ABSTRACT

This paper examines the potential of using GIS (Geographical Information Systems) in the field for environmental characterization, modelling and decision support particularly in isolated areas where data collection is difficult. Observations are based on experiences gained during two Anglo-Russian expeditions to the Altai Mountains of south central Siberia aimed at evaluating proposals for a new national park in the Katunsky Ridge area of the Belukha Massif. The use of GIS together with GPS (Global Positioning Systems) for primary data collection and verification/update of existing data is described and the use of field-based systems for on-the-spot environmental modelling and decision support is evaluated.  相似文献

Abstract

Growth in the available quantities of digital geographical data has led to major problems in maintaining and integrating data from multiple sources, required by users at differing levels of generalization. Existing GIS and associated database management systems provide few facilities specifically intended for handling spatial data at multiple scales and require time consuming manual intervention to control update and retain consistency between representations. In this paper the GEODYSSEY conceptual design for a multi-scale, multiple representation spatial database is presented and the results of experimental implementation of several aspects of the design are described. Object-oriented, deductive and procedural programming techniques have been applied in several contexts: automated update software, using probabilistic reasoning; deductive query processing using explicit stored semantic and spatial relations combined with geometric data; multiresolution spatial data access methods combining poini, line, area and surface geometry; and triangulation-based generalization software that detects and resolves topological inconsistency.  相似文献

Abstract

Rule-based classifiers are used regularly with geographical information systems to map categorical attributes on the basis of a set of numeric or unordered categorical attributes. Although a variety of methods exist for inducing rule-based classifiers from training data, these tend to produce large numbers of rules when the data has noise. This paper describes a method for inducing compact rule-sets whose classification accuracy can, at least in some domains, compare favourably with that achieved by larger less succinct rule-sets produced by alternative methods. One rule is induced for each output class. The condition list for this rule represents a box in n-dimensional attribute space, formed by intersecting conditions which exclude other classes. Despite this simplicity, the classifier performed well in the test application prediction of soil classes in the Port Hills, New Zealand, on the basis of regolith type and topographic attributes obtained from a digital terrain model.  相似文献

Abstract

The lack of a coherent theory underpinning geographical databases is a serious obstacle to research efforts in this field. This article attempts to construct part of such a theory, namely the formalization of the underlying object mode for geographical data whose spatial references are embedded in the plane. Questions of approximation and error analysis, while exposed and briefly discussed here, do not form a major part of the discussion. This work extends earlier work by giving a detailed construction of the classes and operations for spatial objects embedded in the plane. It goes on to provide an explicit link between this object model and its representation in computationally meaningful terms using classes of simplicial complexes and operations acting upon these classes.  相似文献

以哈尔滨市建成区土地利用作为研究对象,结合哈尔滨市所处发展阶段及土地利用现状特点构建评价指标体系,以DEA方法为手段,用Matlab软件进行数学计算,对哈尔滨市2001~2005年城市土地利用经济效益进行定量分析和评价。哈尔滨市土地利用经济效益水平一般,且土地投入有冗余。提出加强城市存量土地利用、注重不同用地类型的投资比例、调整产业结构三方面入手提出提高哈尔滨市土地利用经济效益的建议。  相似文献

Abstract

The Swedish Land Data Bank System has been developed in order to rationalize handling of data on real properties and land. The system replaces earlier manual systems for property and land registration. It interacts regularly with other EDP-based information systems and serves as a land information system (LIS) in a broad sense. The system is being steadily extended to cover all parts of the country. The costs for design, implementation and maintenance of the system are covered by reductions of costs for property and land registration.  相似文献

由于栅格数据便于空间分析,因而通常将矢量数据转化成栅格数据来进行空间分析.在转化过程中,选用不同的栅格大小,其面积和精度损失是不同的.针对这个问题,以重庆市110万的土地利用矢量数据为例,探讨了不同栅格大小下,各种土地利用类型在转化过程的面积和精度损失.研究表明(1)栅格大小<100m时,其精度损失均<3.3%.(2)在1000m时,其精度损失达到50%以上的地类有湖泊、水库坑塘、滩地、农村居民点用地、工交建设用地、戈壁、裸岩石地、平原区旱地和坡度>25°的旱地,这些地类的平均图斑大小均在<51hm2.(3)在30m~1000m间,平均图斑大小<82hm2的地类随着栅格的由小变大,其面积变得比实际面积小;平均图斑大小>101hm2的地类中除高盖度的草地和河渠之外,却与此相反.  相似文献

