The blanketing effect for the solar disc center and its value near the limb (cos = 0.23) are obtained for the rocket ultraviolet region using the Harvard center and limb spectra. The value of for the disc center appears to be 0.67 (on average) relative to the quasicontinuum. The essential decrease of towards the limb is also revealed.  相似文献

An expression is derived for the fluctuation (t) in emergent intensity (observed at some wavelength in a Fraunhofer line or the continuum) caused by a perturbation in temperature (z, t) in the Sun's atmosphere. If the contribution function for the observed intensity is single-peaked near z and if (z) and p(z) are not too rapidly varying, then (t) m (z , t)+N p(z , t) where m and N depend on the structure of the atmosphere. For the case of optically thin lines, we show that the relation existing between the first order momentW 1 (E()/E c –1)(–12)d of a P Cygni profile and the quantityMn(level), whereM is the mass-loss rate of the central star andn(level) the fractional abundance of the ion under study, is in fact independent of any Sobolev-type approximations used for the transfer of line radiation, contrary to what has been assumed in some previous works (Castoret al., 1981; Surdej, 1982). Consequently, all results established in the context of very rapidly expanding atmospheres and mainly referring to the non-dependence ofW 1 vs various physical (underlying photospheric absorption line, limb darkening, etc.) and geometrical (velocity fieldv(r), etc.) effects remain unchanged for arbitrary (e.g non-Sobolev type) outward-accelerating velocity laws.Whenever applied with caution, Equation (50) thus provides a very powerful means of deriving mass-loss rates—with a total uncertainty less than 60 percent—from the measurementW 1 of unsaturated P Cygni profiles observed in the spectrum of early—as well as late—type stars, quasars, etc.  相似文献

In this paper, a technique of recursive analysis is developed for the integral transform A of the exponential integral functionsE n which is denoted as n (). The main result of this analysis enables us to establish a two-term recurrence formula for n (0) and a three-term recurrence formula for n (); 0. The optical depth at the head of the Lyman continuum, H, is determined at a number of positions in three hedgerow prominences using spectroheliograms (5 × 5 resolution) of C III 977, LC 896, and O IV 554 observed with the Harvard experiment on Skylab. At heights greater than 10 above the limb the maximum value of H is 30 to 50, which occurs at the central part of the prominences. For one of the prominences the determination of H is found to be consistent with data from spectroheliograms of Mg X 625. The degree of ionization of hydrogen is estimated from the intensity of LC 896 at H 1. In the central part of a model prominence N P/N HI1.9 for a reasonable range of the electron densities, where N P and N HI are the proton density and the neutral hydrogen density, respectively.  相似文献

Center-to-limb measurements of the Ca i 6573 intercombination line and the Ca ii 7324 forbidden line are compared with synthetic profiles based on a simple representation of the non-LTE Ca-Ca+ ionization equilibrium. The effects of photoionizations from low lying excited states of neutral calcium are found to reduce the sensitivity of the 6573 center-to-limb behavior as a thermal structure diagnostic. The synthetic center-to-limb behavior is also sensitive to uncertainties in the nonthermal broadening. Nevertheless, the measured center-to-limb behavior of 6573 favors a cool photospheric model similar to the Vernazza, Avrett, and Loeser model M over hotter models based on the Ca ii K wings. The non-LTE calcium abundance obtained from the disk center equivalent widths of 6573 and 7324 using the best fit model is A Ca2.1±0.2 × 10-6 (by number relative to hydrogen). We report on a new ESB source, as defined by Allenet al. (1991), with Wolf-Rayet (WR) bands in its optical spectrum. The WR bump at 4605-4686 is detected. The bump consists of broad HeII 4686, NV4605-4619, NIII4634-41, and possibly, CIII4647-52 emission. The narrow nebular lines are clearly discernable on our spectrum. The number of WR stars derived from the luminosity of HeII4686 is about 8100. The oxygen abundance is about 9.06×10–4, greater than the solar value.  相似文献

The resonance polarization in Ca i 4226.73 has been measured close to the solar limb for three values of = cos. The polarization has maxima in the wings at about –500 and + 400 mÅ from the line center, the plane of polarization (electric vector) being parallel to the solar limb. The blue wing is more polarized than the red wing, contrary to earlier results of Brückner (1963). Local minima in the polarization curves occur at the position of blends. The polarization in the wings increases rapidly with decreasing . At = 0.15 the maximum polarization in the blue wing is about 2.4%.The observations are in good qualitative agreement with the recent theory of Dumont et al. (1973), but the observed polarization degrees are significantly smaller than the computed values. This may be explained by the inadequate formula for van der Waals broadening used in the theoretical calculations. Much of the discrepancies between observed and computed values disappear if the recent value of Lites (1974) for the collisional damping constant is used. Further improvements in theory and observation are discussed.  相似文献

