The problem of the transmitting boundary used in the dynamic finite element analysis of layered axisymmetric soil models with non-axisymmetric displacements is considered. Each layer is modelled as a homogeneous, viscoelastic cross anisotropic medium with a vertical axis of material symmetry.  相似文献

Consideration of structure-foundation-soil dynamic interaction is a basic requirement in the evaluation of the seismic safety of nuclear power facilities. An efficient and accurate dynamic interaction numerical model in the time domain has become an important topic of current research. In this study, the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) is improved for use as an effective numerical approach with good application prospects. This method has several advantages, including dimensionality reduction, accuracy of the radial analytical solution, and unlike other boundary element methods, it does not require a fundamental solution. This study focuses on establishing a high performance scaled boundary finite element interaction analysis model in the time domain based on the acceleration unit-impulse response matrix, in which several new solution techniques, such as a dimensionless method to solve the interaction force, are applied to improve the numerical stability of the actual soil parameters and reduce the amount of calculation. Finally, the feasibility of the time domain methods are illustrated by the response of the nuclear power structure and the accuracy of the algorithms are dynamically verified by comparison with the refinement of a large-scale viscoelastic soil model.  相似文献

The dynamic response of three-dimensional rigid surface foundations of arbitrary shape is numerically obtained. The foundations are placed on a linear elastic, isotropic and homogeneous half-space representing the soil medium and are subjected to either external dynamic forces or seismic waves of various kinds and directions, with a general transient time variation. The problem is formulated in the time domain by the boundary element method and the response is obtained by a time step-by-step integration. Two examples dealing with three-dimensional rectangular foundations are presented in detail, together with comparisons with other methods, in order to document the accuracy of the method. The main advantages of the proposed method are that, unlike frequency domain techniques, it provides directly the transient response and forms the basis for extension to the case of non-linear behaviour.  相似文献

The boundary element method has been successfully applied in the past to the analysis of hydrodynamic forces in two-dimensional infinite as well as two- and three-dimensional finite reservoirs subjected to seismic ground motions. This paper presents the results of more recent research on the application of the constant boundary element method to the 3D analysis of reservoir vibration. Special boundary conditions, previously used in the 2D case, to treat infinite radiation damping and damping from foundation soil and banks have been incorporated in this formulation. Numerical results for vibration of a 3D infinite rectangular reservoir as well as of a 3D infinite reservoir impounded by an arch dam are presented and compared with some existing results obtained by other researchers.  相似文献

An up to date literature survey on the dynamics of underground structures is presented briefly. The dynamic response of large three-dimensional underground structures to external or internal dynamic forces or to seismic waves is numerically determined by the frequency domain boundary element method. This method is used to model both the structure and the soil medium, which are assumed to behave as linear elastic or viscoelastic bodies. The full-space dynamic fundamental solution is employed in the formulation and this requires a free soil surface discretization, confined to a finite portion around the area of interest, in addition to soil—structure interface and free structural surface discretizations. The dynamic disturbances can have a harmonic or a transient time variation. The transient case is treated with the aid of numerical Laplace transforms with respect to time. Various numerical examples involving lined cavities and long lined tunnels buried in the full- or the half-space subjected to harmonic or transient external forces or seismic waves are presented to illustrate the method and demonstrate its advantages.  相似文献

This paper presents a parametric study that looks into the influence of pile rake angle on the kinematic internal forces of deep foundations with inclined piles. Envelopes of maximum kinematic bending moments, shear forces and axial loads are presented along single inclined piles and 2 × 2 symmetrical square pile groups with inclined elements subjected to an earthquake generated by vertically incident shear waves. Inclination angles from 0° to 30° are considered, and three different pile–soil stiffness ratios are studied. These results are obtained through a frequency–domain analysis using a boundary element–finite element code in which the soil is modelled by the boundary element method as a homogeneous, viscoelastic, unbounded region, and the piles are modelled by finite elements as Euler–Bernoulli beams. The rotational kinematic response of the pile foundations is shown to be a key factor on the evolution of the kinematic internal forces along the foundations. The weighted-residual technique, the indirect boundary element method, the truncated indirect boundary element method and the direct boundary element method can be used to analyse nonlinear soil-structure interaction in the time domain. They are illustrated and compared by using the one-dimensional dynamic problem of the spherical cavity in an infinite space. For realistic time steps, all formulations lead to accurate results, but the weighted-residual technique and the truncated indirect boundary element method are much more efficient than the direct boundary element method in the time domain. Hysteretic damping leads to noncausal behaviour, which can, however, be neglected from a practical point of view.  相似文献

