Continental tholeiites cannot be identified using the Ti-Y-Zr diagram. Two-hundred and thirteen analyses from 16 localities representing 7 continental tholeiitic provinces all plot outside the within-plate basalt field of this diagram.Analyses representing about 50% of the population plot in the ocean-floor basalt field, the rest plots in the calc-alkali basalt field. Therefore problems might arise when attempts are made to classify ancient tectonomagmatic environments using the Ti-Y-Zr diagram.  相似文献

This paper analyses the meeting between the international petroleum industry and two local communities. The building of an oil terminal in a local community is both a major event, and a generator of processes on the local level. Three different angles is used to enlighten these processes; categorised as as place, people and mind. The place analysis consentrates on the effects on population and workforce development, the people analysis look at the institutional and planning processes, and the mind analysis the effects on the feeling of local identification. Summary The discipline of geography, both ancient and new, is periodically subject to centrifugal tendencies, threatening its integrity and cohesion as a subject. From very different traditions, this question of philosophical unity has lain at the heart of many controversies and re-examinations of the value and place of geography in the Soviet Union and the United States in recent years, both as an academic subject and with respect to its practical applicability. This article attempts a comparative and personal view of what has happened to geography, mainly over the last quarter of a century, in these two countries, focussed on this unity question.  相似文献

Minitope coral islands represent one third of the islands located in the tropical Indo-Pacific. Subsistence farming and extensive agriculture dominate the traditional structure of income. As the lack of natural resources, infrastructure and capital restrict the developmental changes, the islands' natural environment has been utilized as economic potential. Planning and realization of land use systems introduced have, however, often been based on an insufficient data basis and have often inadequately considered the consequences of human impacts on the natural environment and its controlling factors. The result was environmental degradation and ecological destruction, affecting also the population's socioeconomic situation and in some cases rendering alternative land use impossible. Therefore, the long-term utilization of coral islands and, hence, the economic development of those countries require a specific development strategy. Based on the environmental and socioeconomic consequences of touristic utilization of coral islands in the Maldivian Archipelago, the model for a sustainable development strategy and its aims are derived, and the objectives, the conceptual structure, and the way of establishing them organizationally and administratively are presented.  相似文献

A three-mode principal components method allows visualization of the structural or taxonomic relationships within three-way data tables. The fundamental model includes three sets of eigenvectors and a core matrix relating the principal components of each mode. Formal relationships between the method and the usual principal components formulation allow calculation of loadings and scores for each mode; taken with the core matrix, these provide a number of points of view in graphical analysis of three-mode data. The model compares favorably with alternative formulations in terms of simplicity of computation, generality, and symmetry of operation among the modes. This paper analyzes the history and consequences of two large scale hydroelectric projects in Amazonian Brazil. The argument makes three points. First, environmental impacts of such projects are inseparable from issues of human rights, regional economic development, and social justice. The implication of this view is that another development, something quite different from the industrial ideal of modernization, is necessary in Amazonia and elsewere.Second, analytical fragmentation of problems into specialist concerns with such topics as ecology (often only meaning wildlife), environment (often concerned only with soil erosion and regional climate), and human rights (sometimes only focusing on the rights of indigenous people, not small farmer migrants tempted to settle in such areas) is mirrored by a fragmented, and therefore weak, resistance to hydroelectric development. The paper traces the early signs of a more unified resistance movement capable of overcoming these special interests and fragmentation.Third, the paper provides data on an economic monstrosity. Olivines which cool under oxidizing conditions exsolve iron oxides at high temperature, and at low temperatures break down to essentially chloritic materials. Olivines which cool under non-oxidizing conditions alter at intermediate temperatures to complex assemblages of chlorite and interstratified phyllosilicates containing a smectite. Alteration under oxidizing conditions at low temperature, probably below 140° C, produces iddingsite, an orientated assemblage of goethite and interstratified phyllosilicates also containing a smectite.Post-deuteric alteration extends or initiates the breakdown of olivine to phyllosilicate mixtures often resulting in widespread movement of materials through the flow. Post-deuteric alteration of iddingsite produces strongly pleochroic, highly ordered varieties which eventually break down to green phyllosilicate assemblages.Weathering of olivine may produce orientated assemblages similar to deuteric forms of iddingsite. Weathering of green alteration products results in oxidation and the liberation of discrete iron hydroxides.Alteration in all cases requires exchange of material between interstitial components and olivine. During deuteric alteration, plagioclase and pyroxene are usually unaffected.  相似文献

