To evaluate influence of chemical weathering of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) on seawater 87Sr/86Sr variation, river water and sediment samples were collected, and their Sr concentrations and isotopic compositions analyzed, from the seven large rivers that originated from the QTP. By combining these with the data of the Ganges, Brahmaputra, Indus and Irrawaddy originated in the southern QTP, the total Sr flux of the eleven rivers reaches 3.47×109 mol·a−1, which accounts for 10.2% of the total Sr flux transported by the global rivers. The weighted mean 87Sr/86Sr is 0.71694, higher than the average value of the global rivers. The 87Srex (87Sr flux in excess of the seawater 87Sr/86Sr ratio) of the Chinese seven rivers is 1.55×106 mol·a−1, only accounting for about 6% of the value of the eleven rivers originated from QTP, and the Ganges-Brahmaputra system accounts for 86%. We assume that the QTP rivers have no strontium contributions to the oceans before ∼40 Ma and the Sr fluxes of the global rivers, except the QTP eleven rivers, are constant, then a maximum linear increase in Sr fluxes of the QTP rivers from zero to the modern value in response to tectonic uplift can explain ∼69% increase of seawater 87Sr/86Sr over the past ∼40 Ma and the remainder of 31% is perhaps provided from other factors. 210Pb measurements were carried out on the sediments cores from a small south Belgian pond. In two cores, the210Pb activity decreases exponentially with depth. Under various assumptions described in the article, the corresponding accumulation rates would be of the order of 60–100 mg/cm2 of dried sediment per year.The stable lead content greatly increases from the older to the more recent sediment. This increase is accompanied by a change in isotopic composition: from the bottom to the top of the cores, the lead isotopic composition becomes progressively less radiogenic, reaching at the surface values identical to that for present atmospheric lead.  相似文献

Abstract Granitoids are widely distributed in the Ryoke belt and have been divided into four main igneous stages based on their field setting. In this paper, we present Rb–Sr isochron ages for the younger Ryoke granitoids (second stage to fourth stage) in the Kinki district. The Yagyu granite (second stage) gave a Rb–Sr whole‐rock isochron age of 74.6 ± 10.9 Ma with an initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.70938 ± 0.00016, and a Rb–Sr mineral isochron age of 71.8 ± 0.1 Ma. The Narukawa granite (second stage) yielded a Rb–Sr mineral isochron age of 79.5 ± 0.4 Ma. A Rb–Sr whole‐rock isochron age of 78.3 ± 3.0 Ma with an initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.70764 ± 0.00014 was obtained for the Takijiri adamellite (third stage). The Katsuragi quartzdiorite (fourth stage) gave a Rb–Sr whole‐rock isochron age of 85.1 ± 18.3 Ma (initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.70728 ± 0.00006), and mineral isochron ages of 76.9 ± 0.5 Ma and 74.8 ± 0.5 Ma. The Minamikawachi granite (fourth stage) gave a Rb–Sr whole‐rock isochron age of 72.8 ± 2.0 Ma with an initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.70891 ± 0.00021. These age data indicate that the igneous activity in younger Ryoke granitoids of Kinki district occurred between 80 and 70 Ma, except for the Katsuragi quartz diorite. The isotopic data on the various igneous stages in Kinki district correspond with the relative timing from field observations. Based on the initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios, the granitoids of the Ryoke belt in Kinki district are spatially divided into two groups. One is granitoids with initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.707–0.708, distributed in the southern part of the Ryoke belt. The other is granitoids with initial 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.708–0.710 distributed in the northern part of the Ryoke belt. The initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of granitoids increase with decreasing (becoming younger) Rb–Sr whole‐rock isochron ages.  相似文献

Internal isochrons for two Apollo 15 rocks give an age of(3.34 ± 0.09)and(3.46 ± 0.04) × 109 years with an identical87Sr/86Sr initial ratio of 0.69928. Considering the possibility for the line obtained in a87Sr/86Sr,87Rb/86Sr diagram to be a mixing line, the significance of these results are discussed.  相似文献

