We present multi-colour CCD observations of the low-temperature contact binaries, V453 Mon and V523 Cas. Their light curves are modelled to determine a new set of stellar and orbital parameters. Analysis of mid-eclipse times yields a new linear ephemeris for both systems. A period decrease (dP/dt=2.3×10−7 days/yr) in V453 Mon is discovered. V523 Cas, however, is detected to show a period increase (dP/dt=9.8×10−8 days/yr) because of the mass transfer of a rate of 1.1×10−7 M yr−1, from a less massive donor. Using these findings we can determine the physical parameters of the components of V523 Cas to be M 1=0.76 (3)M , M 2=0.39 (2)M , R 1=0.74 (2)R , R 2=0.55 (2)R , L 1=0.19 (3)L , L 2=0.14 (3)L , and the distance of system as 46(9) pc.  相似文献

In this study complete BV light curves of the W Ursae Majoris binary V1073 Cygni obtained in 2005 are presented. We have used the spectroscopic data of V1073 Cyg obtained by Ahn et al. (1992) for analysis. The analysis of radial velocity and light curves was made with Wilson} program (1998) and the geometric and physical elements} of the system were derived. By searching the simultaneous} solutions of the system, we have determined the masses and radii of the components: 1.64M, 2.275R for the primary component and 0.55M, 1.397R for the secondary component respectively. The effective temperature of 6494 ± 53 K for the secondary component was also estimated.  相似文献

New BV light curves of the A-type W UMa star AQ Psc (P = 0.476d) have been observed and are described. A few times of minimum light are obtained and the ephemeris is improved. The light curves are analyzed for the binary parameters with a light curve synthesis method. Combining the results with Lu and Rucinski’s spectroscopic mass ratio we determined the masses and radii of the components: M 1 = 1.69M , M 2 = 0.38M , R 1 = 1.77R , and R 2 = 0.89R .  相似文献

Two CCD epochs of light minimum and a complete R light curve of SS Ari are presented. The light curve obtained in 2007 was analyzed with the 2003 version of the W-D code. It is shown that SS Ari is a shallow contact binary system with a mass ratio q=3.25 and a degree of contact factor f=9.4%(±0.8%). A period investigation based on all available data shows that there may exist two distinct solutions about the assumed third body. One, assuming eccentric orbit of the third body and constant orbital period of the eclipsing pair, results in a massive third body with M 3=1.73M and P 3=87.0 yr. On the contrary, assuming continuous period changes of the eclipsing pair the orbital period of tertiary is 37.75 yr and its mass is about 0.278M . Both of the cases suggest the presence of an unseen third component in the system.  相似文献

We apply the technique of astrometric mass determination to measure the masses of 21 main-belt asteroids; the masses of 9 Metis (1.03 ± 0.24 × 10-11 M), 17 Thetis (6.17 ± 0.64 × 10-13 M), 19 Fortuna (5.41 ± 0.76 × 10-12 M), and 189 Phthia (1.87 ± 0.64 × 10-14 M) appear to be new. The resulting bulk porosities of 11 Parthenope (12±4%) and 16 Psyche (46±16%) are smaller than previously-reported values. Empirical expressions modeling bulk density as a function of mean radius are presented for the C and S taxonomic classes. To accurately model the forces on these asteroids during the mass determination process, we created an integrated ephemeris of the 300 large asteroids used in preparing the DE-405 planetary ephemeris; this new BC-405 integrated asteroid ephemeris also appears useful in other high-accuracy applications.  相似文献

Eclipsing binaries with M-type components are still rare objects. Strong observational biases have made that today only a few eclipsing binaries with component masses below 0.6 M and well-determined fundamental properties are known. However, even in these small numbers the detailed comparison of the observed masses and radii with theoretical predictions has revealed large disagreements. Current models seem to predict radii of stars in the 0.4--0.8 M range to be some 5--15% smaller than observed. Given the high accuracy of the empirical measurements (a few percent in both mass and radius), these differences are highly significant. I review all the observational evidence on the properties of M-type stars and discuss a possible scenario based on stellar activity to explain the observed discrepancies.  相似文献

