Infrared observations of the unique symbiotic system CH Cyg in 2003–2006 are presented. Analysis of the observations has shown that a fairly dense dust structure (a cloud or a shell) appeared on the line of sight in August–November 2006. The dust grains in the new shell are similar in optical properties to graphite ones and their sizes are mostly within the range 0.14–0.16 μm. The dust shell is optically thick and its optical depth at 2.2 μm is τ(2.2) ≈ 0.97. The dust shell mass is M d(06) ≈ 8 × 10−6 M and the rate of matter flow into the shell has reached ∼2 × 10−5 M yr−1. Original Russian Text ? O.G. Taranova, V.I. Mid-infrared imaging photometry of the Orion BN/KL infrared cluster at eight wavelengths between 5 and 20µm using a 58 × 62 pixel imaging array camera has revealed new compact sources and the large-scale structure of the region in diffraction-limited (1 arcsec) detail. Several new objects have been detected within a few arcsec of IRc2, widely thought to be the principal luminosity source for the entire BN/KL complex. Detailed color temperature and emission opacity images are derived from the 7.8, 12.4 and 20.0µm observations, and the 9.8µm image is used to derive an image of “silicate” dust extinction for the region. The color temperature, opacity, and extinction images show that IRc2 may not be the single dominant luminosity source for the BN/KL region; substantial contributions to the luminosity could be made by IRc7, BN, KL, and five new compact 10µm sources detected within a few arcseconds of IRc2. We suggest that a luminous, early-type star near IRc2, which is associated with the compact radio source “I” and the Orion SiO maser, is the dominant luminosity source in the BN/KL region, hidden from view by cool dust material with at least Av ~ 60 mag of visible extinction.  相似文献

We present new mid-IR images of AGB and post-AGB circumstellar envelopes (CSEs) obtained with the 10–20 μm imaging camera CAMIRAS mounted at the TIRGO infrared telescope (Gornergrat, Switzerland). Diffraction limited images of the sources are obtained, and extended emission for the brightest sources is detected for several arcseconds. Simple radiative transfer modelling is necessary to fit the observed data and derive the physical and chemical state of the envelope. This kind of analysis is an important test for dust formation theories, because it gives indications of dust properties along their condensation path through the envelope. This revised version was published online in September 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Our 8-year-long JHKLM photometry of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068 has confirmed its IR variability. The amplitudes of the brightness variations in the J (1.25 μm) and K (2.2 μm) bands are within 0 . m 15 and 0 . m 3, respectively, and exceed the observational errors by more than a factor of 5. The nucleus of NGC 1068 is a variable source and can be at different phases of activity. The brightness of the galaxy in all bands except J decreased from 1998 until 2004. In this period, there was a tendency for the J brightness to increase. The variable source in NGC 1068 is a complex structured object. At least two sources radiate in the wavelength range 1.25–5 μm: a hot source whose radiation shows up in the range 1.25–1.65 μm and a cold source radiating at long wavelengths (2.2–5 μm). The color temperature of the hot source increased from 2300 K (the beginning of our observations) to ∼2700 K (the end of our observations). In contrast, the temperature of the cold source decreased by several tens of degrees (in the temperature range 800–900 K). The IR brightness and color variations observed in 1998–2004 are attributable to the dispersal of the dust envelope that formed around the galactic nucleus some 30 years ago and reached its maximum density in 1994–1995. Our analysis of the spectral energy distributions for the galaxy has shown that the observed radiation in the range 1.25–5 μm can be represented as the sum of radiations from two blackbody sources. For the first period of our observations (JD 2451400), the temperatures of the hot and cold sources are ∼3100 and 760 K, respectively. For the second period (JD 2453230), they are ∼3200 and 720 K, respectively. The hot source is relatively compact; it is smaller in size than the cold source by several tens of times. The mean sizes of the hot and cold sources are ∼2.35 × 1016 and ∼7.8 × 1017 cm, respectively. The total mean luminosity of the two sources did not change between the beginning and the end of our observations. The optical depth of the dust envelope averaged over the spectrum of the hot source is τ ∼ 1.5. In 2004, the state of the dust envelope almost returned to its 1974 level, i.e., the dust envelope formation and dispersal cycle was ∼11 000 days (∼30 yr). Original Russian Text ? O.G. Taranova, V.I. The results of JHKLM photometry for Nova Delphini 2013 obtained in the first sixty days after its outburst are analyzed. Analysis of the energy distribution in a wide spectral range (0.36–5 µm) has shown that the source mimics the emission of normal supergiants of spectral types B5 and A0 for two dates near its optical brightness maximum, August 15.94 UT and August 16.86 UT, respectively. The distance to the nova has been estimated to be D ≈ 3 kpc. For these dates, the following parameters have been estimated: the source’s bolometric fluxes ~9 × 10?7 and ~7.2 × 10?7 erg s?1 cm?2, luminosities L ≈ 2.5 × 105 L and ≈2 × 105 L , and radii R ≈ 6.3 × 1012 and ≈1.2 × 1013 cm. The nova’s expansion velocity near its optical brightness maximum was ~700 km s?1. An infrared (IR) excess associated with the formation of a dust shell is shown to have appeared in the energy distribution one month after the optical brightness maximum. The parameters of the dust component have been estimated for two dates of observations, JD2456557.28 (September 21, 2013) and JD2456577.18 (October 11, 2013). For these dates, the dust shell parameters have been estimated: the color temperatures ≈1500 and ≈1200 K, radii ≈6.5 × 1013 and 1.7 × 1014 cm, luminosities ~4 × 103 L and ~1.1 × 104 L , and the dust mass ~1.6 × 1024 and ~1025 g. The total mass of the material ejected in twenty days (gas + dust) could reach ~1.1 × 10?6 M . The rate of dust supply to the nova shell was ~8 × 10?8 M yr?1. The expansion velocity of the dust shell was about 600 km s?1.  相似文献