The measurement of the176Lu/175Lu ratio in the Oklo uranium ore zones where nuclear reactions have been identified, can be related to the average equilibrium temperature of the neutrons at the time of the nuclear reactions; indeed, the effective neutron capture cross section of the isotope176Lu is particularly sensitive to temperature. A simple model has been developed to calculate the temperature. The results obtained on seven samples from three reactor zones are presented. From six samples an average value of280 ± 50°C is obtained, the corresponding integrated neutron flux τ varies from 0.06 × 1020 to 6 × 1020 n/cm2 and176Lu/175Lu from 0.0254 to 0.0054. From one sample a very high temperature is obtained:T > 1000°C, τ = 4.4 × 1020n/cm2,176Lu/175Lu= 0.0032. The validity of this result is sharply dependent on the relative stability of uranium and the rare earths during and after the nuclear reactions; so, it can be noticed that the two samples giving the highest temperatures present a surprisingly high enrichment in heavy rare earth elements.  相似文献

Oceanic87Sr/86Sr ratios during Jurassic to Pleistocene have been determined by analysing fresh waters from marine limestone and dolomite aquifers. The results are in good agreement with published data from well preserved fossil material. The87Sr/86Sr ratios obtained are 0.7070 for Lower to Middle Jurassic, 0.7075 for Late Cretaceous, 0.7080 for Lower to Middle Eocene and 0.7087 for Pleistocene aquifer waters. The value of87Sr/86Sr for the Eimer and Amend isotopic standard was 0.7082.  相似文献

To investigate the source, flow paths, and chemistry of rich resources of high‐quality, shallow groundwater in the alluvial fan between the Tedori and Sai rivers in central Japan, we analysed stable isotope ratios of H, O, and Sr and concentrations of major dissolved ions and trace elements in groundwater, river water, and paddy water. The 87Sr/86Sr ratios of the groundwater are related to near‐surface geology: groundwater in sediment from the Tedori River has high 87Sr/86Sr ratios (>0.711), whereas that from the Sai River in the north of the fan has low 87Sr/86Sr ratios (<0.711). δ2H and δ18O values and 87Sr/86Sr ratios indicate that groundwater in the central and southern fans is recharged by the Tedori River, whereas recharge in the north is from the Sai River. Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, HCO3?, and SO42? concentrations and δ2H and δ18O values in the groundwater are high in the central fan and, except for the northern area, tend to increase with distance from the Tedori River. There are linear relationships between 87Sr/86Sr ratio and the reciprocal concentrations of Sr2+, Mg2+, and Ca2+. These geochemical characteristics suggest that as groundwater recharged from the Tedori River flows towards the central fan, it mixes with waters derived from precipitation and paddy water that have become enriched in these components during downward infiltration. These results are consistent with our hydrological analysis and numerical simulation of groundwater flow, thus verifying the validity of the model we used in our simulation of groundwater flow. A modified AEI-IM20 ion microprobe has been used to measure87Sr/86Sr ratios in carbonates. A suite of carbonates with varying major elements (Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn) was studied at low and high (M/ΔM ? 3000) mass resolution to determine the types and intensities of molecular species isobaric with Sr peaks; Sr data collected at low mass resolution must be corrected for Ca2 and CaMgO species. Rb/Sr ratios are extremely low, and correction for87Rb is not required (< 0.1‰ of87Sr).Usable Sr isotopic data may be obtained from calcite givenSr≥ 400ppm, and for Sr > 5000 ppm a precision of ~ ± 1‰ (± 0.0007) in87Sr/86Sr (2σ mean) can be achieved under optimum conditions. The corrections for Ca2 and CaMgO are smaller than the within-run precision in calcite, but in dolomite the correction for CaMgO is + 1.5%. Mass fractionation corrections to87Sr/86Sr (based on86Sr/88Sr= 0.1194) are typically +8 to +10‰. Good agreement between ion probe and solid source mass spectrometer results was found for calcites of known Sr isotopic composition: ST4a (~ 400ppm Sr), average ion probe87Sr/86Sr= 0.7267 ± 0.0015, solid source87Sr/86Sr= 0.72680 ± 0.00008 [14]; JCG36 (~ 6000ppm Sr), average ion probe87Sr/86Sr= 0.7056 ± 0.0009, solid source87Sr/86Sr= 0.70588 ± 0.00009 [16]; JCG44 (~ 6000ppm Sr), average ion probe87Sr/86Sr= 0.7057 ± 0.0006, solid source87Sr/86Sr= 0.70540 ± 0.00008 [16]. The ability of the ion microprobe to measure87Sr/86Sr for 10-μm spots in calcite was used: (1) to measure variation in87Sr/86Sr of ~ 0.01 on a centimetre scale in a hydrothermally altered basalt from the Isle of Skye, northwestern Scotland; and (2) to determine the Sr isotopic composition of tiny (< 35 μm) calcite grains in a veined mantle lherzolite from Bultfontein, South Africa. Because of calcite's ubiquitous occurrence in many parageneses this technique may offer many opportunities for the measurement of fine scale heterogeneities in87Sr/86Sr.  相似文献

