We systematically surveyed the orbits of short-period (SP) comets that show a large change of perihelion distance (q) between 1–2 AU (visible comets) and 4–5 AU (invisible comets) during 4400 years. The data are taken from Cosmo-DICE (Nakamura and Yoshikawa 1991a), which is a long-term orbital evolution project for SP comets. Recognizing that q is the most critical element for observability of comets, an invisibility factor (f), defined as the ratio of unobservable time span to observable span during 4400 years, is calculated for each of the large-q-change comets. A detection limit for each comet is obtained from the heliocentric distance at discovery and/or the absolute magnitude at recent apparitions. A mean f value for 35 SP comets with 2.9 J (J is the Tisserand's invariant) is found to be 19.8. This implies that for each visible SP comet of this J-range, at every epoch of time, there exist about 20 invisible comets near the capture orbits by Jupiter, under the assumptions of steady-state flux and ergodicity for the SP-comet population.  相似文献

The Bobrovnikoff and Beyer photometric data for more than 100 comets have been analyzed for intrinsic brightness variations, before andafter perihelion, according to ther –n law, wherer is solar distance. The Oort and Schmidt classification of comet age has been extended and applied with Marsden's new determinations of inverse semi-major axis, 1/a, original. All classes of comets withP>25 yr show statistically the same value ofn after perihelion. New comets approach perihelion with smaller values ofn and older comets with increasingly larger values (Table II). For comets ofP<25 yr,n is larger and erratic.A physical interpretation involves the quick loss of a frosting of super-volatile materials from new comets; then, for all comets, the development of an insulating crust after perihelion. The crust also includes globs of meteoroidal and icy material. The crust tends to be purged near perihelion but generally to grow in a spotty fashion with cometary age. The orientation of the axes of rotating comets is shown to be an important unknown factor in cometary brightness variations. A speculation is made concerning the axis of rotation for C/Kohoutek, 1973 XII.Paper dedicated to Professor Hannes Alfvén on the occasion of his 70th birthday, 30 May 1978.This research has been supported by Grant No. NSG 7082 from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration.  相似文献

The eighth list of blue stellar objects in the second part of the First Byurakan Spectral Sky Survey (FBS) is presented. The objects are located in the zone +65° +69° and 5 h 15m 18 h 05m.The list contains data on 98 blue stellar objects detected, of which 73 are previously unknown. A preliminary classification of the objects is given. The exact coordinates of the centers and the limiting magnitudes of the plates for this zone have been determined using the charts of the Palomar Sky Survey.Translated from Astrofizika, Vol. 37, No. 2, pp. 197–206, April–June, 1994.This work has been performed with financial support of the ESO C&EE fund (A-02-043).  相似文献

The relevant data for the known 147 pulsars are presented in graphical and tabular forms. Various data correlations are discussed, and a detailed analysis of pulsar dispersion measures and distances is given. The range of the electron densities in the diffuse interstellar medium is found to be 0.01 cm–3n e0.1 cm–3, and n e0.03 cm–3. The dispersion scale height for pulsars is found to be 5.9±0.7 pc cm–3 implying a linear scale height of 200 pc, which is much smaller than the electron scale height of our Galaxy.Astrophysics and Space Science Review Paper.  相似文献

Surface photometry of the UV continuum galaxy NGC 838 has been carried out in theB, V system using photographic plates obtained with the 74 Kottamia telescope, Egypt. Isophotes, luminosity profiles, integrated photographic magnitudes, effective diameters and other photometric parameters are derived. The photoelectrically calibrated total apparent magnitudes areB T =13.57 with maximum diameters 1.57×1.34 (at threshold m =27.7 mag.//) andV T =12.91 with maximum diameters 1.54×1.32 (at threshold m =27.7 mag./). The integrated colour index(B–V) T =0.66 and the effective surface brightness e (B=19.0 mag./) and e (V=19.7 mag./. The major axis is at position angle =85°±1°.The nucleus of NGC 838 is quite blue (integrated colour(B–V)=0.41 forr *<0.1) compared to normal galaxies while the colour becomes redder from the nucleus outwards. The UV excess, H emission and radio continuum emission previously observed from this galaxy by other investigators may be attributed to a recent burst of star formation in the nucleus of the galaxy of duration slightly greater than 2×107 yr.  相似文献

Reasons for interest in the origin of short-period comets and the difficulties of computing their long-term dynamcal evolution are reviewed. The relative advantages of a source region in an extended inner core of the Oort cloud or a compact comet belt just beyond the planetary system are finely balanced, and it is premature to consider the problem solved. A complication is that some comets belonging to the Jupiter family may be part of a time-dependent system, possibly the remains of a giant comet such as Chiron which could have been part of the system 104 yr ago. The origin of short-period comets plays a pivotal role in many areas of solar system science: planet formation, the source of water (possibly life) on the terrestrial planets, the cratering record on the terrestrial planets and satellites of the outer planets, and the environmental impact posed by massive bodies and their decay products in the Earth's near-space environment.  相似文献

