The asteroseismic observations provided by current and future missions like CoRoT or Kepler will have a quality closer to those obtained for the Sun. In this context, tools and methods developed for helioseismology can be applied to other stars. In this paper, we focus on solar‐like oscillations of stars with an unknown rotation axis inclination and study, by means of maximum‐likelihood estimation, the errors on the determination of l = 1 p‐mode parameters. The kinematics and elemental abundances of resolved stars in the nearby Universe can be used to infer conditions at high redshift, trace how galaxies evolve and constrain the nature of dark matter. This approach is complementary to direct study of systems at high redshift, but I will show that analysis of individual stars allows one to break degeneracies, such as between star formation rate and stellar Initial Mass Function, that complicate the analysis of unresolved, distant galaxies (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The Hipparcos Space Astrometry Mission photometric observations of V398 Lac, led to the discovery of its variability, allowing to classify it as an eclipsing binary with an orbital period of about 5.4 days. This prompted us to acquire highresolution échelle spectra with the aim of performing accurate radial velocity measurements and to determine the main physical parameters of the system's components. We present, for the first time, a double‐lined radial velocity curve and determine the orbital and physical parameters of the two components, that can be classified both as late B‐type stars. In particular, we obtained an orbital inclination i ∼ 85°. With this value of the inclination, we deduced masses M1 = 3.83±0.35 M andM2 = 3.29±0.32 M, and radii R1 = 4.89±0.18 R and R2 = 2.45±0.11 R for the more massive and less massive components, respectively. Both components are well inside their own Roche lobes. The mass ratio is M2/M1 ∼ 0.86. We derived also the projected rotational velocities as v1 sin i = 79±2 km s–1 and v2 sin i = 19±2 km s–1. Our measurements indicate that the rotation of the primary star is essentially pseudo‐synchronized with the orbital velocity at the periastron, while the secondary appears to rotate very slowly and has not yet attained synchronization. We present a catalogue of radial velocities of Galactic stars with high precision astrometric data CRVAD which is the result of the cross‐identification of star lists from the General Catalog of Average Radial Velocities (GCRV) and from the homogeneous All‐sky Compiled Catalogue of 2.5Million Stars (ASCC‐2.5). The CRVAD includes accurate J2000 equatorial coordinates, proper motions and trigonometric parallaxes in the Hipparcos system, Johnson's BV photometric data, spectral types, multiplicity and variability flags from the ASCC‐2.5, and radial velocities, stellar magnitudes and spectral types from the GCRV for 34553 ASCC‐2.5 stars. The CRVAD was used for the construction of a sample of standard stars with accurate astrometric, photometric and radial velocity data for the RAVE project. A second application of the CRVAD , the radial velocity determination for 292 open clusters (including 97 with previously unknown radial velocities), using their newly defined members from proper motions and photometry in the ASCC‐2.5, is briefly described. We review and discuss horizontal branch (HB) stars in a broad astrophysical context, including both variable and non-variable stars. A reassessment of the Oosterhoff dichotomy is presented, which provides unprecedented detail regarding its origin and systematics. We show that the Oosterhoff dichotomy and the distribution of globular clusters in the HB morphology-metallicity plane both exclude, with high statistical significance, the possibility that the Galactic halo may have formed from the accretion of dwarf galaxies resembling present-day Milky Way satellites such as Fornax, Sagittarius, and the LMC—an argument which, due to its strong reliance on the ancient RR Lyrae stars, is essentially independent of the chemical evolution of these systems after the very earliest epochs in the Galaxy’s history. Convenient analytical fits to isochrones in the HB type–[Fe/H] plane are also provided. In this sense, a rediscussion of the second-parameter problem is also presented, focusing on the cases of NGC 288/NGC 362, M13/M3, the extreme outer-halo globular clusters with predominantly red HBs, and the metal-rich globular clusters NGC 6388 and NGC 6441. The recently revived possibility that the helium abundance may play an important role as a second parameter is also addressed, and possible constraints on this scenario discussed. We critically discuss the possibility that the observed properties of HB stars in NGC 6388 and NGC 6441 might be accounted for if these clusters possess a relatively minor population of helium-enriched stars. A technique is proposed to estimate the HB types of extragalactic globular clusters on the basis of integrated far-UV photometry. The importance of bright type II Cepheids as tracers of faint blue HB stars in distant systems is also emphasized. The relationship between the absolute V magnitude of the HB at the RR Lyrae level and metallicity, as obtained on the basis of trigonometric parallax measurements for the star RR Lyr, is also revisited. Taking into due account the evolutionary status of RR Lyr, the derived relation implies a true distance modulus to the LMC of (mM)0=18.44±0.11. Techniques providing discrepant slopes and zero points for the M V (RRL)–[Fe/H] relation are briefly discussed. We provide a convenient analytical fit to theoretical model predictions for the period change rates of RR Lyrae stars in globular clusters, and compare the model results with the available data. Finally, the conductive opacities used in evolutionary calculations of low-mass stars are also investigated. M. Catelan is John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellow.  相似文献

