Intensive photometric and spectral observations of the variable star V2551 Cyg are presented. The light curve shape reveals that the target is a pulsating star, contrary to its previous classification as an eclipsing binary. The period and amplitude of the light curve, the amplitudes of color changes and the radial velocity curve of V2551 Cyg are similar to those of a high-amplitude δ Scuti variable. The target seems to pulsate with the fundamental mode. However, V2551 Cyg exhibits several important peculiarities:(i) the decreasing branch of its light curve is steeper than the increasing one;(ii) the radial velocity curve has a flat section in the phase range 0.7–1.2 and short increase of the negative radial velocity at phase 0.7;(iii) the rotational velocity is quite big for a HADS star;(iv) the Fourier coefficients of V2551 Cyg are quite different from those of HADS stars. The target classification is difficult due to these peculiarities.  相似文献

G328 = A65 = L3314 (V = 13.83, B-V = 1.91) is a field star in the direction of the globular cluster M4. If we take E(B - V) = 0.40, then its (B - V)0 = 1.51, corresponding to a spectral type of K5III if it is a giant star; or of dM2 if it is a dwarf. Observations at both the MSSSO and Yunnan Observatory have shown that G328 is a new variable with peak to peak amplitude - 0.05 mag in V. While it is not unusual for so red a star to be a variable, special attention must be paid to its short period of about one day. If the variability is due to pulsation, the spectral type and luminosity as well as effective temperature should be determined in order to compare it with Xiong's theory.  相似文献

A model for contact binary systems is presented, which incorporates the following special features: a) The energy exchange between the components is based on the understand-ing that the energy exchange is due to the release of potential, kinetic and thermal energies of the exchanged mass. b) A special form of mass and angular momentum loss occurring in contact binaries is losses via the outer Lagrangian point. c) The effects of spin, orbital rota-tion and tidal action on the stellar structure as well as the effect of meridian circulation on the mixing of the chemical elements are considered. d) The model is valid not only for low-mass contact binaries but also for high-mass contact binaries. For illustration, we used the model to trace the evolution of a massive binary system consisting of one 12M and one 5M star. The result shows that the start and end of the contact stage fall within the semi-detached phase during which the primary continually transfers mass to the secondary. The time span of the contact stage is short and the mass transfer rate is very large. Therefore, the contact stage can be regarded as a special part of the semi-detached phase with a large mass transfer rate. Both mass loss through the outer Lagrangian point and oscillation between contact and semi-contact states can occur during the contact phase, and the effective temperatures of the primary and the secondary are almost equal.  相似文献

W UMi is a near contact, semi-detached, double-lined eclipsing binary star with an orbital period of 1.7 d. Simultaneous analysis of new BV R multi-color light curves and radial velocity data yields the main astrophysical parameters of the binary and its component stars. We determined mass and radius to be M_1 = 3.22 ± 0.08 M_⊙, R_1 = 3.63 ± 0.04 R_⊙ for the primary star and M_2 = 1.44 ± 0.05 M_⊙,R_2 = 3.09 ± 0.03 R_⊙ for the secondary star. Based on analysis of mid-eclipse times, variation in the orbital period is represented by a cyclic term and a downward parabola. Mass loss from the system is suggested for a secular decrease(-0.02 s yr~(-1)) in the period. Both the mechanisms of a hypothetical tertiary star orbiting around W UMi and the surface magnetic activity of the less massive cooler companion were used to interpret periodic changes. Observational parameters were found to be consistent with binary stellar evolution models produced in the non-conservative approach of MESA at a higher metallicity than the Sun and an age of about 400 Myr for the system. Evidence that the system is rich in metal was obtained from spectral and kinematic analysis as well as evolution models. W UMi, a high mass ratio system compared to classical semi-detached binaries, is an important example since it is estimated from binary evolutionary models that the system may reach its contact phase in a short time interval.  相似文献

