The results of the multiaperture photometry of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 1991 T2 in the pre-perihelion and P/deVico in the post-perihelion period with the narrowband CN, C2 and Blue Continuum (BC) IHW filters are presented. A Haser model of the molecular coma was used for the determination of the parent and daughter scale-lengths and production rates of the radicals. The comets showed some substantial differences between their parent scale-lengths. The CN parent scale-length (at 1.0 AU) was 16×103 km for Comet Shoemaker-Levy and 39×103 for P/deVico, the C2 parent scale-lengths were respectively 29×103 and 54×103 km. Such divergences could be interpreted in the frame of different scenarios of emission of cometary parents, either from a nucleus or from a volume source. The daughter scale-lengths for these comets were quite similar, namely: 306×103 and 318×103 km for CN and 69×103 and 66×103 km for C2. We determined the Afρ parameter for apertures of different radii. A Monte Carlo model of the dust coma was used to obtain the dust ejection velocity. It was of the order of 0.1 km s−1 for both comets. The power index of the distribution of the β-parameter of dust particles (ratio of light pressure to the solar gravitation) was of the order of 3 for C/Shoemaker-Levy and close to 2 for P/deVico. The dependence on heliocentric distance (rh) of the radical and dust production rates for P/deVico in the range of 0.7-1.0 AU was described by the power law function with a power index equal to: 5.55±0.14 for CN, 5.70±0.24 for C2 and 5.22±0.19 for dust. Relative abundances of the dynamically new Comet Shoemaker-Levy and short-period P/deVico were quite similar with an enhancement of C2 comparing with standard values taken from A'Hearn et al. (1995).  相似文献

The formation of cometary CN, C2 and C3 radicals is investigated in a photochemical reaction scheme. From an analysis of the observed brightness profiles of these radicals, it is shown that CN is formed as a primary product in the photolysis of its parent molecules, whereas C2 and C3 are formed via two-step photodissociation of their parents. We suggest that major parent of C2 is different species from those of CN and C3 on the basis of the difference of the variation with heliocentric distance of the sublimation rate of the parents of these radicals. Parent molecules and reaction schemes for the formation of these radicals are discussed.  相似文献

Emission fluxes of CN, C2 and C3 species observed in the coma of some comets are analysed in the framework of Haser model. CN, C2 and C3 production rates are determined using recently derived fluorescence efficiencies and dependence of CN, C2 and C3 production rates on the heliocentric distance is studied. Evidence for a burst type activity around January 15, 1974 in the post-perihelion period of comet Kohoutek (1973f) is observed.  相似文献

Barrierless reactions between unsaturated hydrocarbons and the ethynyl radical (C2H) can contribute to the growth of organic particulates in the haze-forming regions of Titan's atmosphere as well as in the gas giants and in the interstellar medium. We employed a combination of quantum chemistry and statistical rate theories to characterize reactions between ground state C2H and seven alkenes of the general structure R1R2CCR3R4 containing up to six carbons. The alkenes included ethene (C2H4); propene (C3H6); 1-butene, 2-butene, and isobutene (C4H8); trimethylethene (C5H10); and tetramethylethene (C6H12). Density functional theory calculations at the B3LYP/6-31 + G∗∗ level were used to characterize the adducts, isomers, products, and the intervening transition states for the addition-elimination reactions of all seven species. A multiple-well treatment was then employed to determine the outcome distributions for the range of temperatures and pressures relevant to Titan's atmosphere, the interstellar medium, and the outer atmospheres of the gas giants. Finally, trajectory calculations using an ROMP2 potential energy surface were used to calculate kinetic rates for the ethene + C2H reaction, where the agreement between the computed and measured values is very good. At low pressure and temperature, vinyl acetylene is a dominant product of several of the reactions, and all of the reactions yield at least one dominant product with both a double and a triple CC bond.  相似文献