Observations assigned to any two classes in a choropleth map are expected to have attribute values that are different. Their values might not be statistically different, however, if the data are gathered from surveys, such as the American Community Survey, in which estimates have sampling error. This article presents an approach to determine class breaks using the class separability criterion, which refers to the levels of certainty that values in different classes are statistically different from each other. Our procedure determines class breaks that offer the highest levels of separability given the desired number of classes. The separability levels of all class breaks are included in a legend design to show the statistical likelihood that values on two sides of each class break are different. The legend and the associated separability information offer map readers crucial information about the reliability of the spatial patterns that could result from the chosen classification method.  相似文献

径流曲线数模型(SCS-CN模型)是国内外最受欢迎的地表径流评价方法,该模型只需综合参数--径流曲线数(CN),该参数反映降雨前流域的地表和土壤特征。本文的目的是确定北京地区径流曲线数模型中的径流曲线数。研究采用了北京密云、延庆、门头沟64个坡面径流小区的降雨径流资料,用算术平均值法计算出小区径流曲线数值,用定水头法测定了北京主要土壤类型和土地利用类型的饱和导水率,用经验公式确定出64个坡面径流小区的饱和导水率值,并根据饱和导水率确定了北京地区和坡面径流小区的水文土壤组类型,得到了北京不同水文土壤组、土地利用下的径流曲线数数据库。结果表明:北京地区主要水文土壤组为B类;土地利用、水土保持措施、植被盖度和前期土壤湿度等对径流曲线数有显著影响;根据北京径流小区径流资料得到的径流曲线数值比美国土壤保持局查算表提供的数值要大。本研究结果可为该区域的地表水资源量评价以及土地利用管理提供服务。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Building footprints are among the most predominant features in urban areas, and provide valuable information for urban planning, solar energy suitability analysis, etc. We aim to automatically and rapidly identify building footprints by leveraging deep learning techniques and the increased availability of remote sensing datasets at high spatial resolution. The task is computationally challenging due to the use of large training datasets and large number of parameters. In related work, You-Only-Look-Once (YOLO) is a state-of-the-art deep learning framework for object detection. However, YOLO is limited in its capacity to identify small objects that appear in groups, which is the case for building footprints. We propose a LOcally-COnstrained (LOCO) You-Only-Look-Once framework to detect small and densely-distributed building footprints. LOCO is a variant of YOLO. Its layer architecture is determined by the spatial characteristics of building footprints and it uses a constrained regression modeling to improve the robustness of building size predictions. We also present an invariant augmentation based voting scheme to further improve the precision in the prediction phase. Experiments show that LOCO can greatly improve the solution quality of building detection compared to related work.  相似文献

从小区域(乡域)尺度出发,综合考虑人口、经济、技术、市场等主要人文因素对绿洲土地利用变化的驱动作用,建立系统动力学(SD)模型,并以天山北麓三工河流域为例,用1978—1998年的实际数据验证了模型的适用性和可靠性,在此基础上,模拟和分析了三种发展模式下本区域1998—2050年土地利用变化过程,结果表明:SD方法对于乡域尺度的土地利用变化研究是适宜的;三种模式下土地利用变化规律表现出明显的差异性,人口、经济、技术、市场等因素对本区域土地利用变化具有显著驱动作用。  相似文献