The emerging massive binary system associated with AFGL 961 signifies the latest generation of massive star and cluster formation in the Rosette Molecular Complex. We present the detection of a compact cluster of dusty cores toward the AFGL 961 region based on continuum imaging at 1.3 mm by the Submillimeter Array. The binary components of AFGL 961 are associated with the most intensive millimeter emission cores or envelopes, confirming that they are indeed in an early stage of evolution. The other massive cores, however, are found to congregate in the close vicinity of the central high-mass protostellar binary. They have no apparent infrared counterparts and are, in particular, well aligned transverse to the bipolar molecular outflows originating from AFGL 961. This provides evidence for a likely triggered origin of the massive cores. All 40 individual cores with masses ranging between 0.6 and 15 M⊙ were detected above a 3 σ level of 3.6 mJy beam-1 (or0.4 M⊙ ), based on which we derive a total core mass of 107 M⊙ in the AFGL 961 region. As compared to the stellar initial mass function, a shallow slope of 1.8 is, however, derived from the best fit to the mass spectrum of the millimeter cores with a prestellar and/or protostellar origin. The flatter core mass distribution in the AFGL 961 region is attributed here to dynamic perturbations from the massive molecular outflows that originated from the massive protostellar binary, which may have altered the otherwise more quiescent conditions of core or star formation, enhanced the formation of more massive cores and, as a result, influenced the core mass distribution in its close vicinity.  相似文献

The Binary star DataBase(BDB, http://bdb.inasan.ru) combines data from catalogs of binary and multiple stars of all observational types. There is a number of ways for variable stars to form or to be a part of binary or multiple systems. We describe how such stars are represented in the database.  相似文献

We carry out a re-analysis of the photometric data in R_cI_c bands which were taken during the Nainital Microlensing Survey from 1998 to 2002 with the aim to detect gravitational microlensing events in the direction of M31. Here, we do photometric analysis of a faint W UMa binary CSS_J004259.3 +410629 identified in the target field. The orbital period of this star is found to be 0.266402±0.000018 d.The photometric mass ratio, q,is found to be 0.28 ± 0.01. The photometric light curves are investigated using the Wilson-Devinney(WD) code and absolute parameters are determined using empirical relations which provide masses and radii of the binary as M_1 = 1.19 ± 0.09 M_☉,M_2 = 0.33 ± 0.02 M_⊙ and R_1=1.02±0.04 R_⊙,R_2 = 0.58 ±0.08 R_⊙ respectively based on R_c band data. Quite similar values are found by analyzing I_c band data. From the photometric light curve examination, the star is understood to be a low mass-ratio overcontact binary of A-subtype with a high fill-out factor of about 47%. The binary system is found to be located approximately at a distance of 2.64 ± 0.03 kpc having a separation of 2.01 ± 0.05 R_⊙ between the two components.  相似文献

A circumstellar corona is proposed to explain a strange quark-cluster star during an accretion phase, which could be essential for understanding the observations of the puzzling symbiotic X-ray system 4U 1700+24. The state of cold matter at supranuclear density is still an important matter of debate, and one of the consequences of a strange star acting as a pulsar is the self-bound phenomenon on the surface, which makes extremely low-mass compact objects unavoidable. In principle, both the redshifted O VIII Ly-α emission line and the change in the blackbody radiation area could naturally be understood if 4U 1700+24 is a low-mass quark-cluster star which exhibits wind accretion.  相似文献

From Einstein Observatory, we know most nearby dM flare stars have X-ray emissions. X-ray flare energy of dM stars is far larger than that of large flares of sun. The corona temperature of dM stars is higher than that of sun. The X-ray flare time scales are several minutes to hours. Star corona heating model for X-ray flares is loop model, which provide a mechanism to convert magnetic energy to heat energy in star corona.Within identification of ROSAT X-ray sources, we found that X-ray source: RX1102.0 4347 corresponds to WX UMa, a dM5e flare star, which is in a nearby visual binary: Gliese 412A B. The binary is very near to earth, 5.38pc, and has high proper motion, 4".54/ year. The binary is also an Einstein X-ray source: 1 E1103.0 4346.In March 27, 1993, we observed WX UMa by CCD BVRI photometry at BAO 2.16m telescope. Magnitudes of the star are: V = 14.56, B-V = 1.95, V-R = 0.97, R-I = 2.06, which are similar to previous observations. From the ROSAT X-ray survey data in November 7-17, 1990, average X  相似文献