Iron- and vanadium-bearing kyanites have been synthesized at 900 and 1100° C/20 kb in a piston-cylinder apparatus using Mn2O3/Mn3O4- and MnO/Mn-mixtures, respectively, as oxygen buffers. Solid solubility on the pseudobinary section Al2SiO5-Fe2SiO5(-V2SiO5) of the system Al2O3-Fe2O3(V2O3)-SiO2 extends up to 6.5 mole% (14mole %) of the theoretical end member FeSiO5(V2SiO5) at 900°C/20 kb. For bulk compositions with higher Fe2SiO5 (V2SiO5) contents the corundum type phases M2O3(M = Fe3+, V3+) are found to coexist with the Fe3+(V3+)-saturated kyanite solid solution plus quartz. The extent of solid solubility on the join Al2SiO5-Fe2SiO5 at 1 100°C was not found to be significantly higher than at 900° C. Microprobe analyses of iron bearing kyanites gave no significant indication of ternary solid solubility in these mixed crystals. Lattice constants a 0, b 0, c 0, and V0 of the kyanite solid solutions increase with increasing Fe2SiO5- and V2SiO5-contents proportionally to the ionic radii of Fe3+ and V3+, respectively, the triclinic angles ,, remain constant. Iron kyanites are light yellowish-green, vanadium kyanites are light green. Iron kyanites, (Al1.87 Fe 0.13 3+ )SiO5, were obtained as crystals up to 700 m in length.  相似文献

ZusammenfassungMöglichkeiten und Grenzen des Base Friction Konzepts Der vorliegende Beitrag befaßt sich mit einer von Goodman eingeführten neuen Technologie für zweidimensionale Modellversuche in der Felsmechanik. Bei diesen Modellen sollen die im Prototyp durch die Gravitation erzeugten Körperkräfte durch Reibungskräfte simuliert werden, die dieselbe Richtung wie die Erdbeschleunigung besitzen müssen und die entstehen, wenn das zweidimensionale Modell in einer horizontalen Ebene aufgebaut und zwischen dem Modell und der horizontalen Basis eine entsprechende Relativbewegung erzwungen wird.Nach einem kurzen Überblick über die einschlägige Literatur wird anhand eines Stabilitätsdiagramms für einen Einzelkörper an der Schiefen Ebene untersucht, ob die im geklüfteten Fels auftretenden Bruchmechanismen Gleiten, Kippen und Kippen bei gleichzeitigem Gleiten im Base Friction Modell exakt modellierbar sind.Aus dieser Untersuchung ergibt sich, daß in den Bereichen Kippen und Gleiten bezüglich der Kinetik mit Schwerkraftmodellen übereinstimmende Ergebnisse zu erzielen sind. Im Bereich Kippen bei gleichzeitigem Gleiten treten dagegen wesentliche Abweichungen auf, weil die Simulation der Schwerkraft durch Reibungskräfte nicht vollständig gelingt. Fälle, bei denen Aussagen über Geschwindigkeits-und Beschleunigungsverhältnisse im Prototyp gemacht werden sollen, können aus demselben Grund mit einem Base Friction Modell nicht untersucht werden.Nach einer ausführlichen Kritik wird dann der Schluß gezogen, daß das Base Friction Modell zwar als Entwurfshilfsmittel ungeeignet ist, daß es aber als Methode für die Grundlagenforschung in der Felsmechanik mit Aussicht auf Erfolg eingesetzt werden kann.
SummaryPossibilities and Limitations of the Base Friction Model The paper deals with a new technology for two-dimensional model tests in rock mechanics introduced by Goodman. In this model gravity is simulated by base friction forces. Their direction is to be that of gravity. The two-dimensional model is placed on a horizontal base. A movement of this base relative to the model produce frictional forces which model gravity.First a single model element placed on an inclined plane is analysed resulting in a stability diagram. The purpose of the subsequent analysis is to assess whether the mechanisms of failure being investigated, i. e. sliding, toppling, and toppling combined with sliding, are adequately reproduced by the base friction model.The specific mechanisms toppling and sliding produce kineticly valid results. Considerable errors are to be expected for toppling combined with sliding, because of the specific base friction feature. Mechanisms including velocity and acceleration cannot be modeled by base friction.Finally the limitations of the base friction model as a design tool and instrument for rock mechanics research are discussed.