We have developed a thermodynamic model for the determination of the closure temperature (TC) at which the minerals defining an internal isochron in RbSr, or similar, geochronological system were set with a geochronological clock. It is shown that the equilibrium fractionation of87Rb and87Sr between a pair of minerals at TC [KD(87Rb87Sr)C] is given by the ratio of the quantity (87Rb/86Sr) in the two minerals as measured at the present time. KD(87Rb-87Sr), which equals the element distribution coefficient KD(RbSr) under equilibrium condition, can be calibrated as a function of temperature, and compared with the retrieved value of KD(87Rb87Sr)C in a natural pair to obtain TC. The various mineral pairs defining an internal isochron will yield concordant or discordant values of TC depending on whether or not they closed simultaneously with respect to the diffusion of Rb and Sr. Both types of results are expected, and are important in the analyses of the evolutionary history of the host rocks. Preliminary analyses of the published data in the RbSr system suggest a fairly wide range of TC even for the same mineral pair, reflecting differences in the cooling rates and physico-chemical environments of the host rocks.  相似文献

Neogene Yamadağı volcanic rocks consist of basaltic trachyandesite, trachyandesite, andesite, and dacite. The major- and trace-element chemistry indicates that the lavas are dominantly calc-alkaline and mildly alkaline in character, sodic in nature, and intermediate to acidic in composition. REE and trace-element patterns of volcanic rocks are similar to those typical of within plate magmatics. Volcanic rocks have low 87Sr/86Sr (0.70389–0.70633) and high 143Nd/144Nd ratios (0.51267–0.51276) and mostly plot within the mantle array of the isotope ratio diagram. The linear correlations among 87Sr/86Sr143Nd/144Nd, SiO287Sr/86Sr and SiO2143Nd/144Nd isotope ratios in the volcanics suggest that fractional crystallization combined with minor assimilation was an important process within the collision zone.  相似文献

87Rb87Sr analyses of LL chondrites have been made in 10 whole rock meteorites, chondrules from Chainpur (LL3) and Soko Banja (LL4), density separates and chondrules from Guidder (LL5) and density separates from Jelica (LL6) and Ensisheim (LL6). Whole rocks define an isochron of age 4.486±0.020 Ga 87Rb=1.42×10?11a?1) and initial ratio (87Sr/86Sr)I=0.69887±0.00012. This is in agreement with the results for H- and E-type chondrites. Analyses for chondrules from Soko Banja yield a very good isochron of age 4.452±0.020 Ga and strontium initial ratio 0.69954±0.00024, and give an interval for metamorphism of (37±10)×106 a. A more poorly defined isochron is obtained for Jelica; the age is 4.423±0.041 Ga and the strontium initial ratio 0.69959±0.00029, indicating an interval for metamorphism of (70±60)×106 a. No isochron could be obtained for Chainpur. This could be due to terrestrial alteration or to a late isotopic disturbance of the meteorite. The87Rb-87Sr system is also disturbed in Guidder and Ensisheim, probably as a consequence of shock. These results are discussed in comparison with our former studies, and in relation with thermal metamorphism in the LL chondrite parent body(ies).  相似文献

