We report the results of unique observations of the solar eclipse of March 29, 2006 over a wide radio-wavelength range from 1 to 50 cm made with the large RATAN-600 stationary radio telescope during the maximum eclipse phase performed using the method of the source transit across the fixed beam pattern. The multifunctional opportunities of the radio telescope allowed observations to be performed simultaneously in a part of the Northern sector of RATAN-600 and in the Southern-sector plus periscope mode using all the available receiving equipment at the corresponding secondary mirrors. At the time of maximum eclipse phase a narrow 1—3-arcsec wide crescent-shaped band near the North Solar Pole remained visible out of the entire solar disk covered by the Moon. We achieved high flux sensitivity, which allowed us to discover a large polar radio source located above the North Solar Pole and obtain detailed data on its radiation and spatial structure. Moreover, we detected optically thin radiation of the solar corona at the brightness-temperature level of several K or several tens of K. We find this radiation to extend beyond the solar limb out to the heliocentric distances of one solar radius. These data are unique in that they are not contaminated by scattered radiation of the solar radio disk, which usually shows up in ordinary observations. We are the first to obtain a detailed spectrum of the radiation of a high-latitude prominence at many wavelengths with a 1% frequency resolution in the microwave range, which allowed us to estimate its magnetic field at a number of levels in the lower corona.  相似文献

Changes in solar radio-brightness temperature were derived at 2.8,19.3 and 22.2 GHz from the observations of radio flux during the total eclipse of 1980 February 16. High-resolution MEM spectra of the brightness temperature fluctuations at the three frequencies showed periodicities ranging from 3.5 min to 128 min. Between 3.5 min and 14.6 min there are several periodicities of comparable significance common to the three operating frequencies. If the corresponding variations in brightness temperature are assumed to result from spatial variations in the solar radio emission, the observed periodicities imply scale sizes in the range 76000 km to 320000 km.  相似文献

The observations of the solar radio emission on September 11, 2001, with the RATAN-600 radio telescope (southern sector) at four centimeter wavelengths (1.92, 2.24, 2.74, and 3.21 cm) revealed synchronous brightenings in solar radio sources. These were identified on the solar photosphere with active regions that were spaced up to ~106 km apart (AR 9608 and AR 9616). We discuss manifestations of the possible mechanisms of synchronous brightenings in solar sources in a narrow microwave spectral band. The significant linear correlation (ρc = 0.84–0.92) between the relative fluxes of AR 9610 and AR 9608 at 1.92 and 2.24 cm and the significant linear correlation (ρc = 0.65–0.84) between the relative fluxes of AR 9606 and AR 9608 at 3.21 cm in a two-hour interval of observations are indicative of the interconnection between these active regions not only during flares and bursts, but also in the periods of their absence. This confirms the existence of a large-scale temporal component in the dynamics of the radio flux variations for these active regions. We found a difference between the temporal variations of the radio emission from the halo and the solar radio sources under consideration. The times of increase in the total solar soft X-ray (0.5–4.0 Å, 1.0–8.0 Å; GOES 8, GOES 10) flux are shown to coincide with the times of increase in the fluxes from the solar radio sources at short centimeter wavelengths.  相似文献

Based on observations from the Siberian solar radio telescope, and invoking data from other observatories, we investigate preflare changes in the sunspot and floccular sources of radio emission and the development of an importance 2N flare in the chromosphere and corona in the active region on August 23, 1988.It has been ascertained that preflare changes became observable six hours prior to the flare onset and manifested themselves in intense flux fluctuations above the sunspot and in an enhancement of the source emission flux above the flocculus.It is shown that the flare onset is associated with a newly emerged magnetic flux in the form of a pore near the filament and with the appearance of radio sources above the filament. The flare was accompanied by type III radio bursts and a noise storm at meter wavelengths. Coronal mass ejection parameters are estimated from type III burst observations.  相似文献

IPS observations with the Big Scanning Array of Lebedev Physical Institute (BSA LPI) radio telescope at the frequency 111 MHz have been monitored since 2006. All the sources, about several hundred daily, with a scintillating flux greater than 0.2 Jy are recorded for 24 hours in the 16 beams of the radio telescope covering a sky strip of 8° declination width. We present some results of IPS observations for the recent period of low solar activity considering a statistical ensemble of scintillating radio sources. The dependences of the averaged over ensemble scintillation index on heliocentric distance are considerably weaker than the dependence expected for a spherically symmetric geometry. The difference is especially pronounced in the year 2008 during the very deep solar activity minimum period. These features are explained by the influence of the heliospheric current sheet that is seen as a strong concentration of turbulent solar wind plasma aligned with the solar equatorial plane. A local maximum of the scintillation index is found in the anti-solar direction. Future prospects of IPS observations using BSA LPI are briefly discussed.  相似文献

