It is shown that X-ray radiation of neutron stars with magnetic fieldsB=1011–1013 G near cyclotron resonances=s B (s=1,2,...) is deeply affected by such quantum effects as electron-positron vacuum polarization (significant at V=3×1028 n e –1 (B/B C 4)1, whereB C =4.4×1013G), the quantizing character of the magnetic field (significant atV=3 x 1028 n e –1 (B/B c)41 whereB c =4.4 x 1013G), the non-harmonic character of the Landau levels, and the quantum recoil of electrons. The latter two factors shift the resonances by the frequency –s 2 B (B/2B c )sin2, being the angle between the direction of radiation propagation and the magnetic field. IfVV 0 (for 1,V 0–1=(mc 2/2T)1/2), the normal mode (NM) polarizations, as well as the absorption coefficientk 1 of the extraordinary NM in the Doppler core of the first resonance (|–| B cos ), is only slightly affected by varyingb and/orV, whereas for the ordinary NM (at 1)k 2k 1 2[b + (3 + tan2–2V)2]k 1. For sufficiently largeb and/orV the quantum effects amplify resonant absorption of the ordinary NM at B , with spin-flip transitions playing a major role atb1+V 2. IfVV 0, the coefficientsk 1 andk 2 in the Doppler core of the resonance are of the same order and acquire some peculiar features (shifts, intersections, etc.), with the NM polarizations depending sharply on and being strongly non-orthogonal. AtVV 0,k 2=k 1(cos2 +B/2B C ) and the polarizations are almost linear. Near high resonances (s2), as a rule,k 1,2(1 + b) s–1 2s–3 i.e., absorption increases withb due to replacement of the thermal energy of the transverse motion of electron,T, by the magnetic energy B . The above effects should be taken into account for an interpretation of observational data on X-ray pulsars (e.g., Her X-1) and other X-ray sources associated with neutron stars.  相似文献

Three different asymptotic branches of the two-fluid equations are found with e m , p n , where, is the inverse distance from the Sun, with (m, n) = (2/7, 2/7), (2/7, 6/7), (4/3, 4/3); other special solutions are also found but they correspond to special choices of density and temperature at the corona. In all the (4/3, 4/3) solutions, the electron and proton temperatures tend to equality at large distances. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Two new equations of state obtained for matter constituting isothermal neutron star core by using isentropic nature of matter for the equalities =2 and =3 (where 's are usual adiabatic exponents) have been utilised to discuss the internal temperature of core. The temperature of matter has been obtained asT=T a(P+E)/. Variation ofT/T a(t) with energy density has been discussed for these new equations of state and some standard equations of state for nuclear matter.  相似文献

Intensities and profiles of the H, H, H, K, and D3 lines are measured in a solar prominence. From the profiles of these lines we estimate T = 6400 K and t = 5.7 km s–1. We construct a simple isothermal model which explains the H intensity and profile for an assumed total particle density n T = 3 × 1011 cm–3, and a filling factor, = 1/6.From this model we find that the source function in the H line is nearly constant through the prominence. We estimate from the model that the radiative energy loss at the center of the prominence is of the order of 107 erg s–1 g–1.  相似文献

We consider the effect that coherent motion has on the observed brightness of moving clouds above the photosphere. We find that steady state clouds (constant N e and T e ) that are moving perpendicular to the line of sight will appear brighter in H for speeds between 8 and 100 km/sec and dimmer for speeds greater than 135 km/sec. The brightening and dimming are due to apparent Doppler shifts of the respective H absorption and the Lyman- emission profiles seen by the absorption profile of the moving cloud. We apply this analysis, along with optical depth and geometrical considerations, to the observed brightness variations of the 1 March 1969 limb eruptive prominence. We find that all of the observed brightening and dimming can be explained by the motions, and that no significant change in the prominence N e or T e was necessary during the observed H event. This conclusion is significant in interpreting an X-ray burst that began as the prominence velocity increased abruptly at the time of maximum H intensity. The thermal X-ray peak occurred 150 sec later when the prominence had become faint again. There was no associated flare that was visible in H. We discuss the relative brightness of H and D 3 in a specific moving prominence knot.We note that the observed range of limb speeds (30–150 km/sec) may be due to the combined H Doppler brightening and Lyman- dimming effects. We also discuss generally the H brightness of disk surges (bright and dark) and flares, and sprays and puffs that occur at or near the limb. Now at the Dept. of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Colorado, and High Altitude Observatory (NCAR) Boulder, Colo., U.S.A.  相似文献

