Antimatter meteors, like ordinary ones, can be heated during their infall flight. However, this could happen by a completely different process than in the case of koinomatter meteors, since in the latter case the annihilation interactions mechanism is absent. In case of antimatter meteors, the temperature may be increased mainly due to the energy deposition effect, caused by the passage of the annihilation secondaries penetrating throughout the meteor. The energy deposition of the secondary particles produced in matter antimatter annihilation interactions as a function of the dimensions of an antimatter meteor is described in this paper.  相似文献

The existence of macroscopic regions with antibaryon excess in the baryon asymmetric Universe with general baryon excess is the possible consequence of practically all models of baryosynthesis. Diffusion of matter and antimatter to the border of antimatter domains defines the minimal scale of the antimatter domains surviving to the present time. A model of diffused antiworld is considered, in which the density within the surviving antimatter domains is too low to form gravitationally bound objects. The possibility to test this model by measurements of cosmic gamma ray fluxes is discussed. The expected gamma ray flux is found to be acceptable for modern cosmic gamma ray detectors and for those planned for the near future.  相似文献

The lifetime of antimatter fragments which may enter the Earth's atmosphere in the form of meteors is determined in this paper, for cases in which the annihilation may be accompanied by the evaporation process. The antimatter object can be penetrated by the nucleon - antinucleon annihilation products, which can be generated by interactions of atoms of antimatter fragments with the atmospheric molecules. Vaporization of its own antiatoms may be followed, in case of a high rate of annihilation, so that the lifetime of the antimatter object may become shorter, compared with the case of annihilation without vapor production of the meteor. The lifetime of the antimatter fragment is dependent upon the temperature of the object and thus vaporization of such an object would last for as long as =R/, where is the intensity of evaporation, its density andR its radius.  相似文献

The possibility that annihilation is a major source of energy in cosmic physics is discussed. Since Klein suggested that the Universe might be matter-antimatter symmetric over two decades ago, there have been a significant number of papers developing the consequences of this view. These, however, have been largely ignored in the general literature. There have also been a number of papers claiming to prove that there cannot be antimatter anywhere in the observable Universe. In the first part of this paper an assessment of the differing views is given, and it is shown that none of the arguments against antimatter is convincing. The existence of antimatter is not in conflict with any observational fact. The reason for the negative attitude towards the existence of antimatter seems to be that this view is in conflict with a number of speculative but generally accepted theories. However, recent magnetospheric and heliospheric research, includingin situ measurements of cosmic plasmas, is now drastically changing cosmic plasma physics in a way that leads to growing scepticism about quite a few of the speculative theories. An attempt is made to develop a simple phenomenological model of QSOs based on star-antistar collisions. This model can account for such basic observational properties as the acceleration to very large (non-cosmological) velocities, the existence of broad emission lines, and at the same time narrow absorption lines with different redshifts. The absence of blueshifts is also explained. The model predicts that relatively young QSOs should be at cosmological distances whereas the old ones may very well be much closer to us than indicated by their redshift.  相似文献

The momentum loss for a possible antimatter meteor entrance can be described by the combination of two terms. One which can be characterized by the mechanism of annihilation and a second one, the well known mechanism, which is common for all koinomatter (ordinary) meteors. That is, the momentum loss caused by the air molecules swept up by the moving object. We discuss, in this paper, the contribution of the rocket effect caused by the action of the secondaries which can be produced by the annihilation interactions of the antiatoms with the air molecules. The momentum loss of an iron type meteor made of antimatter, as a function of its equivalent radius R, can be described by the formula, J (MeV/c) = 8R (cm), for values of R within the range 1 cm < R < 5 cm and can be resulted by a single annihilation interaction of a nucleon-antinucleon pair.  相似文献

The first results of the television observations of meteors at the Ondejov Observatory are presented. It is shown that three spectral components may be distinguished in meteors: cool meteoric, hot meteoric and hot atmospheric. The intensity ratio of these components varies strongly even in meteors of the same velocity and within the records of single meteors. This is evidence for variations in the ablation process and in the formation of the shock wave. The so called calcium anomaly is in fact only a demonstration of these variations.  相似文献