We observed the products C4H5, C4H4, C3H3 and CH3 of the C(3P) + C3H6 reaction using product time-of-flight spectroscopy and selective photoionization. The identified species arise from the product channels C4H5 + H, C4H4 + 2H and C3H3 + CH3. Product isomers were identified via measurements of photoionization spectra and calculations of adiabatic ionization energy. Product C4H5 probably involves three isomers HCCCHCH3, H2CCCCH3 and H2CCCHCH2. In contrast, products C4H4 and C3H3 involve exclusively HCCCHCH2 and H2CCCH, respectively. Reaction mechanisms are unraveled with crossed-beam experiments and quantum-chemical calculations. The 3P carbon atom attacks the π orbital of propene (C3H6) to form a cyclic complex c-H2C(C)CHCH3 that rapidly opens the ring to form H2CCCHCH3 followed by decomposition to HCCCHCH3/H2CCCCH3/H2CCCHCH2 + H and H2CCCH + CH3; the corresponding branching ratios are 7:5:10:78 predicted with RRKM calculations at collision energy 4 kcal mol?1. Nascent C4H5 with enough internal energy further decomposes to HCCCHCH2 + H. Ratios of products C4H5, C4H4 and C3H3 are experimentally evaluated to be 17:8:75. This work provides a comprehensive look at product channels of the title reaction and gives implications for the formation of hydrocarbons in extra-terrestrial environments such as Titan and carbon-rich interstellar media. We suggest that the title reaction, hitherto excluded in any chemical networks, needs to be taken into account at least in the atmosphere of Titan and carbon-rich molecular clouds where rapid neutral–neutral reactions are dominant and carbon atoms and propene are abundant.  相似文献

The variations in production rates for Comet 46P/Wirtanen for the species H2O and the parents of C2 and CN are examined from the point of view of a variety of commonly used scale lengths. The calculations are carried out as a function of heliocentric distance. It is shown that, by using a common set of scale lengths, the results of various investigators can be brought into acceptable accord. The resulting production rates of H2O and the parents of C2 and CN versus heliocentric distance are recalculated and plotted versus the heliocentric distance rH. The curves show reasonable agreement with a slope of ∼rH−4. The water production rate near perihelion of 46P/Wirtanen is close to .  相似文献

We present latitudinally-resolved high-resolution (R = 37,000) pole-to-pole spectra of Jupiter in various narrow longitudinal ranges, in spectral intervals covering roughly half of the spectral range 2.86-3.53 μm. We have analyzed the data with the aid of synthetic spectra generated from a model jovian atmosphere that included lines of CH4, CH3D, NH3, C2H2, C2H6, PH3, and HCN, as well as clouds and haze. Numerous spectral features of many of these molecular species are present and are individually identified for the first time, as are many lines of and a few unidentified spectral features. In both polar regions the 2.86-3.10-μm continuum is more than 10 times weaker than in spectra at lower latitudes, implying that in this wavelength range the single-scattering albedos of polar haze particles are very low. In contrast, the 3.24-3.53 μm the weak polar and equatorial continua are of comparable intensity. We derive vertical distributions of NH3, C2H2 and C2H6, and find that the mixing ratios of NH3 and C2H6 show little variation between equatorial and polar regions. However, the mixing ratios of C2H2 in the northern and southern polar regions are ∼6 and ∼3 times, respectively, less than those in the equatorial regions. The derived mixing ratio curves of C2H2 and C2H6 extend up to the 10−6 bar level, a significantly higher altitude than most previous results in the literature. Further ground-based observations covering other longitudes are needed to test if these mixing ratios are representative values for the equatorial and polar regions.  相似文献

Three organic compounds (HC3N, C6H2, and C4N2) relevant of Titan's atmosphere have been studied within the framework of the SIPAT (Spectroscopie UV d'Intérêt Prébiologique dans l'Atmosphère de Titan) program. Since this facility is still unable to reach the very low temperatures (170 K) of Titan's high atmosphere, spectra have to be obtained at several absorption-cell temperatures, and the data extrapolated towards lower temperatures. Previously published HC3N and C6H2 absorption coefficient data are reviewed, while new spectroscopic data are presented on C4N2. Integrated intensity calculations over the vibrational bands are performed apart from the background continuum. Thus, only the band contrast is considered here. While, the temperature dependence of the hot-band integrated intensity follows a Boltzmann distribution, we have enhanced the fit through an empirical parametrisation to account for the observed temperature dependence of the C4N2 and HC3N absorption coefficients, and to extrapolate those data to the low temperature conditions of Titan's high atmosphere. Finally, we discuss the implications of the results to possible detection by remote sensing observations of these minor compounds in Titan's atmosphere.  相似文献

