西北太平洋热带气旋快速增强与环境垂直风切变统计分析   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

利用1990-2009年美国联合台风警报中心整编的热带气旋(TC)最佳路径资料和NCEP/NCAR再分析等压面流场资料,在分析西北太平洋TC每24 h强度变化统计特征的基础上,确定了西北太平洋TC快速增强的阈值,对比不同阈值条件下,TC快速增强初始时刻的强度,TC快速增强发生的季节变化和空间分布特征,进一步研究环境垂直风切变与TC快速增强的关系。结果表明:在西北太平洋海区,当TC强度24 h变化达到样本累积百分率的88%、90%、93%和96%的概率时,对应的强度变化值分别为25 KT、30 KT、35 KT和40 KT,定义它们为TC快速增强的阈值。该阈值越大,快速增强初始时刻的强度也越强。60%左右的TC快速增强发生在8-10月,TC快速增强的空间分布集中于125°-150°E、10°-25°N的矩形区域内。对流层不同层次的垂直风切变与TC快速增强的关系有差异,TC快速增强阈值为40 KT时对应的对流层中上层(200~500 hPa)、对流层中下层(500~850 hPa)和对流层(200~850 hPa)的垂直风切变值的概率分布显示:当垂直风切变≥12 m/s时,分别只有9.7%、1.5%、11.1%的TC可以快速增强;且其与TC快速增强时强度变化的相关系数分别为-0.15、0、-0.04,以200~500 hPa的最为显著,表明对流层中上层垂直风切变对TC强度增强的抑制作用最明显。在TC快速增强阈值为40 KT的初始时刻,将200~850 hPa垂直风切变划分为东风切变和西风切变的统计表明,57%的TC在东风切变的环境下可以快速增强。  相似文献

There has been an enhanced focus on Atlantic tropical cyclone climatologies with the significant cyclones of the past decade and the associated loss of life and property. This study examines the geographic location of cyclone tracks and their relationship to El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). The average annual cyclone track latitude and longitude correlate positively with hurricane-season El Niño indices, indicating that during El Niño conditions, tropical cyclone tracks are shifted northward and eastward. June–November indices explain 11–22% and 3–11% of the variance in cyclone track latitude and longitude, respectively. Examination of the strongest and weakest El Niño years yields similar results. Higher sea level pressure over North America, a slight contraction of the Bermuda High, and a slight decrease in 500 mb heights during El Niño years helps to explain the observed northward and eastward movement of tropical cyclone tracks during El Niño years. Additionally, weaker easterly and stronger southerly winds on the western side of the North Atlantic Basin exist during El Niño years. Although future tropical cyclone track projection is beyond the scope of this research, these results may provide insight into forecast improvement and ultimately better responses for coastal communities.  相似文献

Researchers have utilized radar reflectivity returns and lightning flashes separately and together to locate convection with tropical cyclones (TCs). Most studies utilizing both datasets have examined TCs over the ocean, while landfall observations have been limited to a few TCs. This study employs a GIS to delineate regions of high radar reflectivity values within 45 landfalling TCs. The percentage of convective regions contained within each quadrant placed relative to storm motion and deep-layer vertical wind shear is calculated. These percentages are then compared to those from previous studies of quadrant-based lightning flash locations. Results indicate that the GIS-based radar analysis may be identifying TC regions that are electrically active. Both the radar- and lightning-based analyses show that convection shifts from the right to the front of the storm as forward velocity increases. Convection is located left of the shear vector when storm motion is 45-135° counterclockwise from the shear vector, and downshear when shear-minus-motion angles are 315-45°. Additionally, storms that became extratropical within 72 hours of landfall had more convection forward of the circulation center and left of the shear vector, and may produce less lightning than the remaining TCs.  相似文献