A precise87Rb-87Sr whole-rock isochron for H chondrites and an internal isochron for Tieschitz (H3) have been determined. The age and87Sr/86Sr initial ratio of the whole rocks are4.52 ± 0.05 b.y. and0.69876 ± 0.00040(λ(87Rb) = 1.42 × 10?11yr?1). For Tieschitz, whereas handpicked separates plot on a well-defined line, heavy liquid separates scatter in the87Rb/86Sr vs.87Sr/86Sr diagram. Leaching experiments by heavy liquids indicate that they might have a sizeable effect on Tieschitz minerals. The age and87Sr/86Sr initial ratio as determined by handpicked separates are4.53 ± 0.06 b.y. and0.69880 ± 0.00020, indistinguishable from the whole-rock isochron.These results are interpreted as “primitive isochrons” dating the condensation of chondrites from the solar nebula. The best value of this event is given by joining both isochrons together at4.518 ± 0.026 b.y. and87Sr/86Sr= 0.69881 ± 0.00016. The near identity of this initial ratio with the one of Allende white inclusions argues in favor of a sharp isochronism of condensation from a87Sr/86Sr homogeneous nebula. Data from Guaren?a [11] and Richardton [48] are interpreted as secondary internal isochrons, 100 m.y. after the condensation of the whole rocks.The data are then used to constrain a thermal evolution model of the H chondrite parent body. This body might have a 150–175 km radius, and might have been heated by26Al. An26Al/27Al ratio of 4–6 × 10?6 is enough for heating such a body. Further tests for this model are proposed.  相似文献

Isotopic dilution technique and mass spectrometry are used in order to measure isotopic compositions and concentrations of some particular elements on the Oklo sample KN50-3548, which are interesting for describing the nuclear reaction. These analyses give coherent results leading to the determination of the following parameters: neutron fluence, spectrum index, total number of fissions relative to uranium, and percentage of238U and239Pu fissions. From the percentage of plutonium fissions, the duration of the nuclear reaction is estimated to be 800,000 years. The age of the nuclear reaction is measured from the lead analysis and from the number of uranium fissions; these two determinations give respectivelyd = 1730 ± 10m.y. andd = 2000 ± 100m.y. The second method, based on the assumption that uranium and rare earths have not migrated, could mean that the nuclear reaction might be older than the Francevillian. It is also shown that no contamination by natural elements has occurred for lead, rare earths, palladium and rare gases, after the reaction.  相似文献

Abstract

The western reservoirs represent the principal groundwater system in Morocco. Demographic, industrial and agricultural developments during the last decade have markedly altered groundwater quality. The Mamora coastal aquifer system is among the Atlantic systems which are most heavily threatened by pollution. Agricultural and industrial activities, and rapid urban growth contribute to the pollution of the groundwater. Contamination transport is facilitated by a high permeability of the aquifer formations. In order to assess the actual groundwater quality of the Mamora aquifer and to understand the influence of the factors generating the pollution, an extensive multidisciplinary research programme is in progress, with hydrochemistry and microbiology playing essential roles. The present paper concerns the spatial distribution of physico-chemical parameters in the groundwater, subjected to domestic, industrial and agricultural pollution. Fifty-seven samples were analysed for several parameters (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+, Cl?, SO4 2?, HCO3 ?, NO3 ?, pH, electrical conductivity and temperature). The microbiological analysis of 143 samples reveals the presence of four kinds of indicator bacteria in the groundwater resources: faecal Streptococci, faecal coliform, Escherichia coli and Clostridium. The physico-chemical results and bacteriological monitoring show that the nitrate and bacteria concentrations exceed the maximum admissible levels, notably around pumping stations in the sectors of Sidi Taibi, Sidi Ahmed Taleb and Aïn Sbaâ. Contamination is generated by uncontrolled anthropogenic activities and accentuated by the high intrinsic vulnerability of the aquifer system. Several parameters appeared to exceed admissibility standards. Measures are recommended to prevent groundwater pollution in the region.  相似文献

