We have observed 10 solar bursts during the thermal phase using the Haystack radio telescope at 22 GHz. We show that these high frequency flux observations, when compared with soft X-ray band fluxes, give useful information about the temperature profile in the flare loops. The microwave and X-ray band fluxes provide determinations of the maximum loop temperature, the total emission measure, and the index of the differential emission measure (q(T)/T = cT–1). The special case of an isothermal loop ( = ) has been considered previously by Thomas et al. (1985), and we confirm their diagnostic calculations for the GOES X-ray bands, but find that the flare loops we observed departed significantly from the isothermal regime. Our results ( = 1–3.5) imply that, during the late phases of flares, condensation cooling ( 3.5) competes with radiative cooling ( 1.5). Further, our results appear to be in good agreement with previous deductions from XUV rocket spectra ( 2–3).  相似文献

DOUBLE-LOOP CONFIGURATION OF SOLAR FLARES   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Hanaoka  Yoichiro 《Solar physics》1997,173(2):319-346
We analyzed several flares, which are presumed to be caused by interactions between an emerging loop and an overlying loop. We call such a basic combination of loops a double-loop configuration, and we reveal its topology on the basis of the microwave and soft X-ray observations of the flares and the magnetograms. In many cases, the magnetic field of the flare loops shows a bipolar + remote unipolar structure, rather than a quadrapole structure. The footpoints of two loops are distributed in three magnetic patches, and two of the footpoints of the loops, one from the emerging loop and the other from the overlying loop, are included in a single magnetic polarity patch. Therefore, the two loops form a three-legged structure, and the two loops are not anti-parallel as assumed in the traditional reconnection models. Typically, the emergence of a parasitic polarity near the major preceding-polarity region or the following one in an active region creates this configuration, but, in one of the analyzed flares, two active regions are involved in the configuration. Not only the flares, but various other active phenomena – microflares, thermal plasma flows like jets, and surges – occur in the same magnetic configuration. Hence, the interaction between two loops, which forms the three-legged structure, is an important source of the various types of activity.  相似文献

A post flare loop system was observed on the west limb at the total solar eclipse of February 16, 1980 in Kenya. Analyzing the monochromatic images and the flash spectra, we obtained the following results: (1) the lower part of the post flare loop system is characterized mainly by distinct cool loops of H and Fe x 6374. Fe x 6374 emitting plasma (T e = 1.0 × 106 K) is highly concentrated in the loops. The 6374 loops are broader in diameter and located very close to but a little higher than the corresponding H loops. The electron densities of the dense part in H and Fe x 6374 loops are 1011 cm-3 and 6 × 109cm-3, respectively; (2) the Ca xv emitting region (3.5 × 106 K) is confined to the upper part of the post flare loops. The electron density of this hot region is estimated as 8 × 109 cm-3 from the Ca xv line intensity ratio, I(5694)I(5445). These observational results led us to construct an empirical model of the post flare loop system which is consistent with the reconnection model of Kopp and Pneuman (1976).Contributions from the Kwasan and Hida Observatories, University of Kyoto, No. 267.  相似文献

Heating of the primaeval plasma prior to the epoch of recombination results in distortions in the Rayleigh-Jeans region of the microwave relic radiation spectrum (1–60 cm, or more exactly =2.5–7/8 cm). The present observational data allow limits to be set to such energy injection from which follow upper limits to (a) the amount of antimatter in the universe; (b) the parameters of primaeval turbulence; and (c) the adiabatic fluctuation spectrum for small masses (M<1011 M ).If the heating takes place prior to the epocht=101012/5 sec (and in particular at the annihilation of electron-positron pairs atT108–1010 K,t<300 sec), no observable distortions are expected in the relic radiation spectrum. Here =/crit is the dimensionless average density of matter in the universe.Translated from the Russian by D. F. Smith.  相似文献