We have analyzed infrared spectra of Titan recorded by the Cassini Composite Infrared Spectrometer (CIRS) to measure the isotopic ratio 12C/13C in each of three chemical species in Titan's stratosphere: CH4, C2H2 and C2H6. This is the first measurement of 12C/13C in any C2 molecule on Titan, and the first measurement of 12CH4/13CH4 (non-deuterated) on Titan by remote sensing. Our spectra cover five widely-spaced latitudes, 65° S to 71° N and we have searched for both latitude variability of 12C/13C within a given species, and also for differences between the 12C/13C in the three gases. For CH4 alone, we find (1-σ), essentially in agreement with the 12CH4/13CH4 measured by the Huygens Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer instrument (GCMS) [Niemann, H.B., and 17 colleagues, 2005. Nature 438, 779-784]: 82.3±1.0, and also with measured values in H13CN and 13CH3D by CIRS at lower precision [Bézard, B., Nixon, C., Kleiner, I., Jennings, D., 2007. Icarus 191, 397-400; Vinatier, S., Bézard, B., Nixon, C., 2007. Icarus 191, 712-721]. For the C2 species, we find in C2H2 and 89.8±7.3 in C2H6, a possible trend of increasingly value with molecular mass, although these values are both compatible with the Huygens GCMS value to within error bars. There are no convincing trends in latitude. Combining all fifteen measurements, we obtain a value of , also compatible with GCMS. Therefore, the evidence is mounting that 12C/13C is some 8% lower on Titan than on the Earth (88.9, inorganic standard), and lower than typical for the outer planets (88±7 [Sada, P.V., McCabe, G.H., Bjoraker, G.L., Jennings, D.E., Reuter, D.C., 1996. Astrophys. J. 472, 903-907]). There is no current model for this enrichment, and we discuss several mechanisms that may be at work.  相似文献

Emission fluxes of CN, C2 and C3 carbon-bearing molecular species observed in the coma of comets Bennett (1969i 1970II), West (1975n 1976VI), P Halley (1982i), Hartley-Good (19851) and Bradfield (1987s) are analysed in the framework of Haser model. CN, C2 and C3 production rates are determined using recently derived fluorescence efficiencies. The dependence of CN, C2 and C3 production rates on the heliocentric distance and the possible correlations among these radicals is studied and briefly discussed.  相似文献

Limb spectra recorded by the Composite InfraRed Spectrometer (CIRS) on Cassini provide information on abundance vertical profiles of C2H2, C2H4, C2H6, CH3C2H, C3H8, C4H2, C6H6 and HCN, along with the temperature profiles in Titan's atmosphere. We analyzed two sets of spectra, one at 15° S (Tb flyby) and the other one at 80° N (T3 flyby). The spectral range 600-1400 cm−1, recorded at a resolution of 0.5 cm−1, was used to determine molecular abundances and temperatures in the stratosphere in the altitude range 100-460 km for Tb and 170-495 km for T3. Both temperature profiles show a well defined stratopause, at around 310 km (0.07 mbar) and 183 K at 13° S, and 380 km (0.01 mbar) with 207 K at 80° N. Near the north pole, stratospheric temperatures are colder and mesospheric temperatures are warmer than near the equator. C2H2, C2H6, C3H8 and HCN display vertical mixing ratio profiles that increase with height at 15° S and 80° N, consistent with their formation in the upper atmosphere, diffusion downwards and condensation in the lower stratosphere, as expected from photochemical models. The CH3C2H and C4H2 mixing ratios also increase with height at 15° S. But near the north pole, their profiles present an unexpected minimum around 300 km, observed for the first time thanks to the high vertical resolution of the CIRS limb data. C2H4 is the only molecule having a vertical abundance profile that decreases with height at 15° S. At 80° N, it also displays a minimum of its mixing ratio around the 0.1-mbar level. For C6H6, an upper limit of 1.1 ppb (in the 0.3-10 mbar range) is derived at 15° S, whereas a constant mixing ratio profile of is inferred near the north pole. At 15° S, the vertical profile of HCN exhibits a steeper gradient than other molecules, which suggests that a sink for this molecule exists in the stratosphere, possibly due to haze formation. All molecules display a more or less pronounced enrichment towards the north pole, probably due, in part, to subsidence of air at the north (winter) pole that brings air enriched in photochemical compounds from the upper atmosphere to lower levels.  相似文献

We report photochemical studies of thin cryogenic ice films composed of N2, CH4 and CO in ratios analogous to those on the surfaces of Neptune’s largest satellite, Triton, and on Pluto. Experiments were performed using a hydrogen discharge lamp, which provides an intense source of ultraviolet light to simulate the sunlight-induced photochemistry on these icy bodies. Characterization via infrared spectroscopy showed that C2H6 and C2H2, and HCO are formed by the dissociation of CH4 into H, CH2 and CH3 and the subsequent reaction of these radicals within the ice. Other radical species, such as C2, , CN, and CNN, are observed in the visible and ultraviolet regions of the spectrum. These species imply a rich chemistry based on formation of radicals from methane and their subsequent reaction with the N2 matrix. We discuss the implications of the formation of these radicals for the chemical evolution of Triton and Pluto. Ultimately, this work suggests that , CN, HCO, and CNN may be found in significant quantities on the surfaces of Triton and Pluto and that new observations of these objects in the appropriate wavelength regions are warranted.  相似文献