Compositional and isotopic zoning patterns in plagioclase and amphibole phenocrysts from El Chichón record multiple cycles of country rock assimilation, magma injection, hybridization, and mixing. Laser ablation ICP-MS and electron microprobe analyses of plagioclase crystals from 7 eruptions spanning 3100 years reveal four types of zoning. These compositional and isotopic zones are often associated with textural changes observed in the crystals in thin section (e.g. sieved or patchy regions). Amphiboles are frequently zoned in Al and Si, and, in two magmas, may have clinopyroxene rims. Interestingly, most plagioclase show multiple and repeated zoning patterns. Moreover, all magmas contain all zoning patterns and textures, and crystals with substantially different sequences of zones occur within mm of one another. The most reasonable explanation for the origin of these textures is a frequently recharged chamber. Plagioclase zones with increasing anorthite contents (An) and decreasing 87Sr/86Sr ratios record injection by a hotter, possibly wetter, and more primitive magma (lower 87Sr/86Sr ratio). Zones with decreasing An and increasing 87Sr/86Sr ratios record assimilation of country rock and/or hybridization of the host and injected magmas; injection of hot magma may provide the heat for country rock assimilation. Changes in An without corresponding changes in 87Sr/86Sr ratio likely record slight variations in pressure or temperature during crystallization, or the far-field thermal effects of magma injection. Variations in 87Sr/86Sr ratio unaccompanied by Anzoning record assimilation of country rock. Amphibole zoning patterns also record periodic heating events; amphibole with clinopyroxene rims record episodes where the magma was heated beyond the amphibole stability field. Bulk compositional homogeneity and the juxtaposition of many crystals with disparate zoning patterns in single pumice require the magmatic system to be well mixed. Strontium diffusion rates indicate that the plagioclase zoning patterns cannot have persisted at magmatic pressures and temperatures for more than ~ 500 years, thus cycles of injection and assimilation occur on timescales equal to or shorter than the eruption recurrence interval. Long-term compositional and isotopic homogeneity indicate that there is a balance between recharge, assimilation, and crystallization.  相似文献

The Pampean Ranges of northwest Argentina are a basin-and-range tectonic province with a late Precambrian to Paleozoic basement and extensive Miocene-Recent calc-alkaline volcanism. The volcanoes include the large resurgent Cerro Galan caldera, and Recent scoria cones and lava flows. Miocene-Recent volcanic rocks of basalt to dacite composition from the Cerro Galan area exhibit a range of Rb/Sr ratios of 0.043–1.092 and initial87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7057–0.7115 with a clear positive correlation between87Sr/86Sr and87Rb/86Sr, indicating an apparent age of ca. 130 Ma. This relationship is interpreted to indicate that the Sr isotope variation in the Cerro Galan volcanic rocks results from mixing of a mantle-derived component with low87Sr/86Sr (<0.7057) and high Sr (>700 ppm) with a crustal component characterized by higher87Sr/86Sr (>0.7115) and lower Sr (<240 ppm). It is concluded that the mixing is best explained as a result of a small degree of selective crustal Sr contamination (ca. 10%) of a range of subsequently erupted magmas produced largely by fractional crystallization within the continental crust. We propose that the mantle-derived end-member is derived by partial melting of sub-Andean mantle with an87Sr/86Sr ratio of ca. 0.704, and that such an Sr isotope ratio characterizes the source region for calc-alkaline volcanic rocks throughout the Andes.  相似文献