With the use of the most powerful stream-search technique in existence, we have detected 275 streams in the synoptic-year (December 2, 1968–December 14, 1969) sample of 19 698 radio meteors, most of which were not reported before. About 16% of all meteors in the sample belong to these streams. We have confirmed the existence of two-thirds of the 83 streams detected by us previously in the 1961–65 sample of radio meteors. Some of the new streams have most uncommon orbits. A new, rich stream with a revolution period of about 30yr has been discovered. Streams of low inclination are often detected at both nodes. A computer technique, developed for determining the two parameters of the D-distribution of meteor orbits in a stream, has been applied to the 275 streams. A number of known comet-meteor associations have been confirmed, and a few new possible associations established. The previously detected orbital similarity between the minor planet Adonis and a few radio streams (including a major, broad stream) has been reinforced, but we have so far failed to prove the evolutionary relationship more quantitatively. Several possible associations with other Earth-crossing asteroids, with the meteorite P?íbram, and with a few fireballs are suggested. The mean space density in streams is shown to be much below the sporadic density, but the central density may significantly exceed the sporadic density. The derived absolute stream-density values are in an order-of-magnitude agreement with space densities estimated from the cometary production rates of solid material of a comparable particle size. Plots on a height-velocity diagram of both the individual radio meteors and the radio streams fail to exhibit the discrete-level structure known to exist for photographic meteors.  相似文献

We wonder if a cyclic universe may be dominated alternatively by matter and antimatter. Such a scenario demands a mechanism for transformation of matter to antimatter (or antimatter to matter) during the final stage of a big crunch. By giving an example, we have shown that in principle such a mechanism is possible. Our mechanism is based on a hypothetical repulsion between matter and antimatter, existing at least deep inside the horizon of a black hole. When universe is reduced to a supermassive black hole of a small size, a very strong field of the conjectured force might create (through a Schwinger type mechanism) particle-antiparticle pairs from the quantum vacuum. The amount of antimatter created from the vacuum is equal to the decrease of mass of the black hole and violently repelled from it. When the size of the black hole is sufficiently small, the creation of antimatter may become so fast, that matter of our Universe might be transformed to antimatter in a fraction of second. Such a fast conversion of matter into antimatter may look as a Big Bang. Our mechanism prevents a singularity; a new cycle might start with an initial size more than 30 orders of magnitude greater than the Planck length, suggesting that there is no need for inflationary scenario in Cosmology. In addition, there is no need to invoke CP violation for explanation of matter-antimatter asymmetry. Simply, our present day Universe is dominated by matter, because the previous universe was dominated by antimatter.  相似文献

There is something unknown in the cosmos. Something big. Which causes the acceleration of the Universe expansion, that is perhaps the most surprising and unexpected discovery of the last decades, and thus represents one of the most pressing mysteries of the Universe. The current standard ΛCDM model uses two unknown entities to make everything fit: dark energy and dark matter, which together would constitute more than 95 % of the energy density of the Universe. A bit like saying that we have understood almost nothing, but without openly admitting it. Here we start from the recent theoretical results that come from the extension of general relativity to antimatter, through CPT symmetry. This theory predicts a mutual gravitational repulsion between matter and antimatter. Our basic assumption is that the Universe contains equal amounts of matter and antimatter, with antimatter possibly located in cosmic voids, as discussed in previous works. From this scenario we develop a simple cosmological model, from whose equations we derive the first results. While the existence of the elusive dark energy is completely replaced by gravitational repulsion, the presence of dark matter is not excluded, but not strictly required, as most of the related phenomena can also be ascribed to repulsive-gravity effects. With a matter energy density ranging from ~5 % (baryonic matter alone, and as much antimatter) to ~25 % of the so-called critical density, the present age of the Universe varies between about 13 and 15 Gyr. The SN Ia test is successfully passed, with residuals comparable with those of the ΛCDM model in the observed redshift range, but with a clear prediction for fainter SNe at higher z. Moreover, this model has neither horizon nor coincidence problems, and no initial singularity is requested. In conclusion, we have replaced all the tough problems of the current standard cosmology (including the matter-antimatter asymmetry) with only one question: is the gravitational interaction between matter and antimatter really repulsive as predicted by the theory and as the observation of the Universe seems to suggest? We are awaiting experimental responses.  相似文献