We present multi-color photometric observations and a one-dimensional spectrum, acquired from March 2016 to May 2017, for the short-period eclipsing binary PS Vir, by using the 2.16-m,85-cm and 60-cm telescopes at Xinglong station, which is administered by National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The spectral type was determined as G2V from the onedimensional spectrum. The photometric solution was reduced from BV Rc light curves. The results imply that PS Vir is a W-subtype contact binary with a mass ratio of q = 0.305(±0.008) and a fill-out factor of f = 14.4(±1.8)%. The orbital period may be undergoing a cyclic oscillation with an amplitude of A = 0.0027(±0.0001) d and a modulated period of 11.7(±0.2) yr, which may result from the light-time effect due to a third body. The lower limit on mass for the assumed component is 0.12 M⊙.Moreover, the more massive component of PS Vir may be a bit more evolved star as determined from the mass-luminosity diagram.  相似文献

The new complete BV Rc Ic light curves and spectra of the short-period eclipsing binary XZ CMi are presented. The results from the combined analysis based on the photometric and spectroscopic data show that XZ CMi is a near contact binary with the secondary component filling its critical Roche lobe while the primary filling 91% of its Roche lobe. The investigation of the O-C diagram reveals that its orbital period is continuously increasing, which is consistent with the derived configuration and caused by the mass transfer from the less massive star to the more massive one. In addition, an obvious periodic modulation with the amplitude of0.0187(±0.0016) d and a high eccentric of 0.86(±0.04) is detected, which could be the results of the light time effect as a third star with the mass no less than 0.42(±0.09) M⊙orbiting around the central eclipsing binary once every 95.7(±2.1) yr. Furthermore, we found a visual companion star at 2.4′′ east by south of this system at a much greater distance by direct image. The large third light contribution found from the light curve analysis could be well explained by the existence of the third star and the fourth visual one.The similar parallax and proper motion imply that the components of this hierarchical quadruple system might be bounded by gravitation. Spectroscopic observations for two visual components were carried out by the LAMOST and 2.16 m telescopes, respectively. Their different values of [Fe/H] suggest that they were not born from the same origin. Thus, XZ CMi system is an interesting and important target to study the formation of the multiple stars.  相似文献

We study the interaction between supermassive binary black holes in an elliptical orbit and their surrounding disk with a gap. The gap in the disk is a low density region formed due to the tidal effects of the less massive black hole. The binary we have investigated has a sub-parsec separation and is coplanar with the disk. We find that the maximum variation of the surface density in the gap reaches 50% during an orbital period. However, in other regions of the disk, the density variation is much less than 1%. Furthermore, we calculate the corresponding variation of spectral energy distribution within a period, but little variation is found. The reason for these results is that the viscosity timescale of the disk at the binary radius is much longer than the orbital period of the binary.  相似文献

Multi-color light curves of V1197 Her were obtained with the 2.4 meter optical telescope at the Thai National Observatory and the Wilson-Devinney(W-D) program was used to model the observational light curves. The photometric solutions reveal that V1197 Her is a W-subtype shallow contact binary system with a mass ratio of q = 2.61 and a fill-out factor of f = 15.7%. The temperature difference between the primary star and secondary star is only 140 K in spite of the low degree of contact, which means that V1197 Her is not only in geometrical contact configuration but is also already under thermal contact status. The orbital inclination of V1197 Her is as high as i = 82.7?, and the primary star is completely eclipsed at the primary minimum. The totally eclipsing characteristic implies that the determined physical parameters are highly reliable. The masses, radii and luminosities of the primary star(star 1) and secondary star(star2) are estimated to be M1 = 0.30(1) M_⊙, M2 = 0.77(2) M_⊙, R1 = 0.54(1) R_⊙, R2 = 0.83(1) R_⊙,L1 = 0.18(1) L_⊙and L2 = 0.38(1) L_⊙. The evolutionary statuses of the two component stars are drawn in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, showing that the less massive but hotter primary star is more evolved than the secondary star. The period of V1197 Her is decreasing continuously at a rate of d P/dt =-2.58 ×10-7 day · year-1, which can be explained by mass transfer from the more massive star to the less massive one at a rate of dM_2/dt=-1.61 × 10~(-7) M_⊙year~(-1). The light curves of V1197 Her are reported to show the O'Connell effect. Thus, a cool spot is added to the more massive star to model the asymmetry in the light curves.  相似文献