An exact analysis of the effects of mass transfer on the flow of a viscous incompressible fluid past an uniformly accelerated vertical porous and non-porous plate has been presented on taking into account the free convection currents. A spectroscopic investigation of a quiescent prominence has been performed: the line profiles of the H and K lines have been carefully determined in all regions of the prominence where these emissions are likely to originate in optically thin layers. Therefore we have been able to study the electron temperature T e and the microturbulent velocity in the outer parts of the prominence. We find that on the average, T e = 5700 K (Figure 1) and = 6.7 km s-1 (Figure 2) which are in very good agreement with classical data. Figure 3 represents the radial velocity measurements and Figure 4 the ratio of the total intensity of H to K lines. Thus the prominence we have observed does not show for T e and the regular increase outward which has been described by Hirayama (1971). On the other hand increases towards the Equator, in the dynamically active part of the prominence, which could indicate that represents the effect of macroturbulence rather than microturbulence (Kawaguchi, 1966). In this part of the prominence only the K line is in emission and the average value of the microturbulence is 9.4 km s-1, the radial velocity is also generally increasing. At last, according to the absolute intensities of the H and K lines, the electron density in the outer layers of the prominence is no more than 1 × 1010 cm-3.  相似文献

Spectrographic observations of the flash spectrum were made by the Kwasan Observatory at the total solar eclipse on 7 March, 1970. The integrated intensities of Fexiv 5303, Fex 6374, and the continuum were measured on the spectrograms as a function of height above the Sun's limb. It was found that a large amount of emission in the coronal lines originates in the interspicular regions of the chromosphere. Analysis of the data yielded that the interspicular regions consist of coronal material of T e = 1.6 × 106–1.2 × 106 and log N e = 8.5–9.5, and that a decrease in T e and an increase in N e occur with decreasing height.  相似文献

The possibility of realization of a mechanism of regular acceleration of charged particles at the shock front in shell-type supernova remnants (SNR) is demonstrated. In the framework of this mechanism, in order to satisfy the observed fact that there is no separation of SNR emissivity by spectral indices , it is necessary that the value e e (where e is the fraction of particles injected into the mechanism and e is the threshold energy of injection) should be a strongly increasing function of . The shape of this function is obtained by using calibration objects with independently estimated magnetic fields, and its behaviour with respect to the evolution of SNRs is investigated. The magnetic field values estimated for the chosen SNRs with the aid of this function are close to their minimum values if one ignores the proton component of relativistic particles. The ratio of magnetic field energy density to the kinetic energy density increases with the increase of the SNR diameter.  相似文献

We prove existence and multiplicity of T-periodic solutions (for any given T) for the N-body problem in m (any m 2) where one of the bodies has mass equal to 1 and the others have masses 2,..., N , small. We find solutions such that the body of mass 1 moves close to x = 0 while the body of mass i moves close to one of the circular solutions of the two body problem of period T/k i, where ki is any odd number. No relation has to be satisfied by k 2,...,k N.  相似文献

Slit spectrograms of a quiescent prominence and the inner corona (h2.5 arc min) in the range 3400–7000 Å (dispersion 6–10 Å/mm) were obtained. From an analysis of the Stark effect on the Balmer lines (up to number 36) the electron density in the prominence n e = (7 ± 3) × 1010 cm–3 was deduced. The kinetic temperature T k and the non-thermal velocities t, found from a simultaneous consideration of the Balmer and metal lines, are T k 10 000 K and v t6 km/s. Also the emission measure of the prominence along the line-of-sight was found: ME = 1031 cm–5.In the coronal spectrum 24 coronal lines were found. Thirteen of these lines were identified and measured photometrically to get their absolute intensities, profiles and halfwidths. For nine lines the intensities as a function of the height were studied and on this basis the coronal lines were divided into a few groups. The line-of-sight and non-thermal velocities are r 10 km/s and t 25 km/s. The coronal lines originate in at least three types of regions with different temperatures. The emission measure as a function of the ionization temperature was determined. The abundances of four elements of the iron group (V, Cr, Mn, Co) were estimated. The abundances of the other elements of the same group (A, Ca, Fe, Ni), found from EUV-data, are in a good agreement with our observations. The degree of inhomogeneity in the corona was estimated: .  相似文献