A limb, two-ribbon H flare on June 4, 1991, associated with a white-light flare and followed by an emission spray and post-flare loops, is studied. A region of rapidly enhanced brightness at the bottom of the H ribbon above the white-light flare is revealed. The energy released by the white-light flare at eff = 4100 is estimated to be about 1.5 × 1028 erg s–1.  相似文献

The variation of radio luminosity with redshift and its effect on the analysis of the angular size-redshift (z) relation for a bright radio source sample (s 178 10Jy) has been investigated. By assuming a power law dependence of luminosity on redshift of the formP (1 +z), it was found that 4.4 (with correlation coefficientr 0.99) for at leastz 0.3. Correction for such a strongP – (1 +z) correlation when considering thez data for the sample led to a steeperz slope. This could be explained by assuming linear size evolution of the formD (1 +z)n withn = 2.8 – 3.3 consistent with both theoretical results and those obtained for more homogeneous source samples.  相似文献

Quiescent prominences It is found that Heii 4686 is emitted in the same cold region of 10000 K as hydrogen, metal and neutral helium emission lines. This conclusion is based on the finding that the observed width of 4686 is the same as the calculated width of 4686. The calculated width is derived from the observed widths of hydrogen and metallic lines. The large intensity of Heii 4686 in 10000 K can be explained by the ionization of Heii due to the UV radiation below 228 Å that comes from the corona and the transition region.Loop prominences The very broad width (30 to 50 km s–1) of 4686 for two post-flare loop prominences shows that the Heii line is emitted in hot regions different from regions of hydrogen and metal emission. From the widths of the Balmer lines and many metallic lines the kinetic temperature for one loop is found to be 16000 K in one part and 7600 K in another part. The electron densities are 1012.0 cm–3 and less than 1011.0 cm–3 respectively.Chromosphere The intensity of 4686 in the chromosphere can be interpreted in terms of a temperature of 10000 K with the ionization due to UV radiation. But, since observations of the width of 4686 are not available, a definitive conclusion for the chromosphere cannot be reached.  相似文献

Sudden brightening of FeII and Balmer (H and H) lines of X Oph was observed on 28–29 May, 1986. Equivalent width of FeII and H lines increased by a factor of two and that for H line by a factor of four, during the brigtening phase of the star. This brightening phenomena has been explained in the framework of Coronal Radiative Instability.  相似文献

We have analyzed the physical conditions of the plasma in post-flare loops with special emphasis on dynamics and energy transport using SXT-data (hot plasma) and optical ground-based data from Pic du Midi, Wrocaw, and Ondejov (cool plasma). By combining the H observations with the SXT images we can understand the relationship between cool and hot plasmas, the process of cooling post-flare loops and the mechanism which maintains the long duration of these loops. Using recent results of NLTE modeling of prominence-like plasmas, we derive the emission measure of cool H loops and this gives us a realistic estimate of the electron density (2.2 × 1010 cm–3). Then, by comparing this emission measure with that of hot loops derived from SXT data, we are able to estimate the ratio between electron densities in hot and cool loops taking into account the effect of geometrical filling factors. This leads to the electron density in hot loops 7 × 109 cm–3. We also derive the temperature of hot X-ray loops ( 5.5 × 106 K), which, together with the electron density, provides the initial values for solving the time-dependent energy balance equation. We obtain the cooling times which are compared to a typical growth-time of the whole loop system ( 2000 s). In the legs of cool H loops, we observe an excess of the emission measure which we attribute to the effect of Doppler brightening (due to large downflow velocities).  相似文献

Some particular solutions of the plane restricted problem of three bodies in the form of Liapunov's series are obtained. These solutions asymptotically approach the Lagrange solutions. Convergence is proved.