Complete UBV light curves of the W Ursae Majoris binary V839 Ophobtained in the year 2000 are presented. The available spectroscopic data of V839 Oph is new and we used the first radial velocity data of this system obtained by Rucinski and Lu (1999)for analysis. The radial velocity and light curves analysis was made with the latest version of Wilson programme (1998) and the geometric and physical elements of the system are derived. By searching the simultaneous solutions of the system we have determined the masses and radii of the components: 1.61M and 1.49402R for the primary component; 0.50M and 0.90147R for the secondary component. We estimate deffective temperatures of 6650±18 (K) for the primary and6554±15 (K) for the secondary component. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Based on high precision measurements of the distances to nearby galaxies with the Hubble telescope, we have determined the radii of the zero velocity spheres for the local group, R0 = 0.96±0.03Mpc, and for the group of galaxies around M 81/M 82, 0.89±0.05Mpc. These yield estimates of MT = (1.29±0.14)· 1012 M and (1.03±0.17)· 1012 M, respectively, for the total masses of these groups. The R0 method allows us to determine the mass ratios for the two brightest members in both groups, as well. By varying the position of the center of mass between the two principal members of a group to obtain minimal scatter in the galaxies on a Hubble diagram, we find mass ratios of 0.8:1.0 for our galaxy and Andromeda and 0.54:1.00 for the M82 and M81 galaxies, in good agreement with the observed ratios of the luminosities of these galaxies. __________ Translated from Astrofizika, Vol. 49, No. 1, pp. 5–22 (February 2006).  相似文献

New radial velocity measurements of the Algol-type eclipsing binary AI Dra, based on Reticon observations, are presented. The velocity measures themselves are based on fitting theoretical profiles, generated by a physical model of the binary, to the observed cross-correlation function (ccf). Such profiles match this function very well, much better in fact that Gaussian profiles which are generally used. Measuring the ccf's with Gaussian profiles yields following results: mp sin3 i=2.55± 0.05m, ms sin3 i = 1.14 ± 0.03m, (ap + as) sin i=7.34 ±0.05R, and mp/ms =2.23± 0.05. Where as measuring the ccf's with theoretical profiles yields a mass ratio of 2.33 and following results: mp sin3 i=2.84± 0.05m, ms sin3 i=1.22 ± 0.03m, (ap +as) sin i=7.56± 0.05R. The system comprising a semi-detached configuration. From the solution of a previously published light curved and combining it's results with the spectroscopic orbit, one can lead to the following physical parameters: mp =2.99m, ms =1.28m, > Tp < =9600 K, > Ts < =5400 K, > Rp < =2.35R, > Rs < =2.12R. The system comprising an AO primary and a secondary of G2 spectral type. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A new orbital period analysis for U Geminorum is made by means of the standard O–C technique based on 187 times of light minima including the three newest CCD data from our observation. Although there are large scatter near 70,000 cycles in its O–C diagram, there is strong evidence (>99.9% confidence level) to show the secular increase of orbital period with a rate  s−1. Using the physical parameters recently derived by Echevarría et al. (Astron. J. 134:262, 2007), the range of mass transfer rate for U Geminorum is estimated as from −3.5(5)×10−9 M  yr−1 to −1.30(6)×10−8 M  yr−1. Moreover, the data before 60,000 cycles shows the obvious quasi-period variations. The least square estimation of a ∼17.4 yr quasi-periodic variation superimposed on secular orbital period increase is derived. Considering the possibility that solar-type magnetic activity cycles in the secondary star of U Geminorum may produce the quasi-period variations of the orbital period, Applegate’s mechanism is discussed and the results indicate such mechanism has difficulty explaining the quasi-period variation for U Geminorum. Hence, we attempted to apply the light-travel time effect to interpret the quasi-period variation and found the perturbation of ∼17.4 yr quasi-period may result from a brown dwarf. If the orbital inclination is assumed as i∼15°, corresponding to the upper limit of mass of a brown dwarf, then its orbital radii is ∼7.7 AU.  相似文献