RésuméPossibilités et limites du base friction model Le présent article traite d'une nouvelle technologie des essais à deux dimensions, introduite par Goodman, sur la mécanique des roches. Par cette technologie les forces en prototype, produites par la gravitation, doivent être remplacées par des forces de frottement. Leur direction doit être la même que celle de la gravitation. Le modèle à deux dimensions est posé sur un plan horizontal. Le mouvement relatif du modèle contre la base horizontale produit des forces de frottement, qui modèlent la gravitation.A l'aide d'un diagramme de stabilité pour un élément isolé sur un plan incliné, on fait des analyses pour savoir si les états de mouvement aparaissant à la rupture de la roche, c'est-à-dire le fait de glisser, basculer, et basculer en même temps que glisser, peuvent être modelés exactement avec le base friction model.Les mécanismes glisser et basculer produisent des résultats qui sont cinétiquement réels. Des fautes remarquables doivent être attendues pour le fait de basculer en même temps que glisser à cause de la mécanique spécifique du modèle. A modeler des vitesses et des accélérations le modèle n'est pas propre.En conclusion on expose une critique détaillée pour savoir jusqu'à quel point cette méthode peut servir comme moyen de dimensionnement dans la pratique et comme instrument pour la recherche en mécanique des roches.

Read (1934b) described the mineralogy and regional setting of spectacularly zoned ultrabasic bodies occurring in Unst, Shetland. Chemical and phase compositional data are presented here for a selection of samples taken from each of the several monomineralic zones.The phase sequence and elemental distribution are discussed in some detail since both are complicated. It is shown that virtually all distributional features may be explained on the basis of a diffusion model: transport most probably having occurred via aqueous solutions in pore space.The present configurations represent frozen reaction intermediates. Controls upon the nature and extent of reaction are analysed. Certain features may be explained on the basis of local equilibrium thermodynamics. These arguments, however, are inadequate. Fairly simple kinetic considerations lead to a much more satisfactory analysis.Some of the problems associated with concepts of element mobility are discussed briefly.  相似文献

Based on the maximum entropy concept with the number of bins (class intervals), N, maximized in terms of residual errors in sampling of the system, the residual entropy matrix (REM), which is intrinsically positive definite, is sampled uniformly at N equal intervals in entropy space. The mandatory constraint of positivity shows that the finitely sampled REM then provides estimates on the magnitudes of missing components of the autocorrelation sequence describing REM. If the mandatory constraint is relaxed to its limit, the resulting prediction for REM is identical to Burg's (1967) maximum entropy algorithm. The advantages are that assessments can be made: (i) whether the missing components are known accurately enough that no further measurements are needed; (ii) the N equal intervals of the entropy measure are sufficient to provide resolution on the REM for each and every sample; or (iii) whether finer interval resolution is needed to extract information for a particular sample.  相似文献