Over the past decade two large arrays — the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) and the Very Large Array (VLA) built primarily for sidereal radio astronomy have been used for solar radio astronomical studies with spatial resolution of a few seconds of arc. In this review, we discuss some results obtained at Maryland using these instruments. The quiet Sun observations made with the WSRT have premitted us to produce synthesized maps of supergranulation network at 6 cm wavelength. The brightness temperatures of typical network elements and cells are respectively 2.5 × 104 K and 1.5 × 104 K; thus the contrast is 1.71 which compares with 1.31 for Ca + K and 20 for L networks. Limb profiles in both equatorial and polar directions have been obtained; limb brightening is observed at both west and south limbs, peak limb temperature being about 40% higher than disk temperature. We have produced synthesized maps of disk filaments which correspond well to H disk filaments and regions of reduced emission in He i 10 830 Å spectroheliograms. Using the WSRT synthesized maps at 6 cm, we have compared the structure of a sunspot associated source with model computations. Using a new method of analysis we have been able to map the vertical as well as the horizontal component of the sunspot magnetic field at specific locations in the low corona. Using the VLA, we have mapped coronal loops at 20 cm; the radio emission is attributed to bremsstrahlung near the loop footpoints whereas gyroresonance process dominates near the loop top. Using the VLA, we have carried out simultaneous observations of a microwave burst at 2 and 6 cm. The 6 cm burst source is apparently located near the top of a flaring loop, while the 2 cm emission originates from the loop footpoints. The 6 cm emission is attributed to gyrosynchrotron radiation of thermal electons in the bulk heated plasma at 4 × 107 K, while the 2 cm emission is due to nonthermal particles released and accelerated during the flare process. A DC electric field flare model appears to explain the observed delay between the peaks at the two wavelengths. From the delay, the strength of the electric field in the flaring region is estimated.  相似文献

We observed the large post-flare loop system, which developed after the X 3.9 flare of 25 June 1992 at 2011 UT, in H with the Multichannel Subtractive Double Pass Spectrograph at Pic-du-Midi and in X-rays with the it Yohkoh/SXT instrument. Following the long-term development of cool and hot plasmas, we have determined the emission measure of the cool plasma and, for the first time, the temporal evolution of the hot-loop emission measure and temperature during the entire gradual phase. Thus, it was possible to infer the temporal variation of electron densities, leading to estimates of cooling times. A gradual decrease of the hot-loop emission measure was observed, from 4 × 1030 cm–5 at 2300 UT on 25 June 1992 to 3 × 1028 cm–5 at 1310 UT on 26 June 1992. During the same period, the temperature decreased only slowly from 7.2 to 6.0 × 106 K. Using recent results of NLTE modeling of prominence-like plasmas, we also derive the emission measure of cool H loops and discuss their temperature and ionisation degree. During two hours of H observations (11–13 hours after the flare) the averaged emission measure does not show any significant change, though the amount of visible cool material decreases and the volume of the loops increases. The emission measure in H, after correction for the Doppler-brightening effect, is slightly lower than in soft X-rays. Since the hot plasma seems to be more spatially extended, we arrive at electron densities in the range n infe supho n infe supcool 2 × 1010 cm–3 at the time of the H observations. These results are consistent with the post-flare loop model proposed by Forbes, Malherbe, and Priest (1989). The observed slow decrease of the emission measure could be due to an increase of the volume of the loops and a gradual decrease of the chromospheric ablation driven by the reconnection, which seems to remain effective continuously for more than 16 hours. The cooling time for hot loops to cool down to 104 K and to appear in H would be only a few minutes at the beginning of the gradual phase but could be as long as 2 hours at the end, several hours later.  相似文献