Strong evidence that Io's sodium emission is due to resonant scattering is given by our observations which show a monotonic increase of emission intensity with residual solar intensity. In addition we detected no emission during three eclipse observations of Io. We propose a resonant scattering model with two spacial components comprising an optically thick atmosphere extending 103 km above Io's surface surrounded by an optically thin cloud which forms a partial torus around Jupiter. In this model a flux of 107 cm?2 sec?1 sodium atoms are sputtered from Io's surface by heavy energetic ions which are accelerated in a plasma sheath around Io. The atoms sputtered from the surface collide with atoms in Io's atmosphere so the equipartition of kinetic energy is established. The total sodium abundance is about 3 × 1013 cm?2. During Io's day, sodium and other atmospheric constituents are ionized, giving rise to the ionosphere observed by Pioneer 10. Atoms escape by means of Jeans escape from the critical level, which is at the top of the atmosphere and the base of the cloud. We have observed sodium emission 6arcsec (6 Io diameters) above and below Io's orbital plane and 23arcsec toward Jupiter in Io's orbital plane. No emission was detected at maximum elongation 180° from Io. We interpret these results to mean that atoms escaping from Io form a partial torus whose thickness is about 12 arcsec and whose length is at least one-fifth of Io's orbital circumference.  相似文献

Sample 14307,30, a gas-rich breccia (Group 1 of Warner, 1972) has been studied by coupling track method and light noble gas isotopic analysis. The breccia is made of a glassy dark matrix with embedded millimeter to sub-millimeter sized angular ligth xenoliths. These ones are breccia fragments of higher grade metamorphic facies (Group ? 2). A lighter strata (~ 0.5 cm thick) intersects the dark matrix. Noble gas analysis have shown the dark matrix (36Ar = 5.4 × 10?4 cc STP/g) to be enriched in solar type gases with respect to the light fractions (36Ar ? 2.2 × 10?4 cc STP/g). Themean value of the bulk ‘exposure age’ for different samplings is 180 ± 20 × 106 yr, as calculated from spallogenic3He,21Ne and126Xe contents, using our data and those of Bogard and Nyquist (1972). After appropriate correction for radiogenic40Ar, the ratio40Arexc/36Artr is about 5. A total of 390 crystals coming from 11 locations either in the dark matrix, the lighter strata or a light xenolith (0.25 cm diam), have been studied by track analysis using optical and scanning electron microscopy. 181 crystals were thoroughly investigated by means of the latter technique. The following results were obtained:
  1. 72 crystals (70-300µm diam) from one location (No. 12) in the matrix show aminimum track density distribution spreading over 3 orders of magnitude (from 2 × 106 up to 2 × 109 cm?2). The spectrum has at its lower edge a well defined peak (~ 50% of total crystal number) around 3 × 106 cm?2). Grains with track density variations over a factor of 3 have a low abundance as compared to average lunar soils. Moreover the mineralogy of this location is peculiar due to its large abundance in orthopyroxenes. Considering the lower edge of the track density distribution amaximum surface residence time of 5 × 106 yr can be set for rock 14307 in itspresent shape;
  2. 11 feldspars (1-15µm diam) and 22 clinopyroxenes (70-130µm) have been studied in the light xenolith. All crystals have minimum track densities larger than 108 cm?2. No spatial variation of track-densities (2.5 ± 0.5 × 109 cm?2) were found in feldspars inside a millimeter-sized polished section. Clearly these tracks were not acquired by an irradiation of the xenolith as an individual entity, but survived its own formation as a breccia of Group 2. Therefore, solar energetic iron particle tracks have not been erased despite a complex mechanical and thermal history involved by two subsequent brecciation processes;
  3. in the 10 other locations, crystals (70-200µm diam) either from the dark matrix or the lighter strata show a significant departure from the pattern observed in lunar soils; namely:
  1. the minimum track density distribution is strongly peaked at high values (~ 1-4 × 109 cm?2) for ~ 95% of the crystals, the remaining ~ 5% having low-values (0.2-1 × 107 cm?2);
  2. the abundance (2%) of crystals with track density variation over a factor of 3 is about one order of magnitude less than in average lunar soils;
  3. the magnitude of track density gradients within single crystals is small. In fact, thelargest track density variation versus depth found can be described by the relation? α D?0.5, in contrast with soil grains which generally exhibit a variation of the form? α D?1.1±0.4.
The above observations imply that the peculiar irradiation characteristics of these fossilized soils are more likely to be attributed to some wide scale process rather than to some accidental or local phenomena. Attempts to account for these findings by present solar VH particle flux and energy distribution (as determined by Crozaz and Walker, 1971; Fleischeret al., 1971b; Priceet al., 1971), current estimates of lunar fine scale erosion, accumulation and turn-over rates, have proven essentially negative. The bulk ‘exposure age’ of the breccia, rather low by lunar soil standards, makes things even worse. For lack of any better explanation, the above observations could be more easily understood by postulating a higher flux (by factors from ~ 10 up to 200) and a harder energy spectrum (at least for particles with rigidity less than 0.3 GV) for the solar cosmic rays at the time the constituents of the breccia were part as loose grains of the lunar regolith.  相似文献