The cultivation of early vegetables has altered the agrarian regions of the Mediterranean coast. Even if this restructuring process has already been completed in many countries, it can still be observed in Turkey. The development on the S coast of Turkey, where in 1985 a total of 113 villages with winter vegetable cultivation were studied, serves as an example. Hot-house cultivation was introduced here in glass greenhouses near Antalya around 1940 and spread only slowly along the S coast. An accelerated increase in the land used for early season vegetables was triggered off by the technical innovation of under-plastic cultivation (plastic greenhouses, plastic tunnels) around 1965. The partial innovations glass greenhouse — plastic greenhouse — plastic tunnel were, because of their different capital intensity, adopted by different agrarian social groups. Today glass greenhouse-, plastic greenhouse-and plastic tunnel-regions have formed which have recently undergone a considerable degree of intermingling. The diffusion process of early vegetables in total, like that of the partial innovations, did not happen continuously, rather the changes were carried erratically over wide distances; the process of intermingling also showed such a form of spreading. A sociopsychological motive can be offered as a basis for this type of spreading, for which the term spasmodic diffusion is suggested: the comparatively high degree of isolation of the Turkish village communities from the outside world and their strong orientation inwards lead inevitably to isolation of innovations. Derived from this is the thesis that other spontaneous innovations in similarly structured agrarian regions also always spread erratically (spasmodic).  相似文献

Historically, the characterization of the internal energy of a simple gas is based on free expansion experiments and imprecise use of the word function, which is rigorously defined in mathematics. Univariable equations of state show that the internal energy of simple monatomic, diatomic, and polyatomic gases can be expressed as a function of temperature only. However, multivariable equations of state derived from composite functions confirm that the internal energy of these gases can in each situation also be expressed as a function of pressure and volume only. It is essential that the mathematical definition of the word function be adhered to in science because it is fundamental for the formulation of the calculus, a mathematical tool essential for solving a variety of thermodynamics problems.  相似文献

Stochastic models of an ideal, a degenerate ideal granite, and two models for metasomatically transformed granites have been compared with sequences of grains observed in granitic rocks of Yosemite Valley, California. The Pliocene and Quaternary Patagonian alkali basalts of southernmost South America can be divided into two groups. The cratonic basalts erupted in areas of Cenozoic plateau volcanism and continental sedimentation and show considerable variation in 87Sr/86Sr (0.70316 to 0.70512), 143Nd/144Nd (Nd) and 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb, and 208Pb/204Pb ratios (18.26 to 19.38, 15.53 to 15.68, and 38.30 to 39.23, respectively). These isotopic values are within the range of oceanic island basalts, as are the Ba/La, Ba/Nb, La/Nb, K/Rb, and Cs/Rb ratios of the cratonic basalts. In contrast, the transitional basalts, erupted along the western edge of the outcrop belt of the Pliocene and Quaternary plateau lavas in areas that were the locus of earlier Cenozoic Andean orogenic arc colcanism, have a much more restricted range of isotopic composition which can be approximated by 87Sr/86Sr=0.7039±0.0004, Nd, 206Pb/204Pb=18.60±0.08, 207Pb/204Pb=15.60±0.01, and 208Pb/204Pb=38.50±0.10. These isotopic values are similar to those of Andean orogenic are basalts and, compared to the cratonic basalts, are displaced to higher 87Sr/86Sr at a given 143Nd/144Nd and to higher 207Pb/204Pb at a given 208Pb/204Pb. The transitional basalts also have Ba/La, Ba/Nb, La/Nb, and Cs/Rb ratios higher than the cratonic and oceanic island basalts, although not as high as Andean orogenic are basalts. In contrast to the radiogenic isotopes, 18O values for both groups of the Patagonian alkali basalts are indistinguishable and are more restricted than the range reported for Andean orogenic are basalts. Whole rock 18O values calculated from mineral separates for both groups range from 5.3 to 6.5, while measured whole rock 18O values range from 5.1 to 7.8. The trace element and isotopic data suggest that decreasing degrees of partial melting in association with lessened significance of subducted slabderived components are fundamental factors in the west to east transition from arc to back-arc volcanism in southern South America. The cratonic basalts do not contain the slab-derived components that impart the higher Ba/La, Ba/Nb, La/Nb, Cs/Rb, 87Sr/86Sr at a given 143Nd/144Nd, 207Pb/204Pb at a given 208Pb/204Pb, and 18O to Andean orogenic arc basalts. Instead, these basalts are formed by relatively low degrees of partial melting of heterogeneous lower continental lithosphere and/or asthenosphere, probably due to thermal and mechanical pertubation of the mantle in response to subduction of oceanic lithosphere below the western margin of the continent. The transitional basalts do contain components added to their source region by either (1) active input of slab-derived components in amounts smaller than the contribution to the mantle below the arc and/or with lower Ba/La, Ba/Nb, La/Nb, and Cs/Rb ratios than below the arc due to progressive downdip dehydration of the subducted slab; or (2) subarc source region contamination processes which affected the mantle source of the transitional basalts earlier in the Cenozoic.  相似文献

