New light curves and photometric solutions of the contact binary AZ Vir are presented in this paper. The light curves appear to exhibit a typical O'Connell effect, with Maximum I being 0.021 mag (V) and 0.023 mag (B) brighter than Maximum II, respectively. From the observations, six times of minimum light were determined and from the present times of minimum light and those collected from the references, the light elements of the system were improved. The light curves were analyzed by means of the Wilson‐Devinney program. The results suggest that AZ Vir is a W‐subtype contact binary with a mass ratio of q = 0.623(2). The asymmetry of the light curves is explained by star spot models. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We present the light curve and photometric solutions of the contact binary AD Cnc. The light curve appears to exhibit a typical O'Connell effect, with Maximum I brighter than Maximum II by 0.010 mag. in V. From 1987 to 2000, the light curve showed changes of shape: the depth of the primary eclipse increased by about 0.056m while that of the secondary eclipse decreased by about 0.032m, so the difference between the primary and the secondary eclipses increased by about 0.088m, while there was no obvious variation in the O'Connell effect. Using the present and past times of minimum light, the changes in the orbital period of the system are analyzed. The result reveals that the orbital period of AD Cnc has continuously increased at a rate of dp/dt = 4.4 ×10-7day yr-1. The light curve is analyzed by means of the latest version of the Wilson-Devinney code. The results show that AD Cnc is a W-subtype contact binary with a small mass ratio of 0.267 and the two components are in poor thermal contact. AD Cnc has  相似文献

A photoelectric light curve of BL And is presented along with the first CCD light curve of GW Tau. Both objects are short-period eclipsing binaries and were observed in 2003 or 2004. Photometric elements were computed using the latest version of the Wilson–Van Hamme code. The results reveal that BL And is a semidetached system with the primary component filling its Roche lobe and the secondary one almost filling but still detached, while GW Tau is a marginal-contact binary system with a small degree of contact ( f = 10.9 per cent) and a large temperature difference of about 3100 K. All available eclipse times, including new ones, were analysed for each system. It was found that the orbital period of BL And is decreasing at the rate of  d P /d t =−2.36 × 10−8 (±0.09) d yr−1  while that of GW Tau may be decreasing or oscillating. We think period decrease is more probable. The derived configuration and secular period decrease for BL And combined with the asymmetry of the light curve indicate that this system may evolve from the present semidetached phase into a contact stage, with mass transfer from the primary component to the secondary one through the L 1 point, or that it might just undergo the broken stage predicted by the theory of thermal relaxation oscillations. In contrast, GW Tau is a marginal-contact binary in poor thermal contact and may be at the beginning of the contact phase.  相似文献

The formations of the blue straggler stars and the FK Com-type stars are unsolved problems in stellar astrophysics. One of the possibilities for their formations is from the coalescence of W UMa-type overcontact binary systems. Therefore, deep (f > 50%), low-mass ratio (q < 0.25) overcontact binary stars are a very important source to understand the phenomena of Blue Straggler/FK Com-type stars. Recently, 12 W UMa-type binary stars, FG Hya, GR Vir, IK Per, TV Mus, CU Tau, V857 Her, V410 Aur, XY Boo, SX CrV, QX And, GSC 619-232, and AH Cnc, were investigated photometrically. Apart from TV Mus, XY boo, and GSC 619-232, new observations of the other 9 binaries were obtained. Complete light curves of the 10 systems, FG Hya, GR Vir, IK Per, TV Mus, CU Tau, V857 Her, GSC 619-232, V410 Aur, XY Boo, and AH Cnc, were analyzed with the 2003 version of the W-D code. It is shown that all of those systems are deep (f > 50%), low-mass ratio (q < 0.25) overcontact binary stars. We found that the system GSC 619-232 has the highest degree of overcontact (f = 93.4%). The derived photometric mass ratio of V857 Her, q = 0.0653, indicates that it is the lowest-mass ratio system among W UMa-type binaries.Of the 12 sample stars, long-term period changes of 11 systems were found. About 58% (seven) of the sample binaries show cyclic period oscillation. No cyclic period changes were discovered for the other 5 systems, which may be caused by the short observational time interval or by insufficient observations. Therefore, we think that all W UMa-type binary stars may contain cyclic period variations. By considering the long-term period changes (both increase and decrease) of those binary stars, we proposed two evolutionary scenarios evolving from deep, low-mass ratio overcontact binaries into Blue Straggler/FK Com-type stars.  相似文献

We present new CCD photometric observations of V1044 Her obtained on May 22, 23 and 24, 2015. From our data, we derived five new light curve minimum times. Combining our new results with previously available CCD light minimum times, we derived an updated ephemeris and discovered that the period of this binary system exhibits an oscillation. The cyclic variation may be caused by the light-time effect via the presence of a third body or magnetic activity cycle. We calculated the corresponding period of the third body to be 14.1 ± 1.4 years or magnetic cycle to be 12.2 ± 0.7 years. We analyzed our new asymmetric light curves to obtain photometric solutions and starspot parameters using the Wilson and Devinney program. The final results show that V1044 Her is a contact binary system with a degree of contact factor f = 3.220( ± 0.002)%.  相似文献