We have examined seven active regions of the Skylab period in the EUV (Harvard College Observatory), and in H and K3 (Observatoire de Meudon, spectroheliograms and patrols) in order to elucidate the magnetic geometry in the coronal environment of filaments. We have also looked for signatures of magnetic reconfigurations associated with instabilities (i.e. velocities or disappearances) of filaments. Out of sixteen H filaments observed, six were stable (lifetime 48h). All the filaments lay within coronal cavities as seen in lines formed above 1.5 × 106 K (Mgx 625, Sixii 521, Fexvi 417, Fexv 361). None of the stable filaments had arcades or arches spanning the cavities except (sometimes) at the ends of the filaments. On the other hand, most (8/10) of the unstable filaments (having concurrent Doppler shifts or a subsequent DB within 24h) had arcades or single arches spanning their cavities. The arches were observed in EUV lines with formation temperatures as low as 2–4 × 105 K (Oiv 554, Ovi 1032, Ne vii 465), as well as in hotter lines. A statistical test shows that the arcade/instability vs non-arcade/stability association is significant at the 99% confidence level. We suggest 2 types of scenario relating arcades to instabilities. The more preferable scenario is closely related to the Kuperus/Van Tend model of filament disruptions.  相似文献

Computations of polarization and intensity of radiation from a unit stellar surface area are presented, as well as a study of the numerical characteristics of atmospheres — single-scattering albedo and the initial source function(), which define the polarization behaviour of atmospheres. The radiatively stable models of stellar atmospheres presented by Kuruczet al. (1974) and Kurucz (1979) have been used for calculations. Since the versus optical depth dependence is rather weak, it has been assumed that (=cost. With a fixed effective temperatureT eff maximum values of are characteristic of stars featuring the lowest surface gravity accelerationg. Among stars with radiatively stable atmospheres, maximum values of (=5000 Å) 0.4–0.6 are exhibited by supergiants withT eff=8000–20 000 K. The plot of () is characterized by discontinuities at the boundaries of spectral series for hydrogen and, sometimes, for helium. Maximum are attained in the Lyman region of =912–1200 Å, where can reach the value 0.7–0.9 for supergiants, this value being 0.3 for Main-Sequence stars. For stars withT eff 35 000 K, high values of also are attained for <912 Å. Within the infrared region, is always small because of bremsstrahlung absorption.A rapid growth of the source functionB with < typical for ultraviolet range (within the Wien part of spectrum), together with high values of results in the strong polarization of emission from a unit stellar surface element, sometimes exceeding the values for the case of a pure electron scattering. For longer wavelengths, where the limb-darkening coefficient is smaller, the plane of polarization abruptly turns 90° in the central parts of the visible stellar disk.  相似文献

Spectral scans of the coma of comet P/Crommelin 1818. I have been obtained in the wavelength range 3200–6500 Å. Strong emission features of CN(3883 Å) and C2 Swan bands (4695, 5165, and 5538 Å) have been identified. Some weak emission features of CH(3890 Å), C3(4050 Å), CN(4200 »), and C2 + CH(4358 ») were also detected. Sodium was found to be absent in this comet. An estimate of CN and C2 abundances has been made and their production rate have been derived.  相似文献

In this paper the absolute limb effect for a number of Fraunhofer lines observed at the McMath Solar Observatory is given. Results, uncorrected for scattered light, are given for the following lines: Fei 37334.9, 3735.3, 5123.7, 5250.2, 5434.5, 6678.0, and 8886.6. Additional lines observed are five lines of CN 3876.3–3880.0, two lines of Cai 6161.3 and 6162.2, one line of Nai, 6160.7, and one CN line (7957.0) of the red system.Operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. We report spectroscopic measurements on the 6s6p 3P1 level of Lu+ at 28503.16 cm-1. The radiative lifetime of this level was measured to be 37.4 ± 1.9 ns using time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence of a slow ion beam. Branching fractions were determined from Lu spectra recorded using the 1.0 m Fourier transform spectrometer at the National Solar Observatory. Thelog(gf) values determined by combining the radiative lifetime and branching fractions for the 3507.39, 5983.90, and 6221.87 (air wavelengths) lines are - 1.16 ± 0.03, - 1.16 ± 0.06, and -0.76 ± 0.04, respectively. The 6221.87 line has been identified by Bord, Cowley, and Mirijanian (1997) as the best candidate for the determination of the solar lutetium abundance because it is only slightly blended in the solar spectrum. The present 6221.87 transition probability measurement brings their solar lutetium abundance into good agreement with the CI chondrite abundance.  相似文献

