Conditions prevalent in dense molecular clouds are shown to favour the polymerization of H2CO molecules and the deposition of formaldehyde co-polymer mantles, with typical radii 10–5 cm, on smaller refractory grains. If a significant fraction of such co-polymer coated grains are expelled with systematic gas flows into the general interstellar medium, these moderately refractory grains may be responsible for the bulk of interstellar extinction and polarization at optical wavelengths. Mie calculations for a mixture consisting of iron, graphite and POM particles are presented as an example where POM grains of radii 0.15 dominate the extinction at optical wavelengths, providing a satisfactory overall fit to a range of extinction data. A size distribution of POM needles with a mean radius 0.15 also provides good agreement with data on interstellar linear as well as circular polarization. Suitably end-capped and stabilized co-polymer-coated grains, with either silicate or graphite cores, may survive at temperatures 450 K under interstellar ambient conditions and be responsible for the 10 emission feature in many sources. Theoretically computed band profiles of the 10 -feature in POM coated grains, in general, provide better agreement with observations than most types of silicate grains considered so far. We also note that an unexplained dip at 10 in the 8–12 feature of the infrared source OH 231.8+4.2 may be a signature of POM grains; likewise, a persistent 3.3 emission feature in many different types of infrared source could be attributed to the CH stretching mode in formaldehyde co-polymer grains.  相似文献

We discuss in this paper the possibility of interpreting the 2200 Å band occurring in the interstellar extinction curves as being attributed to porous graphite. The results show that grains with radii smaller than 0.015 m and a porosity degree within the values 0.02f0.25 are able to fit satisfactorily the peak at 4.6 m–1 and the band shape between 4 and 5.2 m–1. Consideration of the expected density for such particles seems to confirm that interstellar grains may be porous but, at the same time, suggests that care must be taken when data concerning dust in the solar system are extrapolated to the interstellar space.  相似文献

Quiescent prominences It is found that Heii 4686 is emitted in the same cold region of 10000 K as hydrogen, metal and neutral helium emission lines. This conclusion is based on the finding that the observed width of 4686 is the same as the calculated width of 4686. The calculated width is derived from the observed widths of hydrogen and metallic lines. The large intensity of Heii 4686 in 10000 K can be explained by the ionization of Heii due to the UV radiation below 228 Å that comes from the corona and the transition region.Loop prominences The very broad width (30 to 50 km s–1) of 4686 for two post-flare loop prominences shows that the Heii line is emitted in hot regions different from regions of hydrogen and metal emission. From the widths of the Balmer lines and many metallic lines the kinetic temperature for one loop is found to be 16000 K in one part and 7600 K in another part. The electron densities are 1012.0 cm–3 and less than 1011.0 cm–3 respectively.Chromosphere The intensity of 4686 in the chromosphere can be interpreted in terms of a temperature of 10000 K with the ionization due to UV radiation. But, since observations of the width of 4686 are not available, a definitive conclusion for the chromosphere cannot be reached.  相似文献

A group of type III bursts observed with the 2.6–3.8 GHz spectrometer of National Astronomical Observatory of China on 15 April 1998 is analyzed. They have the characteristics of broad bandwidth (>100 MHz), very short durations (<100 ms), high polarization degree (100%), high frequency drift rates (>1 GHz s–1), and fast pulsations (with a period of about 100–200 ms). Their time profiles are also analysed. According to these characteristics, we suggest that these microwave type III bursts may be due to the fundamental plasma emission.  相似文献