We have derived fundamental parameters for the previously unstudied concentrated Galactic open clusters Berkeley 77, NGC2587, BH58 and ESO324‐SC15 by means of integrated spectroscopy in the range 3800–6800 Å. The cluster integrated spectra are compared with those of solar metallicity template spectra of Galactic open clusters with known parameters. The spectra were obtained at CASLEO (San Juan, Argentina) with a resolution of 14 Å.We estimated simultaneously age and foreground interstellar reddening by comparing the continuum distribution and line strengths of the cluster spectra with those of template spectra. Berkeley 77 was found to be an old cluster of 3–4 Gyr, while the remaining three clusters are between 400 and 1000 Myr old. The derived foreground reddening values range from E (BV) = 0.0 in NGC2587 and ESO324‐SC15 to approximately 0.30 in Berkeley 77. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

For an understanding of Galactic stellar populations in the SDSS filter system well defined stellar samples are needed. The nearby stars provide a complete stellar sample representative for the thin disc population. We compare the filter transformations of different authors applied to the main sequence stars from F to K dwarfs to SDSS filter system and discuss the properties of the main sequence. The location of the mean main sequence in colour‐magnitude diagrams is very sensitive to systematic differences in the filter transformation. A comparison with fiducial sequences of star clusters observed in g ′, r ′, and i ′ show good agreement. Theoretical isochrones from Padua and from Dartmouth have still some problems, especially in the (r i) colours. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

A study of four open clusters in the direction of the Galactic anticentre (l = 186°, b = +2°) is presented. In a field of 8.32 square degrees proper motions and B magnitudes for about 79 000 stars down to 19.5 were determined on Tautenburg Schmidt plates. For more than 15 500 of them U magnitudes down to 17.3 could be obtained. Additionally, OCA Schmidt plates were used to determine V, R magnitudes in a larger field of 24.45 square degrees for 271 000 stars down to V = 18.2. For stars brighter than V = 15.5 an accuracy of about 1.5 mas/yr has been estimated for proper motions. The rms errors of stellar magnitudes and colour indices are 0.09 – 0.12 mag. Several open clusters have been already known in this direction of the sky, e.g. NGC 2168 or M 35 (C 0605+243), NGC 2158 (C 0604+241) and IC 2157 (C 0601+240). Inspecting the plates and analysing the colour-magnitude diagrams and published data, we could identify an additional anonymous cluster C 0605+242 with a projection on the sky near the centre of M 35 but at a larger distance from the Sun. The cluster membership determination was carried out using information on spatial and proper motion distributions of stars in the field. The colour-magnitude diagrams were derived down to the limiting stellar magnitude. For each cluster the interstellar extinction Av, the diameters of the core and corona, the ages and spatial velocity components (V,W) relative to the LSR in the Y,Z – Galactic directions were determined. The distances to the clusters of 960 pc, 2 600 pc, 2 520 pc and 3 700 pc were obtained for M 35, IC 2157, C 0605+242 and NGC 2158. They show the loci of the clusters in the Local and Perseus spiral arms and at external border of Perseus arm, respectively.  相似文献

We present FOcal Reducer/low dispersion Spectrograph-1 spectra (from the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope) of a sample of 34 faint  20.0 < g * < 21.1  A-type stars selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Early Data Release, with the goal of measuring the velocity dispersion of blue horizontal branch (BHB) stars in the remote Galactic halo,   R ∼ 80 kpc  . We show that colour selection with  1.08 < u *− g * < 1.40  and  −0.2 < g *− r * < −0.04  minimizes contamination of the sample by less luminous blue stragglers. In classifying the stars we confine our attention to the 20 stars with spectra of signal-to-noise ratio >15 Å−1. Classification produces a sample of eight BHB stars at distances  65–102 kpc  from the Sun (mean 80 kpc), which represents the most distant sample of Galactic stars with measured radial velocities. The dispersion of the measured radial component of the velocity with respect to the centre of the Galaxy is  58 ± 15 km s−1  . This value is anomalously low in comparison with measured values for stars at smaller distances, as well as for satellites at similar distances. Seeking an explanation for the low measured velocity dispersion, further analysis reveals that six of the eight remote BHB stars are plausibly associated with a single orbit. Three previously known outer halo carbon stars also appear to belong to this stream. The velocity dispersion of all nine stars relative to the orbit is only  15 ± 4 km s−1  . Further observations along the orbit are required to trace the full extent of this structure on the sky.  相似文献