The aim of this paper has been to study the neutral helium triplet emission lines identified in the spectrum of the envelope of Nova Delphini. By comparing the observed flux of the neutral helium lines with that calculated theoretically by Robbins, we find that the optical thickness in the center of the line 3889 is of the order of 21.50 for summer 1969. The optical thickness obtained by this method is here denoted tran(3889).On the other hand, we obtain the number of neutral helium atoms in the 23S state [N(23S)] by considering the equilibrium between the mechanisms that populate and depopulate this state. We then find that the depopulation by photoionization due to the radiation of Ly (Hi), transitions to the 21S, 21p and 23p states by electron collision, photoionization due to the continuum radiation of the central star, are 82.70%, 13.20%, 2.40%, 0.90% and 0.80% respectively. We find that the mechanism of the photoionization by Ly is the dominant mechanism of depopulation of 23S state. We calculated ( 3889) of the order of 82.37, fromN(23S), obtained in the preceding paragraph. The optical thickness obtained by this method is here denoted bal(3889).The difference between tran(3889) and bal(3889) is very large and it cannot be attributed to calculation errors. We have considered all the mechanisms that can depopulate the 23S state, so we then conclude that the difference between tran(3889) and bal(3889) is due to the heterogeneity of the envelope of the Nova, already found by us in our previous study of the profiles of the permitted and forbidden lines. Finally, we find from this study a filling factor of the order of 0.30.  相似文献

Observations of a number of helium triplet ( 10830, 4713, 4471, 3889, 4026) and hydrogen (H, , , ) emission line intensities in six quiescent prominences are presented. The regions of prominence and neighboring corona were raster-scanned by the telescope, and all lines were measured concurrently at each point. The instrumental field of view was 5 × 20. The results are compared with previous observations and theory. In particular, the intensity of the 10830 emission relative to the other triplets is found to differ strongly from the predictions of the recent detailed calculations of Heasley et al. (1974) for model quiescent prominences.  相似文献

Calculations of the umbral profile of the Zeeman triplet 5250.22 are presented. We have taken into account the effect of a molecular blend from TiO at 5250.24 causing an apparent -component even for longitudinal magnetic fields. Also included is the depression of the spot continuum due to line wings and veiled weak lines in the umbra spectrum. The effect of different amounts of non-thermal broadening is investigated.The results point to the need of a better theoretical treatment of molecular and atomic blends and to the importance of more reliable values for the non-thermal broadening in sunspots. Furthermore, the importance of a proper stray light correction is noted, particularly including the stray light from the penumbra.  相似文献

Magnetic field strengths in small umbrae and pores are measured using the line Ti i 6064.6 Å, which is formed purely in umbrae. We find field strengths between 1900 and 2600 G in the darkest parts of small umbrae and of well established pores; the spread is partly intrinsic. The field strength in diffuse transient protopores amounts to 1500 ± 250 G.We demonstrate that usage ofthe well-known magnetic line 6173.3 Å and other Fe i lines yield systematically smaller magnetic field strengths than Ti i 6064.6 Å. This is due to blending ofthe components with the central component due to photospheric stray light and the component. The present paper describes a two-dimensional multi-band spectrograph which is located at Yunnan Observatory (25° N 103° E), Kunming. The instrument consists of a coelostat system with an aperture of 40 cm, and spatial resolution better than 1 under excellent seeing, and a spectrograph equipped with a plane reflecting grating. It can simultaneously obtain spectral data in ten bands, including the Balmer lines, metallic lines [Fei 6173 ,D 1, 2, 3, Mg, and Caii (H + K)] and Heii 4686 . We are able to control the observational processes by means of a computer and obtain the following data synchronously or quasi-synchronously: multi-band spectra, H filtergrams, magnetic field, and white light. With the aid of H slit-jaw filtergrams, we can determine where and when the spectral data are obtained and, on the basis of analysing the spectral line profiles, we can understand the physical characteristics of an active region and derive the fields of physical parameters. For the line-of-sight velocities, the values measured are as high as hundreds of kilometers per second and as low as a few kilometers per second.  相似文献

Residual intensity fluctuation measurements within the wings of the 5183.6 Mgi b1 line, obtained from two, high-resolution, high-dispersion, Sacramento Peak Observatory spectrograms, have been subtracted from intensity fluctuations in the adjacent continuum in order to isolate fluctuations associated exclusively with line formation. The useable spectral range for studying these lineformation fluctuations is restricted to wavelengths between 1040 and 7170 km because the subtraction increases the relative importance of noise and large-scale photographic variations across the spectrograms could not be completely removed. Power and cross-power (coherence and phase) spectra proved to be valuable diagnostic tools in isolating line-formation fluctuations.Over this spectral range, the line-formation fluctuations are characterized by flat power spectra as compared to those for continuum fluctuations, appreciable fluctuation rms relative to that for continuum fluctuations, and the necessity to multiply the wing fluctuations by a factor 0.95 min 1.00 to most effectively isolate these fluctuations (Figures 3 and 4). That continuum fluctuations are modified in shape but otherwise not drastically changed in the line wings explains the flat spectrum. The relative rms's vary from 0.34 in the inner wing to 0.22 in the outer. The range of possible values for min results from uncertainties in the photographic density-residual intensity calibration.  相似文献