Jupiter exhibits bright H+3 auroral arcs at 3-4 microns that cool the hot (>1000 K) ionosphere above the ∼10−7 bar level through the infrared bands of this trace constituent. Below the 10−7 bar level significant cooling proceeds through infrared active bands of CH4, C2H2, and C2H6. We report the discovery of 3-micron line emission from these hydrocarbon species in spectra of the jovian south polar region obtained on April 18 and 20, 2006 (UT) with CGS4 on the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope. Estimated cooling rates through these molecules are 7.5×10−3, 1.4×10−3, and , respectively, for a total nearly half that of H+3. We derive a temperature of 450 ± 50 K in the 10−7-10−5 bar region from the C2H2 lines.  相似文献

Medium-resolution (1.5-2.5 Å) spectrum has been obtained for SC star GP Ori in a wide range of wavelengths from 3730 to 6250 Å. It is characterised mainly by strong atomic lines, as well as moderately strong bands of the CN violet system and CH (0,0) and (0,1) bands at 4315 and 4890 Å. Weak bands of C2, C3, and ZrO molecules are observed, however, no evidence is found for the presence of either SiC2 (Merrill-Sanford bands) or YO. The most prominent atomic lines along with the NaID12 are those of CaII (K,H), CaI at 4227 Å, SrI at 4607 Å, SrII at 4077 and 4215 Å, and BaII at 4554 Å. H seems to be in emission.  相似文献

A summary is presented of our spectroscopic survey of comets extending for roughly 19 years from 1985 to 2004 comprising data for 92 comets of which 50 showed good emissions. All data were re-analyzed using consistent reduction techniques. Our observations of comets over several apparitions and comets observed over an extended period indicate no major changes in compositional classification. To our regret, no major unidentified cometary features were found in our surveyed spectral region of 5200-10400 Å. Absolute production rates for the dominant parent molecule H2O and the daughter species C2, NH2 and CN are determined within the limits of the Haser model as are values for the dust continuum, Afρ. From these data, production rate ratios are calculated for C2/H2O, NH2/H2O, CN/H2O and Afρ/H2O. Excluding the odd Comets Yanaka (1988r), 43P/Wolf-Harrington and 19P/Borrelly, with unusual spectra, our set of comets exhibited relatively uniform composition. Detailed analyses of our data resulted in four taxonomic classes:
-
Comets of typical composition (∼70%); exhibiting typical ratios with respect to water of C2, NH2, and CN.
-
Tempel 1 type (∼22%); having a deficiency in C2 but normal NH2 abundance.
-
G-Z type (∼6%); having both low C2 and NH2 ratios.
-
The unusual object Yanaka (1988r) (∼2%?); no detectable C2 or CN emission but normal NH2.
It is uncertain whether there is a clear separation between the comets of typical composition and those with C2 depletion, or whether the latter consists of a group showing a continuum of decreasing C2/CN ratios. Our spectroscopic investigations result in a visual record of the various compositional classes, which are illustrated in a number of figures. Production rate comparisons with the comet photometry program of Schleicher and A'Hearn [A'Hearn, M.F., and 4 colleagues, 1995. Icarus 118, 223-270] for 13 comets in common yielded good agreement once the different scale lengths are taken into account. An investigation into the possible origin of our compositional groups with respect to dynamical families of comets shows that the Halley family exhibits essentially no C2 depletion. These objects were presumably formed in the region of Saturn and Uranus and scattered into the Oort cloud. Comets formed in the space near Neptune, responsible for the scattered Kuiper Belt show a mixture of “typical” and C2 depleted objects, while we associate comets formed in-situ in the classical Kuiper belt with our C2 depleted group.  相似文献

We present new two- and four-dimensional potential energy surfaces for the KCl(\(\mbox{X}^{1} \varSigma ^{+}\))-He and KCl(\(\mbox{X}^{1} \varSigma ^{+}\))-para-H2 systems calculated with the internuclear distances of KCl and H2 frozen at their experimental minimum energy. The CCSD(T) level of theory with aug-cc-pVQZ/AQZP basis sets is used. The potential surfaces present well depths of about \(78~\mbox{cm}^{-1}\) and \(235~\mbox{cm}^{-1}\) below the dissociation limit of the above interacting systems respectively. With these potential surfaces, cross sections are obtained in the close coupling scheme and rate coefficients inferred by averaging the cross sections over a Maxwell-Boltzmann velocity distribution for temperature below 50 K. A propensity towards \(\Delta J = 1\) transitions is observed.  相似文献