The first light curve solutions of the binary systems V1370 Tau and QQ Boo are presented. The periodic changes are calculated, and a new ephemeris presented for each of these two binary systems. O-C analysis is performed using the MCMC method in OCFit code. The changing rate of period was measured as dP/dt= 0.2423 days/year for V1370 Tau and dP/dt= -0.1363 days/year for QQ Boo. The light curve solutions suggest that V1370 Tau is a weak-contact eclipsing binary system with a photometric mass ratio q = 0.829, and that the corresponding fillout factor is 11.06%. Furthermore, it is suggested that the QQ Boo binary system is also a weak-contact W UMa eclipsing binary with a photometric mass ratio q = 0.831, and that its fillout factor equals 10.26%. The light curve solutions require cold spots. Utilizing the Wilson-Devinney code the photometric and geometric parameters of the systems are determined. The distance of both V1370 Tau and QQ Boo are calculated according to the estimated absolute parameters as 159.95 ± 23 pc and 309.03 ± 25 pc, respectively, which are in a good agreement with the distance values derived from the Gaia DR2 parallax within one standard deviation. Moreover, the positions of their components on the H-R diagram are represented.  相似文献

We obtained several epochs of light minima and a complete R light curve of the W-type contact binary V1128 Tau in 2009. Two cool spots on the massive component are used to model the photometric light curve. Using all available data we find evidence for a long-term period variation with an amplitude of 0.0050±0.0012 days and a period of 16.7±0.9 years. Using parameters derived from a photometric model of the 2009 light curve we show that this period change could be explained by the Applegate mechanism on one of the components.  相似文献

Four color light curves of the EW type eclipsing binary V441 Lac were presented and analyzed by the W–D code. It is found that V441 Lac is an extremely low mass ratio (q = 0.093±0.001) semi-detached binary with the less massive secondary component filling the inner Roche lobe. Two dark spots on the primary component were introduced to explain the asymmetric light curves. By analyzing all times of light minimum, we determined that the orbital period of V441 Lac is continuously increasing at a rate of dP/dt = 5.874(±0.007) × 10?7 d yr?1. The semi-detached Algol type configuration of V441 Lac is possibly formed by a contact configuration destroyed shallow contact binary due to mass transfer from the less massive component to the more massive one predicted by the thermal relaxation oscillation theory.  相似文献

New photoelectric and CCD observations of the eclipsing contact binary systems V344 Lac and V1191 Cyg are presented and analyzed. All available times of minimum light were used to study period changes of the systems and determine up-to-date ephemerides. The orbital period of V1191 Cyg is found to be increasing at a very fast rate. The photometric elements were determined using the new light curve, radial-velocity curve and broadening function fitting code ROCHE.  相似文献

Photometric analysis of BVR C light curves of newly discovered eclipsing binary GSC 0008-00901 is presented. The orbital period is improved to 0.28948(11) days. Photometric parameters are determined as well. The analysis yielded to conclusion that system is an over-contact binary of W UMa type with components not in thermal contact. The light curves from 2005 show the presence of a spot on the surface of one of the components, while light curves from 2006 are not affected by maculation.  相似文献

In this paper we present theBV photoelectric light curves of the W UMa-type eclipsing binary TY Pup. We have gained ephemerides by means of the times of minima. The obtained light curves have been solved using Wilson-Devinney's synthetic code. The results indicate that TY Pup is a contact system with mass ratio 0.185 and a large degree of overcontact of 52%. Combined with spectroscopic material, absolute parameters of TY Pup are derived. It may be concluded that TY Pup is an evolved contact binary.  相似文献