A87Rb-87Sr analysis of some enstatite meteorites has been made. Whole rocks plot on an isochron of age 4.508 ± 0.037b.y. and strontium initial ratio 0.69880 ± 0.00044 (2σ errors; λ87Rb= 1.42 × 10?11yr?1) . If the Norton County results are joined, we get an age of 4.516 ± 0.029b.y. and initial ratio of 0.69874 ± 0.00022. This result is indistinguishable from the whole rock isochron for H chondrites. It is interpreted as the age of condensation from the solar nebula. The identity of the87Sr/86Sr initial ratio with the ones for Allende white inclusions shows that this ratio was homogeneous in the solar nebula, and that the Rb-Sr fractionations observed between the different chondrite groups appeared only shortly before or during condensation accretion.Internal studies of the type-I enstatite chondrites Abee and Indarch and the intermediate-type Saint Mark's and Saint Sauveur have been done.Abee data scatter in the87Rb-87Sr diagram. For Indarch, Saint Mark's and Saint Sauveur, we obtained well-defined straight lines of “age” (T) and “initial ratio” (I): Indarch,T = 4.393 ± 0.043b.y.I = 0.7005 ± 0.0009; Saint Mark's,T = 4.335 ± 0.050b.y.I = 0.69979 ± 0.00022; Saint Sauveur,T = 4.457 ± 0.047b.y.I = 0.6993 ± 0.0014. Our result on Indarch agrees with the former result of Gopalan and Wetherill [5].A careful examination of the data shows that these straight lines are neither due to leaching effects by heavy liquids, nor result from terrestrial weathering. The “isochrons” for Indarch and Saint Sauveur can be mixing lines between enstatite and feldspar. The results are interpreted in terms of cosmochemical secondary effects: type-I and intermediate-type enstatite chondrites have been shocked 60–200 m.y. after their formation. This agrees with the idea of an early generalized bombardment of the inner solar system; this also indicates that type-I enstatite chondrites were rather situated in the outershells of their parent body and might be at the origin of the scatter of I-Xe ages of enstatite meteorites.Whole rock and enstatite from Bishopville, Cumberland Falls and Mayo Belwa have also been analysed. In these three aubrites, the87Rb-87Sr system is perturbed. Our Bishopsville sample might not be fresh and this makes the significance of our results uncertain. Cumberland Falls and Mayo Belwa probably suffered relatively recent shocks and open-system redistribution of Rb and Sr.  相似文献

Danube river water samples were saturated with mineral oil, and then the primary production (gross) was determined by means of the light-dark bottle method (oxygen) in situ at depths of 0.1… 1.5 m in comparison with untreated samples. Samples were exposed for half a solar day alternately during the first and second half-days. Investigations carried out between March and October for periods of 14 days showed a mean production of 2.56 g · m?2d?1 O2, which was reduced by 36% due to 12.6 mg/l hydrocarbons. Production decreases with the water depth from 6.2 to 0.9 mg · l?1d?1 02, whereas the inhibition by hydrocarbons increases from 31 to 41%.  相似文献

Glauconite samples from the Navesink Formation of New Jersey were separated into different morphological groups. Each morphological type was dated using the Rb-Sr method in an attempt to test the hypothesis that the mamillary and the lobate glauconite morphologies are more suitable than other morphologies for radiometric dating. Isochron dates of unaltered dark-green lobate glauconites were found to be reliable indicators of the true age of the sedimentary rock. Weathering processes may drastically affect the87Rb/87Sr ratios of glauconite pellets by removal of Rb from the glauconite. This results in anomalously high apparent ages. Light-green glauconites were shown to have suffered extensive Rb loss and are hence inappropriate for dating. A slightly altered dark-green lobate glauconite appears to have suffered some Rb loss. X-ray diffraction criteria were not always sufficient in indicating whether glauconite samples have remained closed systems with respect to87Rb and87Sr.  相似文献

Oxygen and strontium isotope ratios have been used to characterize source regions for granitic magmas for a transect across the northern Appalachian orogen in central and eastern Maine. The northwestern plutons (Katahdin and Seboeis) have δ18O values of 10.3–13.3 and initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7083 and 0.7066, respectively. The central plutons (Bottle Lake and Center Pond) have lower δ18O values (8.2–9.9) and initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7043–0.7055). The southeastern plutons (Lucerne and Deblois) have δ18O values (9.0–11.0) but initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7077 and 0.7041, respectively) which are intermediate between the northwestern and central plutons.Source models derived from these results and other petrological and geochemical data reflect the juxtaposition of discrete source regions by transcurrent faulting, which may be related to oblique plate motions. This model illustrates the importance of microplate accretion in the Palaeozoic history of the northern Appalachian orogen.  相似文献