This paper presents a case study of a cluster of tornadoes produced by tropical cyclone (TC) Ivan in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States on 17–18 September 2004. Ivan produced 118 tornadoes between 15 and 18 September, but 57 of these occurred in a period of only 10 h on the last two days. The number of tornadoes that occurred in this event is anomalous when compared to regional tornado climatology and to other TC tornado events. Furthermore, a significantly large number of the tornadoes, when compared to other TC tornadoes, were rated strong according to the Fujita Scale, and they were anomalously long- and wide-tracked. Ivan was in a synoptically favorable environment when these tornadoes were produced, and the tornadoes occurred in a favorable local-scale environment near a front with spatially overlapping shear and buoyancy.  相似文献

中国是遭受热带气旋灾害最为严重的国家之一,准确的降水模拟对于开展热带气旋灾害风险评估有重要意义。本文从热带气旋灾害风险评估的视角,将降水模拟分为基于极值理论的降水极值模拟、基于站点的降水时空模拟和基于热带气旋路径的降水事件模拟3大类;根据风险评估对降水模拟的需求,从模型构建、发展及其特点等方面对3类模型进行分析评述;进而提出面向风险评估的热带气旋降水模拟,应兼顾降水模拟的一般性和热带气旋暴雨模拟的特殊性,平衡处理降水模拟结果的准确性、统计量的可靠性和计算量问题。以极值理论对降水极值模拟为基础,充分发挥降水时空模拟在处理长时间降水序列中的优势,并加强热带气旋降水的理论研究,进一步完善热带气旋降水事件的模拟模型。  相似文献

采用Hadley中心1953—2012年海冰密集度资料、NCEP/NCAR逐月再分析资料和1977—2011年日本气象厅台风资料,对冬春季北极海冰变化的主要特征进行了分析,并对冬春季北极海冰变化与西北太平洋台风活动之间的关系进行了初步探讨。结果表明,冬春季北极海冰表现为明显的年代际变化,且在1965—2004年间具有3—4 a的低频振荡周期。在20世纪60年代后期和70年代初期,海冰变化最为显著。冬春季海冰变化与西北太平洋热带气旋生成频次、强度频次的相关性在9月份明显高于其他月份,且为正相关,而与热带气旋强度等级有较显著的负相关性。冬春季北极海冰变化与夏季西太平洋副高强度、副高面积均有很好的负相关关系。冬春季海冰面积偏多(少)时,夏季北美东部、冰岛附近地区、北太平洋以及中低纬度大部地区500 h Pa高度场为负(正)距平分布。冬春季北极海冰面积异常对北半球大气环流的持续性影响,在随后到来的台风盛期有较明显的体现。  相似文献

从一次发生在辽宁,由蒙古气旋引发的沙尘暴过程入手,利用数值模拟手段,结合常规气象观测资料,围绕蒙古气旋的动力、热力特征以及如何促成此次沙尘暴的发生、发展和维持进行探讨。结果表明,高空气流的辐散抽吸是此次过程的主要起沙动力机制,由蒙古国中部向东南方向延伸至韩国南部的副热带西风急流为此次辽宁沙尘暴过程提供了充足的沙源。此外,蒙古气旋内部的垂直环流与控制辽宁地区的冷平流对此次沙尘暴和降温过程具有一定的触发与维持作用。  相似文献

利用观测资料和NCEP再分析资料,对冷锋型和蒙古气旋型两类沙尘天气过程的典型个例进行对比分析。结果表明:斜压强迫在两类过程中均较为显著,冷锋型沙尘天气过程中,随高度降低高空槽明显加深;蒙古气旋型则在对流层低层(850 hPa)、中层(500 hPa)形成切断低压。冷锋型沙尘天气过程高空锋区位置较蒙古气旋型偏南,且南压更为明显;冷锋型沙尘天气过程沙尘天气区位置也较蒙古气旋型偏南,且主要向东南方向扩展。冷锋型地面高、低压强度对比明显大于蒙古气旋型,且地面风速与能见度的反相关性高于蒙古气旋型,锋后降温也较蒙古气旋型显著。冷锋型锋前上升运动中心位于700 hPa,锋后下沉运动中心位于600 hPa。蒙古气旋型气旋中心及其附近300 hPa以下均有强的上升运动。冷锋型锋面附近正涡度随高度增高而增大,蒙古气旋型气旋中心及其附近为正涡度。最后给出了冷锋型和蒙古气旋型沙尘天气过程的天气学概念模型。  相似文献

