Observations of the lunar luminescence are reported for a dozen of specific Moon features using the line-depth method with a high resolution spectroscopic technique. The data indicate a variation of the Moon proper emission as a function of the phase angle which is interpreted as a proof of the thermoluminescent origin of this emission.  相似文献

The existence of fossil lunar magnetism has caused speculation that the Moon had, at one time, an internally produced dynamo magnetic field. Quantitative analysis of this idea, constrained by the largest iron lunar core compatible with observations, implies that the Moon would have had to rotate faster than its breakup angular velocity in order to support a dynamo magnetic field.A paper presented at the Lunar Science Institute Conference on Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration of the Moon and Planets, January 10–12, 1973.  相似文献

A theory of the directional characteristics of the lunar infrared radiation measured by Saari and Shorthill has been derived. This theory is in excellent agreement with experiment at all angles of observation and at all phase angles. The radiation law used to describe the angular dependence of the infrared radiation emitted by a flat element of the lunar surface is 0.85 cos + 0.22 cos2, where is the angle between the surface normal and the direction of observation. This radiation law is subsequently modified by taking into account lunar surface roughness. We assume a surface covered in part with spherical craters of various depth to diameter ratios as a model for the lunar soil. Re-radiation within the craters has been accounted for. Extensive use is made of group theoretical and invariant tensor methods which enable us to show that most of the details of the radiation pattern do not depend on the detailed nature of the surface features assumed, but only on the average surface slope. A best fit to the Saari-Shorthill data has been obtained by assuming 50% of the lunar surface to be covered with craters with a depth to diameter ratio of 1:3, while the remainder of the surface is essentially flat. Based on a large body of observational data on radio emission from the Moon, we study the dependence of lunar radio temperature variations on illumination conditions. The data were obtained with the RATAN-600 radio telescope with a high sensitivity and resolution, which has not yet been used to construct radio images of the Moon. The harmonic parameters (amplitudes and phase angles) were determined both for the average Moon and for regions with temperature anomalies revealed by the RATAN-600 observations. These parameters allow the physical properties of the lunar soil to be investigated. The distribution of the loss-angle tangent (tan ), one of the characteristics of the lunar material, over the Moon was determined. The loss-angle tangent is related to the content of ilmenite, a rock containing oxygen, iron, and titanium, in the lunar soil. Studies of the ilmenite distribution on the Moon are particularly important in view of the prospects for building a habitable lunar base that needs oxygen. It is relatively easy and cheap to extract oxygen, iron, and titanium from ilmenite.  相似文献

Nine low and one high resolution IUE (LWR) spectrograms for the short period subgroup RS CVn-like stars have been studied, particularly in connection with the MgII 2800 Å feature. Clear emission contributions can be easily seen for some of these stars, while all nine of them appear to have the feature filled by emission to some extent.If surface flux in emission is considered as a measure of activity (and not just equivalent width) the short period subgroup is as active as the main group. The activity is not as obvious because of the generally higher photospheric temperatures.Correlations of such activity with angular velocity and the scale of irregular photometric distortions (starspots) are present, though the sample size is low.  相似文献

The acceleration of the mean lunar longitude has a small effect on the periods of most terms in a Fourier expansion of the longitude. There are several planetary perturbation terms that have small amplitudes, but whose periods are close to the resonant period of the lunar libration in longitude. Some of these terms are moving toward resonance, some are moving away from resonance, and the periods of those terms that do not include the Delaunay variables in their arguments are not moving. Because of its acceleration of longitude, the Moon is receding from the Earth, so the magnitude of the restoring torque that the Earth exerts on the rotating Moon is gradually attenuating; thus resonance itself is moving, but at a much slower rate than the periods of the accelerating planetary perturbations. There are five planetary perturbation terms from the ELP-2000 Ephemeris (with amplitudes of 0.00001 or greater) that have passed through resonance in the past two million years. One of them is of special interest because it appears to be the excitation source of a supposed free libration in longitude that has been detected by the lunar laser ranging experiment. The amplitude of the term is only 0.00021 but it could be the source of the 1 amplitude free libration term if the viscoelastic properties of the Moon are similar to those of the Earth.  相似文献

The equilibrium point O of an autonomous Hamiltonian system of two degrees of freedom is considered for small-oscillation frequencies related as 2=21+. If under the precise resonance (=0) the equilibrium is unstable, the inner diameter () of the domain of stability containing the point O is estimated. Density models for the Moon, including the effects of temperature and pressure, can satisfy the mass and moment of inertia of the Moon and the presence of a low density crust indicated by the seismic refraction results only if the lunar mantle is chemically or mineralogically inhomogeneous. IfC/MR 2 exceeds 0.400, the inferred density of the upper mantle must be greater than that of the lower mantle at similar conditions by at least 0.1 g cm–3 for any of the temperature profiles proposed for the lunar interior. The average mantle density lies between 3.4 and 3.5 g cm–3, though the density of the upper mantle may be greater. The suggested density inversion is gravitationally unstable, but the implied deviatoric stresses in the mantle need be no larger than those associated with lunar gravity anomalies. UsingC/MR 3=0.400 and the recent seismic evidence suggesting a thin, high density zone beneath the crust and a partially molten core, successful density models can be found for a range of temperature profiles. Temperature distributions as cool as several inferred from the lunar electrical conductivity profile would be excluded. The density and probable seismic velocity for the bulk of the mantle are consistent with a pyroxenite composition and a 100 MgO/(MgO+FeO) molecular ratio of less than 80.Communication presented at the Lunar Science Institute Conference on Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration of the Moon and Planets, January 10–12, 1973.  相似文献

