The propagation of weak waves has been studied by taking into account the influence of thermal radiative field. The singular surface theory is used to determine the modes of wave propagation and to evaluate the behaviour at the wave head. The effects of thermal radiation, conduction and the initial wave front curvature on the nonlinear breaking of weak waves are discussed. It is concluded that, under the thermal radiation effects, the shock wave formation is either disallowed or delayed. On the other hand, the thermal conduction effects destabilize the waves.  相似文献

The propagation of weak discontinuities headed by a wavefront and their formation into shock waves are investigated in a thermally-radiative ideal plasma. It is found that all compressive waves grow without bound only if the magnitude of initial discontinuity associated with the wave exceeds a critical value. In particular, the grow and decay of weak discontinuities in plane, cylindrical, and spherical geometries have been discussed and the shock formation distance and time in all these cases have been derived in presence of magnetic field and radiation, separately.  相似文献

We model the propagation of a coronal shock wave, using nonlinear geometrical acoustics. The method is based on the Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin (WKB) approach and takes into account the main properties of nonlinear waves: i) dependence of the wave front velocity on the wave amplitude, ii) nonlinear dissipation of the wave energy, and iii) progressive increase in the duration of solitary shock waves. We address the method in detail and present results of the modeling of the propagation of shock-associated extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) waves as well as Moreton waves along the solar surface in the simplest solar corona model. The calculations reveal deceleration and lengthening of the waves. In contrast, waves considered in the linear approximation keep their length unchanged and slightly accelerate.  相似文献

It is generally believed that the heating of the solar corona is caused by waves originating in the photosphere and propagating into the corona where their energy is dissipated. The medium through which these waves propagate is in general permeated by magnetic fields complicating the behaviour of this propagation considerably. We have therefore analysed the wave motions in a plasma permeated by constant magnetic and gravitational fields. In general, three waves modes were found, which we called the + mode, –mode, and the Alfvén mode. Each mode was found to be strongly coupled to each of the three kinds of motion; acoustic, gravity, and hydromagnetic. However, the Alfvén mode was found to be separable from the dispersion relation, and therefore independent of compressibility and gravity. The local dispersion relation is derived and expressed in nondimensional form independent of the constants that describe a particular atmosphere. From the dispersion relation one can show that rising waves propagate either with a constant or a growing wave amplitude depending on the magnitudes and directions of the gravitational field, magnetic field, and the wave vector. The variation of the density with height is taken into account by a generalized W.K.B. method. Equations are found which give the height at which wave reflection occurs, giving the upper bound for possible wave propagation.Work supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under Research Grant NGR-29-001-016.On leave of absence from the Desert Research Institute and Department of Physics, University of Nevada, Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.  相似文献

A theoretical investigation of the one dimensional dynamics of nonlinear electrostatic dust ion-acoustic (DIA) waves in an unmagnetized dusty plasma consisting of ion fluid, non-thermal electrons and fluctuating immobile dust particles has been made by the reductive perturbation technique. The basic features of DIA solitary and shock waves are studied by deriving the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) and KdV Burger equations, respectively. It is shown that the special patterns of nonlinear electrostatic waves are significantly modified by the presence of the non-thermal electron component. In particular, the rarefactive solitary and shock structures are found with smaller amplitude in comparison to the isothermal case. The transition from DIA solitary to shock waves is also studied which is related to the contributions of the dispersive and dissipative terms. It is found that the dust charge fluctuation is a source of dissipation, and is responsible for the formation of the dust ion-acoustic shock waves. Furthermore, the dissipative effect becomes important and may prevail over that of dispersion as the population of non-thermal electrons present decreases. The present investigation may be of relevance to electrostatic solitary structures observed in many space dusty plasma, such as Saturn’s E-ring.  相似文献

The nonlinear propagation of ion acoustic waves in ideal plasmas consisting of degenerate electrons and positrons, and isothermal ions is investigated. The Korteweg de Vries (K-dV) equation that contains the lowest order nonlinearity and dispersion is derived from the lowest order of perturbation and a linear inhomogeneous (K-dV type) equation that accounts for the higher order nonlinearity and the dispersion relation is obtained. The stationary wave solution for these equations has been found using the renormalization method. Also, the effects of electrons and positrons densities and ion temperature on the amplitude and width of solitary waves are investigated, numerically. It is seen that higher order corrections significantly change the properties of the K-dV solitons. Also, it is found that both compressive and rarefactive solitary waves can be propagated in such plasma system.  相似文献

Linear and nonlinear analysis of low frequency magnetoacoustic waves propagating at an angle θ with the ambient magnetic field are investigated in dense electron-positron-ion (e-p-i) plasmas using the quantum magnetohydrodynamic (QMHD) model. In this regard, a quantum Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-Burgers (KPB) equation is derived in the small amplitude limit. The stability of KPB equation is also presented. The variation of the nonlinear fast and slow magnetoacoustic shock waves with the positron concentration, kinematic viscosity, obliqueness parameter θ, and the magnetic field, are also investigated. It is observed that the aforementioned plasma parameters significantly modify the propagation characteristics of two dimensional nonlinear magnetoacoustic shock waves in dissipative quantum magnetoplasmas. The relevance of the present investigation with regard to dense astrophysical environments is also pointed out.  相似文献