The forests of southeastern Africa are vulnerable to damage imposed by tropical cyclones operating in the South Indian Ocean. We undertook a geographical analysis to determine the relative vulnerability of forests given tropical cyclones recorded during the 1959–2008 storm seasons. From this analysis, eastern coastal forests of Madagascar seem to be the most vulnerable, although return intervals for severe storms vary along the eastern coast, and are shorter (about 10 years) through the central portion of the country. Therefore, the central lowland to upper montane rainforests on the eastern coast seem to be more vulnerable to damage from tropical cyclones than others in the area. While not as extensive, western coastal forests of Madagascar are also as vulnerable in part due to the recurvature of storms in the Mozambique Channel. Though the coastal forests of Mozambique are all nearly equal in terms of vulnerability, the return interval for severe storms to this area is highly variable. The inland Miombo forests of southeast Africa are less vulnerable to damage from tropical cyclones; however, portions of western Mozambique and Zimbabwe have experienced strong tropical storms in the last 50 years. A number of caveats and limitations associated with the data and analyses are noted. Given the broad scale of the study, the relative vulnerability and the return intervals for severe storms should be considered general representations of these phenomena for the southeastern African coast and the island of Madagascar.  相似文献

Although previous climatological studies have investigated the relationship between cyclone frequency and trajectory and regional weather, analyses of structural airflow features and precipitation have been confined to meteorological case studies. In the following paper, the influence of Colorado cyclone airstreams on Midwestern snowfall is investigated using isentropic streamline maps for five cold season months. Results indicate that Colorado cyclones account for a minor percentage of Midwestern snowfall events and amounts. When snowfall is induced by Colorado cyclogenesis, diffluence and instability in the cold sector portions of the cyclone are the dominant lifting mechanisms.  相似文献

The shapes of 268 tropical cyclone tracks in the South West Indian Ocean (SWIO) basin are investigated over the period 1977 to 2011 using an established metric for track sinuosity. Original cyclone position data from the RSMC La Réunion area of responsibility were accessed from the IBTrACS archive maintained by NOAA. Cyclone track sinuosity was measured within a GIS environment and the filtered results were normalised with a cube-root transformation function to reduce positive skew in the output sinuosity distribution. Several key findings from spatial and temporal analysis of sinuosity results may be highlighted. To assess geographical patterns, mapping tracks within designated quartile categories (straight, quasi-straight, curving and sinuous tracks) indicates which land areas in the SWIO are more likely to be affected by cyclones following sinuous tracks that are more difficult to forecast, in particular Madagascar and the islands of Réunion and Mauritius. Over the past three decades, the temporal sinuosity pattern shows a high degree of variability that will probably continue into the future. Yet crucially, a number of conspicuous episodes of relatively magnified or subdued sinuosity are recognised compared to long-term averages. This may present opportunities for identifying major climatic controls on regional anomalous cyclone migration behaviour. Within the average yearly cyclone season, the early months (September–December) have a tendency to produce more predictable straighter-moving cyclones, whereas January stands out as the singular month marking an abrupt swing towards a greater proportion (64%) of curving and sinuously-moving storms. This finding is of importance for vulnerability assessment, because a strong positive correlation is also identified between track sinuosity and cyclone longevity, such that storms steering less predictable sinuous courses are also those that tend to survive for longer durations.  相似文献

文章对厄尔尼诺事件的强度与登陆广东的热带气旋数量之间的关系进行初步的了统计分析。结果表明: 就总的厄尔尼诺年份来看, 厄尔尼诺事件对登陆广东的热带气旋总数量没有显著的影响;但就具体的厄尔尼诺事件的强度来看, 强、中和弱的厄尔尼诺事件都对登陆广东的热带气旋有明显的影响, 只是强和弱的厄尔尼诺事件使登陆广东的热带气旋数量比非厄尔尼诺年份明显偏少; 而中等厄尔尼诺事件却使登陆广东的热带气旋数量比非厄尔尼诺年份偏多。厄尔尼诺通过影响沃克环流,使沃克环流随着厄尔尼诺强度的不同而产生不同幅度的东移,进而使登陆广东的热带气旋源地的气流出现不同情况,最后影响登陆广东的热带气旋的数量。  相似文献