Emission fluxes of CN, G2 and C3 carbon-bearing molecular species observed in the spectra of the nuclear fragment A and D of comet West (1976VI) are analysed in the framework of Haser's two-component model with radial outflow symmetry. Gas production rates have been derived and their ratios obtained. We find these vary as Q r n (where 1.0r2.6 is the heliocentric distance in AU) with photometric parametern = -4.11 (CN), -2.68 (C2), -1.89 (C3) andQ x /Q y r n withn = 2.22 (C3/CN), 1.42 (C2/CN), -0.79 (C2/C3). The gas-to-dust ratio, dust production rates in arbitrary units, total number of dust particles in the field of view and an effective radius Reff 2.0 km for the principal nuclear fragmentA is also estimated.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of the spectral observations of comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) acquired with the Zeiss-600 telescope of the Andrushevka astronomical observatory in May 2004. The spectrum of the comet was obtained in the range of 3600–8200 Å. We identified a number of emission features in the spectrum of comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT). The emission bands of C2, C3, CN, CH, NH2, H2O+ were detected in the spectrum of the comet, and their intensities were determined. The ratios of gas-production rates Q(C2)/Q(CN) = 0.23, Q(C3)/Q(CN) = ?0.79, and Q(NH2)/Q(CN) = ?0.029 were determined with the Haser model.  相似文献

We present a preliminary analysis of medium resolution optical spectra of comet C/2000 WM1 (LINEAR) obtained on 22 November 2001. Theemission lines of the molecules C2, C3, CN, NH2,H2O+ and presumably CO (Asundi and triplet bands) and C2 -were identified in these spectra. By analysing the brightnessdistributions of the C2, C3, CN emission lines along theslit of the spectrograph we determined some physical parameters of theseneutrals, such as their lifetimes and expansion velocities inthe coma. The Franck–Condon factors for the CO Asundi bands and C2 - bands were calculated using a Morse potential model.  相似文献

Using TEXES, the Texas Echelon cross Echelle Spectrograph, mounted on the Gemini North 8-m telescope we have mapped the spatial variation of H2, CH4, C2H2 and C2H6 thermal-infrared emission of Neptune. These high-spectral-resolution, spatially resolved, thermal-infrared observations of Neptune offer a unique glimpse into the state of Neptune’s stratosphere in October 2007, LS = 275.4° just past Neptune’s southern summer solstice (LS = 270°). We use observations of the S(1) pure rotational line of molecular hydrogen and a portion of the ν4 band of methane to retrieve detailed information on Neptune’s stratospheric vertical and meridional thermal structure. We find global-average temperatures of 163.8 ± 0.8, 155.0 ± 0.9, and 123.8 ± 0.8 K at the 7.0 × 10−3-, 0.12-, and 2.1-mbar levels with no meridional variations within the errors. We then use the inferred temperatures to model the emission of C2H2 and C2H6 in order to derive stratospheric volume mixing ratios (hence forth, VMR) as a function of pressure and latitude. There is a subtle meridional variation of the C2H2 VMR at the 0.5-mbar level with the peak abundance found at −28° latitude, falling off to the north and south. However, the observations are consistent within error to a meridionally constant C2H2 VMR of at 0.5 mbar. We find that the VMR of C2H6 at 1-mbar peaks at the equator and falls by a factor of 1.6 at −70° latitude. However, a meridionally constant VMR of at the 1-mbar level for C2H6 is also statistically consistent with the retrievals. Temperature predictions from a radiative-seasonal climate model of Neptune that assumes the hydrocarbon abundances inferred in this paper are lower than the measured temperatures by 40 K at 7 × 10−3 mbar, 30 K at 0.12 mbar and 25 K at 2.1 mbar. The radiative-seasonal model also predicts meridional temperature variations on the order of 10 K from equator to pole, which are not observed. Assuming higher stratospheric CH4 abundance at the equator relative to the south pole would bring the meridional trends of the inferred temperatures and radiative-seasonal model into closer agreement. We have also retrieved observations of C2H4 emission from Neptune’s stratosphere using TEXES on the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) in June 2003, LS = 266°. Using the observations from the middle of the planet and an average of the middle three latitude temperature profiles from the 2007 observations (9.5° of LS later, the seasonal equivalent of 9.5 Earth days within Earth’s seasonal cycle), we infer a C2H4 VMR of at 1.5 × 10−3 mbar, a value that is 3.25 times that predicted by global-average photochemical models.  相似文献