The relative Doppler and non-thermal velocities of quiet-Sun and active-region blinkers identified in Ov with CDS are calculated. Relative velocities for the corresponding chromospheric plasma below are also determined using the Hei line. Ov blinkers and the chromosphere directly below, have a preference to be more red-shifted than the normal transition region and chromospheric plasma. The ranges of these enhanced velocities, however, are no larger than the typical spread of Doppler velocities in these regions. The anticipated ranges of Doppler velocities of blinkers are 10–15 km s–1 in the quiet Sun (10–20 km s–1 in active regions) for Hei and 25–30 km s–1 in the quiet Sun (20–40 km s–1 in active regions) for Ov. Blinkers and the chromosphere below also have preferentially larger non-thermal velocities than the typical background chromosphere and transition region. Again the increase in magnitude of these non-thermal velocities is no greater than the typical ranges of non-thermal velocities. The ranges of non-thermal velocities of blinkers in both the quiet Sun and active regions are estimated to be 15–25 km s–1 in Hei and 30–45 km s–1 in Ov. There are more blinkers with larger Doppler and non-thermal velocities than would be expected in the whole of the chromosphere and transition region. The recently suggested mechanisms for blinkers are revisited and discussed further in light of the new results.  相似文献

Comet Hale-Bopp is, without doubt, one of the most important objects for cometary science which has ever been observed. The light curve is well-observed from a heliocentric distance 7.2 AU and some information is available at distances as great as 17 AU. This allows the photometric evolution of the comet to be studied as different volatiles dominate the activity. Three different phases of activity are seen as the heliocentric distance reduces during 1996: the initial phase of very fast brightening, characterized by a r –5 law; a standstill in the light curve when the brightening law reduced to r –1, which coincides with the initiation of water sublimation at r ~ 4 AU; and a further phase of more rapid brightening with an r –3.5 law, similar to the mean for comets classed as fairly new, which initiated at r ~ 4 AU.  相似文献

Multiple moving magnetic structures in the solar corona   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We report the study of moving magnetic structures inferred from the observations of a moving type IV event with multiple sources. The ejection contains at least two moving radio emitting loops with different relative inclinations. The radio loops are located above multiple H flare loops in an active region near the limb. We investigate the relationship between the two systems of loops. The spatial, temporal and geometrical associations between the radio emission and near surface activities suggest a scenario similar to coronal mass ejection (CME) events, although no CME observations exist for the present event. From the observed characteristics, we find that the radio emission can be interpreted as Razin suppressed optically thin gyrosynchrotron emission from nonthermal particles of energy 100, keV and density 102–105 cm–3 in a magnetic field 2 G.  相似文献

We have re-examined and extended the measurements of the primary cosmic ray proton and helium nuclei intensities in the range from a few MeV nuc–1 to 100 GeV nuc–1 using a considerable body of recently published data. The differential spectra obtained from this data are determined as a function of both energy and rigidity. The exponents of the energy spectra of both protons and helium nuclei are found to be different at the same energy/nucleon and to increase with increasing energy between 1 and 100 GeV nuc–1 reaching a value=–2.70 at higher energies and in addition, theP/He ratio changes from a value 5 at 1 GeV nuc–1 and below to a value 30 at 100 GeV nuc–1. On a rigidity representation the spectral exponent for each species is nearly identical and remains virtually constant above several GV at a value of –2.70, and in addition, theP/He ratio is also a constant 7 above 3 GeV. The changingP/He ratio and spectral exponent on an energy representation occur at energies well above those at which interplanetary modulation effects or interstellar ionization energy loss effects can significantly affect the spectra. In effect by comparing energy spectra and rigidity spectra in the intermediate energy range above the point where solar modulation effects and interstellar energy loss effects are important, but in the range where there are significant differences between energy and rigidity spectra, we deduce that the cosmic ray source spectra are effectively rigidity spectra. This fact has important implications regarding the mechanism of acceleration of this radiation and also with regard to the form of the assumed galactic spectrum at low energies. The relationship between the proton and helium spectra derived here and the heavier nuclei spectral differences recently reported in the literature is also examined. If rigidity spectra are adopted for protons and helium nuclei, then the source abundance ratio of these two components is determined to be 7:1. Some cosmological implications of this ratio are discussed.  相似文献