Spectra of the central core and surrounding coma of Comet IRAS-Araki-Alcock (1983d) were obtained at 8–13 μm on 11 May and 2–4 μm on 12 May 1983. Spatially resolved measurements at 10 μm with a 4-arcsec beam showed that the central core was more than 100 times brighter than the inner coma only 8 arcsec away; for radially outflowing dust, the brightness ratio would be a factor of 8. The observations of the central core are consistent with direct detection of a nucleus having a radius of approximately 5 km. The temperature of the sunlit hemisphere was > 300 K. Spectra of the core are featureless, while spectra of the coma suggest weak silicate emission. The spectra show no evidence for icy grains. The dust producton rate on 11.4 May was ~ 105 g/sec, assuming that the gas flux from the dust-producing areas on the nucleus was ~ 10?5 g/cm2/sec.  相似文献

We present the results of our study of the emission from the transient burster MX 0836-42 using its observations by the INTEGRAL and RXTE X-ray and gamma-ray observatories in the period 2003–2004. The source’s broadband X-ray spectrum in the energy range 3–120 keV has been obtained and investigated for the first time. We have detected 39 X-ray bursts from this source. Their analysis shows that the maximum 3–20-keV flux varies significantly from burst to burst, F ~ (0.5–1.5) × 10?8 erg cm?2 s?1. Using the flux at the maximum of the brightest detected burst, we determined an upper limit for the distance to the source, D ? 8 kpc.  相似文献

A 4-km synthesis radio telescope has recently been commissioned at Ootacamund, India for operation at 327 MHz. It consists of the Ooty Radio Telescope (530 m × 30 m) and 7 small antennas which are distributed over an area of about 4 km × 2 km. It has a coverage of about ± 40‡ in declination δ. The beam-width is about 40 arcsec × 90 arcsec at δ = 0‡ and about 40 arcsec × 50 arcsec at δ = 40‡. The sensitivity attained for a 5:1 signal-to-noise ratio is about 15 m Jy after a 10-hour integration. The observational programmes undertaken and some of the results obtained recently are summarized. The radio halo around the edge-on spiral NGC 4631 is found to have a larger scale-height at 327 MHz than is known at higher frequencies. Mapping of interesting radio galaxies at 327 MHz is being carried out; preliminary results for 0511-305 (∼2 Mpc) and 1333-337 (∼750 kpc) are summarized. The very-steep-spectrum radio source in the Abell cluster A85 is found to be resolved; since it has no obvious optical counterpart, it is conceivable that it is a remnant of past activity of a galaxy that has drifted away in about 109 years.  相似文献