Hyperbolic meteor orbits from the catalog of 64,650 meteors observed by the multistation video meteor network located in Japan (SonotaCo 2009) have been investigated with the aim of determining the relation between the frequency of hyperbolic and interstellar meteors. The proportion of hyperbolic meteors in the data decreased significantly (from 11.58% to 3.28%) after a selection of quality orbits, which shows its dependence on the quality of observations. Initially, the hyperbolic orbits were searched for meteors unbound due to planetary perturbation. It was determined that 22 meteors from the 7489 hyperbolic orbits in the catalog (and 2 from the selection of the orbits with the highest quality) had had a close encounter with a planet, none of which, however, produced essential changes in their orbits. Similarly, the fraction of hyperbolic orbits in the data, which could be hyperbolic by reason of a meteor's interstellar origin, was determined to be at most 3.9 × 10?2. From the statistical point of view, the vast majority of hyperbolic meteors in the database have definitely been caused by inaccuracy in the velocity determination. This fact does not necessarily assume great measurement errors, since, especially near the parabolic limit, a small error in the value of the heliocentric velocity of a meteor can create an artificial hyperbolic orbit that does not really exist. The results show that the remaining 96% of meteoroids with apparent hyperbolic orbits belong to the solar system meteoroid population. This is also supported by their high abundance (about 50%) among the meteor showers.  相似文献

The hyperbolic meteor orbits among the 4,581 photographic and 62,906 radar meteors of the IAU MDC have been analysed using statistical methods. It was shown that the vast majority of hyperbolic orbits has been caused by the dispersion of determined velocities. The large proportion of hyperbolic orbits among the known meteor showers strongly suggests the hyperbolicity of the meteors is not real. The number of apparent hyperbolic orbits increases inversely proportional to the difference between the mean heliocentric velocity of meteor shower and the parabolic velocity limit. The number of hyperbolic meteors in the investigated catalogues does not, in any case, represent the number of interstellar meteors in observational data. The apparent hyperbolicity of these orbits is caused by a high spread in velocity determination, shifting a part of the data through the parabolic limit.  相似文献

Some 5 per cent of bright meteors show rapid, quasi-periodic brightness variations. It is argued that this effect, observationally known as flickering, is a manifestation of the rotational modulation of surface mass loss through ablation of a non-spherical meteoroid. We develop a set of time-dependent, single-body ablation equations that include the effect of cross-section area modulation. We present a discussion of the effects that the rotation of a non-spherical meteoroid has on the resultant meteor light curve, and we look in depth at the data related to the fireball associated with the fall of the Innisfree meteorite. We find that the parent object to the Innisfree meteorite was spinning at a rotation frequency of 2.5 Hz when it encountered the Earth's upper atmosphere. We also find that the Innisfree parent body had an initial mass of about 20 kg and that the ratio of its semiminor and semimajor axes was about 0.5.  相似文献

Debiasing the velocity distribution of meteors observed by the Canadian Meteor Orbit Radar (CMOR) yields a distribution with large numbers of slow meteors. The distribution also contains significant numbers of hyperbolic meteors, in conflict with the expectation that interstellar meteors should be rare. In Moorhead et al. (2017a), we noted that measurement uncertainties were possibly smoothing the speed distribution and redistributing meteors to the extreme ends of the speed distribution. In this report, we use techniques analogous to image sharpening to remove the blurring caused by measurement uncertainties. The deconvolved speed distribution appears to have no meteors slower than 14 km s−1 and none faster than 74 km s−1. The result is to substantially raise the characteristic velocity of incoming meteoroids from 12.9 to 20.0 km s−1.  相似文献

Abstract— We report spectroscopic observations of meteors made from the FISTA aircraft on 1998 November 17 as a part of the Leonid multi-instrument aircraft campaign. Low-resolution spectra of 119 meteors of apparent visual magnitudes from +3 to ?4, corresponding to meteoroid masses from 10?6 to 10?3 kg, were obtained. After analyzing a representative sample of the spectra and comparing them to the spectra of Perseid meteors from the Ondrejov archive, the following conclusions were reached: Leonid meteoroids are very loose and disintegrate easily in the atmosphere. This leads to much faster evaporation of volatile Na than of other elements, an effect which is not observed in the Perseid meteors. Relative bulk abundances of Mg, Fe, Ca, and Na in Leonid meteors are nearly CI-chondritic within the uncertainty of the method (factor of 3). Smaller meteoroids tend to be poorer in Na, which is true also for Perseid meteors. Most meteoric vapor emissions could be reasonably well explained with the temperature of 4500 K. High-temperature meteoric emissions (Ca+, Mg+) are present only in bright meteors. Leonid spectra are very rich in atmospheric emissions of O, N, and N2, even at high altitudes and in faint meteors. These emissions are therefore not connected with the meteor shock wave. Thermal continuum is also present in the spectra. Organic material was not revealed.  相似文献