Two colour (B and V) photoelectric observations of EB-type eclipsing binary GO Cyg were carried out for 15 nights during October and December 1996. Three new times of minimum lights have been derived. With these and previously published times of minimum lights, a continuous period increase of dP/dt = 1.51 × 10-7 d yr-1 was estimated from the quadratic light element. B and V light curves have been analyzed by the method of the Wilson and Devinney Differential Correction. GO Cyg is confirmed to belong to the group of near contact systems based on light curve analysis and its absolute dimensions. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Orbital period changes of ten contact binary systems (S Ant, ε CrA, EF Dra, UZ Leo, XZ Leo, TY Men, V566 Oph, TY Pup, RZ Tau and AG Vir) are studied based on the analysis of their     curves. It is discovered that the periods of the six systems, S Ant, ε CrA, EF Dra, XZ Leo, TY Men and TY Pup, show secular increases. For UZ Leo, its secular period increase rate is revised. For the three systems, V566 Oph, RZ Tau and AG Vir, weak evidence is presented that a periodic oscillation (with periods of 20.4, 28.5 and 40.9 yr respectively) is superimposed on a secular period increase. The cyclic period changes can be explained by the presence of an unseen third body in the three systems. All the sample stars studied are contact binaries with     .
Furthermore, orbital period changes of 27 hot contact binaries have been checked. It is found that, apart from AW UMa with the lowest mass ratio     , none shows an orbital period decrease. The relatively weak magnetic activity in the hotter contact binaries means little angular momentum loss (AML) from the systems via magnetic stellar winds. The period increases of these W UMa binaries can be explained by mass transfer from the secondary to the primary components, which is in agreement with the prediction of the thermal relaxation oscillation (TRO) models. This suggests that the evolution of a hotter W UMa star is mainly controlled by TRO. On the other hand, for a cooler W UMa star     , its evolution may be TRO plus AML, which coincides with the recent results of Qian.  相似文献

It is shown that the erratic changes of the orbital period, which are observed in some detached eclipsing binary systems, cannot be interpreted as real if their light curves show changing anomalies with asymmetric minimum profiles. In this case the photometrically determined times of the minima do not coincide with the ideal geometric ones, which are unobservable. This fact and the applied reduction methods for deriving the photometric times of minima cause systematic period errors of cumulative character. The discussion of six photoelectrically-determined minima obtained within the last 20 yr, and earlier photographic ones of the 0d.479 period eclipsing binary XY UMa yields a constant period. The long cyclic light curve variations due to starspot activity of the larger and hotter component of this system are reflected in corresponding period oscillations. NSVS?07826147 and NSVS?04818255 were suspected as possible eclipsing sdB binary systems by Kelley and Shaw. In order to investigate the short period eclipsing sdB binaries, we have listed them as our observing targets and began to monitor it from March 2009. Till now, we have obtained four complete CCD light curves and 16 high precise times of light minimum of NSVS?07826147. All light curves show strong reflection and a very narrow eclipse, which implies that NSVS?07826147 should be a new short period eclipsing sdB binary. For the system NSVS?04818255, no eclipse character was found in the light curves according to our observations. However, we found that a star near NSVS?04818255 is a close binary system with a period of about 0.32498 days. Up to now, only seven short period eclipsing sdB binary systems have been found, including NSVS?07826147. With the new precise epochs obtained by us, the new period of this system is derived as 0.16177046(5) days, which can be used to predict the epochs of light minimum. Furthermore, the light curves of NSVS?07826147 are analyzed using the Wilson–Van Hamme code and the testing photometric solutions are presented and discussed.  相似文献

In this study, photometry was conducted for the W UMa type eclipsing binary BB Peg through V and R Johnson filters during several nights in September and October 2016. The light curves were obtained at Dr. Mojtahedi Observatory, of the University of Birjand, Iran. Data reduction was performed using IRIS software. Orbital parameters were obtained by analyzing the light curves using PHOEBE software. The radial velocity information was then used to obtain the absolute parameters of the system. Some minimum light times were obtained forthe system and variations in the orbital period of BB Peg were analyzed by adding the new minimum light times to the O-C diagram to obtain a new ephemeris for the system. The period change appeared to be due to the light-time effect. A justifiable fit was obtained using the third and fourth stars. However, this fit was not confirmed and it may need revision when further data are obtained. The variation could be attributed to other sources, such as magnetic cycles or non-conservative mass transfer from the system.  相似文献

CCD light curves of the Algol type eclipsing binaries DP Cep, AL Gem, FG Gem, UU Leo, CF Tau and AW Vul were analysed using the Wilson–Devinney code and new geometric and absolute parameters were derived. Due to cyclic apparent orbital period changes of the systems, probably caused by the Light-Time Effect, the contribution of a third light was taken into account in the light curve solution. All the reliable timings of minima found in the literature were used to study the period variations and search for the presence of a tertiary component in the systems. A comparison between the parameters of the third body derived from the light curve and orbital period analyses is also discussed. Moreover, the absolute parameters of the eclipsing binary components were also used to determine their current evolutionary state.  相似文献

PhotometricUBV-observations of VW Cep, a W UMa-type eclipsing binary, were made in 1971 and 1978–79. The (O-C)-diagram, with the newly determined times of minima extended, shows sudden increases and decreases in the period of VW Cep. The difference light curves (the observed light curves compared with a reference light curve) show some correlations with the sudden change of the period. In particular, the difference between the two light curves from 1971 and 1978 is also presented. The system may be in marginal contact, and as such is possibly unstable with respect to mass exchange between its components. In accordance with the variation of (O-C)-values the mass transfer between the both components is discussed. The difference between the depths of the two minima shows irregular changes, while that between the heights of the two maxima shows a long term variation on which irregular fluctuations are superimposed.  相似文献