A number of Jupiter family comets such as Otermaand Gehrels 3make a rapid transition from heliocentric orbits outside the orbit of Jupiter to heliocentric orbits inside the orbit of Jupiter and vice versa. During this transition, the comet can be captured temporarily by Jupiter for one to several orbits around Jupiter. The interior heliocentric orbit is typically close to the 3:2 resonance while the exterior heliocentric orbit is near the 2:3 resonance. An important feature of the dynamics of these comets is that during the transition, the orbit passes close to the libration points L 1and L 2, two of the equilibrium points for the restricted three-body problem for the Sun-Jupiter system. Studying the libration point invariant manifold structures for L 1and L 2is a starting point for understanding the capture and resonance transition of these comets. For example, the recently discovered heteroclinic connection between pairs of unstable periodic orbits (one around the L 1and the other around L 2) implies a complicated dynamics for comets in a certain energy range. Furthermore, the stable and unstable invariant manifold tubes associated to libration point periodic orbits, of which the heteroclinic connections are a part, are phase space conduits transporting material to and from Jupiter and between the interior and exterior of Jupiter's orbit.  相似文献

In the last four years we have carried out a number of studies on the radiative and collisional processes in theA 2 i state of CN. Many of these of interest to those studying planetary atmospheres, comets and solar spectra are summarized in this paper. Data for CNA 2 i fluorescence lifetimes and quenching rates, and collisional energy transfer between CNA 2 i andX 2+ are reported. Detailed comparisons and a discussion of the results may be found in several already published papers.  相似文献

Possibilities to explain the observed 1/a-distribution are discussed in the light of improved understanding of the dynamical evolution of long-period comets. It appears that the fading problem applies both to single-injection and continuous-injection models. Although uncertainties due to nongravitational effects do not allow detailed results to be drawn from the observed 1/a-distribution at small perihelion distance q, that for q 1.5 AU shows that a constant fading probability cannot explain all the features of the observed distribution. Assuming that comets can reappear following a period of fading, values for the assumed constant fading and renewal probabilities, and the total cometary flux have been estimated for q > 1.5 AU.  相似文献

The flux of near-parabolic comets in the outer-planetary region is estimated on the presumption that the major planets and the galactic tide control the dynamics of comets. It is found that the flux of the Oort cloud comets (semi-major axis > 20000 AU) is similar to the case of a strong comet shower derived on the presumption that the galactic tidal force were not operative. On the other hand, the flux of comets with semi-major axes <- 20000 AU is found to be an increasing function of q (perihelion distance) until q reaches 20 AU, while for a 45000 AU it is a rapidly increasing function for q 12 AU. In other words, for comets of the inner extension of the Oort cloud the planetary perturbation acts as a strong barrier for them to penetrate into the inner planetary region.  相似文献

On the basis of empirical (D)-dependency at the frequency of 5 GHz constructed using 15 planetary nebulae with the independently measured distances (10–171×10–20 W m–2 Hz–1 ster–1), we evaluated distances of 335 objects. Independent evidence of the correctness of the accepted scale are given. Then(D)-dependency is constructed and it is shown that atD<0.08 pc the mean electron density is higher than the one determined by the Seaton method. We showed that the filling factor diminishes with the increase of the PN diameter (1 atD0.08 pc and 0.2 atD0.4 pc). the ionized mass of 33 PNs is determined. With the diameter increase the ionized mass grows and atD0.4 pc reaches the valueM0.07M . We used the new distance scale when investigating the space distribution of PNs. The mean scale height =130±15 pc and the mean gradient of the change of surface densitym=0.37, which allowed us to estimate the total number of nebulae in the GalaxyN4×104. We divided the PNs according to their velocities (withV LSR>35 km s–1 andV LSR<35 km s–1) and permitted us to confirm that the PN belong to different sub-systems of the Galaxy. The estimated local formation rate of PNs [=(4.6±2.2)×10–12 pc–3 yr–1] is a little higher than the one of the white dwarfs. That can be explained by a large number of PNs having binary cores, which used in our sample. The statistical estimation of PN expansion velocity showed thatV ex increases from 5–7 km s–1 (atD0.03 pc) to 40–50 km s–1 (atD0.8 pc).  相似文献