The Solar Maximum Mission Satellite, the Sacramento Peak Vacuum Tower Telescope, the Very Large Array and the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope have been used to observe active region AR 2490 on two consecutive days at soft X-ray, ultraviolet, optical and radio wavelengths (2, 6, and 20 cm), with comparable angular resolution (2 to 15) and field of view (4 × 4). The radio emissions at = 6 cm and 20 cm show a double structure in which one component is associated with bright H plage, C iv and soft X-ray emission, and the other component is associated only with sunspots. No radiation at = 2 cm is detected in this latter component. Coronal temperature and emission measure derived from X-ray lines indicate that the dominant radiation mechanism of the plage-associated component is due to thermal bremsstrahlung while the gyroresonance absorption coefficient must be invoked to account for the high brightness temperature (T b 2×106K) observed in the sunspot associated component. The high magnetic field strength needed (600 G at a level where T2×106K) is explained assuming a thin transition zone, in order to reach a high electron temperature close to the sunspot, where the magnetic fields are stronger. A higher temperature gradient above sunspots is also consistent with the absence of detectable C iv emission.Cooperative study of the SMY-FBS Project. On leave from the University of Napoli. On leave from the University of Torino. On sabbatical leave 1980–81 at the Arcetri Observatory. On leave from Toyokawa Observatory, Japan.  相似文献

It is currently believed that it is impossible to construct a radiative sunspot model in magnetohydrostatic equilibrium unless magnetic fields below the surface are excessively large (> 100 kG). This belief is based on results obtained using the mixing length theory of convection. We wish to point out that by using a different theory of convection, due to Öpik (1950), it is possible to compute a radiative sunspot model in which the field becomes no greater than 9000 G. By applying two boundary conditions, (i) depth of spot equals depth of convection zone, (ii) magnetic field has zero gradient at the base of the spot, we show that a radiative spot has a unique effective temperature for a given Wilson depression, . For = 650 km, we find T e = 3800K ; for = 150 km, T e = 3950K. According to our model, spots having T e cooler than these values should not exist.  相似文献

The diagramV - log(1 +z e ) as function of (, ) is considered for the quasars. HereV is the apparent visual magnitude,z e is the emission line redshift, and are the equatorial coordinates. Two opposite extreme spots NE and SE are observed on the sky, where the inclination of the straight line fitting the dependenceV - log(1 +z e ) is maximum and minimum. The coordinates of the centres of these extreme spots are ( NE, NE) = (282°, +42°) and ( SE, SE) = (70°, -38°) with errors 5°. A hypothesis of the Superattractor (SA) is proposed to explain such an effect. Two independent tests of this hypothesis are realized. First, the dependence or the frequency a of the absorbers in QSO spectra on (, ) is investigated. A region of the larger a is found. The coordinates of its centre are (, ) = (82°, - 10°) with error 5°. Second, the cases ofz a >z e are plotted in the Mercatorial projection (, ). The most of the casesz -z e > 0.02 are concentrated within the circle with radiusR = 34° and centre (, ) = (50°, - 15°). The both anomalous regions overlap the Southern extreme spot around SE. The SA direction is (, ) = (67°, -21°) with errors about 12°. The redshift of SA isz SA = 1.7 ± 0.3 that corresponds to the distancer SA = (3100 ± 300)h –1 Mpc for the Hubble constantH 0 = 75h kms–1 Mpc–1. The SA mass isM SA ~ 1018-1020 M . The orientation of the normal to the quasiperiodical large-scale sheet structure on the sky occurs near SA.  相似文献