We present the analysis of spectrograms obtained during quiescence and during an ordinary outburst of the SU UMa type dwarf nova WX Hyi (ESO 3.6m telescope, B&C spectrograph with Image Disector Scanner, 171 Åmm–1, range 4000–7000 Å, time resolution 6min.). The radial velocities of these spectra have been discussed by Schoembs and Vogt (1981) who also derived the orbital elements of WX Hyi. The phasesmax refer to these elements. All velocities discussed here are with respect to the white dwarf, not to the center of mass of the binary system.Inquiescent state we did not find significant radial velocity variations. The equivalent widths W of the He I emission lines revealed periodic variations with an amplitude of 30%, maximal values of W were observed atmax=0.0...0.2. In contrast, the equivalent widths of the Balmer lines were not variable.Duringoutburst we found periodic radial velocity variations of the emission peak of H, H and He I 5875 with an amplitude of100 km s–1,max0.5. Also the broad Balmer absorption lines revealed periodic radial velocity variations, with a similar amplitude (max=0.3...0.5). The equivalent width of the H central emission peak varies with an amplitude of30%,max0.85. No variations of the equivalent width of the Balmer absorption lines were found.The outburst observations suggest that the preceeding part of the disc is brighter than the following one (in orbital motion). This is probably due to heating of the preceeding part by collisions with circumbinary matter, which seems to have an enhanced density in outburst as compared to the quiescent state. The emission lines are formed in outer layers or in a halo around the disc. The equivalent width variations can be interpreted in terms of interactions between this halo and the optically thick part of the disc.A more detailed discussion of the data is being published elsewhere.Paper presented at the IAU Colloquium No. 93 on Cataclysmic Variables. We discuss the longitudinal component of the magnetic field, B , based on data from about 135 quiescent prominences observed at Climax during the period 1968–1969. The measurements are obtained with the magnetograph which records the Zeeman effect on hydrogen, helium and metal lines. Use of the following lines, H; Hei, D3, Hei, 4471 Å; Nai, Di and D2, leads to the same value for the observed magnetic field component in these prominences. For more than half of the prominences their mean field, B , satisfy the inequalities 3 G B 8 G, and the overall mean value for all the prominences is 7.3 G. As a rule, the magnetic field enters the prominence on one side and exits on the other, but in traversing the prominence material, the field tends to run along the long axis of the prominence.The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

In this letter, we bring attention to prominences which show different morphology in H and Heii 304 Å, as observed simultaneously by BBSO and EIT on board SOHO. Those two lines have been thought to represent similar chromospheric structures although they are formed at significantly different temperatures. We give two examples representing two kinds of anomaly: (1) prominences showing strong H emissions in the lower part and strong Heii emissions in the upper part, and (2) erupting prominences showing extensive Heii emission, but nothing in H. Our results indicate that a part or the whole of a prominence may be too hot to emit H radiation, possibly due to heating or thermal instability. Please note that these are not just two isolated cases, many other prominences show the similar differences in H and Heii 304 Å.  相似文献

The intensities of 52 EUV emission lines from each of 9 hedgerow prominences observed at the limb with the Harvard experiment on ATM-Skylab have been compared with intensities from the interior of network cells at the center of the disk, in order to compare the prominence-corona (P-C) interface with the chromosphere-corona (C-C) transition region. The intensity ratio I cell/I prominence for each line varies systematically (in all of the prominences observed), with the temperature of formation of the line as T –0.6. The density sensitive C iii (formed at T 9 × 104 K) line ratio I 1175/I 977 implies an average density 1.3 × 109 electrons cm–3 in the P-C interface and 4 times this value in the C-C transition of the cells. The total optical thickness at the head of the Lyman continuum is 10 in most of the prominences studied; in two of the prominences, however, we cannot reject the possibility that o is large. Methods of analysis of these EUV data are developed assuming both a resolved and an unresolved internal prominence structure. This paper describes the results of comparing SERTS-3 images obtained in the transition region line of Heii 304 with chromospheric Hei 10830 absorption, with strong coronal lines of Mgix 368 , Fexv 284 and 417 , and Fexvi 335 and 31 , with H, with Caii 8542 , and with magnetograms in Fei 8688H. All of the images are illustrated, and the image reconstruction techniques used are described and evaluated. The high correlation of the Heii 304 and Hei 10830 images, originally found by Harvey and Sheeley (1977), is confirmed and is put on a quantitative basis. We find that the supergranulation network has greater contrast, and that filaments appear darker, in 10830 than in 304 . In active regions, the 304 line follows more closely the behavior of H and Caii 8542 than the 10830 line.  相似文献