Evaluation of selenographic data obtained with use of different observational means require the formulation of rigorous algorithms connecting the systems of coordinates, which the various methods have been referred to. The lunar principal axes of inertia are suggested as most appropriate for reference in lunar mapping and selenographic coordinate catalogues. A new method for determining the early history of the Earth-Moon system is described. Called the study of lunar paleotides, it describes a method for explaining features of the remnant lunar gravity field, and the generation of the lunar mascons. A method for the determination of Earth-Moon distances compared with the radiometric ages of the maria is developed. It is shown that the Moon underwent strong anomalous gravitational tidal forces, for a durationt<106yr, prior to the formation of the mascon surfaces. As these tidal forces had not been present at the time of the formation of the Moon, this shows that the Moon could not have been formed in orbit about the Earth.There are tides in the affairs of men which, taken at the flood, lead on to fortune... Two dimensional source brightness distributions at 26.4 MHz for solar bursts of spectral type II, III, IV, and V are derived from observations with a multiple-baseline, time-sharing interferometer system. It was designed explicitly to study the large angle (40 halo) component of low frequency solar bursts first reported by Weiss and Sheridan (1962). Thirty-two bursts occurring in the interval of June–August, 1975, were fit with a circular gaussian core and an elliptical gaussian halo component. Half-power halo diameters (E-W×N-S) averaged 30×28 for type III bursts and 42×27, 28×37, 30×25 for type V, II and IV bursts respectively. Typical core sizes fell in the range of 10±4 giving 31 halo to core size ratio. All burst types were found to have some large angle structure: the specific intensity was 10% compared to the core but the total power in each component was comparable. Two processes for producing the core-halo structure of type III bursts are compared: scattering and refraction of a point source and refraction from many sources over an extended region. It is concluded that the core can be explained by either model but the halo is more consistent with emission from an extended source region of 40° in longitude.  相似文献

A study has been performed in an effort to detect a lunar signature in geomagnetic data. Ap-indices available for the period 1932–1972 have been used for this purpose. The data have been divided into some 500 lunar months which were superimposed in synchronism with the phase of the Moon. At or shortly after full Moon a peak appears which exceeds the average value by about 3 standard deviations. Intermediate resolution (/ 25 000) CCD spectra of the oxygen triplet at 7770 Å have been analyzed to determine oxygen abundances in a sample of metal-deficient stars with metallicities covering the range –2.5[Fe/H]–0.2. Important oxygen overabundances ([O/Fe]1) are found in the more metal deficient stars of the sample. We briefly discuss the information that these observations provide about the early nucleosynthesis history and chemical evolution of the Galaxy.  相似文献

On November 27, 1974, a map of the Moon was obtained at 6 cm wavelength with the 100-m-telescope in Effelsberg. The high angular and favourable temperature resolution allowed an interpretation of the observed brightness distribution. The dominant feature of the brightness distribution is the centre-to-limb variation, particularly noticeable in the direction of the poles. The exponent of the commonly adopted cos ()-law, describing the temperature variation across the lunar disk, is determined as 0.4. The North-South variation of the lunar surface temperature is estimated to be 30%; the depth of penetration (L e) of electromagnetic waves of 6 cm wavelength is found to beL e 17 m.  相似文献

Directional infrared emission from the sunlit lunar surface is determined for the thermal meridian and as a function of observer elevation and azimuth angles at three Sun elevation angles. A study of selected mare sites at full Moon suggests that brightness temperatures are relatively insensitive to changes in certain surface parameters, such as the photometric function, emissivity, and thermophysical properties of the soil. The observed deviations from predictions for an average surface can be accounted for by changes in surface roughness.Deceased 12 January, 1971.  相似文献

The equations of the physical libration of the Moon are developed using a representation of the Earth-Moon orbit as a Kepler ellipse referred to the lunar equator and expanding the lunar potential in terms of these Kepler elements. TheImproved Lunar Ephemeris is used to calculate solar perturbations, and a linear integration of all effects arising from lunar gravitational harmonics through the fourth degree performed. Aside from unobservable constant offsets of the principal axes, the main effects of the higher harmonics on longitude are: 10 six-yearly (argument), 1.2 three-yearly, 0.5 annual, and 0.1 monthly; on pole direction they are on the order of 0.5 six-yearly and 1.0 monthly. The higher harmonics must hence be taken into account in analyzing ranging data of 10 cm accuracy.Paper dedicated to Prof. Harold C.