The propagation of the weak MHD fast-mode shock emitted into the corona by flares at their explosive phase is computer-simulated. It is shown as the result that the shock wave is refracted towards the low Alfvén velocity regions pre-existing in the corona, and the strength of the shock, which is otherwise weak, is drastically enhanced on encountering low- V A regions due to the focussing effect by refraction and also due to the lowered propagation velocity of the shock in such regions. It is expected that electron acceleration takes place in such a drastic strengthening of the shock, leading to the local excitation of plasma waves and eventually to the occurrence of radio bursts at such locations. Such locations of shock strength enhancement, when computed by using HAO realistic models of coronal density and magnetic field of the day of certain type II burst events, actually coincide roughly with the observed positions of type II bursts. Peculiar configurations of type II burst sources as well as their occurrence even beyond the horizon of the responsible flare are explained consistently by the large scale refraction and the local enhancement of the shock due to the global and local distribution of Alfvén velocity in the corona. A unified interpretation is given for the occurrence of type II bursts and Moreton's wave phenomena, and also the relation of our MHD fast-mode disturbance with other flare-associated dynamical phenomena is discussed.  相似文献

Non-uniform propagation of weak discontinuities headed by wavefronts of arbitrary shape along bi-characteristics of a hyperbolic system through thermally-conducting and dissociating gases are studied. An explicit criterion for the growth and decay of weak waves along bi-characteristic curves in the characteristic manifold of the governing differential equations is given. The two fundamental theorems on the global behaviour of the time-dependent wave amplitude of a weak wave has been concluded.  相似文献

The nonlinear propagation of the Alfvén and magnetosonic waves in the solar corona is investigated in terms of model equations. Due to viscous effects taken into account the propagation of the fast wave itself is governed by Burgers type equations possessing both expansion and compression shock solutions. Numerical simulations show that both parallely and perpendicularly propagating fast waves can steepen into shocks if their amplitudes are in excess of some sizeable fraction of the Alfvén velocity. However, if the magnetic field changes linearly in the perpendicular direction, then formation of perpendicular shocks can be hindered. The Alfvén waves exhibit a tendency to drive both the slow and fast magnetosonic waves whose propagation is described by linearized Boussinesq type equations with ponderomotive terms due to the Alfvén wave. The limits of the slow and fast waves are investigated.  相似文献

The propagation of waves in a magnetic slab embedded in a magnetic environment is investigated. The possible modes of propagation are examined from the general dispersion relation, both analytically and numerically, for disturbances which are evanescent in the environment. Approximate dispersion relations governing propagation in a slender slab of field are derived both from the general dispersion relation and from an application of the slender flux tube approximation.Several different situations, representative of both photospheric and coronal conditions, are considered. In general, the structures are found to support both fast and slow, body and surface, waves. Under coronal conditions, for two dimensional propagation, disturbances propagate as fast and slow body waves. The fast body waves are analogous to the ducted shear waves of seismology (Love waves).  相似文献

The propagation of nonlinear waves in warm dusty plasmas with variable dust charge, two-temperature ions, and nonthermal electrons is studied. By using the reductive perturbation theory, the Kadomtsev–Petviashivili (KP) equation is derived. The energy of the soliton has been calculated. By using standard normal modes analysis a linear dispersion relation has been obtained. The effects of variable dust charge on the energy of the soliton and the angular frequency of the linear wave are also discussed. It is shown that the amplitude of solitary waves of the KP equation diverges at the critical values of plasma parameters. We derive solitons of a modified KP equation with finite amplitude in this situation.  相似文献

Dust acoustic (DA) shock waves are investigated in a dusty plasma having a high-energy-tail electron distribution. The effects of ion streaming, charge variation and electron deviation from the Maxwellian distribution on the DA shock wave are then considered. It is shown that as the suprathermal character of the plasma is increased, the potential amplitude enhances. It is also found that the ion temperature may be destructive for the formation of DA shock waves. Their strength decreases with increasing ion streaming speed. Our results may be useful in understanding the basic nonlinear features of the DA wave propagation that may occur in space dusty plasmas, especially those including a relative motion between species (comet tails, solar wind streams, etc.).  相似文献

Nonstationary hydrodynamic models of a viscous accretion disk around a central compact object were constructed. Two different numerical methods (TVD and SPH) are used to study the dynamics of dissipatively unstable acoustic perturbations at the nonlinear stage in terms of the standard α-disk model. The standard disk accretion in the Shakura-Sunyaev model is unstable against acoustic waves for various parameters of the system. If the α parameter, which specifies the level of turbulent viscosity, exceeds α?0.03, then a complex nonstationary system of small-scale weak shock waves is formed. The growth rate of the perturbations is higher in the central disk region. For α?0.2, the relative shock amplitude can exceed 50% of the equilibrium disk parameters. The reflection of waves from the disk boundaries and their nonlinear interaction are important factors that can produce unsteady accretion. The luminosity of such a disk undergoes quasi-periodic oscillations at a level of several percent (?5%) of the equilibrium level.  相似文献