We present the results of 15184 astrometric observations of 322 visual binaries carried out in 2007–2014 at Pulkovo observatory. In 2007, the 26-inch refractor (F = 10413 mm, D = 65 cm) was equipped with the CCD camera FLI ProLine 09000 (FOV 12′ × 12′, 3056 × 3056 pixels, 0.238 arcsec pixel?1). Telescope automation and weather monitoring system installation allowed us to increase the number of observations significantly. Visual binary and multiple systems with an angular distance in the interval 1.?1–78.?6 with 7.?3 on average were included in the observing program. The results were studied in detail for systematic errors using calibration star pairs. There was no detected dependence of errors on temperature, pressure, and hour angle. The dependence of the 26-inch refractor’s scale on temperature was taken into account in calculations. The accuracy of measurement of a single CCD image is in the range of 0.?0005 to 0.?289, 0.?021 on average along both coordinates. Mean errors in annual average values of angular distance and position angle are equal to 0.?005 and 0.°04 respectively. The results are available here http://izmccd.puldb.ru/vds.htmand in the Strasbourg Astronomical Data Center (CDS). In the catalog, the separations and position angles per night of observation and annual average as well as errors for all the values and standard deviations of a single observation are presented. We present the results of comparison of 50 pairs of stars with known orbital solutions with ephemerides.  相似文献

To choose the best strategy for conducting a deep extragalactic survey with the ART-XC X-ray telescope onboard the Spectrum–Röntgen–Gamma (SRG) observatory and to estimate the expected results, we have simulated the observations of a 1.1° × 1.1° field in the 5–11 and 8–24 keV energy bands. For this purpose, we have constructed a model of the active galactic nuclei (AGN) population that reflects the properties of the X-ray emission from such objects. The photons that “arrived” from these sources were passed through a numerical model of the telescope, while the resulting data were processed with the standard ART-XC data processing pipeline. We show that several hundred AGNs at redshifts up to z ≈ 3 will be detected in such a survey over 1.2 Ms of observations with the expected charged particle background levels. Among them there will be heavily obscured AGNs, which will allow a more accurate estimate of the fraction of such objects in the total population to be made. Source confusion is expected at fluxes below 2 × 10?14 erg s?1 cm?2 (5–11 keV). Since this value can exceed the source detection threshold in a deep survey at low particle background levels, it may turn out to be more interesting to conduct a survey of larger area (several square degrees) but smaller depth, obtaining a sample of approximately four hundred bright AGNs as a result.  相似文献

Photographic observations of the nightside of Jupiter by the Voyager 1 spacecraft show the presence of extensive lightning activity. Detection of whistlers by the plasma wave analyzer confirms the optical observations and implies that many flashes were not recorded by the Voyager camera because the intensity of the flashes was below the threshold sensitivity of the camera. Measurements of the optical energy radiated per flash indicate that the observed flashes had energies similar to that for terrestrial superbolts. The best estimate of the lightning energy dissipation rate of 0.4 × 10?3 W/m2 was derived from a consideration of the optical and radiofrequency measurements. The ratio of the energy dissipated by lightning compared to the convective energy flux is estimated to be between 0.27 × 10?4 and 0.5 × 10?4. The terrestrial value is 1 × 10?4.  相似文献

The Galilean satellite eclipse technique for measuring the aerosol distribution in the Jovian lower stratosphere and upper troposphere is described and applied using 30 color observations of 12 natural satellite eclipses obtained with the 200-in Hale telescope. These events probe the North and South Polar Regions, the North Temperate Belt, the South Equatorial Belt, the South Tropical Zone, the South Temperate Zone, and the Great Red Spot. Aerosol is found above the visible cloud tops in all locations. It is very tenuous and varies with altitude, increasing rapidly with downward passage through the tropopause. The aerosol extinction coefficient at 1.05 μm is 1.0 ± 0.05 × 10?8 cm?1 at the tropopause and the mass density is a few times 10?13 g cm?3. The observations require some aerosol above the tropopause but do not clearly determine its structure. The present analysis emphasizes an extended haze distribution, but the alternate possibility that the stratospheric aerosol resides in a thin layer is not excluded. The vertical aerosol optical depth above the tropopause at 1.05 μm exceeds 0.04 in the NPR, SPR, NTB, SEB, and StrZ, is ~0.006 ± 0.003 in the STZ, and is ~ 0.003 ± 0.001 above the GRS. The aerosol extinction increases with decreasing wavelength in the STZ and NTB and indicates a particle radius of 0.2–0.5 μm; a radius of ~0.9 μm is indicated in the STrZ.  相似文献