The eclipsing binary NN Vir is a short period system showing an EW-type light curve. Photometric observations of NN Vir were done by Gomez–Ferrellad and Garcia–Melendo (1997) at Esteve Duran Observatory. The first spectroscopic observations of this system were obtained by Rucinski and Lu (1999). The radial velocity and light curves analysis was made with the latest version of the Wilson program (1998), and the geometric and physical elements of the system are derived. From the simultaneous solutions of the system, we determined the masses and radii of the components: 1.89 M and 1.65 R for the primary component; 0.93 M and 1.23 R for the secondary component. We estimated effective temperatures of 7030 K for the primary and 6977 K for the secondary component.  相似文献

New BV light curves and times of minimum light for the short period W UMa system LO And were analyzed to derive the preliminary physical parameters of the system. The light curves were obtained at Ankara University Observatory during 5 nights in 2003. A new ephemeris is determined for the times of primary minimum. The analysis of the light curves is made using the Wilson‐Devinney 2003 code. The present solution reveals that LO And has a photometric mass ratio q = 0.371 and is an A‐type contact binary. The period of the system is still increasing, which can be attributed to light‐time effect and mass transfer between the components. With the assumption of coplanar orbit of the third body the revealed mass is M3 = 0.21M. If the period change dP/dt = 0.0212 sec/yr is caused only by the mass transfer between components (from the lighter component to the heavier) the calculated mass transfer rate is dm/dt = 1.682×10−7M/yr. The absolute radii and masses estimated for the components, based on our photometric solution and the absolute parameters of the systems which have nearly same period are R1 = 1.30R, R2 = 0.85R, M1 = 1.31M, M2 = 0.49M respectively for the primary and secondary components. Based on two high-dispersion spectra of the close binary BW Boo, we have detected lines of the secondary component whose contribution to the combined spectrum does not exceed 2%. We have determined the rotation velocities of the components and spectroscopic orbital elements. Numerous lines of neutral and ionized iron have been used to determine the effective temperature and surface gravity for the primary component. The photometric light curves for this binary have been solved for the first time. Its primary component is an A2Vm star with a mass of 2 ± 0.1M and a radius of 1.9 ± 0.4R . Its rotation velocity is 2 km s−1, which is a factor of 18 lower than the pseudo-synchronous velocity for this component. The G6 secondary component, a T Tau star, has a rotation velocity of 17 km s−1, amass of 1.1M , and a radius of 1 R . The age of the binary has been estimated to be 107 yr.  相似文献

Detached eclipsing binaries constitute potential accurate distance tracers. They are also useful as the test bench of stellar evolution. In BD–00° 3357 eclipses are partial and its orbital period is 1.d4. Our combined spectroscopic and photometric solution yields secure parameters of this system. The model of the star was obtained using the Wilson‐Devinney method. As result we obtained a semi major axis of 7.65 R and a mass ratio of 0.78. The derived masses and radii are M 1 = 1.73 M,M 2 = 1.34 MR 1 = 1.78 R, R 2 = 1.32 R, respectively. These values correspond to the slightly evolved F0 and F6.5 components, both slightly less than 1Gyr old. The distance of the star was estimated to be 310 ± 60 pc, and the corresponding photometric parallax is 3.24 ± 0.74 mas. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We have constructed the bolometric light curve of SN 1993J based on UBVRI(JHK) photometric data obtained from various sources and assumingA V = 0 and a distance modulus of 27.6. Effective temperatures and photosphere radius at various times have been obtained from detailed blackbody fits. The bolometric light curve shows two maxima. The short rise time to the second maximum, and the luminosities at the minimum and the second maximum are used to constrain the properties of the progenitor star. The total mass of the hydrogen envelope MH, in the star is found to be ≲ 0.2 M at the time of explosion, and the explosion ejected about 0.05 M of Ni56. Thin hydrogen envelope combined with a sufficient presupernova luminosity suggest that the exploding star was in a binary with a probable period range of 5yr ≤P orb 11yr.  相似文献