Optical observations remain the most widely used method for studying meteors, even though they are limited by daylight and weather conditions. Visual observations have been used throughout history. They lack the precision of other methods, since they rely on the judgment of observers for trajectory information. However, since no special equipment is required, visual observations are widespread, and can give valuable information on the activity profile of showers. Photographic observations are much more precise. Rotating shutters allow velocities to be determined, and networks of cameras permit the height and trajectory of a meteor to be calculated. Except for the Super-Schmidt observations at Harvard, most photographic observations record only meteors brighter than 0 magnitude. Video observations, using image intensifiers, can record much fainter meteors down to +7 magnitude. Processing is becoming very automated, so that large quantities of data can be reduced relatively easily. Most video cameras have much lower precision than photographic cameras, but new technologies are changing this. Spectral observations of meteors, using video or photographic techniques, can be used to investigate the chemistry of meteoroids, while telescopic observations allow measurements to be extended to much fainter meteors (+10 or fainter).  相似文献

The results of observations of the Orionid meteor shower are given in the period from 2006 to 2008. Observations were carried out using a highly sensitive camera FAVOR (FAst Variability Optical Registrator) a limiting magnitude of above +11.0m (for stars) and a field of view of 18° × 20°. Over the period of the shower from October 2 to November 7, 2006–2008, there were 3713 meteors. 449 of these meteors were associated with the Orionid meteor shower. The distributions of Orionid meteors by the stellar magnitude is presented. It turned out that most of meteors (65%) of this shower have a brightness of +5.0m-+7.0m. On each night of observation the index of meteor activity was calculated for Orionids.  相似文献

Abstract— In this paper, we provide an overview of meteors with high beginning height. During the recent Leonid meteor storms, as well as within the regular double station video observations of other meteor showers, we recorded 164 meteors with a beginning height above 130 km. We found that beginning heights between 130 and 150 km are quite usual, especially for the Leonid meteor shower. Conversely, meteors with beginning heights above 160 km are very rare even among Leonids. From the meteor light curves, we are able to distinguish two different processes that govern radiation of the meteors at different altitudes. Light curves vary greatly above 130 km and exhibit sudden changes in meteor brightness. Sputtering from the meteoroid surface is the dominating process during this phase of the meteor luminous trajectory. Around 130 km, the process switches to ablation and the light curves become similar to the light curves of standard meteors. The sputtering model was successfully applied to explain the difference in the beginning heights of high‐altitude Leonid and Perseid meteors. We show also that this process in connection with high altitude fragmentation could explain the anomalously high beginning heights of several relatively faint meteors.  相似文献

Abstract— In 1996, a broad outburst structure of bright Leonid meteors similar to the 1995 and the 1994 displays (Jenniskens, 1996; Langbroek, 1996b) was observed. In addition, a second narrow outburst structure of fainter meteors, which will be reported and discussed in this paper, has with certainty been observed. This observation marks the first detection of such a narrow structure in the new series of Leonid outbursts. It has a similar exponential activity behaviour and similar emphasis on fainter meteors as shown by the 1866 and 1966 Leonid storm structures. Similar narrow peaks have been observed in 1965 and 1969 (Jenniskens, 1995, 1996). The broad 1996 structure of bright meteors peaked at November 17.31 ± 0.04 (λ 235°.28 ± 0.04 (2000.0)). The additional narrow structure peaked at November 17.20 ± 0.01 (λ 235°.172 ± 0.007). The occurrence of the narrow peak can best be explained as a first modest sign of presence of the meteoroid structure that should be responsible for the expected meteor storm activity of the Leonids in 1998–1999. The appearance 0.°085 before the node of 55P/Tempel-Tuttle suggests that the expected 1998–1999 Leonid storms might peak just before passage through the node of the comet.  相似文献

One of the hypotheses to account for the cosmic gamma-ray bursts invokes collisions between antimatter bodies of asteroidal mass and stars. This paper points out that, should this idea be correct, the numbers suggest that the antimatter is cosmological, and that alocally measurable ratio might be used to determine the effective gain in mean mass density relevant to the possible closure of the Universe. The effective mass gain factor would have a minimum value of 2 and could be much larger.  相似文献