On the basis of empirical (D)-dependency at the frequency of 5 GHz constructed using 15 planetary nebulae with the independently measured distances (10–171×10–20 W m–2 Hz–1 ster–1), we evaluated distances of 335 objects. Independent evidence of the correctness of the accepted scale are given. Then(D)-dependency is constructed and it is shown that atD<0.08 pc the mean electron density is higher than the one determined by the Seaton method. We showed that the filling factor diminishes with the increase of the PN diameter (1 atD0.08 pc and 0.2 atD0.4 pc). the ionized mass of 33 PNs is determined. With the diameter increase the ionized mass grows and atD0.4 pc reaches the valueM0.07M . We used the new distance scale when investigating the space distribution of PNs. The mean scale height =130±15 pc and the mean gradient of the change of surface densitym=0.37, which allowed us to estimate the total number of nebulae in the GalaxyN4×104. We divided the PNs according to their velocities (withV LSR>35 km s–1 andV LSR<35 km s–1) and permitted us to confirm that the PN belong to different sub-systems of the Galaxy. The estimated local formation rate of PNs [=(4.6±2.2)×10–12 pc–3 yr–1] is a little higher than the one of the white dwarfs. That can be explained by a large number of PNs having binary cores, which used in our sample. The statistical estimation of PN expansion velocity showed thatV ex increases from 5–7 km s–1 (atD0.03 pc) to 40–50 km s–1 (atD0.8 pc).  相似文献

The reaction rates for the proton-proton reaction and the related electron capture reaction in a strongly magnetized relativistic electron gas of arbitrary degree of degeneracy are computed. The proton-proton reaction rates are unaffected by the presence of the magnetic field for field strengths up to the critical valueH q =m 2 c 3/e=4.414×1013G. For fields greater thanH q , the proton-proton reaction rates are enhanced linearly with (=H/H q ).The PeP reaction is investigated in detail for a wide range of temperatures, densities and magnetic field strengths that are of interest. The main results are as follows: In the non-degenerate regime the reaction rates are significantly reduced for high temperatures (T 95) and low fields (1). For instance, pep(H)=0.04 pep(O) at =10–3,T 9=10. For relatively high fields (>1) and low temperatures (T 92), the reaction rates are enhanced approximately linearly with . In the complete degenerate regime the reaction rates are reduced up to one-third of the field-free value for moderate densities (6/e10). At high densities (6/e10) the reaction rates are unaffected by the magnetic field.  相似文献

This work is the continuation of the search for such a cosmological model using which the observed redshift distribution of galaxies in the sample of Broadhurstet al. (1990) turns out to be maximally periodic in the calculated spatial distance. In a previous work, Paálet al. (1992) have demonstrated that among theflat models with non-negative cosmological constant (e.e., vacuum density) the one with a vacuum: dust ratio 2:1 provides the optimum. Now we extend that study to the case of arbitrary space curvature and find equally good periodicity in a surprisingly wide range of models. By use of the dimensionless parameters 0= 0/ crit and 0=/3H 0 2 acceptable periodicity is obtained forall points of the parameter plane within the strip between the parallel lines 0.830–0.30< 0(0)<0.830+0.85(0<1.8), whilst the best periodicities appear along the line 0=0.830+0.39 fitting to the previous optimum at 0=1/3, 0=2/3. Any nonpositive value of 0 gives bad periodicity unless the space curvature is strongly negative and 0<0.4. Fairly good periodicity is observed only in the range of the deceleration parameter –1.2q 0<0.2, corresponding to a small or even negative total gravitational attraction and an expansion time-scale longer than usually expected.  相似文献

Surface photometry of the UV continuum galaxy NGC 838 has been carried out in theB, V system using photographic plates obtained with the 74 Kottamia telescope, Egypt. Isophotes, luminosity profiles, integrated photographic magnitudes, effective diameters and other photometric parameters are derived. The photoelectrically calibrated total apparent magnitudes areB T =13.57 with maximum diameters 1.57×1.34 (at threshold m =27.7 mag.//) andV T =12.91 with maximum diameters 1.54×1.32 (at threshold m =27.7 mag./). The integrated colour index(B–V) T =0.66 and the effective surface brightness e (B=19.0 mag./) and e (V=19.7 mag./. The major axis is at position angle =85°±1°.The nucleus of NGC 838 is quite blue (integrated colour(B–V)=0.41 forr *<0.1) compared to normal galaxies while the colour becomes redder from the nucleus outwards. The UV excess, H emission and radio continuum emission previously observed from this galaxy by other investigators may be attributed to a recent burst of star formation in the nucleus of the galaxy of duration slightly greater than 2×107 yr.  相似文献