A new ephemeris, period change analysis and light curve modeling of the W UMa-type eclipsing binary BF Pav are presented in this study.Light curves of the system taken in BVRI filters from two observatories,in Australia and Argentina, were modeled using the Wilson-Devinney code. The results of this analysis demonstrate that BF Pav is a contact binary system with a photometric mass ratio q=1.460 ± 0.014,a fillout factor f=12.5%,an inclination of 87.97 ± 0.45 deg and a cold spot on the secondary component.By applying the distance modulus formula, the distance of BF Pav was calculated to be d=268 ± 18 pc which is in good agreement with the Gaia EDR3 distance. We obtain an orbital period increase at a rate of 0.142 s century-1 due to a quadratic trend in the O-C diagram. Also,an alternative sudden period jump probably occurred which could be interpreted as a rapid mass transfer from the lower mass star to its companion of about ΔM=2.45 × 10~(-6) M_⊙.Furthermore,there is an oscillatory behavior with a period of 18.3±0.3 yr.Since BF Pav does not seem to have significant magnetic activity, this behavior could be interpreted as the light-time effect caused by an undetected third body in this system. In this case, the probability for the third body to be a low mass star with M≥ 0.075 M_⊙or a brown dwarf is 5.4% and 94.6% respectively. If we assume i'=90°,a_3=8.04±0.33 AU.The mass of the secondary component was also determined following two different methods which result close to each other.  相似文献

We investigate a unique accreting millisecond pulsar with X-ray eclipses,SWIFT J1749.4-2807(hereafter J1749),and try to set limits on the binary system by various methods including use of the Roche lobe, the mass-radius relations of both main sequence(MS)and white dwarf(WD)companion stars,as well as the measured mass function of the pulsar. The calculations are based on the assumption that the radius of the companion star has reached its Roche radius(or is at 90%),but the pulsar's mass has not been assumed to be a certain value. Our results are as follows. The companion star should be an MS one.For the case that the radius equals its Roche one,we have a companion star with mass M(~-)0.51 M⊙ and radius Rc(~-)0.52 R⊙,and the inclination angle is i(~-)76.5°; for the case that the radius reaches 90% of its Roche one,we have M(~-)0.43 M⊙,Re()0.44 R⊙ and i(~-)75.7°.We also obtain the mass of J1749,Mp(~-)1 M⊙,and conclude that the pulsar could be a quark star if the ratio of the critical frequency of rotation-mode instability to the Keplerian one is higher than~0.3.The relatively low pulsar mass(about~M⊙)may also challenge the conventional recycling scenario for the origin and evolution of millisecond pulsars. The results presented in this paper are expected to be tested by future observations.  相似文献

In this study, new photometric observations of shallow contact binary CN Andromedae(CN And)were performed and multi-color(BV R) CCD light curves(LCs) were obtained. Simultaneous analysis of new LCs and published radial velocity(RV) data reveals that the system is an early contact binary in which both components have recently filled their inner Roche lobes. Asymmetric LCs were modeled by a dark spot on the primary component and a hot spot on the secondary component that probably resulted from magnetic activity and mass transfer, respectively. Modeling of LCs and RV data allows us to estimate the following absolute parameters: M1= 1.40 ± 0.02 M⊙, M2= 0.55 ± 0.01 M⊙, R1= 1.45 ± 0.02 R⊙and R2= 0.94 ± 0.02 R⊙. A decreasing orbital period with a rate of d P/dt =-1.5 × 10-7d yr-1can be seen as evidence that the system is evolving into a contact binary with higher contact degree. Cyclic oscillation of the O-C data was interpreted by the Applegate mechanism and light-time effect due to an unseen component around the close binary system. The hypothetical third component is probably a fully convective red dwarf star with a minimal mass of 0.1 M⊙. CN And is at the early phase of the contact stage of its evolution and is an interesting example for studying the formation and evolution of close binaries.  相似文献