The scaled boundary finite‐element method is a powerful semi‐analytical computational procedure to calculate the dynamic stiffness of the unbounded soil at the structure–soil interface. This permits the analysis of dynamic soil–structure interaction using the substructure method. The response in the neighbouring soil can also be determined analytically. The method is extended to calculate numerically the response throughout the unbounded soil including the far field. The three‐dimensional vector‐wave equation of elasto‐dynamics is addressed. The radiation condition at infinity is satisfied exactly. By solving an eigenvalue problem, the high‐frequency limit of the dynamic stiffness is constructed to be positive definite. However, a direct determination using impedances is also possible. Solving two first‐order ordinary differential equations numerically permits the radiation condition and the boundary condition of the structure–soil interface to be satisfied sequentially, leading to the displacements in the unbounded soil. A generalization to viscoelastic material using the correspondence principle is straightforward. Alternatively, the displacements can also be calculated analytically in the far field. Good agreement of displacements along the free surface and below a prism foundation embedded in a half‐space with the results of the boundary‐element method is observed. A new numerical procedure is proposed for the analysis of three-dimensional dynamic soil–structure interaction in the time domain. In this study, the soil is modelled as a linear elastic solid, however, the methods developed can be adapted to include the effects of soil non-linearities and hysteretic damping in the soil. A substructure method, in which the unbounded soil is modelled by the scaled boundary finite-element method, is used and the structure is modelled by 8–21 variable-number-node three-dimensional isoparametric or subparametric hexahedral curvilinear elements. Approximations in both time and space, which lead to efficient schemes for calculation of the acceleration unit-impulse response matrix, are proposed for the scaled boundary finite-element method resulting in significant reduction in computational effort with little loss of accuracy. The approximations also lead to a very efficient scheme for evaluation of convolution integrals in the calculation of soil–structure interaction forces. The approximations proposed in this paper are also applicable to the boundary element method. These approximations result in an improvement over current methods. A three-dimensional Dynamic Soil–Structure Interaction Analysis program (DSSIA-3D) is developed, and seismic excitations (S-waves, P-waves, and surface waves) and externally applied transient loadings can be considered in analysis. The computer program developed can be used in the analysis of three-dimensional dynamic soil–structure interaction as well as in the analysis of wave scattering and diffraction by three-dimensional surface irregularities. The scattering and diffraction of seismic waves (P-, S-, and Rayleigh waves) by various three-dimensional surface irregularities are studied in detail, and the numerical results obtained are in good agreement with those given by other authors. Numerical studies show that the new procedure is suitable and very efficient for problems which involve low frequencies of interest for earthquake engineering. Using reciprocal theorems for dynamic and static boundary value problems, boundary integral equations are presented for wave propagation in elastic, isotropic media and compressible, inviscid fluids in the time domain as well as in the frequency domain. For the analysis of fluid–soil and fluid–structure systems, suitable coupling conditions are prescribed along the interfaces. The numerical treatment of the boundary integral equations consists of a point collocation and of a discretization of the boundary, in which constant and linear approximation functions are assumed. Step-by-step integration is applied to the time-dependent equations, where again the states are taken to be linear and constant over each time interval. These boundary element procedures are used to analyse the response of dams due to horizontal and vertical ground motions considering dam–water interaction and absorption of hydrodynamic pressure waves at the reservoir bottom or at the far end into the soil medium. Both the frequency response and the impulse generated transient response are investigated.  相似文献