In this paper, the fourth in a series, we examine again one of the implications of the Lin‐Shu density‐wave theory, specifically, the noncircular systematic motion of the Galactic objects. Our previous investigation is extended by analyzing simultaneously both the line‐of‐sight and transversal velocities of a sample of open clusters for which velocities, distances and ages are available. The ordinary equations of the Oort‐Lindblad theory of galactic differential rotation are used. The minor effects caused by the two‐dimensional tightly‐wound density waves are also taken into account. The published data of 242 currently known optically visible clusters having distances r < 3 kpc from the Sun and ‐200 < z < 200 pc from the Galactic plane, and ages 2 × 108 < t < 2 × 109 yr are collected from Dias et al. (2014), excluding extremely far, high‐velocity, young and old objects in our fitting. The most noteworthy result is the fact that the parameters of Lin–Shu type density waves estimated from two independent line‐of‐sight and transversal along the Galactic longitude velocities are nearly equal. We argue that the resemblance of these Galactic wave structures is so remarkable that no doubt is felt as to the theory's truth with respect to these data. The results obtained allow us to conclude that several low‐m trailing density‐wave patterns with different number of spiral arms m (say, m = 1, 2, 3, and 4), pitch angles (about 5°, 8°, 11°, and 14°, respectively) and amplitudes of the perturbed gravitational potential may coexist in the Galaxy. The latter suggests the asymmetric multiarm, not well‐organized (“flocculent”) spiral structure of the system. (© 2015 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

This investigation presents a new analysis of the spatial distribution of the bright early‐type stars in the field of Northern Monoceros. A database of all O–B9 stars with available uvbyβ photometry is collated and a homogeneous distance scale is established for the clusters and layers of field stars. We provide revised distances for NGC 2264 and NGC 2244 of 833±38 (s.e.) pc and 1585±60 (s.e.) pc, respectively. We present arguments that there might be substructures in the clusters projected along the line of sight. According to the present sample the classical Mon OB2 association at 1.6 kpc is represented by a relatively compact group at 1.26 kpc in the vicinity of NGC 2244 and a layer of massive stars located between 1.5 and 3 kpc (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Under the two initial 1‐D one parameter velocity distribution forms (one is normal, the other is exponential), the z direction scale height evolution of normal neutron stars in the Galaxy is studied by numerical simulation. We do statistics for the cases at different time segments, also do statistics for the cumulative cases made of each time segment. The results show in the cumulative cases the evolution curves of the scale heights are smoother than in the each time segment, i.e., the cumulation improve the signal‐to‐noise ratio. Certainly the evolution cases are different at different Galactic disk locations, which also have very large difference from the average cases in the whole disk. In the initial stages of z evolution of normal neutron stars, after the beginning transient states, the cumulative scale heights increase linearly with time, and the cumulative scale height increasing rates have linear relationship with the initial velocity distribution parameters, which have larger fluctuation in the vicinity of the Sun than in the whole disk. We utilize the linear relationship of the cumulative scale height increasing rates vs. the initial velocity distribution parameters in the vicinity of the Sun to make comparison with the observation near the Sun. The results show if there is no magnetic decay, then the deserved initial velocity parameters are obvious lower than the present well known results from some authors; whereas if introducing magnetic decay, for the 1‐D normal case we can make consistence among concerning results using magnetic decay time values which are supported by some authors, while for the 1‐D exponential case the results show the lackness of young pulsar samples in the larger z in the vicinity of the Sun (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We report new radial velocity measurements for 30 candidate runaway stars. We revise their age estimates and compute their past trajectories in the Galaxy in order to determine their birthplaces. We find that seven of the stars could be younger than ∼100 Myr, and for five of them we identify multiple young clusters and associations in which they may have formed. For the youngest star in the sample, HIP 9470, we suggest a possible ejection scenario in a supernova event, and also that it may be associated with the young pulsar PSR J0152–1637. Our spectroscopic observations reveal seven of the stars in the sample of 30 to be previously unknown spectroscopic binaries. Orbital solutions for four of them are reported here as well. This series of high quality elemental abundance analyses of mostly main‐sequence band normal and peculiar B, A, and F stars defines their properties and provides data for the comparison with the analyses of somewhat similar stars and with theoretical predictions. Most use high dispersion and high S/N (≥ 200) spectrograms obtained with CCD detectors at the long camera of the Coudé spectrograph of the 1.22‐m Dominion Astrophysical Observatory telescope. Here we reanalyze 21 Aql with better quality spectra and increase the number of stars consistently analyzed in the spectral range B5 to A2 by analyzing three new stars for this series. In the early A stars the normal and non‐mCP stars have abundances with overlapping ranges. But more stars are needed especially in the B5 to B9 range. ξ2 Cet on average has a solar composition with a few abundances outside the solar range while both 21 Aql and ι Aql have abundances marginally less than solar. The abundances of ι Del are greater than solar with a few elements such as Ca being less than solar. It is an Am star (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The behaviour of the  Δν= 2 CO  bands around 2.3 μm was examined by comparing observed and synthetic spectra in stars in globular clusters of different metallicity. Changes in the 12C/13C isotopic ratio and the carbon abundances were investigated in stars from 3500–4900 K in the galactic globular clusters M71, M5, M3 and M13, covering the metallicity range from −0.7 to −1.6. We found relatively low carbon abundances that are not affected by the value of oxygen abundance. For most giants, the 12C/13C ratios determined are consistent with the equilibrium value for the CN cycle. This suggests complete mixing on the ascent of the red giant branch, in contrast to the substantially higher values predicted across this range of parameters by the current generation of models. We found some evidence for a larger dispersion of 12C/13C in giants of M71 of metallicity  [μ]=[M/H]=−0.7  in comparison with the giants of M3, M5 and M13, which are more metal deficient. Finally, we show evidence for lower 12C/13C in giants of globular clusters with lower metallicities, as predicted by theory.  相似文献