We present the results of analytical modelling of fast-mode magnetohydrodynamic wave propagation near a 2D magnetic null point. We consider both a linear wave and a weak shock and analyse their behaviour in cold and warm plasmas. We apply the nonlinear geometrical acoustics method based on the Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin approximation. We calculate the wave amplitude, using the ray approximation and the laws of solitary shock wave damping. We find that a complex caustic is formed around the null point. Plasma heating is distributed in space and occurs at a caustic as well as near the null point due to substantial nonlinear damping of the shock wave. The shock wave passes through the null point even in a cold plasma. The complex shape of the wave front can be explained by the caustic pattern.  相似文献

The propagation of non-radial, small amplitude perturbations superposed on a zero-order, stationary, non-magnetic, polytropic, rotating stellar wind is studied in the limit of the local theory, i.e. for k r 1, k being the module of the wave vector and r the characteristic scale of the zero-order flow. The resulting dispersion equation is of the 3rd order in (complex) frequency and the possible modes correspond to two acoustic type waves, and to a gravity-shear wave with strongly anisotropic propagation properties, due to coupling between the internal gravity waves and shear motion. The gravity-shear mode allows velocity differences in the medium to exist with no corresponding density fluctuations and hence with no shock wave formation. It is suggested that this mode corresponds to some of the fast-slow velocity streams observed in the interplanetary medium and may provide means for wave energy being transported outwards with the zero-order flow, with little dissipation in the inner region of the solar wind.  相似文献

By adopting the progenitor model proposed by Woosley in 2002 and using the program WZYW89, the process of explosion of type II supernovae with masses of 11−40M is numerically simulated. The results of computation reveal that this new model can in different degrees affect the collapse and explosion of type II supernovae as well as the propagation of shock waves. Besides, the definitions of the primary energy of shock waves are also discussed.  相似文献

Interaction of weak shock waves with a current sheet is investigated by a two-dimensional numerical magnetohydrodynamic model. In accordance with solar coronal conditions, a ratio of thermal to magnetic pressures of 0.1 and a shock Alfvén Mach number slightly above 1 are considered. It is found that even weak shock waves trigger magnetic field reconnection in current sheets. Based on this result, it is suggested that drifting chains of type I radio bursts are radio manifestations of the interactions of weakly super-Alfvénic shock waves with pre-existing current sheets distributed in an active region. This model of type I noise storms is then discussed in connection with the concept of nanoflares (localized reconnections) and the heating of the solar corona.  相似文献

Low‐frequency instabilities of plasma waves in the arch structures in solar active regions have been investigated before a flare. In the framework of mechanism of “direct initiation” of instability by slowly increasing (quasi‐static) large‐scale electric field in a loop the dispersion relation has been studied for the perturbations which propagate almost perpendicularly to the magnetic field of the loop. The case has been considered, when amplitude of weak (“subdreicer”) electric field sharply increases before a flare, low‐frequency instability develops on the background of ion‐acoustic turbulence and thickness of this turbulent plasma layer plays the role of mean characteristic scale of inhomogeneity of plasma density. If the values of the main plasma parameters, i.e. temperature, density, magnetic field amplitude allow to neglect the influence of the shear of magnetic strength lines on the instability development, then two types of the waves can be generated in preflare plasma: the kinetic Alfvén waves and some new kind of the waves from the range of slowly magneto‐acoustic ones. Instability of kinetic Alfvén waves has clearly expressed threshold character with respect to the amplitude of “subdreicer” electric field. This fact seems to be useful for the short‐time prediction of a flare in arch structure. (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The behavior of quantum dust ion-acoustic (QDIA) shocks in a plasma including inertialess quantum electrons and positrons, classical cold ions and stationary negative dust grains are studied, using a quantum hydrodynamic model (QHD). The effect of dissipation due to the viscosity of ions is taken into account. The propagation of small but finite amplitude QDIA shocks is governed by the Kortoweg-de Vries-Burgers (KdVB) equation. The existence regions of oscillatory and monotonic shocks will depend on the quantum diffraction parameter (H) and dust density (d) as well as dissipation parameter (η 0). The effect of plasma parameters (d,H,η 0), on these structures is investigated. Results indicate that the thickness and height of monotonic shocks; oscillation amplitude of the oscillatory shock wave and it’s wavelength effectively are affected by these parameters. Additionally, the possibility of propagation of both compressive and rarefactive shocks is investigated. It is found that depending on some critical value of dust density (d c ), which is a function of H, compressive and rarefactive shock waves can’t propagate in model plasma. The present theory is applicable to analyze the formation of nonlinear structures at quantum scales in dense astrophysical objects.  相似文献