In an updating of energy characteristics of lightnings on Venus obtained from Venera-9 and -10 optical observations, the flash energy is given as 8 × 108 J and the mean energy release of lightnings is 1 erg cm?2 s which is 25 times as high as that on the Earth. Lightnings were observed in the cloud layer. The stroke rate in the near-surface atmosphere is less than 5 s?1 over the entire planet if the light energy of the stroke exceeds 4 × 105 J and less than 15 s?1 for (1–4) × 105 J.The average NO production due to lightnings equals 5 × 108 cm?2 s?1, the atomic nitrogen production is equal to 7 × 109 cm?2s?1,the N flux toward the nightside is 3.2 × 109 cm?2s?1, the number densities [N] = 3 × 107cm?3 and [NO] = 1.8 × 106cm?3 at 135 km. Almost all NO molecules in the upper atmosphere vanish interacting with N and the resulting NO flux at 90-80 km equals 5 × 105cm?2s?1, which is negligibly small as compared with lightning production. If the predissociation at 80–90 km is regarded as the single sink of NO, its mixing ratio, fNO, is 4 × 10?8, for the case of a surface sink fNO = 0.8 × 10?9 at 50 km. Excess amounts, fNO ? 4 × 10?8, may exist in the thunderstorm region.  相似文献

ART-P/Granat observations of the X-ray burster SLX 1732-304 in the globular cluster Terzan 1 are presented. The X-ray (3–20 keV) fluxes from the source differed by more than a factor of 4 during the observing sessions on September 8 (F x ? 6.95 × 10?10 erg cm?2 s?1) and October 6, 1990 (F x ? 1.64 × 10?10 erg cm?2 s?1). The intensity variations of SLX 1732-304 were apparently accompanied by variations in its hardness: whereas the source in its high state had the spectrum with a distinct exponential cutoff typical of bright low-mass X-ray binaries, its low-state spectrum could be satisfactorily described by a simple power law with a photon index α?1.7. During the ART-P observation on September 8, a type I X-ray burst was detected from SLX 1732-304.  相似文献

Infrared observations of the Io eclipse of 12 April 1980 in five broad bands from 3 to 30 μm define the thermal emission spectrum both during and after eclipse. A substantial fraction of the emitted radiation during eclipse arises from hot spots; the equivalent global average heat flow is 1.5 ± 0.3 W m?2, corresponding to an internal source of (6 ± 1) × 1013 W. The hot spot spectra can be matched by components with color temperatures of 200–600°K covering 1–2% of the surface. Comparison with observations over the past 8 years suggests that, while the flux at the hottest temperatures may be highly variable, there is no evidence for major changes in the total heat flow, which is emitted primarily in the spectral region 10–20 μm. The heating curves of the surface were observed at 10 and 20 μm; when corrected for the hot spot contribution they indicate a typical global thermal inertia for Io of (0.2 ± 0.1) × 10?3cal cm?2sec?12K?1, similar to that of the other Galilean satellites.  相似文献

H3+ emission from Uranus has been observed repeatedly for over a decade. However, the details of the emission mechanisms are still poorly understood. In this paper, we discuss our findings from the observations we made in September 2000 and September 2001. The spectrum of Uranus was recorded at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility using the SpeX instrument between 3 and 5 μm, with a resolving power of 1000. The 3.4–4.1 μm range permits a determination of both the H3+ column density and its rotational temperature. The H3+ emission, measured at 3.986 μm in the 0.8×3.7 arcsec aperture, was 0.031 Jy in September 2000 and 0.053 Jy in September 2001. The rotational temperature was found to be 560±40 K and 640±40 K in 2000 and 2001 respectively, with corresponding column densities of 5.1 (+3.2,−1.4) 1011 and 4.0 (+1.8,−1.0) 1011 cm−2. These results extend the baseline for the variability study of the H3+ emission (Astrophys. J. 524 (1999) 1059). Previous observations between 1992 and 1998 seemed to indicate a correlation between the H3+ intensity and the solar cycle. The current data for 2000 and 2001 appear to be consistent with this general tendency.  相似文献

The methane abundance in the lower Jovian stratosphere is measured using Galilean satellite eclipse light curves. Spectrally selective observations in and between absorption bands are compared. An average mixing ratio at the locations measured is [CH4]/[H2] ~ 1.3 × 10?3, larger than the value 0.9 × 10?3 expected for a solar abundance of carbon. Some zenographic variation of the mixing ratio may occur. Observationally compatible values are 1.3–2.0 × 10?3 in the STZ, 1.3– 2.6 × 10?3 on the GRS/STrZ edge, and 0.7–1.3 × 10?3 in the GRS.  相似文献