The optical depth at the head of the Lyman continuum, H, is determined at a number of positions in three hedgerow prominences using spectroheliograms (5 × 5 resolution) of C III 977, LC 896, and O IV 554 observed with the Harvard experiment on Skylab. At heights greater than 10 above the limb the maximum value of H is 30 to 50, which occurs at the central part of the prominences. For one of the prominences the determination of H is found to be consistent with data from spectroheliograms of Mg X 625. The degree of ionization of hydrogen is estimated from the intensity of LC 896 at H 1. In the central part of a model prominence N P/N HI1.9 for a reasonable range of the electron densities, where N P and N HI are the proton density and the neutral hydrogen density, respectively.  相似文献

The following three mechanisms of generation of gamma-ray bursts at advanced phases of stellar evolution are considered; (1) gamma-ray bursts as a result of absorption of neutrino propagating through the envelope of a collapsing star, (2) gamma-ray burst due to thermal radiation of external layers of a compact star (R=0.01–0.1R ) heated by powerful shock wave, and (3) gamma-ray burst as a consequence of possible ejection of matter from neutron star at some active phases of its evolution. In the case (1) the gamma-ray flux at the top of the Earth's atmosphere is about 10–4 (0.1 MeV photons) cm–2, if a collapsing star is at Galactic distance (10 kpc). It is considerably less than observed one. The observations of such gamma-bursts however would be an important supplement to the direct detection of neutrino radiation from collapsing stars. In the case (2) external layers of a star are heated up to 108 K. As a result we have a short pulse of thermal radiation with total energy of the order of 1042–43 erg. The main fraction of the radiation is in the X-ray ( 25 keV), about 10% of total energy being radiated in gamma-ray ( 0.1 MeV). The energy of such a burst is sufficient for explaining observed gamma-bursts provided the supernova outburst probably takes place in our Galaxy and as a result we have some trouble with explanation of observed frequency and spectra of gammabursts. In the case (3) ejection from neutron star of chemically nonequilibrium matter results in the intensive gamma-radiation in consequence of superheavy nuclei fission followed by beta-decays and radiative captures of free neutrons. The ejection of matter from neutron stars may be connected with observed jumps of pulsar's periods. The total ejected mass ( 1021 g) can be evaluated from increase of kinetic energy ( 2×1041 erg.) of Crab nebula filaments. The resulting theoretical energy of gammabursts is of the order of 1038–39 erg. It is in accordance with observations provided the mean distance of gamma-ray sources is about 0.25 kpc. Contrary to the supernova-outburst mechanism in this case we have probably no troubles with frequency and spectra of gamma-bursts. Among the three mechanisms considered above ejection of matter from neutron stars seems to be a more suitable one for explanation of observations.

Numerical simulations of the evolution of planets or massive satellites captured in the 2/1 and 3/1 resonances, under the action of an anti-dissipative tidal force. The evolution of resonant trapped bodies show a richness of solutions: librations around stationary symmetric solutions with aligned periapses ( = 0) or anti-aligned periapses ( = ), librations around stationary asymmetric solutions in which the periapses configuration is fixed, but with taking values in a wide range of angles. Many of these solutions exist for large values of the eccentricities and, during the semimajor axes drift, the solutions show turnabouts from one configuration to another. The presented results are valid for other non-conservative anti-dissipative forces leading to adiabatic convergent migration and capture into one of these resonances.  相似文献

A detailed investigation of the evolution of low-mass binaries is performed for the case when the secondary fills its Roche lobe at the stage of core hydrogen exhaustion. The obtained results are compared with observational data for ultra-short periodic X-ray systems MXB 1820-30 and MXB 1916-05. In the frame of the proposed evolutionary scenario it is possible to obtain for MXB 1820-30 its periodP=11.4 min twice (see Figure 2). In the first case the parameters of the system are:M 2 0.13–0.15M ,X0.05–0.13, |P/P| (3.6–6.2) } 10–7 yr–1, M2 (4.1–9.6) } 10–9 M yr–1, for the second:M 2 0.08–0.09M ,X= 0, |P/P| (1.3–1.5) } 10–7 yr–1, M2 (1.4–1.8) } 10–8 M yr–1. It is suggested that MXB 1916-05 is the progenitor of the system MXB 1820-30 (M 2 = 0.1M,X 0.221,M 2 1.8 × 10–10 M yr–1).  相似文献