The orbits of planetcrossing asteroids (and comets) can undergo close approaches and collisions with some major planet. This introduces a singularity in the Nbody Hamiltonian, and the averaging of the equations of motion, traditionally used to compute secular perturbations, is undefined. We show that it is possible to define in a rigorous way some generalised averaged equations of motion, in such a way that the generalised solutions are unique and piecewise smooth. This is obtained, both in the planar and in the threedimensional case, by means of the method of extraction of the singularities by Kantorovich. The modified distance used to approximate the singularity is the one used by Wetherill in his method to compute probability of collision. Some examples of averaged dynamics have been computed; a systematic exploration of the averaged phase space to locate the secular resonances should be the next step.'Alice sighed wearily. The effective temperatures radii and bolometric magnitudes of Ap, Am and normal A stars have been estimated from their energy distribution curves between 478 nm and 680 nm. All the Am stars and one Ap star (i.e. CrB) were found to be affected by line blanketing, a rough estimation of which in the respective (B-V) colours has been found out in each case. The range in effective temperature is 0.45–0.60 in terms of (=5040/T e), while it is 1.8–4.8R in the case of radius, that in bolometric magnitude being from-0m.67 to+1m.61. An approximate estimate of the masses shows that they are between 1.5 and 3.0M . All these estimates are in agreement with those of the normal A stars. The Ap and Am stars are found to be slightly evolved and, therefore, are probably in the hydrogen shell-burning phase.  相似文献

We develop an automatic, computer controlled procedure to select and to analyze the Network Bright Points (NBPs) on solar images. These have been obtained at the Sac Peak Vacuum Tower Telescope by means of the Universal Birefringent Filter and Zeiss H filters, tuned, respectively, along the profiles of the H, Mg-b1, Na-D2, and H lines.A structure is identified as an NBP if at the wavelength H- 1.5 A its maximum intensity is greater than I + 3 and its area is greater than 1.5 arc sec2 at I + 1.5, where I is the mean value and the standard deviation of the intensity distribution on the image. Each detected NBP is then searched and confirmed in all the remaining 31 images at different wavelengths. For each NBP several parameters are measured (position, area, mean and maximum contrast, Dopplergram velocity, compactness, and so on) and some identification constraints are applied. The statistical analysis of the various parameter distributions, for NBPs present within an active region and its surroundings, shows that two types of NBPs can be identified according to the value of their mean contrast C min the H- 1.5 Å image (C m 0.1 type I, C m> 0.1 type II). The type I NBPs (all occurring on the boundaries of the supergranular network) appear to be much more frequent (180/26) than the type II ones. The size A of type I NBPs is less than 1.0 arc sec for H/H wings but of the order of 1.2 arc sec for Na-D2 and Mg-bl. The mean contrast C m is around the value of 10% along the Na-D2 and Mg-bl profiles and of 20% along the H/H wings. The C m - A scatter diagrams show, for the photospheric radiation (h < 100 km), a narrow range of variability for C min correspondence with a wide range for A. For radiation orginated at higher levels (h > 200 km), the C m- A scatter diagrams seem to indicate, even if with a large variance, that the highest C m's tend to correspond to the highest A values. The mean Doppler shift is close to zero for Na-D2 and Mg-bl lines but negative (downward motion) for H and H lines. The type II NBPs tends to be preferentially located in the neighbourhood of small, compact sunspots and their detectability is almost constant through all the 4 studied line profiles. No conclusions can be derived on the mean size, contrast and Doppler shift values because their distributions are too dispersed. The only positive information is that its C m- A scatter diagram, in H and H wings, indicates a wide range of variability for C m in correspondence with very narrow range of variability for A.  相似文献

With a simple map model, derived within the framework of the planar circular restricted three-body problem (SunuuJupiteruucomet), we study the dynamical evolution of near-parabolic comets under the perturbation of Jupiter. The commonly adopted random walk assumption about the energy evolution of the comets is examined. Numerical results show that for the comets on Jupiter-crossing orbits, due to the large energy changes with Jupiter per passage, the statistical evolution of the cometary energy follows a Lévy random walk, thus statistically the final energy parameter that a comet reaches is linked to the number of passages by a power law K f n f. The mechanism that generates the Lévy random walk is explained in this model.  相似文献

Three different asymptotic branches of the two-fluid equations are found with e m , p n , where, is the inverse distance from the Sun, with (m, n) = (2/7, 2/7), (2/7, 6/7), (4/3, 4/3); other special solutions are also found but they correspond to special choices of density and temperature at the corona. In all the (4/3, 4/3) solutions, the electron and proton temperatures tend to equality at large distances. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