利用热带气旋路径资料和灾情资料,综合考虑热带气旋的频数、强度、范围以及持续时间,建立热带气旋潜在影响力指数,分析了1949-2009 年我国热带气旋的潜在影响力的空间格局和年际变化特征,并以0608 号超强台风“桑美”为例分析了该指数与灾害损失、过程极大风速、过程雨量的关系。研究结果表明:1949-2009 年间,我国的热带气旋的潜在影响力呈现出弱减少的趋势,这种趋势并不显著,但各阶段性的趋势比较明显;近20 年来,我国海南、广东、广西等华南沿海受热带气旋潜在影响力在下降,而浙江、福建、台湾等东南沿海省份受热带气旋潜在影响力在上升;潜在影响力指数最高的区域主要分布在台湾、海南、广东沿海、福建沿海以及浙江南部沿海等地;TCPI 与灾害损失、过程极大风速、过程降水量等有较好的相关性,并都通过了0.01 的显著性检验。  相似文献

Tropical cyclones (TCs) produce complex rainfall patterns that are difficult to predict due to atmospheric and land surface forcings. This study utilizes geographic information systems to spatially analyze radar returns and calculate several metrics that quantify the shapes of TC rain shields. Three stepwise discriminant analyses are performed to determine which of the shape metrics distinguish among TCs categorized by: intensity, distance traveled inland, and orientation of terrain encountered. Results confirm that TC rain shields often assume noncircular shapes. Utilizing shape indices to model rain shields could help produce TC rainfall forecasts that are more spatially accurate.  相似文献

This study explores two different tropical cyclone rainfall (TCR) problems: first, the identification of areas where TCR is highly concentrated and, second, the contribution of tropical cyclones (TCs) to the climatology of Puerto Rico for the period 1970–2010. A total of 86 storms within a 500-km radius of Puerto Rico were analyzed. Daily and monthly rainfall data from 32 weather stations were used to generate interpolated surfaces. Two geostatistical interpolation techniques were implemented: ordinary kriging and ordinary cokriging. Results show that rainfall from most TCs tends to be clustered in the eastern, southeastern, and central regions of the island, with a decrease in values toward the west. TCs closer to Puerto Rico (≤230 km) and embedded in high moisture environments (≥44.5 mm) exhibited the highest rainfall values, with most concentrated in the high elevation areas of the southeastern region of the island. Months with the largest TC contributions to rainfall (20–30%) were August and September, while the lowest contributions were found in June and November. For August, stations in the southern and eastern portions of the island had TCR contributions of >20%, with some stations in the southern coastal plains exhibiting 30%.  相似文献

The localized rain rate maxima (RM) of the inner core region of intense tropical cyclones (TCs) are investigated using Version 6 of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis data-set from 1998 to 2010. Specifically, this study examines the probabilities of RM exceeding 25 mm h?1 (P25) in intense TCs. The 25 mm h?1 RM is the 90th percentile of all RM observations during the study period. The descending order of P25 observed from intense TCs for the six major ocean basins is: the North Indian Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Northwest Pacific Ocean, the South Pacific Ocean, the South Indian Ocean, and the East-central Pacific Ocean. The six major basins have been subdivided into 29 sub-basins to discern regional variability of RM. P25 increases with increasing TC category in all major basins, except for the South Pacific. Sub-basins with intense TCs that produce extreme rainfall rate maxima include the Bay of Bengal, the South Philippine Sea, the East China Sea, the north coast of Australia, southeast Melanesia, and the Northwest Atlantic. Sub-basins with a higher proportion of category 5 (CAT5) observations than category 3 (CAT3) observations tend to have a greater P25 beyond 60 km from the storm center.  相似文献