As stars close to the galactic centre have short orbital periods it has been possible to trace large fractions of their orbits in the recent years. Previously the data of the orbit of the star S2 have been fitted with Keplerian orbits corresponding to a massive black hole (MBH) with a mass of MBH = 3–4 × 106M implying an insignificant cusp mass. However, it has also been shown that the central black hole resides in a ∼1″ diameter stellar cluster of a priori unknown mass. In a spherical potential which is neither Keplerian nor harmonic, orbits will precess resulting in inclined rosetta shaped trajectories on the sky. In this case, the assumption of non‐Keplerian orbits is a more physical approach. It is also the only approach through which cusp mass information can be obtained via stellar dynamics of the cusp members. This paper presents the first exemplary modelling efforts in this direction. Using positional and radial data of star S2, we find that there could exist an unobserved extended mass component of several 105M forming a so‐called ‘cusp’ centered on the black hole position. Considering only the fraction of the cusp mass Mequation/tex2gif-inf-4.gif within the apo‐center of the S2 orbit we find as an upper limit that Mequation/tex2gif-inf-6.gif/(MBH + Mequation/tex2gif-inf-9.gif) ≤ 0.05. A large extended cusp mass, if present, is unlikely to be composed of sub‐solar mass constituents, but could be explained rather well by a cluster of high M/L stellar remnants, which we find to form a stable configuration. We present BVIc photometry of the brightest stars andcompact star clusters in NGC 2976, a dwarf galaxy in the interacting M81/M82 group. Deep CCD images of the galaxy were obtained with the 6m‐Telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory (Russia) at arcsec resolution. About 290 young stars and concentrated young clusters were measured. Supplementary data in the ultraviolet are taken from the literature. The extinction to the measured objects is comparatively low, E(BV) ∼ 0.15 .. 0.20 mag. We estimate the ages of youngest resolved stars and concentrated star clusters to be ∼5 · 106 years. This population is concentrated in a broad stripe facing M81. In the central disk the population is a bit older, about 8 · 106 years, this may be a hint to an outward spreading star formation process. The metallicity of the disk population is estimatedas solar (z ∼ 0.02) from a fitting to Padova theoretical stellar isochrones.  相似文献

This paper presents extended analyses of β UMa (A0mA1 IV‐V), α Dra (A0 III), π Dra (A2 IIIs), and κ Cep (B9 III) which have previously been studied in this series. α Dra is a metal‐poor star while κ Cep has solar abundances. Both β UMa and π Dra are Am stars. Whenever possible, more accurate and precise gf values replace older values. High S/N (200+) and high dispersion Dominion Astrophysical Observatory spectrograms to the red of previously obtained spectra supplement the observations. The derived rotational velocities are 45, 25, 26, and 23 km s–1, respectively. These LTE fine analyses use the ATLAS9 and the WIDTH9 programs of R. L. Kurucz. The results of the extended and the previous analyses are in good agreement. Thus in the past decade a significant improvement in the system of gf values has not been achieved although for many lines there have been changes. The use of additional regions has increased the quality of some results (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

A homogeneous data‐base collating all uvbyβ photometry available at present for O‐B9 stars in the field of IC 2602 is presented. The characteristics of the field are studied. Four spatially coherent groups can be distinguished. A low reddened compact group located at 156 ± 6 pc is identi.ed with IC 2602, followed by background layers at 546 ± 33 pc, 1117 ± 61 pc, and possibly at 2626 ± 163 pc. The apparent depth of the first three layers is about 1 kpc, which is consistent with the thickness of a spiral arm. There is an indication for the existence of a region free of massive luminous stars between 1.2 and 2.6 kpc, which could be associated with interarm space between the Local Association and the distant spiral structures toward Carina. A comparison between the photometric and Hipparcos parallaxes is presented. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献