It is shown that X-ray radiation of neutron stars with magnetic fieldsB=1011–1013 G near cyclotron resonances=s B (s=1,2,...) is deeply affected by such quantum effects as electron-positron vacuum polarization (significant at V=3×1028 n e –1 (B/B C 4)1, whereB C =4.4×1013G), the quantizing character of the magnetic field (significant atV=3 x 1028 n e –1 (B/B c)41 whereB c =4.4 x 1013G), the non-harmonic character of the Landau levels, and the quantum recoil of electrons. The latter two factors shift the resonances by the frequency –s 2 B (B/2B c )sin2, being the angle between the direction of radiation propagation and the magnetic field. IfVV 0 (for 1,V 0–1=(mc 2/2T)1/2), the normal mode (NM) polarizations, as well as the absorption coefficientk 1 of the extraordinary NM in the Doppler core of the first resonance (|–| B cos ), is only slightly affected by varyingb and/orV, whereas for the ordinary NM (at 1)k 2k 1 2[b + (3 + tan2–2V)2]k 1. For sufficiently largeb and/orV the quantum effects amplify resonant absorption of the ordinary NM at B , with spin-flip transitions playing a major role atb1+V 2. IfVV 0, the coefficientsk 1 andk 2 in the Doppler core of the resonance are of the same order and acquire some peculiar features (shifts, intersections, etc.), with the NM polarizations depending sharply on and being strongly non-orthogonal. AtVV 0,k 2=k 1(cos2 +B/2B C ) and the polarizations are almost linear. Near high resonances (s2), as a rule,k 1,2(1 + b) s–1 2s–3 i.e., absorption increases withb due to replacement of the thermal energy of the transverse motion of electron,T, by the magnetic energy B . The above effects should be taken into account for an interpretation of observational data on X-ray pulsars (e.g., Her X-1) and other X-ray sources associated with neutron stars.  相似文献

Colliding comets in the Solar System may be an important source of gamma ray bursts. The spherical gamma ray comet cloud required by the results of the Venera Satellites (Mazets and Golenetskii, 1987) and the BATSE detector on the Compton Satellite (Meeganet al., 1992a, b) is neither the Oort Cloud nor the Kuiper Belt. To satisfy observations ofN(>P max) vsP max for the maximum gamma ray fluxes,P max > 10–5 erg cm–2 s–1 (about 30 bursts yr–1), the comet density,n, should increase asn a 1 from about 40 to 100 AU wherea is the comet heliocentric distance. The turnover above 100 AU requiresn a –1/2 to 200 AU to fit the Venera results andn a 1/4 to 400 AU to fit the BATSE data. Then the masses of comets in the 3 regions are from: 40–100 AU, about 9 earth masses,m E; 100–200 AU about 25m E; and 100–400 AU, about 900m E. The flux of 10–5 erg cm–2 s–1 corresponds to a luminosity at 100 AU of 3 × 1026 erg s–1. Two colliding spherical comets at a distance of 100 AU, each with nucleus of radiusR of 5 km, density of 0.5 g cm–3 and Keplerian velocity 3 km s–1 have a combined kinetic energy of 3 × 1028 erg, a factor of about 100 greater than required by the burst maximum fluxes that last for one second. Betatron acceleration in the compressed magnetic fields between the colliding comets could accelerate electrons to energies sufficient to produce the observed high energy gamma rays. Many of the additional observed features of gamma ray bursts can be explained by the solar comet collision source.  相似文献

A seventh list of objects from the BIG (Byurakan-IRAS galaxies) sample is given: 95 galaxies identified with 63 point sources from the IRAS Point Source Catalog. The identifications were based on the Digital Sky Survey (DSS), the First Byurakan Survey, blue and red maps from the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey, and infrared fluxes at 12, 25, 60, and 100 m in the region of +65° 69° and 14h00m 18h05m with an area of 96 deg2. For the identified galaxies the optical coordinates, their departures from the IR coordinates, the stellar V magnitudes, morphological types, angular sizes, and position angles were determined. The objects have optical magnitudes in the range of 13 m .8-21 m .5 and angular sizes in the range of 4-38. Finder charts from the DSS are given for these objects.  相似文献

Data on the isotopic abundances and ratios of light rare gases (He and Ne) in 600 ordinary chondrites are analyzed. The ratio of cosmogenic isotopes (3He/21Ne) c in 20% of the ordinary chondrites has been found to lie well below the correlation line that represents the dependence of (3He/21Ne) c on (22Ne/21Ne) c . This effect shows up most clearly in 4He r -chondrites, particularly in meteorites with diffusion losses of radiogenic 21Ne c , and is most likely attributable to the predominant (compared to 3He c ) diffusion losses of cosmogenic 3Hecthrough the solar heating of meteorites in orbits with small perihelion distances. This effect is enhanced by periodic variations in orbital parameters (including the perihelion distance) of meteorites throughout their exposure histories. Thermoluminescence data for ordinary chondrites confirm this scenario. The (3He/21Ne) c ratio for 15% of the chondrites was significantly overestimated, which may stem from the fact that such meteorites were heavily shielded in preatmospheric bodies.  相似文献
