upwards supplied additional heat for the partial melting of lower sialic crust resulting in the generation of felsic magma. The crustal extension has helped in the upward advancement of the felsic magma.  相似文献

Conway Castle is an immense historical structure, dating back to 1289 AC. It was built on highly dipping thickbeds of indurated shale (argillite) and sandstone. It is surrounded by Conway Bay, railway lines, and tall dense forests indicating high relative humidity and rainfall in this coastal area. The castle suffers from weathering noted as honeycomb, black crust, exfoliation, and discoloration with white salt efflorescence at some parts; these are diagnostic features for salt weathering as confirmed by the laboratory investigations using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), point XRD, and hydrochemical analysis. The salt is found to be from three sources, namely, water spray from Conway Bay that is part of the Irish Sea, chemical alteration of the mortars carbonate content into sulfate salts by acid rain, and wet deposition of air pollutants on the surface of the stone. The cracks noted in the southwestern tower of this castle are a result of landslides in this area that resulted from three factors: (a) high dip angle of the indurated sandstone and shale thickbeds (about 60–65° to the south) under this castle, (b) undercutting of these beds in the dip direction by the surface water of Conway Bay, and (c) seismic waves generated by the trains passing close to this castle. All these factors result in land sliding even at a low rate; however, the net result is cracks in the tower close to these factors.  相似文献

A new hadrosauroid dinosaur,Shuangmiaosaurus gilmorei gen.et sp.nov,is descuibed based on a complete left maxilla with articulated premaxilla and lacrimal fragments, and a complete left dentary from the mid-Cretaceous Sunjiawan Formation of Beipiao.Liaoning, northeastern China.Chadistic analysis shows that Shuangmiaosaurus is a basal hadrosauroid, and comprises the sister taxon to Hadrosauridae. In both Shuangmiaosqurus and Hadrosaurids. However,Shuangmiaosaurus does not possess such hadrosaurid synapomorphies as the diamond-shaped maxillary crowns with reduced primary ridges and reduced marginal denticles.  相似文献

Original data on the ore composition are obtained by studying samples from mining workings. In terms of mineral composition, gold-productive veinlets are subdivided into three types: sulfide–quartz, sulfide–carbonate–quartz, and sulfide. The wall-rock metasomatites and typomorphic features of the minerals are studied and the genetic problems of the ores and deposit are discussed. It is established that the Malinovka deposit is ascribed to the gold–tourmaline type (gold–quartz formation), which is identified for the first time in Primorye. In terms of many parameters, the ores of this type are close to those of the large deposits from the Transbaikalian and Amur regions (Klyuchevsky, Kariy, Kirov, Darasun, and others), which are genetically related to granitoid magmatism.  相似文献