The flare of 11 November, 1980, 1725 UT occurred in a magnetically complex region. It was preceded by some ten minutes by a gradual flare originating over the magnetic inversion line, close to a small sunspot. This seems to have triggered the main flare (at 70 000 km distance) which originated between a large sunspot and the inversion line. The main flare started at 172320 UT with a slight enhancement of hard X-rays (E > 30 keV) accompanied by the formation of a dark loop between two H bright ribbons. In 3–8 keV X-rays a southward expansion started at the same time, with - 500 km s –1. At the same time a surge-like expansion started. It was observable slightly later in H, with southward velocities of 200 km s–1. The dark H loop dissolved at 1724 UT at which time several impulsive phenomena started such as a complex of hard X-ray bursts localized in a small area. At the end of the impulsive phase at 172540 UT, a coronal explosion occurred directed southward with an initial expansion velocity of 1800 km s–1, decreasing in 40 s to 500 km s–1.Now at Fokker Aircraft Industries, Schiphol, The Netherlands.  相似文献

A detailed study of the evolution and cooling process of post-flare loops is presented for a large X9.2 solar flare of 2 November 1992 by using H images obtained with Domeless Solar Telescope at Hida Observatory and soft X-ray images of Yohkoh Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT). The detailed analysis with a new method allows us to determine more precise values of the cooling times from 107 K to 104 K plasma in the post-flare loops than in previous works. The subtraction of sequential images shows that soft X-ray dimming regions are well correlated to the H brightening loop structure. The cooling times between 107 K and 104 K are defined as the time difference between the start of soft X-ray intensity decrease and the end of H intensity increase at a selected point, where the causal relation between H brightening and soft X-ray dimming loops is confirmed. The obtained cooling times change with time; about 10 min at the initial stage and about 40 min at the later stage. The combined conductive and radiative cooling times are also calculated by using the temperature and density obtained from SXT data. Calculated cooling times are close to observed cooling times at the beginning of the flare and longer in the later stage.  相似文献

The photometry of coronal colour negatives is carried out. The films were obtained at the March 7, 1970 and July 10, 1972 eclipses. A distribution of the coronal brightness in the red (635 nm), green (545 nm), and blue (455 nm) wavelength intervals up to distances of (6–7)R is deduced (Figure 1). Colour indexes of the corona (the emission ratio red/blue - C rb and green/blue - C gb) have been obtained. We assume C rb = C gb = 1 in the inner corona (2R ). The maximum of colour indexes of the 1970 corona are at the distances of about 4R (C rb 1.9 and C gb 1.7). A slight reddening within the limits of the errors was found in the 1972 corona. There is a correlation between colour indexes and diffuse external reinforcements (RED) brightness. The analysis of the results leads to the conclusion that RED consists of dust grains with radii 1 m. RED brightness is evaluated to be 4 × 10-10 B . There is 1 grain of dust in the elementary volume with cross section of 1 cm2 along the line of sight. The intensity of dust emission in wavelength interval 10 m deduced by the authors is approximately 1 W cm-2 s m–1. That is in agreement with Mankin et al. (1974) and Léna et al. (1974) observations. The whole dust mass of RED is 1% of the coronal gas mass contained within RED region. The dust grain number density is about 10-11 cm-3.Determinations of the colour of the solar corona have been made by a number of scientists (Tikhov, 1940, 1957; Allen, 1946; Blackwell, 1952; Michard, 1956; Sharonov, 1958; Nay et al., 1961). The corona colour was found to be somewhat redder than the Sun's. However this question is not finally settled to date.  相似文献

Observations of the intensity distribution near the solar limb at 2.43 and 22.5 , show the absence of limb brightening to within 1 or 2 arc sec of the limb. Observations at 1.2 mm indicate limb brightening at this wavelength. These results are compared with the Utrecht Reference Photosphere and with existing data on the solar flux in the millimeter range, and suggest that the temperature minimum is broad and extends above 5000 = 2 × 10–3. A sharp rise of temperature is required above 5000 = 10–5.  相似文献