The orbital perturbations induced by the librational motion and flexural oscillations are studied for satellites having large flexible appendages. Using a Lagrangian procedure, the equations for coupled motion are derived for a satellite having an arbitrary number of appendages in the nominal orbital plane and two flexible members normal to it. The formulation enables one to study the influence of flexibility on both the orbital and attitude motions. The orbital coordinates are expanded as perturbation series in =(l/a 0)2,l anda 0 being a characteristic length of the satellite and unperturbed semi-major axis of the orbit, respectively. The first order perturbation equations are solved in terms of elastic deformations and librational angles using the WKBJ method in conjunction with the variation of parameter technique. Existence of secular perturbations is noted for certain librational flexural motions. Three specific examples, Alouette II, Radio Astronomy Explorer and Tethered Orbiting Interferometer, are considered subsequently and their possible secular drifts estimated.List of Symbols A ij, Bij coefficients in the eigenfunction expansion ofv i andw i respectively, Equation (10) - C k, Dk constants, Equation (21) - EI i flexural rigidity of theith appendage - E(u0) 2(1+e 0 cosu 0)2 h 0 3 - F(u0) perturbation function, Equation (17b) - F ,F ,F functions of librational angles and flexural displacements, Equation (11i) - F ,F ,F F ,F ,F with change of independent variable fromt tou 0 - I xx, Iyy, Izz principal moments of inertia of the undeformed satellite - [J i] inertia dyadic of the deformedith appendage - [J d] inertia dyadic of the deformed satellite - M mass of the satellite - P R, Pu functions of librational angles and flexural displacements, Equation (15d) and (15e), respectively - R c magnitude ofR c - R c0, R1 unperturbed value and first order perturbation ofR c, respectively - R c ,R 0 position vectors of the c.m. of the deformed and undeformed satellite, respectively - T kinetic energy of the satellite - U potential energy of the satellite - U e, Ug elastic and gravitational potential energy, respectively - X, Y, Z orbital co-ordinate axes, located at the c.m. of the deformed satellite - Y 1(u0), Y2(u0) functions ofu 0, Equation (18b) and (18c), respectively - a semi-major axis - a 0 unperturbed value ofa - e eccentricity - e 0 unperturbed value ofe - h 0 unperturbed angular momentum per unit mass of the satellite - i inclination of the orbital plane to the ecliptic - i, j, k unit vectors alongx (or ),y (or ) andz (or ) axes, respectively - l characteristic length of the satellite - l i length of theith appendage - [l i] matrix of direction cosines ofx i, vi andw i - l ,l ,l direction cosines ofR c - m 0, mi mass of the main body andith appendage, respectively - p i 2 - q m, Qm generalized co-ordinate and force, respectively - r 1 R 1/Rc0 - r position vector of an element of the body referred toxyz axes - r u position vector of an element after deformation, referred to axes - r c x c i+y c j+z c k, position vector of the c.m. of the deformed body referred toxyz axes - s x i/li - t time - u true anomaly - u 0, u1 unperturbed value and the first order perturbation ofu, respectively - u elastic displacement vector - u c ur c - velocity of an element relative to axes - v i, wi flexural deformations - x, y, z body co-ordinate axes with origin at the c.m. of the undeformed satellite - x i distance of an element of theith appendage from the root - j jth eigenfunction (normalized) of a cantilever - angle between the line of nodes and vernal equinox - , , components of nondimensionalized angular velocity of the satellite - , , pitch (spin), yaw and roll, respectively - i nominal inclination of theith appendage in the orbital plane - - small parameter, (l/a 0)2 - j jth eigenvalue of a cantilever - gravitational constant - jk constant, Equation (11j) - , , body co-ordinate axes with origin at the c.m. of the deformed satellite - ( i + j + k), angular velocity of the satellite  相似文献