While Euclidean models with uniform matter density have a number of radio sources of flux density greater thanF at frequencyv that varies asN(>F, v)1 F –3/2, hierarchical models with = 0 r –2 haveN(>F,)F –1/2 (Section 1). Since the observed dependency isN(>F,)F –1.8, severe density and/or luminosity evolution must be present in a workable hierarchical cosmology (Section 2). The same argument applies (Section 3) to the number of sources of apparent luminosity greater thanl,N(>l) and (Section 4) to the number of sources within redshift distancez from the local origin. To give agreement with empirical data demandsq o=+1 and large first and second derivatives with respect to time of the number source density (Section 5). The adoption ofq o=+1 allows one to show (Section 6) that a Lemaitre-type hierarchical Universe with a long coasting or waiting time can give agreement with observations of the numbers of QSO's etc. if the age of the Universe is more than 1013 yr. The dependence of the effective Hubble parameter onk(t), (t) andR (Section 7) leads one to suggest that ak=0, =0 hierarchy with 0 might be the simplest acceptable form of model Universe. Section 8 (Conclusion) points out that further data on source count anisotropies should allow the component levels of the hierarchy to be delineated.  相似文献

The profiles of six photospheric absorption spectral lines (Fei 5250 Å, Fei 5324 Å, Fei 5576 Å, Cai 5590 Å, Cai 6103 Å and Fei 6165 Å), measured in the kernel of a 2N solar flare and in a quiet-Sun area, were compared. The observations were carried out with an echelle spectrograph of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. It was shown that, compared to the quiet-Sun profiles, the flare profiles are shallower in the line core and are less steep in the wings. Therefore, measurements of the longitudinal magnetic field made with a magnetograph system which uses the Cai 6103 Å  spectral line, can be underestimated by 18–25% in areas of bright H ribbons of a moderate solar flare. Modeling of the solar photosphere performed by using a synthesis method showed that, in a solar flare, the enhanced core emission seems to be related to heating of the photosphere by the flare, whereas the decrease of the slope of the wings was presumably caused by the inhomogeneity of the photospheric magnetic field.  相似文献

In 1937, the Celestial Mechanics and Cosmogony section of the Sternberg State Astronomical Institute undertook the task of evaluating the Gylden-Moulton hypothesis on the origin of the Gegenshein from the standpoint of celestial mechanics. That investigation, which the authors themselves considered preliminary, contains nonetheless a series of important results. For example, G. N. Duboshin showed that in the planar, circular, restricted three-body problem, periodic motion of finite amplitude in the neighborhood of a collinear libration point is unstable according to Lyapunov's criterion both in the proper and in the orbital sense. The latter result is incompatible with the above named hypothesis, and thus appears as one of the serious objections among the many known negative conclusions relative to the existence of the Gylden-Moulton cluster.Unfortunately, most of the specific problems which arose in the above named research have not been considered since. One of these, the problem of the stability of three-dimensional periodic orbits in the neighborhood of a collinear libration point is solved in the present paper, within the limits of the three-dimensional, circular, restricted, three-body problem. Major attention is given to the investigation of stability in the orbital sense, since in the proper sense all orbits are unstable according to Lyapunov theory. It is shown that in order to resolve the question of stability, it is sufficient to consider the equations in their variational form. Analysis of the roots of the corresponding characteristic equations determines the orbital stability of planar and three-dimensional solutions, which later can be confirmed by calculation of the characteristic exponents appearing in the periodic solutions of the N. A. Artemiev method. Finally, the possibility of conditional stability in the linear approximation is proved.