Based on the observations of solar eclipses performed on the RT-22 radio telescope at CrAO in the wavelength range 2.0–3.5 cm, we consider the fine spatial structure of the microwave emission from the quiet Sun. We have established that the positions of compact radio sources with a typical size of about 7″.0 and coronal bright points coincide. The mean radio flux exceeds the level of the quiet Sun by 0.28 sfu. The brightness temperatures increase with wavelength and lie within the range 0.3–2.7 MK. Evidence for a nonthermal nature of the emission from compact radio sources has been obtained.  相似文献

In the past, there have been reports of the observation of decrease in the flux of secondary cosmic γ-rays during a total solar eclipse. We have measured the flux of secondary cosmic γ-rays during the total solar eclipse that occurred at Novosibirsk in Russia, on 1 August 2008. Highly sensitive measurements were carried out by using a detector system with built-in redundancy. The system consisted of two independent, large volume NaI(Tl) scintillator detectors for sensitive and reliable measurements. The data display significant variability in the flux of secondary γ-rays in the energy range 50–4600 keV. Just prior to the total solar eclipse a change ∼9% in the flux was observed, followed by a small but steady decrease ∼4% during the eclipse. The temporal variation in the observed flux of γ-rays were found to be nearly identical for the two detectors. The energy dependence of the variation was further studied by binning the yield in three energy ranges, namely, 100–200, 200–400 and 400–4600 keV. The nearly identical time variation observed in the two independent measurements provides confidence that the measured variation is real and not an artifact of the instrumentation. Systematic observations during the future eclipses are required to study this fascinating phenomenon which is not yet understood.  相似文献

We assume that the physical conditions above an active solar region vary continuously from the centers of sunspots to the adjacent quiet region and try to take into account the influence of the magnetic field. Thus we calculate the three-dimensional distribution of the electron temperature and density based on the radio spectrum of active region No. 75 obtained from the solar eclipse observation of 16 February, 1980. If we assume a potential field, we calculated the magnetic field above the active region in terms of the solar photospheric magnetic field.Using the electron temperature, density, and the magnetic field as described above, and assuming the slowly varying radiation mechanism to consist of bremsstrahlung and gyro-resonance radiation, we obtained the flux density spectrum and the brightness temperature spectrum. The calculated results are essentially consistent with the observations.  相似文献

A dynamical, homogeneous model of the chromosphere-corona transition region and of the lower corona is presented, based on the hydrodynamical equations and on a semi-empirical relation deduced from radio observations. The model is shown to be in agreement with radio and UV observations and with the particle flux given by solar wind measurements. A comparison with the analogous static model shows that dynamical effects are very small. From the model it is possible to give an estimate of the energy dissipated at each level by the waves that propagate in the solar atmosphere. It is shown that this energy source cannot be neglected with comparison to the usual conductive, convective and radiative sources. The importance of the kinetic energy flux connected with the spicules is also discussed.  相似文献

We present the first radio observations of a sample of 13 optically and IR-bright Southern hemisphere classical Be stars made from the Australian Telescope Compact Array at 3.5 and 6.3 cm simultaneously. One star, δ Cen, was detected at 3.5 cm, and a second, μ Cen, was also thought to have been detected; further observations of this source are required to confirm this detection. No sources were detected at 6.3 cm, although δ Cen was previously detected at this wavelength by other observers at a higher flux than our detection limit. The radio observations show that the spectral energy distribution undergoes a turnover between the far-IR and radio wavelengths, as was seen in previous studies. Likewise we find no simple correlation between far-IR and radio flux. Lower limits to the outer disc radius were found to be of the order of a few hundred solar radii i.e. of the order of those found previously by Taylor et al.  相似文献

The brightness temperature distributions of the solar atmosphere in the polar region at the distances from one to two solar radii during the solar activity minimum are reported. Observations of the maximum phase of the solar eclipse of March 29, 2006 were carried out simultaneously on two sectors of the RATAN-600 radio telescope over a wide range of centimeter waves, 1–31 cm. This study is based on a comparison of models and observations carried out on the northeastern sector of the RATAN-600.  相似文献