利用遥感、GIS技术和指数分析软件确定最佳分析尺度,对广州市景观格局进行量化研究。对14个不同粒度的栅格图分别进行35个相关指数运算,根据15个敏感指数确定最佳分析尺度为120 m;选取空间组成和空间构型两方面的系列指数,在此尺度下对研究区域进行指数运算和格局分析。研究结果表明:广州是以林地、水田和旱地为主要景观类型的复合景观结构,优势景观明显,3种主体景观类型集中连片、分布广泛;建设用地比例比全国平均水平偏高;建设用地和水库坑塘斑块密度大,平均斑块面积小,景观破碎度较高。景观格局的量化受尺度效应影响,表现出空间异质性的尺度依赖性,因此在格局分析时需选择最佳分析尺度,突出格局的尺度性。  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the geography of poverty in the state of Illinois and to use these empirical results as a basis for classroom discussions and exercises intended to involve students in the current debate on poverty. Although poverty is generally associated with inner city locations, our results indicate that poverty levels are higher in rural areas, particularly those that are not adjacent to metropolitan locations. The prevalence of low-wage employment and the growing number of single-parent families in rural areas are closely linked to increased poverty. Student surveys and the presentation of data were successful in generating discussion among undergraduate students at Western Illinois University. Student comments revealed a high degree of concern about poverty and sensitivity to the circumstances of the poor.  相似文献

Numerous studies have shown both anecdotal and formal evidence of the benefits students obtain from doing writing activities in classes. Little formal discussion exists about how student writing in geography classes professionally affects faculty. In this article, focus shifts from student-derived benefits of writing in classes to faculty challenges and rewards for implementing writing in their classes. Based on the experience of participating in a Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Fellows program, the authors discuss how faculty overcame challenges and reaped the benefits of student writing in their teaching and scholarly pursuits.  相似文献

Many geophysical data, such as the frequencies of the free oscillations of the Earth, depend on more than one type of model parameter. For inverse problems depending on multiple parameter classes, an iterative solution procedure is introduced in which each parameter class can be treated in the same way. This approach has considerable advantages where a large number of parameters are employed, but can still be useful for smaller systems.
  The iteration by parameter class commences by solving for the direct dependence on a particular parameter class, and at subsequent iterations the cross-dependences between classes are introduced. The update affects only the right-hand side of the equations, and, because the same sets of equations have to be solved at each iteration, an efficient computational implementation can be made. The largest set of equations that has to be solved at a time corresponds to the number of variables in an individual parameter class rather than the full set of parameters, which confers substantial computational benefits for very large problems.  相似文献

Abstract

Informal journal writing in freshman level World Regional Geography classes is discussed as an active learning method that helps students to develop their spatial perspective and gain a better understanding of the interconnected nature of geographic phenomena. In particular, students read about events in the world and write their ideas about the geographic nature and implications of those events. Thinking spatially and thinking critically by creating their own framework for interpreting the event and applying concepts learned in class means that students are actively participating in their own learning. Ongoing instructor feedback and assessment are essential to this learning activity and are discussed as part of this exercise.  相似文献

利用1980、1988、1994年的遥感影像,通过应用最大似然法和概率松弛法对深圳市土地利用进行了测量。在此基础上,运用分类结果求得研究区土地利用变化的转移矩阵,据此分析了深圳上15年来土地利用变化的空间过程。结果表明:深圳市土地利用纺要表现为原有农田、果园用地显著减少,城镇用地沿海岸和主要公路干线迅速增加。这一土地利用变化的驱动力主要是深圳经济特区的开放政策、城镇人口迅速增长、外资大量涌入和以房  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Terrain feature detection is a fundamental task in terrain analysis and landscape scene interpretation. Discovering where a specific feature (i.e. sand dune, crater, etc.) is located and how it evolves over time is essential for understanding landform processes and their impacts on the environment, ecosystem, and human population. Traditional induction-based approaches are challenged by their inefficiency for generalizing diverse and complex terrain features as well as their performance for scalable processing of the massive geospatial data available. This paper presents a new deep learning (DL) approach to support automatic detection of terrain features from remotely sensed images. The novelty of this work lies in: (1) a terrain feature database containing 12,000 remotely sensed images (1,000 original images and 11,000 derived images from data augmentation) that supports data-driven model training and new discovery; (2) a DL-based object detection network empowered by ensemble learning and deep and deeper convolutional neural networks to achieve high-accuracy object detection; and (3) fine-tuning the model’s characteristics and behaviors to identify the best combination of hyperparameters and other network factors. The introduction of DL into geospatial applications is expected to contribute significantly to intelligent terrain analysis, landscape scene interpretation, and the maturation of spatial data science.  相似文献