A technique for modeling transient wave propagation in unbounded media is extended and applied to seismic soil–structure interaction analysis in the time domain. The technique, based on the discontinuous Galerkin method, requires lower computational cost and less storage than the boundary element method, and the time‐stepping scheme resulting from Newmark's method in conjunction with the technique is unconditionally stable, allowing for efficient and robust time‐domain computations. To extend the technique to cases characterized by seismic excitation, the free‐field motion is used to compute effective forces, which are introduced on the boundary of the computational domain containing the structure and the soil in the vicinity of the structure. A numerical example on a dam–foundation system subjected to seismic excitation demonstrates the performance of the method. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The boundary element method has been successfully applied in the past to the analysis of hydrodynamic forces in two- and three-dimensional finite water reservoirs subjected to seismic ground motions. In extending the method to an infinite reservoir, the loss of energy due to pressure waves moving away towards infinity must be taken into account. In addition, for both finite and infinite reservoirs, energy is lost owing to partial absorption of the waves incident on a flexible bottom consisting of alluvial deposits. This paper presents the results of more recent research on the application of the boundary element method to the analysis of 2D reservoir vibration. Two different formulations are used: a constant boundary element formulation and a linear boundary element formulation. Special boundary conditions to treat infinite radiation and foundation damping have been incorporated in both formulations. Numerical results have been obtained for each of the two alternative formulations and compared against each other as well as with classical solutions and results obtained by other researchers.  相似文献

A simple boundary element formulation which is based directly on the point load solutions for an elastic full-space is presented. It is integrated in a finite element program to calculate dynamic soil-structure interaction problems. The combined boundary and finite element method is applied to structures which are excited by horizontally propagating waves in the soil. For three different types of flexible structure-elastic beams, low and high (square) shear walls-and the corresponding rigid structures the vibration modes and the soil-structure transfer functions have been investigated. The flexible foundations display the same wave pattern as the exciting free-field of the soil, but the amplitudes are reduced with increasing frequency, depending on the stiffness or wave resistance of the structure. Rigid structures show, in part, quite different behaviour, giving free-field reductions caused by kinematic and inertial soil-structure interaction.  相似文献

For a class of civil engineering structures, that can be accurately represented by ‘coupled shear walls’ (CSWs), a discrete model for the analysis of the dynamic interaction with the underlying soil is proposed. The CSWs, with one or more rows of openings, rest on a rigid foundation embedded in the elastic or viscoelastic half-space. A hierarchical finite element model based on an equivalent continuum approach is adopted for the structure. A frequency-domain boundary element method is used to represent the half-space. Finally, the set of equations governing the response of the coupled soil-structure system to harmonic lateral loads acting on the structure is also given. The frequency deviation effect with respect to the fixed-base structure and the effects of radiation and material damping in the soil are presented for different characteristics of the structure and different soil properties.

This paper explores dynamic soil–bridge interaction in high speed railway lines. The analysis was conducted using a general and fully three-dimensional multi-body finite element–boundary element model formulated in the time domain to predict vibrations caused by trains passing over the bridge. The vehicle was modelled as a multi-body system, the track and the bridge were modelled using finite elements and the soil was considered as a half-space by the boundary element method. The dynamic response of bridges to vehicle passage is usually studied using moving force and moving mass models. However, the multi-body system allows to consider the quasi-static and dynamic excitation mechanisms. Soil–structure interaction was taken into account by coupling finite elements and boundary elements. The paper presents the results obtained for a simply supported short span bridge in a resonant regime under different soil stiffness conditions.  相似文献

The scaled boundary finite‐element method has been developed for the dynamic analysis of unbounded domains. In this method only the boundary is discretized resulting in a reduction of the spatial dimension by one. Like the finite‐element method no fundamental solution is required. This paper extends the scaled boundary finite‐element method to simulate the transient response of non‐homogeneous unbounded domains with the elasticity modulus and mass density varying as power functions of spatial coordinates. To reduce the number of degrees of freedom and the computational cost, the technique of reduced set of base functions is applied. The scaled boundary finite‐element equation for an unbounded domain is reformulated in generalized coordinates. The resulting acceleration unit‐impulse response matrix is obtained and assembled with the equation of motion of standard finite elements. Numerical examples of non‐homogeneous isotropic and transversely isotropic unbounded domains demonstrate the accuracy of the scaled boundary finite‐element method.