The destination-choice and travel behaviour of urban Arab-Israelis from Haifa, and rural Arab-Israelis from the village of Ibillin, are compared. The study examines the role of tradition, socio-economic background and geographical location of residence, in designing the two communities' destination-choice and travel behaviour. The results show that while socio-economic characteristics and life in a city or in a village do not differentiate between the two communities, religious affiliation does play a major role in determining the destination-choice and tourist behaviour of the two sub-communities. It was also found that the predominant factors that shape Arab-Israelis' tourist behaviour are the familiarity factors and that social rather than personal constraints play a major role in deciding which tourist destination is chosen. Policy oriented conclusions are presented in the light of these findings.  相似文献

Summary A conspicuous feature of arendalites is an unusually low content of K, which can be contrasted to a normal K content in surrounding gneisses, migmatites and related granitic rocks. This feature could be explained by the extraction of granitophile elements by partial melting in the deep crust, but it is suggested that the lack of strong tectonic deformation and the close correlation of the major-element chemical composition of acid arendalites with that of the Norwegian Precambrian rocks requires another explanation, namely a highly selective process controlling the migration of K.The Tromöy rocks are polymetamorphic. Evidence of a post-or late-kinematic event of lower grade is given mainly by the mobilization of limited K-rich masses and by the structural state of the alkali-feldspar in the formation surrounding the arendalitic complex.

Zusammenfassung Ein hervorstechendes Kennzeichen der Arendalite ist ihr ungewöhnlich niedriger Kaligehalt, der einem normalen Kaligehalt der sie umgebenden Gneise, Migmatite und verwandter granitischer Gesteine gegenübergestellt werden kann. Die Entziehung granitophiler Elemente bei der teilweisen Aufschmelzung in der tiefen Kruste könnte als Erklärung fur dieses Charakteristikum dienen; das Fehlen starker tektonischer Deformationen und die starke Korrelation der Hauptelemente in den sauren Arendaliten und den präkambrischen Gesteinen von Norwegen verlangen jedoch eine andere Erklärung, nämlich einen sehr selektiven Prozeß, welcher die Kaliwanderung regelt.Die Gesteine von Tromöy sind polymetamorph. Beweise für ein post-oder spätkinematisches Ereignis niedrigeren Metamorphosegrades liefern vor allem die Mobilisierung lokaler K-reicher Massen und der Ordnungszustand der Alkalifeldspäte, die sich in der den arendalitischen Komplex umgebenden Formation befinden.

The term environment has been used in various and inconsistent ways by scientists from many disciplines and can frequently be regarded as an empty formula. The author argues that this term has an ascertained meaning only within the concept of ecology. Therefore, any attempt to use the relative term environment in an absolute way and apart from this context must necessarily lead to its hypostatization, giving it the character of an entity of its own. The different aspects of the ecology concept — here called dimensions — should rather be defined according to the specific approaches of particular empirical studies. The paper briefly discusses the meaning of those dimensions which are interrelated and form a multidimensional space. Depending on the position of a particular approach within this multidimensional concept, a specific, ontologically neutral definition of environment may be developed, whose meaning (in accordance with the scale of reflections) can now be specified.This text is the enlarged and altered version of a lecture given on 1979-08-27 at the Third Vienna International Meeting on Human Ecology (Vienna, 1979-08-27–1979-08-31).  相似文献