During the total eclipse of 1980 February 16, eclipse slope curves at 2, 3.2, 8.2 and 21 cm were obtained as the Moon occulted an active region with a bipolar sunspot group. From the peaks in these curves and the heights of the effective emission layers, the cores of the radio sources at the four wavelengths are located. Connecting these sites gives a magnetic loop structure. Relations between the locations, sizes, fluxes of the radio sources and the intensities, extensions, sizes and shapes of the bipolar sunspot field are analysed. The result at 8.2 cm is similar to the loop structure observed with the VLA at 6 cm. The radio flux spectrum shows that the gyro-radiation dominates over the thermal bremsstrahlung in this active region.  相似文献

A model of the chromosphere and transition zone for quiet regions of the Sun is given.The height dependence of temperature and density are different for the borders of the supergranules and for their inner parts. The difference is caused by the enhanced mechanical energy flux at the places of strengthened magnetic field.The average dependence of density on height is given by eclipse data, the corresponding values for temperatures are obtained by a trial and error method using calculation of solar radio emission for different wavelengths and comparison with observations.The adopted model is consistent with observational data on the solar visual, radio and UV emission. This model also accounts for the brightness distribution on spectroheliograms taken in H wings, K232 Caii and in several UV spectral lines.  相似文献

The basic theory of solar flux attenuation by the Earth's atmosphere is reviewed and a model of the time-varying flux observed by a satellite during eclipse passage developed. The general model is applied to the specific problem of variations in photoelectron flux during penumbral passage and the effects of wavelength, solar activity, and atmospheric constituents on photoelectron emission investigated. Predictions of the photoelectron current expected from tungsten and aluminum surfaces are then successfully compared with actual observations from the ATS-5 and Injun 5 satellites confirming the validity of the model.  相似文献

Semi-quantitative reports of shortwave radio reception during the 12 November 1966 total solar eclipse have been used to determine the characteristics of a major source of D layer ionization. An effective electron depletion coefficient of 1.2 × 10–2 sec–1 was found empirically and used to reduce the data. Analysis of the radio absorption shows the source was located near heliographic coordinates, B = +7°, L = 340° and was probably less than 0.5 of arc in diameter. At the time of the eclipse, the source accounted for 40% of the radio absorption on a single, vertical pass through the D layer. Preoccultation behavior of the signal strength is interpreted by assuming a portion of the source X-ray flux was reflected at grazing incidence from the limb of moon. For point sources, such reflections have specific chromatic characteristics which were used to derive a crude source spectrum in the 3–140 Å range. X-ray absorption edges of N, O, Na, Be, and possible Mg, Ar, Ne, Ca, and K arising from the terrestrial atmosphere have been identified. A source temperature approximately twice that of the rest of the corona is indicated.  相似文献

A new sample of radio sources, with the designated name CENSORS (A Combined EIS–NVSS Survey Of Radio Sources), has been defined by combining the National Radio Astronomy Observatory Very Large Array Sky Survey (NVSS) at 1.4 GHz with the ESO Imaging Survey (EIS) Patch D, a 3° by 2° region of sky centred at RA     , Dec. −21°00'00' (J2000). New radio observations of 199 NVSS radio sources with NVSS flux densities   S 1.4 GHz > 7.8 mJy  are presented, and are compared with the EIS I -band imaging observations which reach a depth of   I ∼ 23  ; optical identifications are obtained for over two-thirds of the ∼150 confirmed radio sources within the EIS field. The radio sources have a median linear size of 6 arcsec, consistent with the trend for lower flux density radio sources to be less extended. Other radio source properties, such as the lobe flux density ratios, are consistent with those of brighter radio source samples. From the optical information, 30–40 per cent of the sources are expected to lie at redshifts   z ≳ 1.5  .
One of the key goals of this survey is to accurately determine the high-redshift evolution of the radio luminosity function. These radio sources are at the ideal flux density level to achieve this goal; at redshifts   z ∼ 2  they have luminosities which are around the break of the luminosity function and so provide a much more accurate census of the radio source population at those redshifts than the existing studies of extreme, high radio power sources. Other survey goals include investigating the dual-population unification schemes for radio sources, studying the radio luminosity dependence of the evolution of radio source environments, and understanding the radio power dependence of the K – z relation for radio galaxies.  相似文献