This paper reports on the discovery that an eclipsing binary system, EPIC 202843107, has aδ Scuti variable component. The phased light curve from the Kepler space telescope presents a detached configuration. The binary modeling indicates that the two component stars have almost the same radius and may have experienced orbital circularization. Frequency analyses are performed for the residual light curve after subtracting the binary variations. The frequency spectrum reveals that one component star is a δ Scuti variable. A large frequency separation is cross-identified with the corresponding histogram, the Fourier transform and the echelle diagram method. The mean density of the δ Scuti component is estimated to be 0.09 g cm~(-3) based on the large separation and density relation. Systems like EPIC 202843107 are helpful to study the stellar evolution and physical state of binary stars.  相似文献

XB 1254–690 is a dipping low mass X-ray binary system hosting a neutron star and showing type I X-ray bursts. We aim at obtaining a more accurate orbital ephemeris and at constraining the orbital period derivative of the system for the first time. In addition, we want to better constrain the distance to the source in order to locate the system in a well defined evolutive scenario. We apply, for the first time, an orbital timing technique to XB 1254–690, using the arrival times of the dips present in the light curves that have been collected during 26 yr of X-ray pointed observations acquired from different space missions. We estimate the dip arrival times using a statistical method that weights the count-rate inside the dip with respect to the level of persistent emission outside the dip. We fit the obtained delays as a function of the orbital cycles both with a linear and a quadratic function. We infer the orbital ephemeris of XB 1254–690, improving the accuracy of the orbital period with respect to previous estimates. We infer a mass of M_2 = 0.42 ± 0.04 M_⊙for the donor star, in agreement with estimations already present in literature, assuming that the star is in thermal equilibrium while it transfers part of its mass via the inner Lagrangian point, and assuming a neutron star mass of 1.4 M_⊙. Using these assumptions, we also constrain the distance to the source, finding a value of 7.6±0.8 kpc. Finally, we discuss the evolution of the system, suggesting that it is compatible with a conservative mass transfer driven by magnetic braking.  相似文献

LS 5039 is a well-known γ-ray binary system which consists of an unknown compact object and a massive companion O star. It shows rather stable emissions at high energies over years and hence serves as an ideal laboratory to investigate the emission mechanism for such peculiar systems which emit prominent γ-rays. To this end, we take the orbital phase resolved energy spectrum as observed by Fermi-LAT over 10 years. We divide the orbit into four orbital phases, each with an orbital phase range of 0.25,centered at 0.00, 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 respectively, where the phase 0.0 is the periastron and phase 0.5 is the apastron. The phases around 0.25 and 0.75 are symmetric and hence are supposed to have identical local acceleration environment. The spectral analysis shows that the Fermi-LAT spectra are largely different from these two symmetric orbital phases: the emission from orbital phase 0.25 turns out to be significantly stronger than that from 0.75. This result does not fit a scenario that γ-rays are Doppler boosted emission from bow shock tails if LS 5039 has a shock configuration similar to PSR B1259-63, and indicates that the inverse Compton scatterings between the shock accelerated plasma and the stellar particle environment is the underline procedure. We also find that the previous report for a disappearance of the orbital modulation at 3–20 GeV is due to the similar spectral turn-over energies of the different orbital phases. The spectral properties of periastron and apastron regions are addressed in the context of the measurements in phase regions around 0.25 and 0.75.  相似文献

We present an exact analytical solution of the gravitational field equations describing a static spherically symmetric anisotropic quark matter distribution. The radial pressure inside the star is assumed to obey a linear equation of state, while the tangential pressure is a complicated function of the radial coordinate. In order to obtain the general solution of the field equations a particular density profile inside the star is also assumed. The anisotropic pressure distribution leads to an increase in the maximum radius and mass of the quark star, which in the present model is around three solar masses.  相似文献