In this paper I deal with the WD0137-349 binary system consisting of a white dwarf (WD) and a brown dwarf (BD) in a close circular orbit of about 116 min. I, first, constrain the admissible range of values for the inclination i by noting that, from looking for deviations from the third Kepler law, the quadrupole mass moment Q would assume unlikely large values, incompatible with zero at more than 1-sigma level for i≲35 deg and i≳43 deg. Then, by conservatively assuming that the most likely values for i are those that prevent such an anomalous behavior of Q, i.e. those for which the third Kepler law is an adequate modeling of the orbital period, I obtain i=39±2 deg. Such a result is incompatible with the value i=35 deg quoted in literature by more than 2 sigma. Conversely, it is shown that the white dwarf’s mass range obtained from spectroscopic measurements is compatible with my experimental range, but not for i=35 deg. As a consequence, my estimate of i yields an orbital separation of a=(0.59±0.05)R and an equilibrium temperature of BD of T eq=(2087±154) K which differ by 10% and 4%, respectively, from the corresponding values for i=35 deg.  相似文献

We present the results of our infrared observations of WR 140 (=V1687 Cyg) in 2001–2010. Analysis of the observations has shown that the J brightness at maximum increased near the periastron by about 0 m .3; the M brightness increased by ∼2 m in less than 50 days. The minimum J brightness and the minimum L and M brightnesses were observed 550–600 and 1300–1400 days after the maximum, respectively. The JHKLM brightness minimum was observed in the range of orbital phases 0.7–0.9. The parameters of the primary O5 component of the binary have been estimated to be the following: R(O5) ≈ 24.7R , L(O5) ≈ 8 × 105 L , and M bol(O5) ≈ −10 m . At the infrared brightness minimum, T g ∼ 820–880 K, R g ≈ 2.6 × 105 R , the optical depth of the shell at 3.5 μm is ∼5.3 × 10−6, and its mass is ≈1.4 × 10−8 M . At the maximum, the corresponding parameters are ∼1300 K, 8.6 × 104 R , ∼2 × 10−4, and ∼6 × 10−8 M ; the mean rate of dust inflow (condensation) into the dust structure is ∼3.3 × 10−8 M yr−1. The mean escape velocity of the shell from the heating source is ∼103 km s−1 and the mean dispersal rate of the shell is ∼1.1 × 10−8 M yr−1.  相似文献

The ionizing star BD+60°2522 is known as the central star of Bubble Nebulae NGC 7635—wind-blown bubble created by the interaction of the stellar wind of BD+60°2522 (O6.5 IIIef, V=8.7 mag, mass loss rate 10−5.76 M /year) with the ambient interstellar medium. From the evolutionary calculations for the star with mass loss and overshooting, we find that the initial mass of the star is 60M , its present age is 2.5×106 years, and the present mass is 45M .  相似文献

An experiment was conducted in conjunction with the total solar eclipse on 29 March 2006 in Libya to measure both the electron temperature and its flow speed simultaneously at multiple locations in the low solar corona by measuring the visible K-coronal spectrum. Coronal model spectra incorporating the effects of electron temperature and its flow speed were matched with the measured K-coronal spectra to interpret the observations. Results show electron temperatures of (1.10±0.05) MK, (0.70±0.08) MK, and (0.98±0.12) MK, at 1.1 R from Sun center in the solar north, east and west, respectively, and (0.93±0.12) MK, at 1.2 R from Sun center in the solar west. The corresponding outflow speeds obtained from the spectral fit are (103±92) km s−1, (0+10) km s−1, (0+10) km s−1, and (0+10) km s−1. Since the observations were taken only at 1.1 R and 1.2 R from Sun center, these speeds, consistent with zero outflow, are in agreement with expectations and provide additional confirmation that the spectral fitting method is working. The electron temperature at 1.1 R from Sun center is larger at the north (polar region) than the east and west (equatorial region).  相似文献

Model atmosphere analysis, based on Kurucz models has been applied to study the F6V star π3 Ori (=BS1543=HD30652). The following values of the effective temperature, surface gravity and microturbulence velocity were obtained: = 6270±200 K, log g = 3.80.2, ξt =3.5±0.5 km/s. The abundances of 10 elements were determined. The resulting element abundances for the π3 Ori were found to be about three times lower with respect to the Sun. From evolutionary calculations we derived a mass, radius and luminosity for π3 Ori of M =1.3 M, R =2.38 R, L =7.9 L. Hence this star should be classified F6IV instead of F6 V.
